Chapter Ten

Author's Note: Thanks to everyone who has reviewed but especially Adara Giovanni. Like I said I want some constructive criticism, that's why I posted. Right now I'm working on turning Our Story into a third person story. It's giving me a lot more chances to build on the characters. As for descriptions, that has always been my biggest complaint, but I'm working on it.

Chapter Ten

“Something tells me I should be worried,” Damien said.

Rowan smiled, happy to turn the tables on her friend. “Nova has an idea, you should be.”

“Shut up,” Nova said. “This is simple. What I want to do is sort of a teleportation spell.”

“I’m not going back,” Damien announced.

“That’s not what it is,” she assured him. “My spell will do two things. It will create a bond of sorts that will tell me if you’re ever going to kill someone and it will bring you back to me wherever you are whenever I command it.”

“I knew it when I saw you.”

“Knew what?” she asked blinking.

“I knew you’d be a dominatrix.”

“Hmm,” Garret mused.

“One word out of you-” Rowan warned.

He smiled innocently. “What? I didn’t say anything.”

“You are so whipped,” Damien smirked.

“Why don’t you-?”

“Okay,” Nova said, clearly annoyed. “I repeat what I said about whipping them out.”

Rowan glared up at Garret who was still glaring at Damien. “And I repeat what I said about keeping it attached.”

“Why is it that everyone says that you’re so non violent?” Garret inquired. “You rarely go ten minutes without threatening me.”

“It’s just you,” she shrugged.

He smiled. “Now I feel special.”

“Don’t.”

“Do you agree, Damien?” Nova inquired.

“I would get to stay here as long as I don’t hurt anyone?” he asked. “And if I say no?”

“Yes,” Nova said answering his first question before answering his second, “and we’ll either kill you or send you back.”

“Then I guess I’m in.”

“I guess I owe you a reluctant thanks,” she said looking up at Garret as they began the spell.

He smiled. “You’re welcome.”

“You’re hurt,” she said touching his hand holding it away from his body slightly so she could see the gash in it.

“'Ties but a scratch,” he said but smiled. He was obviously pleased that she was so concerned.

“How did you find me?”

“I can’t answer that.”

“Why?”

“I don’t know. I just have a sixth sense when it comes to you.”

“So, are you my stalker now?”

He smiled. “I’m just looking out for you, sweetheart. I don’t want to see you hurt.” We both glanced over at Nova and Damien just in time to see Nova kiss him full on the mouth as an end to the spell.

Damien blinked. “Okay, that was... nice.”

Nova smiled. “Thank you.”

“Can we go? The smell of blood is getting to me,” Rowan announced.

“Me too,” Garret said. “I’m hungry.” She shot him a disgusted look.

“Are they dead?” Nova asked as we walked outside and saw the blood on the ground, but no bodies.

“Nah, they ran,” Damien said then shrugged. “After a while.” We walked to the car. “So, who am I going with? And where am I going?”

“I guess you’ll ride with me,” Nova said. “Rowan?” All of our things were stuffed in the back seat.

“You can ride with me,” Garret said. “I promise, I’ll go slow.” By the tone of his voice she knew he wasn’t talking about the bike.

“And you actually wonder why I’m so violent towards you,” she growled softly. Nova and Damien were both snickering at our arguing.

He cocked his head to one side. “You’d prefer it fast?” With another growl she tackled him.

“And here we have the mating habits of the vampire. Watch and you’ll see the female pummel the male into submission.”

Rowan stood glaring at Damien. “Shut up.” Garret stood brushing off his cloths. she could see a smile threatening to emerge and shot him a glare too. Much to her annoyance he winked at her. She took the chance to study Damien. He was only a couple inches taller than her. He had clear blue eyes, they were a nice friendly color. His hair was in wild curls. He looked pretty normal and innocent, except his smile. He had a wicked mischievous smile.

“So,” Garret said, “are you going to ride with me?”

“Let’s meet at the pizza place near my house,” Nova said. “Rae, you have some explaining to do.”

Rowan laughed, a trifle nervously. “I guess that you’re probably wondering why he’s alive.”

“Yeah, I’m a little curious,” Nova said. “And I’m kinda wondering why you guys are so chummy.”

“We are not!” Rowan protested. “I don’t even like him.”

“I thought last night meant something to you,” Garret said with a mock sniffle. She rolled her eyes.

“Garret-” she started.

He turned away covering his face. “Don’t talk to me!” She hit his arm. “Ow. What?”

“You are such an idiot.”

“You know you want me.”

“Phht, as if.”

“This is strangely fascinating,” Nova admitted.

“We’ll meet you at the pizza place,” she announced. Nova and Damien got into the car. Garret flashed Rowan a smile before climbing onto the motorcycle. He turned it on and raised an eyebrow to her, waiting. She sighed getting on behind him.

“Hold on tight,” he advised.

“Gee, just what I always wanted.”

“I know.” She bristled at the smug tone to his voice.

“I was being sar-” The bike took off cutting her off. She wrapped her arms tightly around his waist as he started off. They followed Nova’s little Escort so Garret had to go sort of slow. After ten minutes Rowan gave into her curiosity and ran her hands over the hard planes of his chest. She was right. There wasn’t an inch of fat on him. She felt his chest rumble with a growl of approval.

/If you really want to explore run that hand a little lower./ “Ow!”

/Stop that./
/Not likely./ He pulled into the parking lot. Soon we were all sitting at a table. They ordered a large pizza.

“Explain,” Nova said.

“Did you really think I could kill someone?” she asked.

“No. Why did you lie?”

“I thought he’d leave. He wouldn’t listen.”

Garret rolled his eyes. “I told her I was staying. She wouldn’t listen either.”

“Garret,” Rowan said sweetly.

“Yes?”

“Bite me.”

“Okay,” he said with a shrug.

She was unprepared for his speed as he grabbed her arms to hold them down and leaned over her neck placing a bite there with just a hint of fang. His tongue followed, soothing any ache. She shivered. “One day,” she growled, “I will hurt you.”

“Mmm... S&M, can’t wait.” Rowan groaned, dropping her head onto her arms. “You taste good.”

“Shut up,” she pleaded not lifting her head.

“It’s funny,” Nova said. “Jesse never talked to her like this. In fact Jesse rarely showed any sexual interest in her at all.”

“Jesse is a fool.”

“So says the guy who tried to kill him,” she snapped.

Garret sighed, exasperated. “Rowan, sweetheart, I’ll say this one more time: I never touched him. Hell, I wouldn’t want to. If you really want proof, look into my mind. I’ll replay that night for you.”

“You would actually do that?”

“If that’s what you wanted.”

“I may take you up on that.”

“So, Damien,” Nova said interrupting the vampires. “Now that you’re free what are you going to do?”

“I was thinking college, can you three help me get in?”

“Of course,” Nova said. “Row?”

“No problem,” she said. “Garret?”

“No way in hell.” Rowan just looked at him. “What?”

“Why not?”

“Look, I’m cool with the ‘shifters. Nova, you and Camille don’t bother me either, but I draw the line at demons. I refuse to help. There’s nothing you can do-” she gave him her saddest puppy dog look. “Stop that. I’m not giving in.” He sighed. “Angel, it’s nothing against you, but-” He growled softly suddenly very tired. “I’m also kind of confused about why everyone says you’re so nice.”

“You’ll do it?”

“Reluctantly.”

“If we could harness the power that look who knows what kind of chaos we could create?” Nova said dramatically. /Row?/

/Yeah?/
/He’s a keeper. His aura isn’t as bright as Jesse’s but he’s definitely not evil. Go for it./

/I’m with Jesse./

/You’re on a break./

/This isn’t “Friends”, you know. “We’re on a break” isn’t a good enough excuse. I can’t date him./

Nova smiled at that. /Hey, who said anything about dating him? I’m talking about sex./

/Aren’t you always?/
/Funny. Rowan, you’ve been way too tense lately, I’m telling you- a long night of hot sex is just what you need. What do you have to lose?/

/Let’s see... Jesse’s friendship, my friends, my self-respect-/

“Okay!” Nova exclaimed out loud.

“Are you okay?” Damien inquired.

“We were just talking,” Rowan shrugged.

“About?” Garret asked.

“The probability of Rowan having sex with you,” Nova announced.

“Nova!” Rowan hissed not wanting to look at Garret.

“Just sex?” Garret asked flatly.

“Isn’t that what you want?” Nova asked more for Rowan than anything.

“No.”

Rowan looked at him in surprise. “It isn’t?”

“Rowan, I want to make love to you, that goes without saying, but I want more than that.” He smiled a little reaching out and taking her hand. “I want your heart.” A part of her melted at that statement.

“Garret-”

“But,” he continued, “I’m willing to wait until you’re willing to give up this stupid infatuation with Jesse.”

“Arrg!” she exclaimed.

“’Arrg’?” the others repeated dully.

“Why do you always do that?”

“What’d I do?” Garret asked.

“First you make me believe that maybe there’s some good in you. Maybe I was completely wrong about you. And then you go and say something stupid and insensitive like that.”

“This is like watching an undead soap opera,” Damien said.

“I know,” Nova agreed. “It makes me want some popcorn.”

“Just explain it to me,” Garret said gently. “Why would you want to be with him?”

“I already told you.”

“No, sweetheart, all you’ve told me is why you are staying with him. Why do you want to? Give me one good reason and I’ll back off.”

“I don’t owe you any explanations.”

“No, but if you want me out of your life...”

/You scare me./ The thought wasn’t even meant to be shared but for some reason she sent it. Garret immediately stood and took her hand leading her outside where they could speak privately.
