Taking Chances

Jordan looked down at her. He didn't realize that she even liked him that much. "Ana, I do have to leave sooner or later. That much is for certain. Maybe you can come with us though? Angie seems to like you and I know I do. “He knew it was a lot to ask, why should she leave? Why couldn't he?

"I can’t just leave," she said, "I have this place to run...I have...” she stopped. I knew this was going to happen I shouldn’t have let it. You came here for your daughter. Now you have her. You can leave whenever."

Anna... “He didn't know what to say. He had more time that he could take off, so he didn’t' have to leave right away. "Let’s enjoy the time that we have, unless you don't want to."

Annaliza looked up into his eyes, "I cant," she said, "The more time I spend with you the more I..." she stopped and just walked away. She couldn’t take it. It was hurting too much even though she knew it shouldn’t.
Jordan didn't know what to do. He hadn't planned on falling for someone in the wilds of Mexico, but he couldn't stop the fact that he did. He closed the distance between them in a couple of steps and he reached out for her arm. As he grasped it, he gently turned her to him. As she looked at him, he melted. Seeing her sad almost broke his heart. Without a word he brought his mouth to hers for a kiss. He didn't know if it would be the first or the last one he would be able to get from her.

At first Anna fought him. She shoved at his chest but he would give. Then she melted against him. She figured she might as well make use of this moment since it probably wouldn’t happen again. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her body into his.

Her perfume penetrated him to his core, the wonderful scent urging him on. He wrapped his arms around her and held her tightly against him as he deepened the kiss. She relaxed in his hold and soon it felt to him as if they were one being, perfectly balanced and fulfilled.

The kiss could have gone on forever he thought until he heard some giggling from nearby. He turned, afraid that his daughter was standing there, but it turned out that it was just a young Mexican girl giggling at them kissing. He reluctantly pulled his head back so they could breathe and he relaxed his hold on Ana, but didn't let her go completely.

Anna looked down. She couldn’t look up into his eyes. It had lasted as long as it was going to and she would be satisfied. She tried to move back but he wouldn’t let her go.

The urgency that he felt from Ana to be away from him took Jordan by surprise and he let her go slowly. "Ana, I..." his voice trailed off as she turned away from him.

"I'm not sorry for that," she told him truthfully, "Its just am not used to kissing a man in front of my friends." she turned to look at him, "Thank you."

"No thanks necessary. I just hope that isn't where we have to end what is between us. As for your friends, I apologize if I embarrassed you." Jordan took a step back, waiting to see what Ana was going to do.

She took a step forward, "You didn’t," she said, "Not in the way you think." she looked around him to see Angie watching them. She walked around him to go to her.

Jordan followed her with his eyes until he saw Angie looking at them from across the way. ~Had she seen us? ~ he thought with a touch of worry.

"Do you like my daddy?" Angie asked straight out. Ana looked back at Jordan but nodded to Angie, "yes," she said. She didsee see the point to lying to her, "And does he like you?" Angie asked. Ana shook her head, "I don’t know but we will let you know ok?" Angie nodded.

Jordan waited back for them to talk for a moment then he walked up to Angie. She jumped up into his arms. "Do you like Miss Ana, Daddy?"

“Well, I suppose I do. Is that all right with you?"

"Yeah. I like her too." Angie said with an innocent smile.

Ana smiled and gave Angie a kiss on the back before stroking her hair, "now what?" she asked Jordan. She was confused. She didn’t know what to do now. It had been a while.

He turned and looked behind Angie's back at Ana. In a lower than normal tone, Jordan answered. "I don't know, but I'd like to find out. With you."

She smiled. Even though she was nervous she wanted that too, "Hey Angie how about some ice-cream?" she asked. Angie nodded happily, "Follow me."

Jordan followed Ana, not sure exactly where she was taking them. ~Perhaps I can get Ana's friend to baby-sit tonight and Ana and I can talk about it some. ~

In the kitchen Ana scooped some chocolate ice-cream out for Angie, "and you?" she asked Jordan, "What would you like?"

"Chocolate would be fine." Jordan watched as she scooped some out for him and herself.

She then sat down beside Angie to eat hers. Her mind was working on over drive. Would she close down the motel? Would she leave Mexico? What would she do?

Jordan saw the worry and confusion wash over Ana's face. "Are you ok?" he asked in a low voice so as to not interrupt Angie. "Perhaps we can have your friend from the front desk watch ditu for a couple hours and we can talk,” he said, motioning to Angie

"That wouldn’t be right," Ana said, "You just found her." she looked at Angie, "I can wait."

"I don't want to loose her... or you." Jordan looked at his watch, it was nearing ten. "It’s almost her bedtime anyway." He looked over at Angie. The party must have taken it out of the poor girl, because she was almost falling asleep at the table, spoon in hand. "I'll take her over to my room now I think."

"Ok," Angie said getting up to put her bowl in the sink. She watched as Jordan picked up Angie, "Night Ana," Angie called. "Good night baby," Ana said blowing her a kiss.

As he picked her up, he looked over at Ana. "Can you come get the door of my room for me? That way I don't have to fumble with her and the keys?"

Ana hesitated but then nodded. She walked ahead of him to get the door then walked ahead of him to his room. She didn’t know if she was doing the right thing or not.

Ana opened the door as Jordan brought Angie into the room. He set her down on the bed and fumbled trying to get the dress off of Angie so he could get her into some pajamas that he had brought in hopes of finding her. Finally he got her dressed without causing her to wake up too much. As he covered her up, he looked up, not expecting to see Ana still there. He thought she had just opened the door and the left.

Ana didn’t know why she hadn’t left. Maybe it was to make sure Angie was ok. Maybe it was...she stopped thinking and just turned around. She walked to the balcony and held on tight with both hands...

Jordan watched her go as he turned off the light. He followed her out to the balcony, closing the door gently. He walked up next to her and put one hand on hers and he leaned on the rail.

"Why am I so confused?" she asked, "If it wasn’t for Angie I would go with you. But she needs to get used to it and I don’t want her to feel as though I am replacing her mother and then hate me..." she stopped and took a deep breath, "there is so many things conflicting.."

"Angie has seen a lot of heartache in her life already. Things were never that good between her mother and me; even when she was little. I can't say what will happen with her and what she will think about you. But the same issues would come up if I were to come here and stay with you. Except that her mother would be around and _that_ would make things more difficult." Jordan put an arm around

Ana. "There aren't any easy answers here, only hard questions."

"No kidding," she said sadly. She wanted more but didn’t want to ask for it. She was afraid. She didn’t know what kind of mother she would be to Angie. She knew that Angie was tender and fragile and she didn’t want to do anything to scare her at all, "What do I do?"

Jordan shrugged. "I can't answer that for you. I would like for you to be with me though. I know it is a lot to ask considering we just met not a day ago. But I am willing to take that chance, both for me, and for Angie."

Ana looked up at him to make sure he was not lying. She smiled when she saw what she wanted. She stepped closer to him and pressed into his body.

Jordan wrapped his arms around her and held her firmly, resting his cheek on the side of her head. He hoped that this meant that she had decito sto stay with him, at least long enough to decide if he was worth staying with forever.

Ana let out a long pent up breath, "I hope I am not making a mistake," she muttered.

"I don't think you are. At least I hope you aren't, because if you are, it will be my fault." Jordan knew about what happened with Katherine, it was partially his fault and the fact that he might end up doing it again scared the hell out of him.

"Don’t say that," she said truthfully, "I'm a grown woman I can take care of myself."

"Yeah, you are. And a very wonderful woman at that." Jordan brushed some hair out of her face. The night air was growing cooler, "Its getting cold. Maybe we should move inside."

Ana smiled, "Is that a proposition?" she joked.

"It could be, but only if you want to share a bed with a four year old." He chuckled. "Honestly, she sleeps pretty soundly and we can sit in the kitchenette and talk if you want."

"Ok," Ana said smiling. She took his hand and walked back to the room.

He led her to the kitchette and pulled out the two chairs at the small table. Turning on the small light over the stove, he sat down in one of the chairs.

Ana dismissed the other chair and moved to sit in his lap. She wrapped her arms around his neck, "Where we?"

Jordan didn't want to do anything he wasn't welcome to so he hit the ball back into her court. "Why don't you remind me?"

Ana smiled and lowered her lips to his. Then she looked at him, "remember now?"

"It’s coming back to me." He lifted his head to hers and slid his hand along her thigh as he kissed her neck.

Ana shivered and whispered, "Are you sure we should be doing this now?"

"Well, I don't think we should do anything freaky, but I don't think there is anything wrong with just a little cuddling." In fact, he hadn't planned on doing anything unkyunky, just enjoying her company for a while.

Ana rested her head on his shoulder and smiled, "I am so tired."

"It’s been a long day for all of us." He stood up and lifted Ana off his lap. He carried her over to the second bed in the room and he laid her down on it. "Sleep here tonight.” When it looked like she was going to object he kissed her on the forehead. "I'll sleep on the floor. It'll be good for Angie to see someone she knows in the room."

"You don’t have to do that," she told him, "I mean this is your room. Besides this bed is big enough."

He smiled at her. "While I'm sure that Angie would like to see you when she wakes up. I'm _sure_ she wouldn’t want to see you sleeping in the same bed as her father. Might scar her little mind." He slid his hand down her side to her thigh as he walked around the bed. "I'll be fine on the floor. Certainly wouldn't be the worse place I have slept recently."

Ana smiled sadly at him and lay down, "If you insist."

"Believe me, its taking everything I have not to climb in that bed with you, but I think this is best tonight. Maybe you can move us to a two bedroom suite tomorrow." He flashed a grin and took a pillow off the bed so he would have one on the floor and then pulled off his shirt.

Ana watched him by moving so that her head was hanging off the bed on his side, "You and your self restraint," she cursed in a joke.

Jordan smiled and reached his arm up to stroke the side of her face. "Yeah, all of us good guys have it, if just a little bit of it. Though you could come down here for a while if you wanted. I don't think my self restraint could take that kind of pressure."

She smiled and shook her head, "nope," she winked, "I'll let you wait. Its fun that way."

"Well, I just meant for some involved conversation, of course." He sat up and kissed her on the lips. "I wouldn't do anything with you that you wouldn't want."

"Who said I wouldn’t want?" she winked at him, "I just tend to make a lot of noise."

Jordan smiled. “Somehow I don’t doubt that,” he said as he lay back down on the pillow.
