Fight of Lust

Merka slipped into the room and saw Selera sitting crosslegged on her bed. He frowned at this and slowly moved forward to try and awaken her. Instead he got startled as she opened her eyes and looked right at him. She slowly smiled and took a long deep breath.
“Merka good timing. I have a question for you.” Selera said softly with a worried smile.
“Oh what is it Selera?” Merka asked tilted his cheetah like head to one side.
“I killed a demon today, but I wonder what it ment. It said I was a child of light.” Selera said softly. Merka stared at Selera then down at the ground in thought.
“Selera I’ve seen your mother is it okay if I take a peek at your father?” Merka asked causing Selera to frown but shrug.
“Sure he’s in the living room.” Selera said softly wondering what Merka would want to know. She watched Merka slip out of the room and go partially down the steps till he could see her father. He stared for a moment then looked at Selera before heading back into the room frowning.
“That explains a lot. Far more than I ever expected. Selera if you want to you can tell your father everything.” Merka said causing Selera to blink.
“What why?” Selera asked and Merka shook his head.
“You’ll understand later but it is not my place to tell you.” Merka said softly.
“Well okay…” Selera trailed off then stood and walked down the stairs to look at her father. The glow she saw around him sometimes was there again. She frowned a bit then sighed and shut her eyes.
“Father.. I want to talk to you. Is that okay?” Selera asked nervously as he stood and moved over to her.
“Of course. What do you want?” He asked her. Selera sighed a moment in thought.
“Why do you glow father.” Selera asked causing him to stiffen in shock then look down at Selera.
“What do you mean Selera?” He asked blinking a tiny bit.
“You glow… it’s like a golden light around you. I don’t always see it, but I do once in awhile.” Selera said and watched as her father frowned.
“We will talk after supper and by ourselves.” He said and she nodded with a sigh.
“Thank you father.” Selera said softly and moved into the kitchen to help serve supper. The family ate together quietly Selera often looking out the window as she wondered what her father wanted to talk to her about. She sighed at one point as she finished eating she then looked at her father and smiled.
“I’ll meet you at my room for our conversation father.” Selera said as she excaused herself from the table and headed to her room. She walked in and Merka looked up from the corner.
“Don’t worry I’m staying here for this and he won’t see me unless I want him to.” Merka said calmly. He then laid back down silently. His eyes mostly shutting as he waited. Selera sighed softly then looked around a bit.
“Selera are you ready?” Her father asked walking in a bit. Selera looked up and nodded slowly.
“Yeah how are you doing father?” Selera asked softly as she sighed a moment.
“I’m fine. Now tell me about this glow.” He asked as he watched Selera’s eyes. She took a long slow breath then nodded a moment.
“It’s a golden light like aura around you. It seems more pure than anything I have ever imagined.” Selera said softly looking at her father.
“Well I can’t explain it to you.” He said and Selera noticed Merka stand and move towards her father.
“Micheal tell her the truth.” Merka said causing him to look at Merka. Her father stared his jaw open in shock.
“Merka what are you doing here?” Micheal cried out in shock as Merka sat down seemingly smirking.
“Father how do you know Merka?” Selera asked shocked. Micheal looked at Selera and smiled nervously.
“I should be the one asking you that…” Micheal said softly in deep thought.
“Tell her Micheal the full truth then she will explain.” Merka said with a slight nod to the man then curled up behind Selera.
“Selera I’m actually an angel. I’m on vacation after a millennia of service.” Micheal said slowly with a frown.
“You are an angel?” Selera cried out then looked at Merka. “That explains the demons reaction in calling me a child of light.”
“A demon has come up to you? What did he do he didn’t hurt you did it?” Micheal asked grabbing onto Selera looking her over in worry. Merka shook his head a moment with a soft sigh as Selera rolled her eyes.
“Dad I’m fine. I killed the demon.” Selera said softly with a slight sigh. Her father then looked at Merka then her.
“She’s the test?” Micheal cried out in shock. Selera blinked then looked at Merka.
“A test?” She growled angrily. Her eyes narrowed as she looked at Merka.
“Yes you are the first to have your powers.” Merka said softly shaking his head.
“You mean for all you knew they could of killed me? Or failed!” Selera snarled feeling her rage building.
“We knew it wouldn’t kill you, and I was there in case the power failed.” Merka pointed out as Micheal rubbed his temples.
“Selera this gives you a chance to survive though. As my child you would have been killed soon by the demons sensing you as a child of light.” Micheal said causing Selera to stare at her father.
“You mean I was gonna get hunted by these demons anyway?” Selera asked shock on her face.
“Yes you were, no child of light has lived past the age of 18.” Micheal said softly. Selera sat down as Merka got up.
“Which is why you were chosen as the field test Selera. You were going to get attacked anyways. This gives you a chance to escape that fate.” Merka pointed out softly. Selera took a few deep breaths then nodded a bit.
“Okay so now I understand the entire thing. Thank you dad.” Selera said and stood. She then moved and hugged him tightly as Merka nodded. While watching this Merka twitched at a feeling of darkness nearby that faded as quickly as it appeared.
“No problem Selera, and Merka if you do anything to harm Selera I will take it out of your hide.” Micheal warned the cheetah.
“I won’t don’t worry.” Merka said with a soft sigh. He watched Micheal leave the room and saw Selera sit still on her bed.
