Chapter 6
OKAY DIANE WANTS ANOTHER CHAPTER!SOO I’M GONNA GIVE IT TO HER!
He called out to her again but didn't hear anything. Then there was a loud thud from the other side of the phone and Grant raced out of the school, got into his car and raced home.
“I’m coming Rosette. Just hold on.”
Grant was lucky. He had taken all the roads that weren’t busy and he could easily speed along. He rammed into the driveway and ran up the steps to the door and ran into it.
“Shit!”
He fumbled for his keys. Being as tense as he was, he shook the key into the door and shoved it open. He was shocked and yet surprised to what he came to in the house. There on the floor, lay Rosette. Her cheeks were red and she seemed to be sweaty. She was breathing heavily, breathes coming in quickly.
“Dammit.”
Grant searched the room and grabbed the phone. It had slid under the table. He had Rosette in his arms while he dialed the numbers 911 with one hand. He waited while rocking Rosette in one arm.
“911 emergency, please state your emergency."
“I need an ambulance right away! My sister…she’s got a high fever and she’s shaking pretty bad! I don’t know what to do!”
“Please stay calm sir, could you tell me the address sir?”
“Yes, it’s 112 Bedmont ave, house number 14!”
“Okay sir, help is on the way. Can you stay on the phone with me?”
“Yes…yes I can. Is my sister going to be alright? What can I do until they get here? Can I do anything?”
Grant was starting to go into a panic attack. The nurse on the other side of the line had had this happen before and she knew how to handle it.
“Sir, please get a hold of yourself! Your sister needs your help right now. If you go into a panic attack, how will help her then?”
Grant took a deep breath.
“Okay. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize. Just listen to my instructions.”
She was glad he was back but they no time to celebrate.
“Is this phone mobile or on a cord?”
“Mobile.”
“Okay good. This makes it easier. I need you to go get your sister some big blankets and I need you to wrap her up in them okay?”
“Okay.”
Grant got up and ran upstairs.
“Sir, I apologize, what is the name of your sister and yourself?”
“My name is Grant Benjamin and my sister is Rosette.”
“Do you have the same parents?”
Grant was a little taken back by this. The nurse felt this.
“Sir, Grant, I don’t mean to offend you in any ways, I just need to know so I can put it in the computer.”
“R-Right. Sorry”
“Okay Grant, did you get the blankets?”
“Yes.”
“Are you wrapping them around Rosette?”
“Yes.”
“Okay Grant, you have done all you can, now you have to wait for help to arrive okay? But will stay on the line incase something happens okay?”
“Okay.”
He hesitated before he spoke again.
“Miss?”
“Yes?”
“What is your name?”
“My name is Rebecca Adam.”
“Oh.”
He smiled a little bit.
“Rebecca?”
“Yes?”
“Thank you.”
“Your welcome Grant.”
“Oh and Rebecca?”
“Yes Grant?”
“I hope one day I can meet you in person to thank you personally.”
“That’s not needed Grant. Knowing that your sister will be alright is enough thanks.”
“No, I’d really like to meet you.”
As soon as Grant finished his sentence, the paramedics burst in with a stretcher and put Rosette on it. Grant followed them out the door, running as fast as he could.
“Who are you in relation to her sir?”
“I’m her brother!”
The paramedic nodded and both men climbed into the back of the vehicle. The ambulance took off as the paramedic in the back put a mask over Rosette’s mouth and pumped oxygen into her. Grant just sat there, holding her hand the whole way there.
When they reached the hospital, there were already doctors and nurses waiting to take Rosette. She was rushed into emergency and Grant was running with her until one of the nurse blocked him. He looked down at her disgracefully.
“Grant?”
He stumbled back a bit, looking at her fully. His eyes reading her name tag that read, ‘Becky’. He didn’t know what else to do and end up falling into her arms. Letting him, she was ready to catch him and he started to cry on her shoulder. She knew this would come. She knew Grant truly cared for his sister.
It was a few hours later and Grant had collected himself and stopped crying. Rebecca had gone back to her post and he was left alone. It startled him when his cel phone went off. He received a few ugly stares, realizing he was not supposed to have them one in a hospital. He ran outside and looked at his phone.
“Mom?! Mom is that you?!”
“Grant! Grant what’s going on?! Where are you?! Where’s your sister?! Did something happen?!”
“I’m at the hospital. Rosette had a fever and I brought her here.”
“Have you heard anything yet?!”
“No.”
“We’re coming over!”
“Okay.”
With that they hung up. Leaving Grant standing in the street. He went back in just in time.
“Mr. Benjamin?”
“Uh here! It’s just Grant. I’m her brother.”
The expression on the doctor’s face changed from disgusted to pleased.
“How is she? My sister? Is she okay?”
“Relax, she’s only got a mild fever. Nothing big. She’ll be quite fine.”
“Can I…can I see her?”
“Of course. Right this way.”
He led Grant through a long corridor and to a small room with one bed. On that bed laid his sister. He smiled and thanked the doctor. The doctor nodded and walked away. Grant went to his sister. He looked down at her. His hand met her now cooler cheek that wasn’t as red as it had been before.
“Rosette. Thank God you’re alright.”
“Because of you.”
Rosette whispered. Grant jumped, not realizing she was awake.
“Thank you Grant.”
He was so happy it brought tears to his eyes.
“No it’s okay, really.”
He looked down to hid his tears.
“It’s okay Grant. It’s okay to cry. I won’t tell anyone.”
He gave a small laugh and lifted his head. He spoke while he wiped his tears with the arm or his sleeve.
“Men aren’t supposed to cry.”
Rosette gave a little laugh, just enough that her fragile body could take.
“I don’t see a man around here.”
“Hmmp.”
Grant looked down, tears still forming in his eyes. Rosette tugged on his sleeve when she could no longer see his face.
“I see a hero instead. And I think I’d rather had that.”
She smiled and so did Grant. He rested his head near her hand and she lifted it and rubbed his head.
“S’okay Grant. I’m still her.”
They both managed to fall asleep together like that for a couple hours. A nurse came in to check on them but found it better to leave the sleeping siblings be. She turned out the lights and whispered.
“Good night Grant, and sister Rosette.”
A/N: More to be added. Comments and I might just add more!
