Back to School
Fuji looked up at the school with a large feeling of dread. She had not been hoping to spend the next two years of her life in a school filled with girls. She knew the stories of those who went to an all girl’s school. Granted, at one point in life those types of schools had been elegant, filled with women with promising futures. Now and all girls school meant that they were wild. There was no one to impress, no one that would see them besides other girls. Standards went down and now the girls were going to an all girls school because there was no other place for them, though this school was supposed to be top of the line, which meant that Fuji was the one out of place. She had been at public school nearly all of her life, now for the last moments of high school she would blend with the elite. It was the first time in her life that Fuji felt out of place in high society. She had been bred for this, and now she was in a school where all of these women had a higher breeding.
She watched the ladies around her walk passed, their heads held high, their friends beside them looking just as stiff. Very little conversation was going on, and the ones who were having conversations were the new freshmen. Fuji walked over the front court carefully, glancing this way and that, wondering how much about her own world she did not really know. She was ready to try her hardest, ready to fit in like never before until she spotted something out of the corner of her eyes. Something that made her forget she was going to try to act like a lady. Something that mad her want to attack instantly.
Standing the far corner, deep in conversation with another senior girl, was Danko. She looked positively butch in the extremely feminine dark uniform. She had sheered her hair even shorter than it had been before, and it was even slightly buzzed on the sides. Fuji stopped walking and could not help but to stare straight at her.
Danko spotted her staring, and instead of staring she gave her the largest smile that had ever come off of the girl and began to walk over to her. Fuji panicked. She looked around her, ready to run away. Everyone’s eyes were on Danko, looking at her, unsure of what to make of her, and she was aiming straight for Fuji.
“I bet you didn’t expect to see me here,” Danko smiled down at the shorter girl. “I tested right in.”
“Who did you cheat off of?” Fuji snapped.
“Why, you my dear,” Danko laughed. “No one could test into this school this late into the game but you, so I copied your test. I changed a few answers here and there, so I would not be the same as you completely, but, you have a surprise for us. They put you ahead a full year because of your test scores.” Fuji looked up at Danko with wide eyes. “We’re in the same class, it’s how I figured it out. Have you even told your dear friends you will be graduating a year early?”
Fuji sighed and began walking, doing her best to rush in front of Danko, but the eyes continued to watch them, and Fuji looked like an angry girlfriend to them as Danko looked like the teasing lover. “I do not have time for you, Danko,” she snapped loudly. “I do not think anything that I do is any of your business.”
“Won’t Yuki and Shai be hurt by your keeping it from them?” Danko asked, her long legs faster than Fuji’s, and while Fuji was trying to ignore her pain, she was doing her best to keep at a steady distance from Danko.
“Leave me alone, Danko,” Fuji sneered.
“That’s all right,” Danko smiled. “You don’t have to tell me. After all, we are in the same class and I have plenty of time to bother you.”
Fuji whirled around on Danko and placed her hands firmly on her hips. “Did you join this school just to irritate me?” she growled.
Danko stepped forward, forcing Fuji to step back. Danko backed Fuji into the wall and leaned forward. This had even more female eyes glancing at them, jealous and loathing all at the same moment. “Well, with Kaori gone, I need a new best friend.”
“I know what you think of your best friends, Danko,” snapped Fuji, “and I have too many admirers right now as it is.”
Danko leaned forward so close, and if anyone was watching (everyone was) it would look like she was kissing Fuji, her lips brushing right against the side of her mouth. “We will see how this goes for us,” she said with a sneer. She reached down and smacked Fuji right on the ass then walked down the halls and towards their joined classroom.
“Damn it!” Fuji cried out after the horrid girl. Now Danko had something over Fuji. She could easily tell Yuki and Shai she had been lying to them. She had avoided telling them for months that she had skipped a year and would instantly go to her senior year of high school. She wanted to tell them, but she was afraid to tell them. It even scared her. Next year she would most likely be going to Tokyo University, if her mother had anything to say about it, and she would be miles away from home. She would not be around for four years. Yes, there were summer breaks, but she would be so far, she would miss Shai’s growing child, Yuki’s… Yukiness. She did not want to leave them yet!
Fuji walked into her new classroom and looked around. The girls who had been striving so hard for elegance early this morning were acting typical of any girls who were filled with gossip. They looked at Fuji as she stepped into the school and all of them had grins of mischief. At the back of the class sat Danko, looking smug and self-satisfied.
Fuji walked to the back of the classroom. Before she could speak Danko had her arms wrapped around her and pulled her down into the hair beside her. “That is where you belong,” Danko smiled happily.
“You are going to make my life miserable here, aren’t you?” Fuji asked, leaning her head onto her hand.
“You bet!”
“Okay, I have never gone to school like this before!” Yuki screamed over the roar of the wind from the back of Shinwa’s motorcycle. She had never been so excited, she had never even been on a motorcycle before. The feel of the vibration between her legs was exciting, and turning her on more than she wanted it to. She shuddered a bit behind him and gripped tighter onto him.
“Well, since Shai isn’t coming this way, and Fuji had to take a bus, this was the one opportunity I had!” he shouted back over the wind.
Yuki nearly drooled, but instead she tried to act cool as the motorcycle pulled up towards the school. Shinwa hopped off and helped Yuki down. Her legs wobbled, and her body had a tough time staying upwards. Gravity was fighting her and winning. Shinwa’s arms went around her and caught her, keeping her standing in place before she toppled to the ground. “You all right?” he asked of her.
“Of course,” she said sweetly, smiling up at him with adoring eyes. “I have never felt better in my life.” Shinwa laughed and began walking with her towards the school, the two of them arm and arm. “You know,” Yuki continued speaking, without little thought to the pause in conversation. She felt more at ease when the world was filled with noise, “this is so weird. I have never started a first day of school without Fuji or Shai by my side. Now Fuji is at the private school, and Shai is at home whining about being fat, and I’m walking towards the school with an upperclassman on my arm. I love my friends, but I could get used to this.”
“Well, next year you will be the upperclasswoman and you won’t be able to walk with me on your arm,” Shinwa pointed out.
“Maybe not,” Yuki admitted, “but I will have you drive me to my first day of school on your ripped motorcycle and I will brag about my lead singer boyfriend, who is now a college man going off to study… um…” Yuki stopped walking and tried her best to concentrate. “Um, what do you plan on studying?”
Shinwa shrugged. “Honestly,” he said, “I have not thought about the future all that much since we spoke last. I have only thought of how I love to be with you.”
“But you must think of the future,” Yuki insisted. “You must. So one day, when we are older we’ll have something to keep us, after we have had all of our adventures.”
Shinwa leaned forward and kissed Yuki on the cheek softly, knowing all eyes still watched her enviously. “What are you planning for your future?”
Yuki’s mouth opened, and then closed. She ground her toes into the ground as she thought on how to answer him. She took a deep breath and said, “I want to be a video game designer… Does that make me a geek?”
“Sure does,” Shinwa nodded in solemn agreement. He brought his hand up to his chin and looked towards the sky. “This may change my whole perspective on our relationship.” Yuki was stricken, taking a vast step back, until Shinwa smiled broadly, looking down at her with ease. “It may make you a geek, but with your veracity, you are sure to do just that.”
Yuki jumped up and forced herself into Shinwa’s arms. He held her close, taking her into the folds of his body and snuggling against her. “Thank you for believing in me.”
“What else are boyfriends for?”Shinwa asked with his usual dashing smile.
Yuki had many ideas of what else boyfriends were for, but kept them quietly to herself. After Kago she was still a little weary about taking a man to bed, though she knew Shinwa would never hurt her like that. She liked the freshness, and purity, of the relationship, though she was yearning for a kiss that melted her toes instead of left her needing more. He seemed to have his own fears about a real relationship, and Yuki could not fault him that. After all, his last girlfriend had taken her life, granted after they broke up, but she had been someone he had once loved. Watching Shai nearly jump that day had only rattled him more. Shinwa may have always acted cool, but Yuki knew somewhere in that heart of his he was still fighting off his own demons.
The two of them walked towards the school together, hand in hand, watching the crowds as the crowds watched them. Both held beautifully painted smiles, and Yuki did not know if she was smiling for happiness, or fear that a camera would catch her off guard again.
Her smile wilted a bit at the sight of a dark haired boy who stood out, even though he was hardly taller than the rest of the guys. He was closer to Fuji’s height than anything else. He seemed to have already made friends in the school and was with a bunch of guys who were definitely the wrong crowd. His uniform was sloppy and his hair was wild. For a moment Yuki forgot he was the enemy and felt her heart skip a beat in her chest. He was gorgeous in a godly sort of way, and deep down she knew he was the devil. She heard how he had treated poor Fuji. She would not allow him to escape with such thoughts that he was better than her in any way, because he might be more miserable than her.
“Devilin,” she nearly snarled to herself, looking over towards Shinwa to see if he had noticed. He hadn’t. His eyes were on some beautiful leggy blonde that was walking past. Yuki reached up her other hand and sharply pinched Shinwa’s arm.
“Ow!” he cried, turning to look down at her in surprise. “What was that for?”
“Stop watching other women,” Yuki snapped.
Shinwa leaned down and kissed Yuki sweetly on the forehead. “I was only thinking how much prettier you were than her,” he told her.
“Yeah right,” Yuki rolled her eyes. “I’m not that dumb, but since I like you I’ll choose to believe you since it will make my day.”
Shinwa gave Yuki a large hug and walked her straight past Devilin, who did not even look up from his conversation with his friends. Something about him made Yuki uneasy, but she could not decide which type of unease it was. She was only glad that she could be the one keeping an eye on him while Fuji was off in a different school.
