Missing
Donovan woke up with a start. It took him a moment to remember where he was. The arm draped across him was a quick reminder though; that and the rest of the body lying against his side. ~Well, it wasn't a dream I guess.~ He felt kind of bad, not for making love to Robyn, but for lying in bed with her when he should be out there watching for Micheal.
Robyn felt a movement and moaned. She then snuggled into Donovan's body, "What’s the hurry?" she groaned.
"No hurry, just done sleeping. Is it ok if I take a shower? I could use one."
She grinned and kissed his bare chest, "Be my guest," she said leaning to lie on her back to watch him walk to the shower in her bedroom.
Instinctively he grabbed his holster and pants and took them in with him. "I'll just be a minute." No sense in leaving a gun in easy reach of anyone. He walked inside the bathroom but left the door open a crack so he could hear.
Robyn pulled her sheets up to her chest and rolled over to reach for the phone. She dialed a number but got a voice mail, "Damnit Molly where are you? I've been calling for days. Call me back." She hung-up and listened to the water flowing.
The water was warm and inviting, giving him plenty of time to think about the night before. Not a man to have regrets, he instead tried to analyze what had happened and why. It was the cop in him he supposed. After he was finished, he got dressed in the clothes from the previous day. "Your turn," he said as he walked out. His eyes fell on her and he understood why he found her attractive. Her dark body and nice figure looked even better to him now than it did the night before.
Robyn got up and walked nakedly into the shower. She took her shower and washed her hair then wrapped a giant towel around her and walked back into her bed room. She got dressed and quietly went downstairs to make some coffee.
"I guess I am worrying too much," she said, "I have this friend and I can’t find her."
"Can't find her? Who is she? I can check the sheets for you today, see if something has happened to her."
"Her name is molly," she said, "This is not like her at all."
"Not like her to not be available? Perhaps she is out with family or a boyfriend." Donovan had slipped into police mode. "Can you contact her family?"
"No family," Robyn said flipping on the coffeemaker, "This is strange; I went to her place yesterday and knocked, but nothing."
"Do you think we should look for her?" A passing thought ran through his mind and he latched onto it. "Can you describe her to me?"
"23, black, woman as you know, short black hair," she said, "What are you thinking?"
Donovan frowned inwardly. "It's probably nothing. One other question, and don't try to read anything into it. Did Chad know her?"
"Of course he knew her," Robyn said pouring out two cups of coffee, "She was my maid of honor." Robyn left the room and got a picture of her wedding with her and Molly, "here she is... Isn’t she pretty?"
Molly looked enough like Robyn to be a sister or cousin and they both looked enough like the first of Micheal Christenson's victims to also be related. ~Damn, ~ he thought as he handed the picture back. "I'm sure she's fine." He usually was good with hiding his emotions, but even he knew it sounded hollow.
"Yah," she said handing him coffee, "I hope so." she moved toward the window to open it and saw a man running across her garden, "HEY!" she yelled and bolted pass Donovan out the door. She took off around the back after the man, "Stop you pervert!" she yelled. As she caught up to him she leaped through air, landing on backback. They both tumbled to the ground and he began fighting to get back up.
Donovan shot off after Robyn as she ran off, but he was at a loss to why. After he got outside he pulled his weapon ran across the back yard. Within a few feet he saw Robyn tackle a blonde haired man. He pointed his service pistol at the pile that they made as they wrestled on the ground. "Police, get up."
Robyn got off him then looked up at the man that Donovan began to drag up off the ground, "I remember you," she said as she moved over to punch him, "You're that man that always came over when Chad was here...what were you doing looking through my window?"
The man cringed and Donovan pulled him away from Robyn's punch and handcuffed him. "You might want to answer her question; If not I leave you handcuffed and I leave you to her. Now, what are you doing here?"
"It’s not a crime to go for a walk now is it?" he asked. Robyn had to grind her teeth to keep from saying anything. She made a fist and walked up closer to him, "Let’s try that answer again shall we?" she asked getting angrier.
Donovan brought the man’s arms up into double chicken wings and pulled upwards. He groaned in pain. "We have you for trespassing and voyeurism. Want to go with resisting arrest and lewd conduct? Now, as the lady said, try again."
"I was checking in ok," the man said, "I got a phone call last night saying that Chad was home and if he was I would be a dead man. I just wanted to make sure he wasn’t."
"Who called you? And don't say you don't know. "
"I really don’t know," the man pleaded, "the caller id said unknown caller. The voice sounded as though...You know when you are using batteries in a radio and the batteries are dying?"
Donovan slapped the man upside the head. "Don’t try to embellish. Why would you be dead if Chad was out? Did you forget to return his NMBLA magazines?"
"What...” the man started but Robyn moved up to him he stopped, "No...I testified against him in court."
"And what was your testimony about?" Donovan reached down with his free hand and pulled out his cell phone and started dialing.
"Just about where he got the children he filmed,” The man said, "A lot of people went to jail for that part of it.”
“Yeah, dispatch. This Is Snipes. Can you send a patrol to 323 Willow Street? I have a pickup for you.” Donovan waited for a confirmation and then hung up the phone. He lookedk atk at the man who he was holding. “Now, you said something about the man’s voice?”
"It was creepy," the man said, "It sounded like the batteries to his radio were way too weak. It was all distorted...But whoever called told me that Chad was back and gunning for me. So I came to check it out."
"Chad is still in prison, for now. You shouldn't have to worry about him for a while." He looked over at Robyn who was still fuming. "You want to ask him any questions?"
"I want to break his face but I doubt I’m allowed to do that."
"Unfortunately no. At least he will be cooling off in jail for a day or two." As he finished his sentence a black-and-white pulled up. "Go back inside Robyn. I'll be there in a minute. Looking at the man he said, "Let’s go."
Robyn only turned and went inside and picked up her phone. "Molly Dammit; where are you? Call me... you know my number." she hung up the phone and began pacing.
Donovan gave the man to the officer and explained he would do the booking papers later. After a few minutes he went inside to see Robyn pacing the floor. He walked up to her and put his hand on her shoulder. "He's gone now... you tried to call Molly again?"
"Yah," she said, "Bobkiss... nada... nothing," she said throwing up her arms, "I'm going over there," she said and grabbed her keys off the counter and her cell off the charge. She grabbed her purse and headed out to her Aztec, "You coming?"
He grabbed his coat. "Let’s take my car. At least it will be official. I'll drive." He followed her out of the house, taking a moment to himself to marvel at her ass again. "Just tell me where we need to go."
"150 Birch Street," she said climbing into the passenger side of the car, "I hope she is alright.”
Donovan climbed in and started the Crown Victoria up. ~I hope so too, ~ he thought as he put it in gear.
Robyn felt a movement and moaned. She then snuggled into Donovan's body, "What’s the hurry?" she groaned.
