Chapter 6

Where the Fish Swim 6

Light…I am once again floating in the familiar luminescence. All troubles gone once again.

I lay here in this place once again. No pain, no worries. Just the non-changing light that bathes my body and washes through my soul.

I never want to leave. Why should I leave? What is there?

“There is nothing” a voice from within answers. ‘Just stay and be happy. Let this pure light comfort you.

Yes, this light feels good. The pureness washes away my fear and doubt, but...it seems…dimmer. ..No...It is the same light. It is the light that is there.

Thinking hurts. “Then don’t think. Drift. Nothing will happen if you do nothing in return.

Nothing. Yes. There is nothing.

An image suddenly flashes in the light. “Kari!”

As I scream this I jolt myself into a sitting position and smack my head against hard wood.

“Holy shit man! What you doin? Trying ta give me a heart attack?”

“Damn it” I mutter while clutching my head in pain and anger as white hot pain shoots through my eyes and then clutching my left arm as blood starts to run from the wound.

“Damn man! Do you know how long she spent stitching that wound up for ya?”

Still clutching my head I open one eye to see that dark skinned stranger from earlier, smiling at me.

The stranger didn’t exactly look strong, but he wasn’t a twig either. He has short black curly hair and green eyes. It is hard to tell from how I am sitting, but he appears to be a few inches taller than myself.

I cut my observation of the new man as I feel several pricks and tugs on my left arm. I move my arm down to see what it is.

“Hold still! I want these to heal right!” says a wildly working Kari as she sews the tares in my arm closed. She is working with a face of concentration, but I can see by her red eyes and tear streaked face that she has been crying before this.

“Kari…” is all I can say. For once I don’t know what to say to her as her works busily away at my arm, so I decide to try my luck with the stranger.

“Ummm…hey.”

“Don’t you hey me! Wha the hell were you doing out there without a guide?!? You didn’t even have a weapon! You tryin to get you both killed?”

“A guide? What the hell are you talking about? You’ll have to excuse me, we aren’t from here. Speaking of here…Where the hell is here?”

“Wait? You mean you were just wandering around without any idea where you were? You idiot!”

“Shut the hell up! You know nothing!” I yell flexing my right arm and preparing to stand up. Kari must have felt my muscles tense up because she gave a rather painful tug at my arm.

“There. All done! Now don’t go ripping it open again!” Kari says sweetly with a smile on her face.

“Kari…” Again, I am stunned. After all that has happened and all the losses we have sufferer....she smiles. Her face is still tear stained, but yet she smiles…for me.

My heart suddenly skips a beat as I blush while looking at her face.

I quickly look away to the stranger to hide my blush.

Seeming to see what I was thinking, the stranger asks “So, you said you aren’t from around here. Where are you from?”

I look at Kari and she nods to me silently before looking at the man.

“We are from a small town near a river named.-“she begins as she recalls our story thus far to this man. As the story progresses, her voice starts to waver until the point where she breaks down crying. I wrap my arms around her as she cries into my chest once again. I then look up at the man, who looked torn between staying to listen and running away, and tell the rest of our story. When I finish telling our tale thus far we sit in silence as Kari’s sobs grow lass and less until she stops and looks up.

So, she says wiping her eyes on her hands, what is your name?

The man, appearing relieved to get onto another more friendly subject, replies “Militinus Gryffyn. But I am called Miles by my friends.

“I am Hikari Murro” She says lightly shaking his hand. “You can call me Kari” She says cutely with a slight tilt to her head.

“I am Kiroshi Nagisara. You may only call me Kiroshi” I say gripping his hand rather tightly

So…I begin to say, looking around at the dark wood interior of the room, where is this place?

“This is my home town. It is called Arakisanshu. This village is named after the the god Arakisanshu who used his great powas of earth to liberate ah land far above da forests and other donjas.”

“Great. Great. Now let’s get the hell outta here” I say starting to stand up. The moment I reach my feet, my head throbs and my vision becomes blurry. I wobble a few times before Kari lays me down on the bed.

“I’ll show you round da village latta man. Fo now get rest man. You need if afta what you done.”

I am going to retort a protest at him when Kari lays a hand over my eyes. Her hand is warm, smooth, and sooths me.

“Tomorrow Kiro-chan. Tommarow.” Kari whispers into my ear.

I don’t know if it is the warmth of her comforting hand or her soothing voice in my ear, but I can feel myself drifting off to sleep once again.

‘Kari” Is the only word that fills my mind as I fade into dream once again.

End of chapter 6

How did you like it? Someone new introduced finally! Heh.

I have been told that this looks more like a horror than a fantasy, so this finally proves them wrong! Nothing died this chapter!

Well, I know I enjoy writing this and shall do so more frequently now. I know there are quite a few people who wait to read my new chapters, so it is my duty to give them to you!

Please tell me what you think! I always love to hear!
