Inside the Haunted
Part 6
-------------------------------
“Someone please, someone come help me.” I muttered shakily under my breath. Now I truly knew the meaning of claustrophobia as the walls, floor and ceiling closed into me, their intentions speaking purely. They were going to squish me any second.
“Someone pleas help me!” I screamed loudly, my voice echoing off of the walls, trying to reach someone, anyone to help me. Suddenly, there was a bright flash of light and I was knocked down by a strong force. I tried to get to my feet again, but the walls and floor and ceiling were so close to me so I had to lie down. This was the end of it all…just a few more seconds of life was left in me…okay, anytime would be nice, I’m sick of being in suspense. I opened one of my eyes slowly and looked for what the hold up was. I couldn’t believe it. But before I could call their name, I fainted with relief.
--------------------------------
“Madigan…wake up…please don’t be dead…” someone said. I opened my eyes to see Emily’s face peering down on mine nervously. She backed away so I could sit up.
“Emily…did you save me?” I asked her softly. My head was pounding and my lip still hurt, but I was relieved. Emily nodded shyly.
“I had to. The locket called to me. I knew you needed me.” She said. Then, blood appeared on her face and hands and dripped onto my clothes. Uh-oh… “He” was coming back.
“You’ve disobeyed me for the last time Emily.” The voice said dangerously. Emily screamed and she disappeared from sight.
“Emily! Let her go…uh…whoever you are!” I shouted. The voice laughed.
“No. She is the servant of death. She’s on the move…better go check on your friends Madigan…they might need your help.” The voice said. Panic gripped my heart. Bernie! Gloria! Gus! Charlie! They were all in trouble! I picked myself up and ran down the hall. But that didn’t stop the scream that erupted from the hallway that I was in.
-----------------------------------
I was shaking so bad at this point that I had to stop and catch my breath. Where was everyone, and who had just been killed by Emily? I gasped at what I just thought. Emily. SHE was the one who killed Sanchez that night! But why? She wanted to help me, but not the others. This didn’t make any sense anymore. But enough with that, I had to go find my crew. I walked along the hallway, trying to get my heart rate back to normal. But that was next to impossible in this place. Then, the lights started to flicker on and off.
“Okay, this is getting old!” I shouted to the voice angrily.
“What is?” he said. Then he started to laugh manically and my heart rate quickened.
----------------------------------
“Who did Emily just kill?! TELL ME!” I screamed. The voice kept laughing and laughing until it started to fade away and eventually fade. I must be getting close…I hope. Maybe I could still help that person from dying…if it was possible. I heard the ship start to creak and moan and groan. Was it “Him”? Or was it someone walking towards me.
“Madigan…” Well, that answered my question. It sounded like Emily.
“Emily? Is that you?” I asked hopefully.
“No.” the person said. They kept walking towards me and I started to back away.
“Wait, it’s me…Gloria.” Gloria!
“Oh Gloria! Thank goodness!” I stopped backing up and I ran towards her. She was just standing there. But there was something wrong…something very wrong. She smiled at me then took out a knife.
“My luck cannot be this bad…” I said softly, staring at the knife. I backed away as she came closer and closer to me. I fell over my feet and Gloria came closer to me. I held up my hands to block myself as she took the knife and raised her hands…and plunged it right into her heart. I screamed with horror as she fell to the ground.
“Gloria! What is the matter with you?” I asked, crawling on my hands and knees to her. There was a blinding light and I shielded my eyes.
-----------------------------------
When the light faded away, I withdrew my hands from my eyes. I couldn’t believe what was happening. Gloria’s body was lit up and out came Emily’s ghost.
“Emily!” I shouted. What was going on? Emily’s ghost stood near the body and looked down at it with terror.
“What have I done?” she whispered. Emily truly looked horrified.
“Emily…what is the matter with you? Why did you do that to her?” I said, eyeing Gloria’s dead body. There was blood coming out from the hole in her chest and out of her mouth. Gloria’s eyes were glassy and stared straight ahead. Emily put her hands on Gloria’s eyes and forced her eyelids down over her eyes.
“It is not me…it is ‘Him’.” Emily said.
“How does he do it?” I asked.
“It’s not the best time Madigan to talk about this. I will tell you another day.” Emily muttered.
“I don’t have another day to talk about it! My crew keeps on dying and you maybe able to help us but you won’t say anything!” I said angrily, my anger flaring up once again.
“I’m sorry Madigan.” She said. With a flash, Emily was gone.
-----------------------------------
“Madigan! Are you there! MADIGAN!” someone called. I didn’t stir; I was still in shock sitting next to Gloria’s corpse. I heard a multiple number of footsteps coming my way and then I saw Gus, Bernie and Charlie’s stricken faces. They looked to me, then to Gloria, then back to me.
“Madigan…what happened?” Bernie asked me, kneeling down to me. He held my face in his hands. I moved my head and looked away from him.
“I can’t believe she’s betrayed me like this…” I said to no one. But to the others, they thought that I was talking about Gloria.
“Maddie…you didn’t kill Gloria did you?” Charlie asked me. Bernie and Gus turned quickly to face them, their faces angry.
“What were you thinking?! Of course Madigan wouldn’t kill Gloria!” Bernie shouted. Gus nodded furiously.
“I think it was YOU who did it and then tried to pin the blame on poor Maddie here.” Gus said. Charlie looked scared as he looked from one man to the other. I stood up slowly only to sit once again as my knees bucked from out under me. Bernie grabbed my arm and pulled me up. He draped one arm over my shoulder and looked towards Gus for help. Gus grabbed my other side and they began to walk together as my legs and feet dragged behind me. Charlie was left standing all alone.
------------------------------------------
“We have to leave here. Now.” Bernie said once we were back on Gus’ ship.
“We can’t. We’re almost done with the ship. Then we can turn it in for profit.” Charlie whined.
“He has a point there boss.” Gus said.
“But you guys, TWO people have now died from who knows what?” Bernie argued. I sat in between all of them, my mind buzzing. I didn’t want to leave either. I wanted to talk to Emily to get things straightened out. I got up, but Bernie pushed me back down by my shoulder.
“Stay there Madigan. I don’t want you to move just yet.” Bernie said firmly.
“Well tough, because I HAVE to move.” I said, pushing past them.
“Fine. Get some bed rest then.” Bernie said. I nodded and went into my bedroom. I left the door open a fraction of an inch so I could hear what they were saying.
“I’m worried about Maddie.” Gus said suddenly.
“So am I. Ever since we’ve gotten here, she’s been acting funny. And she keeps talking to someone. She says she talks to herself, but I know she’s not.” Bernie said.
“So you think she’s crazy?” Gus said gruffly.
“No. I just think we need to get out of here before she gets that way.” Bernie said. I sank onto my bed. Great, everyone thought I was crazy. What was I going to do now?
