Can I go?

Zanhmere rose from the bed and just like any other day she was beside him again. Trinity lay asleep in the crook of his side just like a faithful kitty cat.

"Master?" She yawned and wrapped her arm around him tighter before he could slip away completely. "Are you leaving again?"

"Yes, Pet. I have some things I must tend to."

Zanhmere pulled her into his arms and she laid her cheek against his shoulder. He stood completely with her in hand. She didn't want to be left again. Over a week has passed since he gave her that elixir and every day since he was out. Trinity grabbed on to him tighter. She missed being able to see him during the day.

"You aren't going to let go of me, are you , Pet?"

He didn't have to ask it. It wasn't a question. She had a death grip on him right now. Trinity shook her head profusely. No, she wasn't going to let go of him if she could help it.

"What's the matter?"

"Master, I don't want you to go again. I haven't gotten to see you hardly. I'm always asleep when you come back."

"I'm letting you sleep in my bed while I am away."

"I know, but still …" Trinity looked up at him now. She shifted her body in his arms slightly.

Zanhmere sat down in the black cushioned chair to the side and placed her on his lap. Trinity scooted and nudged her self against his chest and shoulder again. "I think I understand, Pet. You miss me spending the day with you."

"Yes, Master . You haven't been to the garden with me to see the snowman, and I haven't been able to brush your hair or anything."

"I have to go check on something today, sweet. It can not be helped."

"Where are you going?" Her sleepy little eyes fixed on him.

Zanhmere felt that familiar tug at his heart when she always looked at him that way. "Just a place up there."

Trinity knew she was down somewhere. She just didn't know where. The full details of her location were never completely given to her. He brushed back the messy curls of her hair and sighed. Trinity hugged him again with all her tiny might

"Can I go? I promise I will behave for you, Master. I only want to go and be with you."

He knew this was coming one of these days actually. He could see the curiosity burning in her eyes every time she asked about where he had been during that day. He saw it when she asked Mayven about his trips. He saw it when she asked him to tell her about up there in stories.

"Alright, Trinity. Go tell Missiva to get you ready for a trip. Brush your hair and do what you need. I will come to collect you from your room in just a little while."

"Really!? Thank you, Master!"

Trinity hugged him with renewed vigor. It pushed him back slightly in the chair to his surprise. Zanhmere chuckled and set her to the floor, Trinity 's grin was as wide as a Cheshire cat right now.

"Go on. Remember, in just a little so you don't have too long."

"Already going, Master!"

She took off in a quick dash. Trinity was out of the door and into the hall. Servants that were cleaning had to duck and dodge from the speeding child's path. The master must have told her something or promised her something to make her this excited. She ran straight to her room, not stopping for the door. She just flung it open and ran towards Missiva's bed. Missiva had a small bed to the side in the room. It was put there so that she could always be close to Trinity when she actually did sleep in the room.

"Missiva! Missiva, wake up! Wake up!"

She pounced on the poor sleeping woman. Missiva grunted as she rolled over to look at the overly excited girl.

"Master said to get me ready so I can go on a trip! I get to go with him up there!"

Trinity had no earthly idea that 'up there' meant above the gates and into the realm of humans. She had no clue that she was the live human down here. She was naive about most of these things but it was better to keep it this way for her sake.

"Oh? That is really neat, Trinity. Let me get up and I will help you."

Missiva wasn't totally sure that this was the best thing to do with her, but she couldn't stop it now. The master already promised it to Trinity before the idea was run by her. All she could do was hope that Zanhmere used some sense of intelligence and not do anything 'demon-like' while he was up there with her.

"What should I wear, Missiva?"

Trinity was going to one of her many closets and looking at all the pretty little clothes in there. Missiva chuckled and came up behind her. She pulled down a bluish-green dress with a headband that matched.

"I think this will do nicely. You will look pretty and still be dressed for travel all at the same time."

"Okay!"

Trinity trusted Missiva to the ends of the world. If she said it would be good, then it would. Missiva helped her get dressed and continued to help by brushing and smoothing Trinity's hair out. She added the last touches by placing the headband in her hair to pull it back and away from her eyes. Missiva also chose her flats for this because they were the most sensible to travel in and also looked good with the dress.

"There we go. You're all ready."

"I get to go with master. I get to go with master." Trinity did a small dance around the room. Nothing could have made the girl happier right now. Missiva shook her head, laughing at the silly actions. Trinity grinned in response and did a little twirl for her "Ta da!"

Missiva clapped for her. She was too cute sometimes. Trinity giggled, taking a small bow.

"Did I miss a show?"

"Master!" Trinity ran over to him and grabbed his hand.

He smirked and pulled her up into his large arms once again by tossing her into the air. Missiva gasped and clutched her chest watching the girl rise and suddenly fall. Trinity laughed louder when she was caught in his arms. She lay there cradled in his arms now. This was where she felt safest in the entire world.

"We shall be back later. See that you have her supper hot and ready for her as well as her evening bath."

"Yes, Master ." Missiva bowed her head to him.

Zanhmere took only seconds to actually acknowledge the woman before he stepped off with Trinity in his arms.

She sighed and leaned back when the two left. This job didn't grant you much attention that was plain to see. It beat being some person's sex slave or something, though. Missiva was sure that this would have been her fate had it not been for Trinity's need for a nanny. "She could have said bye or something."

Missiva was fooling her self with these words. She knew better. Trinity was mostly being raised by a man that never said please, thank you, or your welcome in his life! She was surprised that Trinity had the polite manners that she did. She was more surprised that the master let her use them with other people.

"Oh well" She spoke to her self. "Guess I better clean up this room a little and go fix Master's bed."

Missiva started her long, boring duties. Trinity, on the other hand, was just starting her fun adventure with the master. She was covered completely, so she could not see, with Zanhmere's cloak. He let himself flame away to the world up there with the girl safely in hand. The flames would not harm or touch her. Even they seemed to be scared of this demon king.

"You ready to see?"

"Yes, Master."

Trinity's voice was muffled under the large black traveling cloak. He pulled it away from her but he chuckled because her eyes were closed. Trinity was nervous. This was first time in six years that she had ever left the safety of his palace walls.

"Open your eyes, Pet."

"Okay, Master ." Trinity peeked one eye open; slowly at first. This was odd. She just woke up and it was dark outside! Her other eye opened slowly and he placed her on the ground now. Where did the sun go? She remembered some things about the outside. She knew when you woke up that the sun was there. The sun always shone in the garden for her. Why didn't it shine here?

"Master?"

"Yes?"

"Where did the sun go?"

"It has gone down." Zanhmere took her hand in his. The glowing lights of a town showed below the hill they were on. He pulled her along with him gently. She walked along with a confused look on her face.

"Master, if it is dark..."

"We are just beginning our day, Trinity. In our home we sleep during the day and come out during the night."

"They don't do that here?"

"Most of them don't. Some do, but you have all sorts of people up here that do things strangely."

"I remember doing that. Before you got me, I think." Trinity looked up at him.

He nodded to her statement. She did use to do that, but not anymore. She was on a Demon 's schedule now. It was very rare that someone ever heard of a demon attacking in the light of day. "You don't
anymore. That is all that is important or all that matters."

"Yes, Master ."

"Trinity." He stopped at the edge of the entrance to the town. "When we go inside, I want you to stay right beside me. I am sure you will see many things and many people that might catch your interests, but do not go to them."

"I will stay right beside you master. I promise I will be a good girl."

"Very well. I also want you to keep quiet when I tell you to."

"Okay, Master ."

"Lets go." He lead her to a cobblestone path way just to the side of the street.

She saw horses tied outside buildings. Trinity watched as people rode by in carriages on the dirt street. Women smiled and waved at her. She was a very cute little girl who did not look her age at all. She did not wave back to the people. Trinity wanted to but she would listen to her master.

He lead her towards the end of the cobblestone path were a larger building stood. He stopped just in front of it with her. "Stay right here. I have to go inside and speak privately to some people."

"Stay here alone, Master?"

"I will only be a minute. I trust you enough to be able to wait right here for me; and remember, no matter what you hear from these people or their houses, do not pay attention to it. They are nothing like us."

"O... Okay, Master." Trinity looked apprehensive about having to stay out here alone.

He thought for a second and quickly removed his cloak. She sighed when she felt the warmth of it surround her. Trinity smiled and looked up at him.

"Master, may I go sit under that tree over there? I can see the sky better and that way I won't be where they can see me."

"That is a very smart idea. When did my pet become such a smart thing?"

"Master." Trinity giggled. "I'll walk over there while you're watching me. When I am over there then you can go inside and have your meeting."

"That sounds like a plan, Pet."

Trinity hugged him quickly before walking away to the distant tree. He watched her shadow shrink smaller and smaller until she disappeared under the shade of the tree. Trinity sat down on the grassy ground below and started to play with the flowers and blades of grass that grew there. She kept the cloak around the whole time for security purposes. She didn't see that her master was now gone from the front of the building. He was inside tending to what needed to be done.
