~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The rifle swung and Akira smacked it away. She swung again only he caught it. Just then her foot came up and slammed into his head. He stumbled, dazed up against the wall. Turning his head jerked it to the side as the rifle butt slammed into the wall next to him. “Holy…!” There was a snarl as Rash barreled into the woman knocking her off balance.
As she fell she smashed the rifle against the wolf’s head. Mace cried out as the wolf fell to the ground not moving. Akira grabbed a hold of Mace before he could run over to Rash. “Mace, stay behind me.” She flipped the rifle around as Mace cried out. Moving forward Akira knocked the gun up as she pulled the trigger. The loud sound echoed through the hall. The woman turned on Akira.
“Give me Mace!”
“Go to hell.” The rifle pointed at Akira.
Sara swallowed, “I don’t think you want to piss her off.”
“What and give her Mace so she could do as she pleases. Like hell.”
“Give him to me or I’ll kill you!”
Justin slipped into a room as a group of wolves ran by. He slipped out and ran the opposite way. Mace wasn’t at his home so he had to be somewhere else. As he ran around a corner he scrambled to dive back the other way and hide as Star ran past. He sighed then slipped around the corner.
Turning, he quickly ran down the hall. There was a loud sound further down the hall. Sliding to a stop he turned and ran back the other way. He slipped into a storage room and looked out the crack in the door. Dark green eyes watched as Akira and Mace disappeared around a corner. He was about to slip out after them when he saw Mace’s mother slowly following them. The door closed when she glanced over and he found himself holding his breath.
When she was gone he slipped out and then took a detour. ‘Hurry. Hurry!’ When he finally found them there was a loud bang and he growled at what he saw. Mace was in trouble. His body reacted before his mind took in what he was doing.
Akira was shocked when a small body lunged at the rifle toting woman. A scream of pain came from the woman as she pulled at the orange hair. “Let go you little brat.” Justin had just latched down onto the woman’s arm. His glasses had clattered to the ground somewhere.
The small brunette shouted, “Justin!”
There was a yelp as his head was bashed against the wall. He clung to her arm as she slammed his whole body against the wall causing the wood to crack. His body slumped to the ground and she pointed the gun at him. “Stupid brat!”
Gray eyes narrowed and he rushed forward. He grabbed the woman’s long hair and yanked her back. She fell back as Akira wrapped his arm around her neck, placing her into a choke hold. Her hand flew up and tried to grab at his face. The brunette pulled her to the ground. He kicked the gun away from her when she lost her grip on it. “Sara, get Mace and Justin out of here!”
Sara stood to go over to Justin when Akira growled out in pain. The crazy woman had just stabbed him in the leg. “Fucking crazy bitch!” She dug the knife deeper and he growled out a string of curses. His arm tightened its hold on her neck. Mace looked over at Akira from where he was crouched next to Justin.
“S-stop!” Justin slowly came too and his hand reached out to grab Mace’s shirt to keep him away from the woman. He missed and his hand dropped to the ground. The small boy had just grabbed his mother’s hand to try and pull the knife out. She looked at him. “P-p-please s-stop I… I’ll g-go please s-stop!”
Sara pulled Mace away as he shouted. Then Akira grabbed and slammed her head against the wall. The woman slumped to the ground as Akira slid away from her. His hand gripped the knife and ripped it out. “Fuck!” His hand closed over the wound. The blood was seeping out. He threw the knife and it landed next to the gun. “I did not look for this.”
“Don’t worry I’ll explain it to Zev.” She helped him up and he leaned against the wall. “Is everything alright?”
“Yeah, she didn’t get me there. Just my leg.”
Mace whimpered and then hugged Akira. His voice came out in muffled sobs, “I’m s-s-sor-sorry!”
Walking over Sara picked Justin up. “Let’s get you somewhere safe before the crazy bitch wakes.”
“Come on Mace.” They started making their way down the hall and Akira tried to guess the amount of seconds it would take for Zev to get to them. His eyes widened. Whipping around he found the woman standing the gun pointed at him.
“I won’t let you take him! Die you sick bastard!”
Akira flinched as a gun shot rang throughout the hall way. His arm tightened on Mace to keep him from turning around as the woman’s body fell forward. Standing behind her was a man that looked almost like Justin. He had a gun raised and smoke whiffed and curled up from it.
Cool dark green eyes looked away as the gun lowered. “Take Justin to his room, first aid is under the sink, I’ll send Zev that way.”
Sara nodded and she led them there.
Once in the living space she brought the first aid over to Akira. “Can you do it yourself?”
“Yeah. I’ll take what I need.”
“I’ve never seen Justin react that way.”
“When those that people care about are in trouble they tend to lose themselves when it comes to protecting them.”
“I guess even Justin could do something like that. He’ll still be in trouble for biting her.”
“I don’t think he’ll be held for it.” He pulled out items from the box. “If he hadn’t done it I would probably be dead.” His hands ripped the pants at the knee. “I’m going to have to send this to Marianela to fix.”
“Who?” The female wolf looked at him from where she was standing at. A bandage roll was in her hands and unraveled.
“My sister…” The door swung open and Star ran into the room.
“Where is Mace?”
Sara smiled and answered, “With Justin. He passed out as soon as he laid down.”
The two left the room as Akira silently examined his wound. The pain was the part he hated… no matter what he always hated the pain. He bent over to get a better look and grunted. Sitting back he looked down at his stomach. Pulling his shirt up he poked the swell. Leaning back over he started to work on cleaning the wound.
A white feather floated down and landed on the floor next to his foot. He reached over to pick it up only to stop. “How long are you going to stand there?” When Zev didn’t say anything he sat up, “Okay, you not pissed is scaring me.” He felt a sharp pain along his spine. Just then two arms wrapped around him and Akira could feel the worry seeping from Zev.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Anything.”
“Here sit back.” Akira lend back into the couch. He watched as the wolf moved to crouch in front of him. “I should be mad… but I’m not. I really should be but I’m more worried about you two.” Zev pulled his leg up and pulled the bandages off. “What scared me the most was the blood on the knife. All kinds of things popped into my head but it was only your leg.”
“I don’t like it when my legs are injured. I can’t do anything.”
“I’ll carry you.” He chuckled when Akira pushed his head down with the other foot. His hand snagged the leg and he kissed Akira’s ankle. Sky blue eyes looked at him, a smile appeared on his face. The brunette was looking away and you could see a faint tint across his face. “I love you.”
Gray eyes looked at him and that smile on his face. His foot poked him in the forehead, “If you’re going to wrap it then wrap it.”
“Okay.”
His head laid back to look at the ceiling. A few seconds passed when his leg jerked away. He looked at Zev. “Oi! Zev what the hell?” The wolf’s tongue flicked out over the wound. Akira grabbed a hold of Zev’s head. “Hey what are you doing!?”
“The bleeding has almost stopped.”
“You didn’t have to do that!” He started to push his head away from his leg. “Quit licking me!”
“You never complain at other times.”
“That is different! Quit it before I knock you out!”
Zev grinned as he quickly kissed Akira. He pulled back and looked at the brunette only to kiss him again. Akira gripped at Zev’s head his fingers tangled into his hair. He smirked against that mouth and when they pulled back Akira sighed. “So how much trouble am I in?”
His face pushed against Akira’s neck and then nipped at it. “I was thinking of tying you up buuut….” There was a smirk on his face as Zev bent over to kiss Akira’s stomach, “I think you having an injured leg is enough. Besides I want to make sure you’re really okay.”
There was a cough and they found Star with her arms crossed and Sara was red in the face. “Okay you two break it up. There are kids. Sleeping kids.”
“Sorry.” The grin on Zev’s face had Star shaking her head. “Alright let’s get this wrapped up and then we can take care of that other wound.”
The door opened and they all looked over. Justin’s dad stood in the door way. The unconscious dog was in his arms. He sat Rash on the ground as Star walked over and looked at his lowered head. “How is…?”
“He’s a sleep.” She took the revolver from him and then led him over to the office chair. “Here sit down. Sara can you get something warm for him to drink.”
“Yeah.” There was soon the sound of clattering in the closed of kitchen space.
“What do we do next?”
“I’ll tell him everything when he gets here.” He didn’t move as she looked at him. Star growled and gave a curse.
“Suck it up, Nathan! AJ would want you to be strong right now.”
“Hey! Hey!”
“Akira will you sit still!” Akira waved Zev off as he hung over the couch armrest.
“Now that I have your attention, if you care that much why are you still sitting here?”
“Because he always comes back.”
“So you sit here like a good little puppy waiting for its master.” You could see the muscle in his jaw tighten.
He looked away and Akira pushed away from the armrest, “I’m ready to leave.” Standing he limped to the door. He stopped as he spoke loud enough, “I think Mace will need his father the most later.” The door opened and Zev watched Nathan. The man was sitting hunched over.
“Nathan you’re the only one who really knows him.” Those dark green eyes glanced at Zev.
“Zev!”
He leaned out the door and shouted at Akira, “I’m coming hold on!” Looking back at Nathan he grinned, “Cheer up man you saved lives today.”
“I also killed one to do that.”
“So you would let her kill Justin and Mace.”
“No.”
“Then why did you pull the trigger?”
“Zev!!”
Nathan looked at Star who was in the kitchen helping Sara. “You should go. Who knows he looks like the type to drag you away.”
Zev sighed and shook his head, “Just think about it. The real reason you pulled that trigger, what was it?” He waved then took off after Akira. The door swung shut and he looked over at the closed bedroom door.
His hands clenched at his pants, “Star!”
“Yeah.” She walked out to find Nathan standing. He was leaning over his desk a map rolled out on the top. “What is it?”
“Before he left he said he had to get something. She wanted him to get something for her. It would be a taxing job for a human but with paranormals it would be a little less hard. Still a challenge but it wouldn’t kill him.”
“But the elders think he’s dead if he hasn’t come back now.”
“He’s not dead. He won’t come back till he gets that item.” He pulled out a box and opened it. “It would take him at the most five months to find it. I’ll give him another three to try and acquire it and another five months to get back.”
“He should have been back a little over a year’s time then.”
“Unless something happened.”
“You’re going after him?”
Nathan sighed as he rubbed the back of his head. “He’s right. AJ… he could be hurt…”His shoulders slumped and Star reached up to give him a one armed hug.
“Yes I’ll keep an eye on Justin. He and you are family I don’t care what happened in the past.” A smile spread across his face and he hugged her back.
“Thanks.”
“Only helping my family. Man when you bring him home I’m going to kick his ass.”
“If I can find him.”
“You’ll find him.”
Zev brushed his hands off on his pants as he looked at Akira. Those storm gray eyes were glaring at him. “I thought you said you weren’t going to do this!”
He tipped his head as he looked away, “Hmmmmm did I?” Akira growled at him as he pulled at his tied up arms.
“Come on!” He watched as Zev sat next to him on the couch. “Zev, untie me.”
Glancing at the watch he tapped it. “Not till morning.” There was a growl from Akira, “Not going to happen.” The wolf jumped when Akira latched onto his ear. “Ow! Let go!”
He tried to push him off only it didn’t help much. When he pulled down on the ear the wolf choked and tried to push Akira away. “Untie me.”
“No. Not working… owowow… ack!” He jumped up when a tongue flicked out over the shell of his ear. “That’s not going to work.” The brunette flopped onto his side. His back was to Zev and the wolf sighed. Looking over the brunette’s shoulders he found him with his eyes closed. “Fine you have to promise to run whenever there is trouble.”
“I was till she tried to kill Justin.” Zev looked at him and those gray eyes looked away. “Okay.”
He felt himself being pulled so he was sitting up. Then he felt the rope go slack. His hands rubbed at his arms as the rope found it pace on his forehead. Akira found himself falling back against Zev and he shivered as hot breath ghosted over his ear. “Let me see your wings.”
“Why?”
“One of them is injured. We should get it wrapped.”
“I won’t be able to put them away if you wrap the wound.”
“That’s the point. Then we can stay here just the two of us.”
“Really and if I don’t…?” He caught the grin on Zev’s face and sighed, “Fine.” They had two agreements, Zev’s was that Akira stayed within eyesight of the den and didn’t do anything that would cause harm. While Akira’s was that he did whatever the hell he wanted as long as it wasn’t harming the unborn child.
They argued and argued till Akira locked himself in the tree house for three days. His shirt came off as Zev walked over with an aid box. He handed him the box as those two wings spread out from his back. Each time he saw it Zev was still amazed by the sight. From the first time they came out covered in blood up to now. “Pull it out.”
Zev blinked as he was pulled back, “What?”
“There is something in my wing… it hurts.” His hands gently pulled on the wing till it was stretched out. Fingers ran over the blood matted wing. It jerked away and Akira winced. “Why the hell didn’t he say that it would hurt more in the wings?”
“Sorry, hold still so I can pull it out.”
“I can’t when it hurts!” Zev pulled his head back against his chest. His mouth kissed his neck and then teeth nipped at his neck. A shiver ran up his spine as Zev’s other hand rubbed at his hips. “What… what are you doing?”
“You’ll see.” Hot breath ghosted over Akira’s ear and a wet tongue followed after it. “Relax.”
“Zev… this isn’t the…” His breath hitched as fingers tailed up his stomach and chest. A moan slipped out as those fingers rubbed over… the door opened as sharp pain shot through his back. “Fuck!” A blanket was tossed over Akira who was hunched over.
“Akira, don’t curl up like that.”
“I know!”
Zev looked over to see Nathan looking at him. “Don’t ask.”
“Got it. I have a favor to ask you.”
Nodding he bent down and placed something in Akira’s hand. “You can wrap it?”
“Y-yeah.”
“I’ll be right outside.”
“I’ll be fine.” ‘Evil distraction!’
His hand rested on Akira’s head, “I know. I’ll knock when I come on in.” The two wolves walked out and Zev closed the door behind him.
Akira sat up and pushed the blanket off his wings. He held up the piece of glass that was as long as his hand. His eyes watched the blood as it slowly ran down onto his fingers. He pulled his hand closer and sniffed it. Licking his fingers he found himself gagging. “Horrible.” Standing up real quick he swayed, only to fall back onto the couch. “I have got to stop that!” There was tapping on the window. Looking up he saw Hawk waving down at him.
She grinned as he pushed the window open. “Hey heads up there will be a storm tomorrow.”
“Great…” Hawk shot into the room and dropped onto his shoulder as he climbed down. “Just what I needed.”
“Well the worse of it won’t be till tomorrow. The rain will start tonight.”
“Fun.”
“It’s not so bad.” She leaned back to look at his wing. “You’re injured.”
“Did you bring something for me?”
“Yep. Got anything to drink my face is cold.”
“I’ll make it after I wrap this.” He picked up the bandage wrap as he sat down. His wing moved so he could reach it.
“I can help.” The small woman picked up the wrap and then floated over to his wing. “You sit down and relax. Wings can be a pain to wrap without help.” She held the end out to him. “I take Daisuke didn’t show you how to do this on your own.”
“No.”
“He’s an idiot.”
Akira made a sound of agreement that had her grinning. “He also didn’t warn me about the pain.”
“Ouch. I’ve seen some gruesome things when I was helping father out.” She placed a pad of gauze over the wound and then started to wrap the wing. “One guy took five arrows through the wing and he couldn’t move from the pain.”
“Damn.”
“Yeah.” She dropped the roll in his hand as she floated over to get two pins. He reached over to cut the wrap as Hawk can back over to him. Once it was fastened she tapped it. The hiss from Akira had her moving away. “S-sorry I didn’t know it was that tender.”
“Its fine, I’ve been through worse.” He looked at her. “What did you bring me?”
“Oh!” She reached into her bag and pulled something out. “Marianela wants to know what’s going on.”
Standing he made his way into the kitchen area. The cabinets opened and closed as he looked for something. “Everything is fine. I mean it don’t you tell her about this.”
“Got it!” He watched as she alighted on a pile of books on the table. Her legs where swinging as he started to warm some water. “I hope you have my favorite tea here.”
“Don’t worry Zev made sure to add it to the list for when you would stop by.”
“Your sister was pacing the last time I saw her. She worries a lot.”
“Yeah I know.” His wings shifted as he reached up to pull something down. “But it wouldn’t be her if she didn’t.”
Zev sighed as he looked at him. “Okay what is it?”
“Thanks. I’m worried ‘bout Justin he’s not like other half wolves. His tenth birthday is coming up will you keep an eye on him till I get back.”
“Yeah sure.” He caught the look on Nathan’s face when he looked off towards the mountains, “What’s wrong?”
“I’m… not sure… I thought it would go away but…” He shook his head. “Does it ever get better?”
“When I find out I’ll tell you.”
“Yeah yeah.” Nathan leaned back and looked at Zev. “A guy huh?”
“Shut up.”
“No, no, see I remember someone going on and on about how he preferred girls more than guys.”
“Shut up.”
“Never. Wait till AJ hears this.”
“How long has he been gone for?”
“Three years.”
“What has he been doing for the last three years?”
“Like I would know.” His hand rubbed at his head, “Fuck, all I know is he’s out there looking for some damn stone. Crazy woman was always demanding something. At first it was little things then it was things that only existed in myths.”
“Sounds like a pain.”
“You know how many times I’ve chased after him just to drag his sorry ass back here.”
“And you’ll keep on doing it.”
Nathan opened his mouth and then sighing laughed, “Okay I get it.”
“About time! I was really close to knocking you over the head with a book.”
“A book!? Since when have you been carrying a book?”
“I read books… sometimes…” There was a snort of laughter from Nathan, “You’re an ass.”
“And you’re still a runt.”
“I’m not a runt!”
“Let’s ask AJ and Star.”
He growled just as Hawk appeared next to him, “Hello Zev!” Both wolves jumped when she spoke up. She giggled and then sat on his shoulder. “I just wanted to tell you that there is a storm rolling in. It’ll rain tonight and the worst of it will be here tomorrow morning.”
“Ah! I haven’t been…!”
“It’s okay I was just coming to tell you. Ever since that day…”
“Thanks Hawk.”
“You’re welcome. Well I’m going to go tell Marianela the latest news.”
“You won’t tell her about today will you?”
“Nope. Bye!”
Zev watched as she floated off and then turned to Nathan. The stunned look on Nathan’s face made him shake his head, “Don’t ask.”
“I’m not going to… was she floating?!”
“I just said… never mind I’m going.”
“Hey you still okay about it?”
“Sure, I owe you one from back then.”
“Thanks.” He sighed after Zev left and then hunched over. Nathan rubbed his hands together. Looking up he stared at the afternoon sky. “Damn…”
The rain poured as the body stood huddled under a shop canopy. A hood was pulled over his head and the young man was sipping on a cup of hot chocolate. “Zero you are weird.”
“Yep.” He took another sip as Raven sat in his pocket.
“It’s not even winter so why are you drink that?”
“Sweet.”
“Do you say more than one word?”
“Maybe.”
Raven sighed as the long haired brunette took another sip. There was a grin on his face as looked out at the street. It was mostly empty except for the few shoppers and those trying to get home. “We should find a place to stay.” Those shoulders shrugged. “We can’t sleep in the rain!”
“Where?”
“Well we need to find one!” The dark haired male slipped out of his pocket and floated in front of his face. “Look I’m going to find that contact. I know she stays around here somewhere. Don’t do anything to get in trouble.” He zipped off and Zero took a sip.
His body slid to the ground as he watched the falling rain. Fingers rubbed the sides of the cup. Eyes slipped closed and he slumped over some.
Mitch rushed under the shop canopy and Jett followed after him. “Shit, why did it have to rain?”
“It’s not that bad.”
Jett squeezed the water out of his hair, “Geez Jett you all wet!”
“I know.” There was a grin on his face. “I like the rain.”
He reached over to pull at the wet hair. “You’re weird.” There was a smile on Jett’s face. When his wet body hugged Mitch he could feel the male’s back become stiff. “It’s not that bad!”
“I’m getting wet! Let gooooo!!” There was a groan and they looked at each other, “Was that you?”
“No.”
They looked to the side to see the huddled figure. That huddled figure looked up to find them and he jumped up. The male lowered his head as he shouted, “Sorry!” Grabbing the cup of cooled coco he took off running.
“What the…”
“Hell, who was that?” He looked at Mitch. “Mitch?” His eyes where narrowed and he was staring off at the person running. “Hey what’s wrong?”
“Nothing I’m just thinking too much again.”
Jett grinned, “Don’t fry your brain from thinking.”
“Haha…”
A smirk spread across his face as he kept a good hold on him. The brunette male was cursing and trying to struggle out of his hold. “Time to go home.”
“No! NO! You’re all wet and I don’t wanna get wet!” The two walked out from under the canopy. “Let me gooooo!!!”
Zero leaned up against the building panting. He looked at the empty cup and sighed. He didn’t even get to finish the drink. Slumping over he muttered something. There was a sound off to his side. A black and white cat sat there looking at him. It scratched at its ear and then meowed. He leaned over to pet its head. The cat started purring as it rubbed against his hand. “Zero!”
Raven was sitting on a woman’s shoulder as she walked over. “I see Damon found him.”
The cat meowed and jumped up on to a trash can. She picked him up as he meowed again. “Zero this is Rossa. She is going to let us stay with her.”
“Hello.”
He nodded his head.
“You can sleep on the spare bed. It was meant for this little guy but he’ll sleep anywhere prefers this form over his other one.”
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. Now follow me and I’ll tell you everything about the boy that you are looking for.”
^^
Star yawned as she walked up to Zev. “Zev.”
Zev turned to her and nodded, “Are you okay Star? You look like you’re about to fall over.”
“I can’t sleep ever since Altan had to go back to his den.”
“What happened?”
“A pack dispute.” She waved her hand. “Anyways how is Akira?”
“Sleeping. He was up all night I think he was hit with one of those food cravings. But the down side is he couldn’t figure out what he wanted. He kept saying it was sweet but didn’t look like it would be sweet. I couldn’t get it and after an hour of him trying to remember he gave up and we just sat up all night on the couch.”
“You want to go back and stay with him?”
“I’m actually going over this month’s food list.”
“Without Akira?”
“Yes. I can pick out good food.” He was pouting as she patted him on the head. There was a loud rumble and Zev stood up. “Looks like I need to go now.”
“What for?”
“Akira will be up now.”
“Okay I’ll talk to you later about when we head out to see Levana.” He didn’t answer so when she looked at him her eyes look over at what he was looking at. She screamed and Zev gave a start. He watched as Star almost tackled a wet Altan to the ground.
Shaking his head he walked off. “Well Star will be busy for the next few days.” The door opened and he sighed as he found Akira curled up in the corner. A blanket was pulled up and tucked around his shoulders. His wings were folded on his back they would move slightly every time he breathed. He crouched down next to him. It was an improvement, this time he stayed in the living room instead of hiding out in the closet.
His fingers brushed over his face. “Hey. I’m surprised that you’re asleep during a storm.” Akira reached up and grabbed Zev’s hand. “Are you awake?”
“I am now. Where did you go?”
“I was looking over the list.”
“For?”
“The times for when they go into town to get things we can’t get out here.” He sat down and Akira ended up curled up next to Zev. Fingers tangled into Zev shirt as he flinched at the sound of the loud rumble. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“I know.” Zev felt his arm being moved and it was now draped around Akira’s shoulders. “I feel safer with you here.” Gray eyes drooped as they sat there. “I’m so tired and……” a yawn cut him off, “hungry.”
“Well if you can bear being alone long enough I can make something for us to eat.” His grip tightened on Zev. “You can sit in the kitchen with me.”
“I’m fine.” He made a sound as Zev picked him up. The wolf snagged a chair as he walked by the table. Setting the chair down he placed Akira on it.
“Now you can see me and I can make something to eat.”
“But…”
“You need to eat.”
When Zev walked around Akira would have a firm but loose grip on Zev’s tail. After gathering what he needed Zev walked over to stand next to him. That was when Akira would hold onto Zev’s shirt and lean against him. He slipped into a light sleep only to jerk awake every time there was a loud rumble or when Zev would move away from him. There were a couple of times where he had slipped into a deeper sleep and he almost fell off the chair. Good thing Zev was near.
When he finally found a way to sit on the chair and be comfortable with his wings he finally fell into a deep sleep. Glancing over, Zev found Akira sitting sideways on the chair so that his head was resting against the chair’s back and his wings weren’t bothered by the chair. Zev smiled as he turned back to the food he was preparing for them to eat.
With the storm raging outside he was shocked at how sound Akira was sleeping. ‘Maybe he’s slowly getting over it’ There was a loud roaring rumbled that brought Akira out of his sleep. He hunched over and gave a very fluent curse. “Akira?”
“I’m fine.”
“Okay. I’m done here. Ready to eat?”
“Yeah.” He looked at the brunette. Reaching out he tipped Akira’s head back. “What is it?”
“Nothing. It was just a dream.”
“Alright then let’s get some food in you and then we’ll both go take a nap. Sound fun?”
Akira smiled as he stood, “Okay.” They headed to the table with the chair and two plates of food. Their meal was spent in silence. Once done Zev did the dishes while Akira went into the room to find a comfortable spot to sleep with his wings. Zev soon joined him and Akira was asleep as soon as Zev climbed into the bed. Sky blue eyes watched as Akira slept. His fingers would brush over his head and through that brunette’s hair. His hand reached into his back pocket to pull out a folded paper. Unfolding it he quickly read it. Then he sat the letter on the side table with his watch. The light was turned off and he moved closer to Akira.
The wolf’s arm was draped over Akira’s waist and he rested his chin on Akira’s head. His eyes closed as he smiled. He could feel the slight swell against his stomach. A grin crossed his face as he tightened his hold on the slim male. His body relaxed and he drifted to sleep.
Mace sat in the room holding on to the pillow. He rubbed at his eyes as he tried not to cry. But he couldn’t help it. His family was gone now and he felt alone. “Mama…” He pushed his face against the pillow to hind his face, “w-why?”
“About time I found you!”
The small boy stiffened and became very still. It was quiet so he looked up over the pillow. Justin stood there in the door way. There were bandages wrapped around his head making his hair stick out here and there. “J-justin… umm… hi.”
“Dad left. He went to find your dad. I’m going to be staying with you and Star till he gets back.”
“O-okay.”
“Altan is back.”
“I k-know.”
“And I can’t see that well so will you come over here.” Mace shook his head. He watched as Justin walked into the room. “I know I shouldn’t do this till we’re older but…” The taller boy dropped to his knees and bent over till his head was touching the ground. He had seen his dad do it before he knew the consequences. But, damn it, if it helped Mace out he didn’t care. His best friend was at his weakest and he’ll be that stone wall that protects him. “I, Justin Dray, swear my loyalty to you and only you. I will be the wall that doesn’t crumble. I’ll stand…”
Dark blue eyes went wide. The orange haired boy jerked when a pillow hit him. “S-shut up!” Justin stared at him as he held his head. Mace had moved all the way to the corner of the bed. His small hands covered his ears as he shook his head, “Don’t… p-p-please d-don’t…” Tears dripped down his face. The small boy rubbed at his face as he shook, “I… I… d-don’t w-w-wa-want to l-l-lo-lo-los…” He shook his head and then shouted. “You are my only friend!”
“You’re right I’m sorry.” He hung his head and closed his eyes. “I think that hit to the head knocked something lose.”
“I h-hope not.” Mace rubbed his nose as Justin leaned back against the bed. “I c-can’t… s-s-she can’t b-b-be-be…” The tears started to build up and he rubbed at his face. The taller boy sat on the floor listening to Mace crying.
“I’ll stay here till you’re done.”
“Star.” She looked over at Altan. “Are you okay?”
Star cleared her throat and smiled, “Ye… yeah I’m fine.” Her eyes went back to the room. “I’m just worried about Mace. Even with everything he went through he still cares about her.”
“He’s a kid. He’ll get it when he’s older.”
“I guess.” He draped an arm around her shoulders. “I still don’t see how.”
“Why don’t you round them up and we’ll head back to the room to get some food.”
She nodded as Altan smiled at her. “I’ll be right there.”
Altan kissed the side of her head, “He’ll be fine. They’ll all be fine.” He shook his head, “You’d make a good pack mother with the way you fret over everyone.” The woman twitched as he chuckled.
“Are you comparing me with my mother?”
“No. I would never do that.” The red head jumped away as she tried to swat him. “I love you, too!” He waved to her as he walked away. She took a breath and then walked into the room.
“Hey you two…”
Everything will be fine. Everything will be okay… right?
Zero looked at the picture in front of him. All of them were of the same person with different people. “I took the photos.” The small boy sat there grinning. “But I’m only helping this much.”
“Damon.”
“Hmmmm…” He turned to look at Rossa.
“Bed.”
“No.” She picked him up, “Put me down!!!!” His hair was bristling and you can see a white and black tail twitching behind him. He slipped out of his shirt. Black eyes looked at Damon’s arm. The upper shoulder had a bar code tattooed on it. “I’m older then you!”
“Until you’re taller than me I don’t want to hear it!” She opened a door and tossed him on the bed. “Go to bed you have school in the morning.”
“I don’t need it!!”
The door closed as a pillow thumped against it.
“Damn. I swear I can’t wait till he gets put back to normal.”
Raven looked up from trying to break a chip up. “What do you mean?”
“The person we’re stuck working with, your boss man or whatever you call him, took his real body. That one isn’t his.” Rossa sat down and sighed. “If he helps get Akira he can get his real body back.” She looked at the door. “Somewhere a family lost their child because of the bastard. A guy turns up at my door and drops him in my lap.”
“Akira?”
“That’s his name the one you’re after.”
Zero picked up a picture of only Akira and a dark haired brunette. He pointed at the dark haired brunette, “Him?”
“I don’t know about him. Damon can find out tomorrow after school.”
“I’m not going!!!”
Rossa sighed as she face palmed and shook her head. “He is trying to get me in trouble. His body is growing faster than a normal body. A year ago he looked like a three year old and now he can pass as a six year old.”
Raven jumped when Zero picked up the chip and started to break it up. “Thanks.” He turned to Rossa, “I don’t remember him in the building.”
“He had blond hair and blue eyes. Now the body is slowly turning into what his spirit looks like.”
“I see he’s a spirit daemon then.” His hand picked up one of the broken chips and took a bite. “What I don’t get is why him?”
“I would like to know that also. Damon only remembers what and who he is he doesn’t remember much of his past.”
“Must be from being ripped from his real body.”
The brunette stared at the picture. He knew these faces but from where? His hand pulled another picture towards him. Some of them didn’t have the one he was after in it. “Where…?”
“Huh?” Both looked at him.
“Missing.”
“I don’t know about a few months ago he just vanished along with this guy here.” She pointed at a picture with Akira and another person. “He’s seen everywhere with Akira. So if you try to take Akira you will be facing him. I don’t know much about his other family but I do know he’s from a long line of strong werewolves. He will be a hassle.”
“Okay.”
“So we need to find a way to get him away from the wolf and then go from there.” He sighed as he finished the rest of the chips. “What about that other guy they want us to find?”
Zero shrugged and yawned. He was tired, time to sleep. “Sleepy.”
“Okay I guess I should pull out the couch bed.” Rossa stood and left the table to go and set the bed up.
“Zero, don’t fall asleep yet.”
His head nodded and he yawned again. “Sleepy…”
“Yeah I know but once you fall asleep you won’t wake.”
“Bed.” His head rested on the table. “Night.”
“Zero I’ll splash you with water if you don’t lift your head.”
His head shook and tired black eyes stared at him. “Tired!!”
“I mean it!” Raven twitched when Zero stuck his tongue out at him. “Zero!”
“Beds made!”
“Yay!” The brunette was up and then flopping onto the bed. A grin was on his face as he curled up around a pillow. The small person sighed as he looked up at the ceiling. Rossa looked at the sleeping male.
“I take it he does that all the time.”
“Yes.” Raven walked to the edge of the table and then floated off the table. He dropped down onto the pull out bed. “Night.”
“Night.” She clicked the lights off as she walked to the room door. The door opened and she walked in. The wolf found Damon curled up asleep on the pillow. Her hands picked him up and moved him to the side as she climbed onto the bed. Reaching over her hand found the switch on the lamp. Her eyes flicked over to the window and then the light went out. The only light that filled the room were the quick flashes of lightning as the storm raged outside the window.
The rifle swung and Akira smacked it away. She swung again only he caught it. Just then her foot came up and slammed into his head. He stumbled, dazed up against the wall. Turning his head jerked it to the side as the rifle butt slammed into the wall next to him. “Holy…!” There was a snarl as Rash barreled into the woman knocking her off balance.
As she fell she smashed the rifle against the wolf’s head. Mace cried out as the wolf fell to the ground not moving. Akira grabbed a hold of Mace before he could run over to Rash. “Mace, stay behind me.” She flipped the rifle around as Mace cried out. Moving forward Akira knocked the gun up as she pulled the trigger. The loud sound echoed through the hall. The woman turned on Akira.
“Give me Mace!”
“Go to hell.” The rifle pointed at Akira.
Sara swallowed, “I don’t think you want to piss her off.”
“What and give her Mace so she could do as she pleases. Like hell.”
“Give him to me or I’ll kill you!”
Justin slipped into a room as a group of wolves ran by. He slipped out and ran the opposite way. Mace wasn’t at his home so he had to be somewhere else. As he ran around a corner he scrambled to dive back the other way and hide as Star ran past. He sighed then slipped around the corner.
Turning, he quickly ran down the hall. There was a loud sound further down the hall. Sliding to a stop he turned and ran back the other way. He slipped into a storage room and looked out the crack in the door. Dark green eyes watched as Akira and Mace disappeared around a corner. He was about to slip out after them when he saw Mace’s mother slowly following them. The door closed when she glanced over and he found himself holding his breath.
When she was gone he slipped out and then took a detour. ‘Hurry. Hurry!’ When he finally found them there was a loud bang and he growled at what he saw. Mace was in trouble. His body reacted before his mind took in what he was doing.
Akira was shocked when a small body lunged at the rifle toting woman. A scream of pain came from the woman as she pulled at the orange hair. “Let go you little brat.” Justin had just latched down onto the woman’s arm. His glasses had clattered to the ground somewhere.
The small brunette shouted, “Justin!”
There was a yelp as his head was bashed against the wall. He clung to her arm as she slammed his whole body against the wall causing the wood to crack. His body slumped to the ground and she pointed the gun at him. “Stupid brat!”
Gray eyes narrowed and he rushed forward. He grabbed the woman’s long hair and yanked her back. She fell back as Akira wrapped his arm around her neck, placing her into a choke hold. Her hand flew up and tried to grab at his face. The brunette pulled her to the ground. He kicked the gun away from her when she lost her grip on it. “Sara, get Mace and Justin out of here!”
Sara stood to go over to Justin when Akira growled out in pain. The crazy woman had just stabbed him in the leg. “Fucking crazy bitch!” She dug the knife deeper and he growled out a string of curses. His arm tightened its hold on her neck. Mace looked over at Akira from where he was crouched next to Justin.
“S-stop!” Justin slowly came too and his hand reached out to grab Mace’s shirt to keep him away from the woman. He missed and his hand dropped to the ground. The small boy had just grabbed his mother’s hand to try and pull the knife out. She looked at him. “P-p-please s-stop I… I’ll g-go please s-stop!”
Sara pulled Mace away as he shouted. Then Akira grabbed and slammed her head against the wall. The woman slumped to the ground as Akira slid away from her. His hand gripped the knife and ripped it out. “Fuck!” His hand closed over the wound. The blood was seeping out. He threw the knife and it landed next to the gun. “I did not look for this.”
“Don’t worry I’ll explain it to Zev.” She helped him up and he leaned against the wall. “Is everything alright?”
“Yeah, she didn’t get me there. Just my leg.”
Mace whimpered and then hugged Akira. His voice came out in muffled sobs, “I’m s-s-sor-sorry!”
Walking over Sara picked Justin up. “Let’s get you somewhere safe before the crazy bitch wakes.”
“Come on Mace.” They started making their way down the hall and Akira tried to guess the amount of seconds it would take for Zev to get to them. His eyes widened. Whipping around he found the woman standing the gun pointed at him.
“I won’t let you take him! Die you sick bastard!”
Akira flinched as a gun shot rang throughout the hall way. His arm tightened on Mace to keep him from turning around as the woman’s body fell forward. Standing behind her was a man that looked almost like Justin. He had a gun raised and smoke whiffed and curled up from it.
Cool dark green eyes looked away as the gun lowered. “Take Justin to his room, first aid is under the sink, I’ll send Zev that way.”
Sara nodded and she led them there.
Once in the living space she brought the first aid over to Akira. “Can you do it yourself?”
“Yeah. I’ll take what I need.”
“I’ve never seen Justin react that way.”
“When those that people care about are in trouble they tend to lose themselves when it comes to protecting them.”
“I guess even Justin could do something like that. He’ll still be in trouble for biting her.”
“I don’t think he’ll be held for it.” He pulled out items from the box. “If he hadn’t done it I would probably be dead.” His hands ripped the pants at the knee. “I’m going to have to send this to Marianela to fix.”
“Who?” The female wolf looked at him from where she was standing at. A bandage roll was in her hands and unraveled.
“My sister…” The door swung open and Star ran into the room.
“Where is Mace?”
Sara smiled and answered, “With Justin. He passed out as soon as he laid down.”
The two left the room as Akira silently examined his wound. The pain was the part he hated… no matter what he always hated the pain. He bent over to get a better look and grunted. Sitting back he looked down at his stomach. Pulling his shirt up he poked the swell. Leaning back over he started to work on cleaning the wound.
A white feather floated down and landed on the floor next to his foot. He reached over to pick it up only to stop. “How long are you going to stand there?” When Zev didn’t say anything he sat up, “Okay, you not pissed is scaring me.” He felt a sharp pain along his spine. Just then two arms wrapped around him and Akira could feel the worry seeping from Zev.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Anything.”
“Here sit back.” Akira lend back into the couch. He watched as the wolf moved to crouch in front of him. “I should be mad… but I’m not. I really should be but I’m more worried about you two.” Zev pulled his leg up and pulled the bandages off. “What scared me the most was the blood on the knife. All kinds of things popped into my head but it was only your leg.”
“I don’t like it when my legs are injured. I can’t do anything.”
“I’ll carry you.” He chuckled when Akira pushed his head down with the other foot. His hand snagged the leg and he kissed Akira’s ankle. Sky blue eyes looked at him, a smile appeared on his face. The brunette was looking away and you could see a faint tint across his face. “I love you.”
Gray eyes looked at him and that smile on his face. His foot poked him in the forehead, “If you’re going to wrap it then wrap it.”
“Okay.”
His head laid back to look at the ceiling. A few seconds passed when his leg jerked away. He looked at Zev. “Oi! Zev what the hell?” The wolf’s tongue flicked out over the wound. Akira grabbed a hold of Zev’s head. “Hey what are you doing!?”
“The bleeding has almost stopped.”
“You didn’t have to do that!” He started to push his head away from his leg. “Quit licking me!”
“You never complain at other times.”
“That is different! Quit it before I knock you out!”
Zev grinned as he quickly kissed Akira. He pulled back and looked at the brunette only to kiss him again. Akira gripped at Zev’s head his fingers tangled into his hair. He smirked against that mouth and when they pulled back Akira sighed. “So how much trouble am I in?”
His face pushed against Akira’s neck and then nipped at it. “I was thinking of tying you up buuut….” There was a smirk on his face as Zev bent over to kiss Akira’s stomach, “I think you having an injured leg is enough. Besides I want to make sure you’re really okay.”
There was a cough and they found Star with her arms crossed and Sara was red in the face. “Okay you two break it up. There are kids. Sleeping kids.”
“Sorry.” The grin on Zev’s face had Star shaking her head. “Alright let’s get this wrapped up and then we can take care of that other wound.”
The door opened and they all looked over. Justin’s dad stood in the door way. The unconscious dog was in his arms. He sat Rash on the ground as Star walked over and looked at his lowered head. “How is…?”
“He’s a sleep.” She took the revolver from him and then led him over to the office chair. “Here sit down. Sara can you get something warm for him to drink.”
“Yeah.” There was soon the sound of clattering in the closed of kitchen space.
“What do we do next?”
“I’ll tell him everything when he gets here.” He didn’t move as she looked at him. Star growled and gave a curse.
“Suck it up, Nathan! AJ would want you to be strong right now.”
“Hey! Hey!”
“Akira will you sit still!” Akira waved Zev off as he hung over the couch armrest.
“Now that I have your attention, if you care that much why are you still sitting here?”
“Because he always comes back.”
“So you sit here like a good little puppy waiting for its master.” You could see the muscle in his jaw tighten.
He looked away and Akira pushed away from the armrest, “I’m ready to leave.” Standing he limped to the door. He stopped as he spoke loud enough, “I think Mace will need his father the most later.” The door opened and Zev watched Nathan. The man was sitting hunched over.
“Nathan you’re the only one who really knows him.” Those dark green eyes glanced at Zev.
“Zev!”
He leaned out the door and shouted at Akira, “I’m coming hold on!” Looking back at Nathan he grinned, “Cheer up man you saved lives today.”
“I also killed one to do that.”
“So you would let her kill Justin and Mace.”
“No.”
“Then why did you pull the trigger?”
“Zev!!”
Nathan looked at Star who was in the kitchen helping Sara. “You should go. Who knows he looks like the type to drag you away.”
Zev sighed and shook his head, “Just think about it. The real reason you pulled that trigger, what was it?” He waved then took off after Akira. The door swung shut and he looked over at the closed bedroom door.
His hands clenched at his pants, “Star!”
“Yeah.” She walked out to find Nathan standing. He was leaning over his desk a map rolled out on the top. “What is it?”
“Before he left he said he had to get something. She wanted him to get something for her. It would be a taxing job for a human but with paranormals it would be a little less hard. Still a challenge but it wouldn’t kill him.”
“But the elders think he’s dead if he hasn’t come back now.”
“He’s not dead. He won’t come back till he gets that item.” He pulled out a box and opened it. “It would take him at the most five months to find it. I’ll give him another three to try and acquire it and another five months to get back.”
“He should have been back a little over a year’s time then.”
“Unless something happened.”
“You’re going after him?”
Nathan sighed as he rubbed the back of his head. “He’s right. AJ… he could be hurt…”His shoulders slumped and Star reached up to give him a one armed hug.
“Yes I’ll keep an eye on Justin. He and you are family I don’t care what happened in the past.” A smile spread across his face and he hugged her back.
“Thanks.”
“Only helping my family. Man when you bring him home I’m going to kick his ass.”
“If I can find him.”
“You’ll find him.”
Zev brushed his hands off on his pants as he looked at Akira. Those storm gray eyes were glaring at him. “I thought you said you weren’t going to do this!”
He tipped his head as he looked away, “Hmmmmm did I?” Akira growled at him as he pulled at his tied up arms.
“Come on!” He watched as Zev sat next to him on the couch. “Zev, untie me.”
Glancing at the watch he tapped it. “Not till morning.” There was a growl from Akira, “Not going to happen.” The wolf jumped when Akira latched onto his ear. “Ow! Let go!”
He tried to push him off only it didn’t help much. When he pulled down on the ear the wolf choked and tried to push Akira away. “Untie me.”
“No. Not working… owowow… ack!” He jumped up when a tongue flicked out over the shell of his ear. “That’s not going to work.” The brunette flopped onto his side. His back was to Zev and the wolf sighed. Looking over the brunette’s shoulders he found him with his eyes closed. “Fine you have to promise to run whenever there is trouble.”
“I was till she tried to kill Justin.” Zev looked at him and those gray eyes looked away. “Okay.”
He felt himself being pulled so he was sitting up. Then he felt the rope go slack. His hands rubbed at his arms as the rope found it pace on his forehead. Akira found himself falling back against Zev and he shivered as hot breath ghosted over his ear. “Let me see your wings.”
“Why?”
“One of them is injured. We should get it wrapped.”
“I won’t be able to put them away if you wrap the wound.”
“That’s the point. Then we can stay here just the two of us.”
“Really and if I don’t…?” He caught the grin on Zev’s face and sighed, “Fine.” They had two agreements, Zev’s was that Akira stayed within eyesight of the den and didn’t do anything that would cause harm. While Akira’s was that he did whatever the hell he wanted as long as it wasn’t harming the unborn child.
They argued and argued till Akira locked himself in the tree house for three days. His shirt came off as Zev walked over with an aid box. He handed him the box as those two wings spread out from his back. Each time he saw it Zev was still amazed by the sight. From the first time they came out covered in blood up to now. “Pull it out.”
Zev blinked as he was pulled back, “What?”
“There is something in my wing… it hurts.” His hands gently pulled on the wing till it was stretched out. Fingers ran over the blood matted wing. It jerked away and Akira winced. “Why the hell didn’t he say that it would hurt more in the wings?”
“Sorry, hold still so I can pull it out.”
“I can’t when it hurts!” Zev pulled his head back against his chest. His mouth kissed his neck and then teeth nipped at his neck. A shiver ran up his spine as Zev’s other hand rubbed at his hips. “What… what are you doing?”
“You’ll see.” Hot breath ghosted over Akira’s ear and a wet tongue followed after it. “Relax.”
“Zev… this isn’t the…” His breath hitched as fingers tailed up his stomach and chest. A moan slipped out as those fingers rubbed over… the door opened as sharp pain shot through his back. “Fuck!” A blanket was tossed over Akira who was hunched over.
“Akira, don’t curl up like that.”
“I know!”
Zev looked over to see Nathan looking at him. “Don’t ask.”
“Got it. I have a favor to ask you.”
Nodding he bent down and placed something in Akira’s hand. “You can wrap it?”
“Y-yeah.”
“I’ll be right outside.”
“I’ll be fine.” ‘Evil distraction!’
His hand rested on Akira’s head, “I know. I’ll knock when I come on in.” The two wolves walked out and Zev closed the door behind him.
Akira sat up and pushed the blanket off his wings. He held up the piece of glass that was as long as his hand. His eyes watched the blood as it slowly ran down onto his fingers. He pulled his hand closer and sniffed it. Licking his fingers he found himself gagging. “Horrible.” Standing up real quick he swayed, only to fall back onto the couch. “I have got to stop that!” There was tapping on the window. Looking up he saw Hawk waving down at him.
She grinned as he pushed the window open. “Hey heads up there will be a storm tomorrow.”
“Great…” Hawk shot into the room and dropped onto his shoulder as he climbed down. “Just what I needed.”
“Well the worse of it won’t be till tomorrow. The rain will start tonight.”
“Fun.”
“It’s not so bad.” She leaned back to look at his wing. “You’re injured.”
“Did you bring something for me?”
“Yep. Got anything to drink my face is cold.”
“I’ll make it after I wrap this.” He picked up the bandage wrap as he sat down. His wing moved so he could reach it.
“I can help.” The small woman picked up the wrap and then floated over to his wing. “You sit down and relax. Wings can be a pain to wrap without help.” She held the end out to him. “I take Daisuke didn’t show you how to do this on your own.”
“No.”
“He’s an idiot.”
Akira made a sound of agreement that had her grinning. “He also didn’t warn me about the pain.”
“Ouch. I’ve seen some gruesome things when I was helping father out.” She placed a pad of gauze over the wound and then started to wrap the wing. “One guy took five arrows through the wing and he couldn’t move from the pain.”
“Damn.”
“Yeah.” She dropped the roll in his hand as she floated over to get two pins. He reached over to cut the wrap as Hawk can back over to him. Once it was fastened she tapped it. The hiss from Akira had her moving away. “S-sorry I didn’t know it was that tender.”
“Its fine, I’ve been through worse.” He looked at her. “What did you bring me?”
“Oh!” She reached into her bag and pulled something out. “Marianela wants to know what’s going on.”
Standing he made his way into the kitchen area. The cabinets opened and closed as he looked for something. “Everything is fine. I mean it don’t you tell her about this.”
“Got it!” He watched as she alighted on a pile of books on the table. Her legs where swinging as he started to warm some water. “I hope you have my favorite tea here.”
“Don’t worry Zev made sure to add it to the list for when you would stop by.”
“Your sister was pacing the last time I saw her. She worries a lot.”
“Yeah I know.” His wings shifted as he reached up to pull something down. “But it wouldn’t be her if she didn’t.”
Zev sighed as he looked at him. “Okay what is it?”
“Thanks. I’m worried ‘bout Justin he’s not like other half wolves. His tenth birthday is coming up will you keep an eye on him till I get back.”
“Yeah sure.” He caught the look on Nathan’s face when he looked off towards the mountains, “What’s wrong?”
“I’m… not sure… I thought it would go away but…” He shook his head. “Does it ever get better?”
“When I find out I’ll tell you.”
“Yeah yeah.” Nathan leaned back and looked at Zev. “A guy huh?”
“Shut up.”
“No, no, see I remember someone going on and on about how he preferred girls more than guys.”
“Shut up.”
“Never. Wait till AJ hears this.”
“How long has he been gone for?”
“Three years.”
“What has he been doing for the last three years?”
“Like I would know.” His hand rubbed at his head, “Fuck, all I know is he’s out there looking for some damn stone. Crazy woman was always demanding something. At first it was little things then it was things that only existed in myths.”
“Sounds like a pain.”
“You know how many times I’ve chased after him just to drag his sorry ass back here.”
“And you’ll keep on doing it.”
Nathan opened his mouth and then sighing laughed, “Okay I get it.”
“About time! I was really close to knocking you over the head with a book.”
“A book!? Since when have you been carrying a book?”
“I read books… sometimes…” There was a snort of laughter from Nathan, “You’re an ass.”
“And you’re still a runt.”
“I’m not a runt!”
“Let’s ask AJ and Star.”
He growled just as Hawk appeared next to him, “Hello Zev!” Both wolves jumped when she spoke up. She giggled and then sat on his shoulder. “I just wanted to tell you that there is a storm rolling in. It’ll rain tonight and the worst of it will be here tomorrow morning.”
“Ah! I haven’t been…!”
“It’s okay I was just coming to tell you. Ever since that day…”
“Thanks Hawk.”
“You’re welcome. Well I’m going to go tell Marianela the latest news.”
“You won’t tell her about today will you?”
“Nope. Bye!”
Zev watched as she floated off and then turned to Nathan. The stunned look on Nathan’s face made him shake his head, “Don’t ask.”
“I’m not going to… was she floating?!”
“I just said… never mind I’m going.”
“Hey you still okay about it?”
“Sure, I owe you one from back then.”
“Thanks.” He sighed after Zev left and then hunched over. Nathan rubbed his hands together. Looking up he stared at the afternoon sky. “Damn…”
The rain poured as the body stood huddled under a shop canopy. A hood was pulled over his head and the young man was sipping on a cup of hot chocolate. “Zero you are weird.”
“Yep.” He took another sip as Raven sat in his pocket.
“It’s not even winter so why are you drink that?”
“Sweet.”
“Do you say more than one word?”
“Maybe.”
Raven sighed as the long haired brunette took another sip. There was a grin on his face as looked out at the street. It was mostly empty except for the few shoppers and those trying to get home. “We should find a place to stay.” Those shoulders shrugged. “We can’t sleep in the rain!”
“Where?”
“Well we need to find one!” The dark haired male slipped out of his pocket and floated in front of his face. “Look I’m going to find that contact. I know she stays around here somewhere. Don’t do anything to get in trouble.” He zipped off and Zero took a sip.
His body slid to the ground as he watched the falling rain. Fingers rubbed the sides of the cup. Eyes slipped closed and he slumped over some.
Mitch rushed under the shop canopy and Jett followed after him. “Shit, why did it have to rain?”
“It’s not that bad.”
Jett squeezed the water out of his hair, “Geez Jett you all wet!”
“I know.” There was a grin on his face. “I like the rain.”
He reached over to pull at the wet hair. “You’re weird.” There was a smile on Jett’s face. When his wet body hugged Mitch he could feel the male’s back become stiff. “It’s not that bad!”
“I’m getting wet! Let gooooo!!” There was a groan and they looked at each other, “Was that you?”
“No.”
They looked to the side to see the huddled figure. That huddled figure looked up to find them and he jumped up. The male lowered his head as he shouted, “Sorry!” Grabbing the cup of cooled coco he took off running.
“What the…”
“Hell, who was that?” He looked at Mitch. “Mitch?” His eyes where narrowed and he was staring off at the person running. “Hey what’s wrong?”
“Nothing I’m just thinking too much again.”
Jett grinned, “Don’t fry your brain from thinking.”
“Haha…”
A smirk spread across his face as he kept a good hold on him. The brunette male was cursing and trying to struggle out of his hold. “Time to go home.”
“No! NO! You’re all wet and I don’t wanna get wet!” The two walked out from under the canopy. “Let me gooooo!!!”
Zero leaned up against the building panting. He looked at the empty cup and sighed. He didn’t even get to finish the drink. Slumping over he muttered something. There was a sound off to his side. A black and white cat sat there looking at him. It scratched at its ear and then meowed. He leaned over to pet its head. The cat started purring as it rubbed against his hand. “Zero!”
Raven was sitting on a woman’s shoulder as she walked over. “I see Damon found him.”
The cat meowed and jumped up on to a trash can. She picked him up as he meowed again. “Zero this is Rossa. She is going to let us stay with her.”
“Hello.”
He nodded his head.
“You can sleep on the spare bed. It was meant for this little guy but he’ll sleep anywhere prefers this form over his other one.”
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome. Now follow me and I’ll tell you everything about the boy that you are looking for.”
^^
Star yawned as she walked up to Zev. “Zev.”
Zev turned to her and nodded, “Are you okay Star? You look like you’re about to fall over.”
“I can’t sleep ever since Altan had to go back to his den.”
“What happened?”
“A pack dispute.” She waved her hand. “Anyways how is Akira?”
“Sleeping. He was up all night I think he was hit with one of those food cravings. But the down side is he couldn’t figure out what he wanted. He kept saying it was sweet but didn’t look like it would be sweet. I couldn’t get it and after an hour of him trying to remember he gave up and we just sat up all night on the couch.”
“You want to go back and stay with him?”
“I’m actually going over this month’s food list.”
“Without Akira?”
“Yes. I can pick out good food.” He was pouting as she patted him on the head. There was a loud rumble and Zev stood up. “Looks like I need to go now.”
“What for?”
“Akira will be up now.”
“Okay I’ll talk to you later about when we head out to see Levana.” He didn’t answer so when she looked at him her eyes look over at what he was looking at. She screamed and Zev gave a start. He watched as Star almost tackled a wet Altan to the ground.
Shaking his head he walked off. “Well Star will be busy for the next few days.” The door opened and he sighed as he found Akira curled up in the corner. A blanket was pulled up and tucked around his shoulders. His wings were folded on his back they would move slightly every time he breathed. He crouched down next to him. It was an improvement, this time he stayed in the living room instead of hiding out in the closet.
His fingers brushed over his face. “Hey. I’m surprised that you’re asleep during a storm.” Akira reached up and grabbed Zev’s hand. “Are you awake?”
“I am now. Where did you go?”
“I was looking over the list.”
“For?”
“The times for when they go into town to get things we can’t get out here.” He sat down and Akira ended up curled up next to Zev. Fingers tangled into Zev shirt as he flinched at the sound of the loud rumble. “I’m not going anywhere.”
“I know.” Zev felt his arm being moved and it was now draped around Akira’s shoulders. “I feel safer with you here.” Gray eyes drooped as they sat there. “I’m so tired and……” a yawn cut him off, “hungry.”
“Well if you can bear being alone long enough I can make something for us to eat.” His grip tightened on Zev. “You can sit in the kitchen with me.”
“I’m fine.” He made a sound as Zev picked him up. The wolf snagged a chair as he walked by the table. Setting the chair down he placed Akira on it.
“Now you can see me and I can make something to eat.”
“But…”
“You need to eat.”
When Zev walked around Akira would have a firm but loose grip on Zev’s tail. After gathering what he needed Zev walked over to stand next to him. That was when Akira would hold onto Zev’s shirt and lean against him. He slipped into a light sleep only to jerk awake every time there was a loud rumble or when Zev would move away from him. There were a couple of times where he had slipped into a deeper sleep and he almost fell off the chair. Good thing Zev was near.
When he finally found a way to sit on the chair and be comfortable with his wings he finally fell into a deep sleep. Glancing over, Zev found Akira sitting sideways on the chair so that his head was resting against the chair’s back and his wings weren’t bothered by the chair. Zev smiled as he turned back to the food he was preparing for them to eat.
With the storm raging outside he was shocked at how sound Akira was sleeping. ‘Maybe he’s slowly getting over it’ There was a loud roaring rumbled that brought Akira out of his sleep. He hunched over and gave a very fluent curse. “Akira?”
“I’m fine.”
“Okay. I’m done here. Ready to eat?”
“Yeah.” He looked at the brunette. Reaching out he tipped Akira’s head back. “What is it?”
“Nothing. It was just a dream.”
“Alright then let’s get some food in you and then we’ll both go take a nap. Sound fun?”
Akira smiled as he stood, “Okay.” They headed to the table with the chair and two plates of food. Their meal was spent in silence. Once done Zev did the dishes while Akira went into the room to find a comfortable spot to sleep with his wings. Zev soon joined him and Akira was asleep as soon as Zev climbed into the bed. Sky blue eyes watched as Akira slept. His fingers would brush over his head and through that brunette’s hair. His hand reached into his back pocket to pull out a folded paper. Unfolding it he quickly read it. Then he sat the letter on the side table with his watch. The light was turned off and he moved closer to Akira.
The wolf’s arm was draped over Akira’s waist and he rested his chin on Akira’s head. His eyes closed as he smiled. He could feel the slight swell against his stomach. A grin crossed his face as he tightened his hold on the slim male. His body relaxed and he drifted to sleep.
Mace sat in the room holding on to the pillow. He rubbed at his eyes as he tried not to cry. But he couldn’t help it. His family was gone now and he felt alone. “Mama…” He pushed his face against the pillow to hind his face, “w-why?”
“About time I found you!”
The small boy stiffened and became very still. It was quiet so he looked up over the pillow. Justin stood there in the door way. There were bandages wrapped around his head making his hair stick out here and there. “J-justin… umm… hi.”
“Dad left. He went to find your dad. I’m going to be staying with you and Star till he gets back.”
“O-okay.”
“Altan is back.”
“I k-know.”
“And I can’t see that well so will you come over here.” Mace shook his head. He watched as Justin walked into the room. “I know I shouldn’t do this till we’re older but…” The taller boy dropped to his knees and bent over till his head was touching the ground. He had seen his dad do it before he knew the consequences. But, damn it, if it helped Mace out he didn’t care. His best friend was at his weakest and he’ll be that stone wall that protects him. “I, Justin Dray, swear my loyalty to you and only you. I will be the wall that doesn’t crumble. I’ll stand…”
Dark blue eyes went wide. The orange haired boy jerked when a pillow hit him. “S-shut up!” Justin stared at him as he held his head. Mace had moved all the way to the corner of the bed. His small hands covered his ears as he shook his head, “Don’t… p-p-please d-don’t…” Tears dripped down his face. The small boy rubbed at his face as he shook, “I… I… d-don’t w-w-wa-want to l-l-lo-lo-los…” He shook his head and then shouted. “You are my only friend!”
“You’re right I’m sorry.” He hung his head and closed his eyes. “I think that hit to the head knocked something lose.”
“I h-hope not.” Mace rubbed his nose as Justin leaned back against the bed. “I c-can’t… s-s-she can’t b-b-be-be…” The tears started to build up and he rubbed at his face. The taller boy sat on the floor listening to Mace crying.
“I’ll stay here till you’re done.”
“Star.” She looked over at Altan. “Are you okay?”
Star cleared her throat and smiled, “Ye… yeah I’m fine.” Her eyes went back to the room. “I’m just worried about Mace. Even with everything he went through he still cares about her.”
“He’s a kid. He’ll get it when he’s older.”
“I guess.” He draped an arm around her shoulders. “I still don’t see how.”
“Why don’t you round them up and we’ll head back to the room to get some food.”
She nodded as Altan smiled at her. “I’ll be right there.”
Altan kissed the side of her head, “He’ll be fine. They’ll all be fine.” He shook his head, “You’d make a good pack mother with the way you fret over everyone.” The woman twitched as he chuckled.
“Are you comparing me with my mother?”
“No. I would never do that.” The red head jumped away as she tried to swat him. “I love you, too!” He waved to her as he walked away. She took a breath and then walked into the room.
“Hey you two…”
Everything will be fine. Everything will be okay… right?
Zero looked at the picture in front of him. All of them were of the same person with different people. “I took the photos.” The small boy sat there grinning. “But I’m only helping this much.”
“Damon.”
“Hmmmm…” He turned to look at Rossa.
“Bed.”
“No.” She picked him up, “Put me down!!!!” His hair was bristling and you can see a white and black tail twitching behind him. He slipped out of his shirt. Black eyes looked at Damon’s arm. The upper shoulder had a bar code tattooed on it. “I’m older then you!”
“Until you’re taller than me I don’t want to hear it!” She opened a door and tossed him on the bed. “Go to bed you have school in the morning.”
“I don’t need it!!”
The door closed as a pillow thumped against it.
“Damn. I swear I can’t wait till he gets put back to normal.”
Raven looked up from trying to break a chip up. “What do you mean?”
“The person we’re stuck working with, your boss man or whatever you call him, took his real body. That one isn’t his.” Rossa sat down and sighed. “If he helps get Akira he can get his real body back.” She looked at the door. “Somewhere a family lost their child because of the bastard. A guy turns up at my door and drops him in my lap.”
“Akira?”
“That’s his name the one you’re after.”
Zero picked up a picture of only Akira and a dark haired brunette. He pointed at the dark haired brunette, “Him?”
“I don’t know about him. Damon can find out tomorrow after school.”
“I’m not going!!!”
Rossa sighed as she face palmed and shook her head. “He is trying to get me in trouble. His body is growing faster than a normal body. A year ago he looked like a three year old and now he can pass as a six year old.”
Raven jumped when Zero picked up the chip and started to break it up. “Thanks.” He turned to Rossa, “I don’t remember him in the building.”
“He had blond hair and blue eyes. Now the body is slowly turning into what his spirit looks like.”
“I see he’s a spirit daemon then.” His hand picked up one of the broken chips and took a bite. “What I don’t get is why him?”
“I would like to know that also. Damon only remembers what and who he is he doesn’t remember much of his past.”
“Must be from being ripped from his real body.”
The brunette stared at the picture. He knew these faces but from where? His hand pulled another picture towards him. Some of them didn’t have the one he was after in it. “Where…?”
“Huh?” Both looked at him.
“Missing.”
“I don’t know about a few months ago he just vanished along with this guy here.” She pointed at a picture with Akira and another person. “He’s seen everywhere with Akira. So if you try to take Akira you will be facing him. I don’t know much about his other family but I do know he’s from a long line of strong werewolves. He will be a hassle.”
“Okay.”
“So we need to find a way to get him away from the wolf and then go from there.” He sighed as he finished the rest of the chips. “What about that other guy they want us to find?”
Zero shrugged and yawned. He was tired, time to sleep. “Sleepy.”
“Okay I guess I should pull out the couch bed.” Rossa stood and left the table to go and set the bed up.
“Zero, don’t fall asleep yet.”
His head nodded and he yawned again. “Sleepy…”
“Yeah I know but once you fall asleep you won’t wake.”
“Bed.” His head rested on the table. “Night.”
“Zero I’ll splash you with water if you don’t lift your head.”
His head shook and tired black eyes stared at him. “Tired!!”
“I mean it!” Raven twitched when Zero stuck his tongue out at him. “Zero!”
“Beds made!”
“Yay!” The brunette was up and then flopping onto the bed. A grin was on his face as he curled up around a pillow. The small person sighed as he looked up at the ceiling. Rossa looked at the sleeping male.
“I take it he does that all the time.”
“Yes.” Raven walked to the edge of the table and then floated off the table. He dropped down onto the pull out bed. “Night.”
“Night.” She clicked the lights off as she walked to the room door. The door opened and she walked in. The wolf found Damon curled up asleep on the pillow. Her hands picked him up and moved him to the side as she climbed onto the bed. Reaching over her hand found the switch on the lamp. Her eyes flicked over to the window and then the light went out. The only light that filled the room were the quick flashes of lightning as the storm raged outside the window.
Next one I’ll have up at the end of the week. Or if I can find time I’ll post it sooner. But anyways I think the winner has been picked for the next story. I’ll leave it open for a little longer to see what happens… That extra vote doesn’t count on Acid Rain I clicked that to see what one was winning. Reviews are welcomed!
