A/N: Everything is going to be slowing down. Updates will be slow and I’ll try to post once a week. Sorry this is late. Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Akira sat up; his hair was messed up and he rubbed his head messing it up more. He just woke up for no reason. Glancing over he saw Zev was still asleep his arm was wrapped around a pillow, his face half buried in the pillow. The other arm was draped over Akira’s waist but slid down when Akira sat up. When that arm twitched and then moved he watched as Zev slowly woke up. “Ngh… ‘Kira…”
He smiled and leaned over to pull at the pillow. The wolf made a sound as he gripped the pillow further. “Did I wake you?”
Zev yanked on his arm to pull him back down. His arms wrapped around Akira and he buried his nose against Akira’s neck. “Smell… nice…”
The brunette couldn’t help but give a soft laugh. “Hey what time is it?”
Reaching behind him, Zev grabbed a watch and handed it to Akira. He gave a murmur as Akira pushed a small button to light the face of the watch. It was six in the morning. Of course Zev wouldn’t be up and moving, he wasn’t much of a morning person. Unless he had to get up. “Well are you up?”
He gave a jerk and muttered as he tightened his hold on Akira. “Hey I can’t sleep and I’m not going to lay around till you wake up.”
“I don’t wanna…”
“Let go or get up.”
A few seconds passed and then the wolf reluctantly let go of the brunette. Sleepy blue eyes watched as Akira stood up, “What…” He gave a yawn and then blinked a couple of times, “are you doing?”
“I’m going to get some fresh air.” Akira leaned over and kissed Zev. “If I’m not back before you wake, you can raise hell.”
“Will do.” The wolf watched as Akira smiled. His eyes slid closed and Akira stared at him for a few minutes. Straightening his back he grabbed a shirt off a wooden chair as he walked out of the room. Once the shirt was on he glanced down. It was one of Zev’s shirts. Chuckling he opened the door to the living space and walked out.
His hands found his pockets and he pulled out his tin. He looked down at it. There was a sound off to his side and he looked over to see Mace. His body tipped forward. The brunette caught him and sighed. Looking at his face his hand brushed the hair out of the boy’s face. “Shit.” Picking the boy up he looked at the passage Mace came from and on both sides where marks. What was beyond there?
Looking down he then stood up. The small boy was in his arms as he walked. Holding him with one arm he slipped the tin back into his pocket.
Mace made a sound as he sat up. A pack of ice fell into his lap and he looked down at it. He jumped at the sound of someone moving. “Relax.” Looking over he saw Akira a pencil hung from his mouth and a pad of paper sat on his lap. Gray eyes were focused on the tin in his hand. The lid was in the other. “You passed out when I walked by.”
“I’m s-s-sorry…”
“It wasn’t your fault.”
“W-what are y-y-you looking at?”
“A picture.”
“Um… uh…” He passed it to him and Mace took it from him. Looking inside it he found a picture of a woman holding a baby. Passing the tin back to Akira he looked at his lap. “I w-want to leave. I w-want to f-f-find my dad.”
“Do you know where he is?”
The boy looked away and shook his head, “B-b-but he can h-help m-m-m…” He clutched at his shirt as he took a breath. His body shook as he tried to calm down.
“Why do you take it?”
He looked at him, “W-w-what do you m-mean?”
“Why do you put up with everything that she deals out to you?” Mace shrugged and shook his head. There was a sound and both looked at the bedroom door. Zev blinked and looked at Mace.
“Hey kid! What’s up?” He finally saw the black eye. “Ouch that’s going to be a nice color. She blindsided you, didn’t she?”
“Y-y-yeah.”
“You really need to stop going to see her. If she does this to you your better off without it.”
The small boy shook his head and muttered, “S-she needs to e-eat.”
“Well I’ll get some food cooking.” He stopped when he saw Akira looking at the tin. The look in his eyes was different.
“It’s empty Zev.”
“I wasn’t thinking about that. What are you looking at?”
“My mom."
“What do you want?”
Akira glanced at him for a while and then closed the tin. “It doesn’t matter.” Mace’s dark blue eyes glanced between the two.
“It does when you’ve been tossing most of it.”
“I can’t help it.”
“Well you have to tell me what you feel like eating.”
“I can eat meat still.”
“Why does that not surprise me?”
They heard a sound laugh and they both looked at Mace. His hand was clapped over his mouth; eyes were wide as he looked away. The brunette smiled and stood up. “I’m going to paint.” Zev reached over and ruffled Mace’s hair. He jumped as he tried to push Zev’s hand away.
“S-s-stop.”
“I’m going to get some jerky.”
“Um…”
“You’ll get some too.”
Akira smiled as he sat a blank canvas on the easel. It wasn’t much but he really wanted to see Mace coming out of that shell that he tends to hide in.
Diter growled as he walked down the hall. A foot tall male was floating after him. “D-Diter slow down!”
“No.” He opened a door and came face to face with a man as tall as him. That man was currently sitting behind a desk. “What the hell do you want?” Matching red eyes met his head on and he growled at the long haired man.
“Diter. Sit.”
“No. I was in the middle of something.”
“Fine take Raven to him and send him after Akira. Something about the boy has changed. I want to know what it is.”
“What makes you think he’ll find him? He disappeared after that one idiot fucked up.”
“He can find anything.”
“That’s about the only fucking useful thing he can do. Why you ever saved him Father is beyond me.”
“You’ll see.” The man looked back at his desk and waved his hand. “Now leave I want to look these over.”
Diter turned and left the room. “Why me?”
“Because you always fuck up.”
“B-but I do my best!” The foot tall male had black eyes and dark almost black purple hair. He was pale and had on black clothing.
“If you mess up this time you’ll being seeing your father sooner than necessary.”
Wood chips fell to the ground as the little bird slowly took on a life. Long brown bangs and hair fell around his face. Black eyes watched as the knife whittled away the wood. A small bird. The door swung open and he looked up. “Zero! Get out here!” The door closed as he stood up. Waking over to the door he walked out into the hallway. “Here find him and your taking Raven.”
His eyes took in the picture of the male standing on a busy street next to a taller male. He pointed at the picture. “Yeah he’s always with that guy so can you find him.”
Zero nodded and then he turned to walk down the hall. “Zero.” He stopped and looked at the frown on Diter face. “That way is the exit.” His thumb jerked over his shoulder. He nodded and walked past him. Raven sat on Zero’s shoulder.
“Hey why do they call you Zero?”
Black eyes looked at him and he thumped his head as he grinned. The voice was soft as he spoke, “Empty.”
“I bet your smarter then Diter.”
That got him to grin and Raven started to laugh. “Funny.”
“I’d rather be your messenger then his. You are nicer.” He shrugged as they walked out of the building. “Well where should we start?”
Zero looked at the picture. “Here.”
“That is the city. It is a few miles from here.”
“Okay.”
Akira was playing a game with the old wolf again. The chess pieces would move and then the two would talk a little. The slim male rubbed his hand over his stomach. It was growing soft and losing some of the muscle it had. He made a face and the old wolf chuckled. “You remind me of my granddaughter when she started to gain a tummy. Don’t worry you’ll get it back.”
“Oh I know I’ll get it back. I can’t keep anything on when it comes to weight.”
Zev was sitting off to the side with Mace where he was showing him a how to make a paper air plane. A small group of kids were sitting around them. One of them was a close friend of Mace’s. The boy was taller than Mace and older by a year. He was loud and made it his goal to stand out the most. He also had the galls to stand up to both Akira and Zev. Telling them if he found out they were being mean to Mace he was going to put salt in their water supply. That friend had on a pair of glasses that fit his face. He had messy dark orange hair and dark green eyes. His skin was paler the Mace’s.
“J-J-Justin!” Mace was shouting as Justin his friend threw the paper plane and it hit Mika. “S-sorry Mika!”
Justin was grinning as Mace ran over to get the plane from her. Zev knocked the grinning boy on the head. “Oi!”
“I thought I told you to wait.”
The brunette sighed as he heard the argument that started. The old wolf chuckled and moved his chess piece. “Such a lively bunch.”
“I never asked you your name.”
“Ramon. But most of the younger pups call me grandpa or Ram.”
“Ramon I’ve never heard that before.”
“It’s an old name.”
Star came running over to Zev. Akira watched as she said something to him. They looked at him and then Zev was standing. There was a loud howl that made everyone grow quiet. Justin stood up and grabbed Mace’s arm. He watched as the two took off and Zev ran over to Akira. “Go to the room.”
“Why what was that?”
It had only been a month since they came here. Next week would be the beginning of the month. “Don’t worry. Come on let’s go.” He was pulled to his feet by Zev. They didn’t make it far when Zev stumbled at the loud growling shout. “I’m not ready for this!” Akira glanced over his shoulder to see a large man making his way through the crowd of wolves and weres.
“Zev…”
“I know. But I’m not going to have the same talk with him like last time. Asta almost gave him a black eye and I’m afraid you might break his nose.”
“I won’t unless he gives me a reason.”
“That’s what I’m afraid of.”
Zev made a sound as he felt himself being yanked. Glancing back he found Akira was being pulled back by his shit. His feet a few inches off the ground. Bored gray eyes looked at Zev, “If he doesn’t put me down I’ll make you suffer for the next seven months.”
“Why make me suffer he’s the one doing it!?” He glared at the older blond man. “Put him down!”
The man rumbled out, “Why?”
“Damn it, put him down! I don’t want to suffer for seven months!”
A smirk appeared on his face, “How bad would it be?”
“No touching and sleeping on the couch.”
“It’s not that bad.” Zev whimpered and Akira couldn’t help but give a soft laugh. The man sat him on his feet. “Sorry about that. I just had to see what you look like.”
“Can’t you see me fine?”
“Sadly I’m a wolf with bad eyesight.” He felt a hand smack him on the back and the large man turned to look behind him. A woman that was half his size stood there. She had blond hair that was short and choppy. Her frame was slender and fit.
“Sorry about that this old lug is just trying to look out for Zev.” Her blue eyes sparked with laughter and Akira could tell the woman was just as much a prankster as the old man. “It’s been a game for him to see how many times he can pick on Zev before the boy is too old to do so.”
“Sounds fun.”
“Please, Akira, don’t encourage him.”The dark haired male was frowning as Akira gave him a sly smirk.
“Well now I’m Brenda and this old oaf…” the man grunted at this, “is Zaki.” She clasped Akira’s hand between her hands. “Thank you for staying with Zev. He can be like his father at times.”
Looking over at Zev he found the wolf looking away and rubbing at the back of his head. ‘Oh really?’ “It can’t be that bad. I don’t hate it.”
“That’s good. Now I want to get to know you and I want to know about what Levana did. She can be sneaky at times.” The small group made their way down the cavern passage. Zev sighed as he followed. He really didn’t want to go through this.
Mace watched as Akira and Zev walked down the passage towards their room. Akira glanced at Mace and then waved his hand. The small boy backed up into Justin who stumbled a little. “M-Mace watch it!”
“S-S-Sorry.” They both had to crane there neck when the larger man walked past. He was huge and Mace let out a soft whimper. Justin swallowed at the sight. The man was packed with muscle.
“He could probably snap us in half if he wanted.”
“D-D-Don’t even j-j-joke!”
“You’re such a baby.”
The boys saw the woman as she walked along, “She’s an alpha and a good looking to.” He grabbed the back of Mace’s shirt and pulled him down the passage way. “Come on I want to know what’s going on. Something doesn’t feel right.”
“B-B-But Akira will be m-m-mad!”
Akira sat on the chair next to his easel as Zev sat on the chair near him. The large man was sitting on the couch Brenda was sitting next to him. Small in her size, she had this aura of importance. Mace gulped as Justin quietly opened the skylight. The sounds of their conversations floated up to them.
“I want to know if everything is as safe as you say it is. Is Akira safe?”
“Don’t worry if they try anything to take Akira it will break all ties and we are allowed to take you back with any force deemed necessary.”
There was a knock on their door. “Come in Star.”
Star walked in and she nodded towards the two older wolves. “Is everything alright?”
“Yeah.”
“When we hear about Zev taking a male lover we thought I wouldn’t work out. Seeing as there needs to be an heir or the pack will be tossed in to chaos if something happened to Zev.” Brenda smiled at Akira. “But I’m glad he met you. Maybe you can help him along; he’s not much of a leader more of a follower then away thing.”
Zev gave a snorted mutter as he looked away. He yelped when Akira gave his ear a sharp twist. “Say it louder I didn’t hear what you said!”
“I won’t make a good leader.”
“You’re right why would anyone want to rely on a lazy no good dog?” He flinched at the harsh tone. Star sighed as Akira kept taking. “You sleep in every damn morning and whine when I decided to leave your ass in bed. Waking you up is like trying to wake a bear in the middle of winter. You run into any situation without a backup plan. You always wing it when it comes down to helping me with the bounty hunting and half the time you don’t even stay with the original plan. You took a bullet for someone you didn’t even know and even went as far as going to find out who killed a random girl’s mother.” Brenda gave a small smile and Zaki shook his head. He jerked back when Akira got in his face, “You have got to be the stupidest person I’ve ever met!”
Once all the words sank in, he pouted, “Why do you keep calling me a dog?”
Akira twitched and grabbed his cheeks. “You stupid WOLF! Why are you bitching about not being a good leader when you’re a lot better than I am! I was chosen because of my skills in fighting, tactics, strength and the fact I was the only one who could stand up to those fucking assholes in that fucking place!” He let go and Zev rubbed at his cheeks.
“But…” He growled and went to grab again but Zev hid his head under a pillow as he shouted, “I don’t know the first thing about being a leader!”
Standing up, Brenda cleared her throat. The two looked at her, “A person can be trained to make the right choices but you need a lot more when it comes to being a leader. A leader needs to know when to run or when to fight; they need to know how to stand their ground under the gaze of an enemy. But above all else they need to have a heart to connect with their followers.” She pulled the pillow away from Zev. “Zev ever since you were younger you didn’t care if they were human or paranormal you found a way to help. I remember how you and Asta met. I bet you met Akira in a different but similar matter.”
The brunette turned as looked at a painting that was propped against the wall. The painting of a family and a house was sitting there. That painting was a dream. The home he wanted was still fresh in his mind. “How did you two meet?”
“Cat stuck in a tree. You lost your book.”
“Book?” That was right he did return his book. He had ripped apart the tree house and his room to find that book. “That’s right…” It just made that book more of a keep sake. Zev caught the smile on his face and he grinned.
“Who’s hungry?”
Akira sat up and he looked at the couch. “Hey Zev can you move the couch over here.” He pointed in front of him.
“What for?”
“Come on we have only five minutes.”
“Okay. Okay.”
Mace leaned closer. “W-w-what are t-t-they doing?” His friends shrugged and looked placed both hands on the window to get a better look. They both didn’t hear the sound the window made as both of their weights ended up on it.
“Geez that guy is just weird.”
“H-h-he is not w-w-weird.”
Just then the window gave and fell in. Both tumbled into the room and landed in a heap of tangled limbs on the couch. Justin hissed in pain as he clutched his head where Mace’s smacked him. “Holy man that hurts! Mace ya got a hard head.”
“H-h-hurts.”
There was a cough and both boys froze as they looked over. Star was standing there with her arms folded. The look on her face had both boys scared. “What are you two doing?”
“Nothing!” the glasses wearing boy stood up and brushed himself off. He snagged Mace by the arm, “Well we’ll be leaving now.” Star snagged the back of their shirts and pulled them back.
“Eavesdroppers need to learn their lesson.”
“B-b-b-b-b-but…” Mace let out a whimper as she carried both of them out of the room.
Akira reached over and pat Zev on the back, “Okay you can move it back.”
“It’s a good thing you saw that.”
“I guess. They would have been fine but I figured they should have a soft landing.”
Brenda looked at the two, “what are you talking about?”
They blinked at then looked at each other. “I thought your father would of told them by now.”
“Looks like he didn’t.”
“What are you talking about?” Zaki stood up from moving the couch back to its place.
“Akira is psychic.”
“Huh?” was the reply from both wolves.
“I see, feel and now I can hear paranormal thoughts.” He turned to his easel and then held his hand out. His paint brush floated over to him and picked up a jar of paint. The paint covered brush moved over the canvas filling in the color. “I can see five to ten minutes in the future for some things and I can paint things that will happen in the far future. It’s nothing big and I sometimes hate it but its better then my other skills.”
“Now I see why Levana likes you.”
“I guess.”
“You probably remind her of the one girl that was there a few years ago.” His hand stilled as she went on. “It was around when Zev finally started going back to the gatherings. I went to ask her a question and was almost knocked over by this girl. She came rushing out and the smell of blood was thick on her. Once inside I found Levana taking care of a wounded boy. Both had been found by Levana.”
They stayed for a little longer and Zev would gripe whenever Zaki picked on him. Once they left Zev sighed and slumped back in the seat. Akira glanced at Zev a paint brush caught between his teeth. Taking the other brush he leaned over and ran it up the side of his face. The wolf jerked away, falling over the armrest of the chair. He peeked over and looked at the laughing Akira.
He rubbed at his face and looked at his hand. It was only water. A grin spread across his face and Akira quickly grew quiet. Zev jumped and Akira shouted as paint brushes and the water jar flew in the air. The items clattered to the ground as a moan fill the air.
Lobo pushed the door opened, “Thank you Lobo.” She stopped and smiled. “Well what a surprise.”
Rainer and Tito held a half alive Daisuke. “The idiot pulled a stupid move.”
“Take him inside. Lobo will you go tell Zev what’s going on. They will be coming here for the Spring Gathering soon.”
When she closed the door a wolf was running into the woods. “Geez it’s been awhile.”
“Yes I see you two are closer than before. I remember the fight you two had before they left.”
Tito elbowed Rainer when he grinned. “After the woman he cared for dropped his ass he finally understood his real feelings.”
The woman walked over to the man on the bed. “I see he’s trying to draw them away.”
“Yeah, he told us.”
“What about you Rainer?”
He looked away and sighed, “I had to run. Someone saw me leaving after they set out to find Daisuke.”
“Why did you bring him here?”
“The treaty. We’re safe here.” Sitting down on a chair Rainer slumped over. “I’m getting too old for this.” Levana smiled as she walked over to a cabinet.
“You are as old as you feel.”
Tito gave a soft laugh, “Right now he’s feeling exhausted.” He placed a hand on Rainer’s shoulder and gave it a soft squeeze. “Cyan can take care of himself. Besides someone needs to keep an eye on Davion. He’s just as strong as you.”
“Your sap is killing me over here!”
“How do you feel, Daisuke?”
“Damn it I’m back in this hell.”
There was a growl from Levana, “Keep it up and I’ll send you to Akira in tiny pieces.”
“Why should I you’ll kill me with that gross shit.”
Levana grabbed his nose and yanked his head forward. “This gross shit is what’s keeping you from pulling stupid stuns like you did. You’re the only thing that boy has. So drink it.” She tipped his head back and dumped the foul liquid into his mouth.
He gagged and choked as he was forced to drink it. “Oh god that is foul!” There was a satisfied smile on her face as she walked over to the cabinet. “I swear you’re trying to kill me!”
“If I want you dead you three wouldn’t have made it inside this building.” She made a sound and muttered out. “Whatever she saw in you is beyond me.” Daisuke glared at her and she turned around, “oh yeah night night.”
“Huh? Uhhhh…” He clutched his head and then swayed to the side. “Oh fuck…” His body would have hit the floor if Raiden hadn’t caught him.
“Thanks Levana. You’re the only one we knew who could repress it. Well… other then Ellen.”
“Don’t worry about him. Worry about Akira.”
“What do you mean?” Tito was sitting on a chair a foot tall person stood next to him. She had long silver hair and green eyes. He handed something to her. The person nodded her head and then took off out the window.
“That boy is stronger than them both. If he were to gain all of it at once it would tear his mind and spirit.”
Raiden placed at man back on the bed. “All of this wasn’t supposed to happen.” He looked at her. “Was it?”
“No it wasn’t. Something far worse was supposed to happen.” She looked at Daisuke. “Ellen played with every idea till she saw something better. It didn’t go as plan. Fate didn’t like her trying to change everything, so they stopped her.” Sitting down at the table she sadly looked at the table. “Akira was supposed to go all the way. One day he was to come home and find everything gone. The King as you call him finds out everything about Akira and Daisuke from your friend. The home was ripped apart the only thing that would be left was two people. Ransom and another person, I could never see who it was. The three would run.”
It felt like the images were placed in their heads as she talked. They could see three people running as a group of armed winged men chased after them.
“They would end up in Wolfen territory and soon the chase would stop. The three would get to the city and they would blend in quickly. Both would find Mitch and stay with him. Akira would end up meeting the same people but under different circumstances. Each event would change him slowly. Then when everything would seem like it would just crumble your friend would show himself. All hell would break loose and Akira would end up as a shell. Nothing would bring him back, not even Zev’s influence.”
“So you’re saying that he still meets up with the wolf?”
“Yes, you see Zev’s life was always linked to Akira’s. He saved the cat that belonged to the writer who wrote a book. A book that is the real story, a story that is the truth. A truth that has an ending that will happen no matter how many times you rewrite it. That book now belongs to Akira.” Levana stood and grabbed a few cups out. She started to fill each cup with some warm liquid. “It is up to Akira if he wants to give up or if he wants to live. Who knows he might be able to rewrite his ending. An ending that no psychic has to go through.”
But men took the cups with a quick thanks and then they sat around drinking the warm liquid. Tito kept his hands on the warm cup as he spoke, “But what would happen if it doesn’t affect him too badly?”
“Even that I do not know.”
“I just hope he lives through all of this. For everyone’s sake.” Both of them looked at Raiden and nodded in agreement.
Zev jerked awake and glanced over at Akira. He was painting again. The slim body shifted in his seat and then looked back to fine half awake blue eyes looking at him. “I thought it was me who was supposed to sleep a lot.”
“Haha.” He rolled over as Akira turned back to the easel. “Today is a lazy day.” Looking up Zev could see the rain pelting against the windows. At least it wasn’t storming, if it was… a grin appeared on his face as Akira gave a curse under his breath.
“Zev your being loud again!”
“Sorry.” He rolled his shoulders and yawned. “Akira.” When the brunette didn’t answer he frowned, “Akirrraa! I’m bored!”
“Go do something.”
“There is nothing to do.”
“Zev…” His gray eyes glared at him, “Stop acting like a puppy!”
The pout was clear on his face as he muttered, “I’m not a puppy.” He rolled over till his back was to Akira and then closed his eyes. “Fine I’ll just take a nap.”
Akira sighed as he went back to painting. With it raining Zev was stuck inside with him. The only reason he was here was to be close just in case it started to storm. He reached for another jar as he cleaned off the brush. Picking it up he started to paint with that color. His eyes became unfocused and he placed the brush down to rub at his eyes. Blinking he looked back at the easel. Maybe he should go take a quick nap.
Zev jerked back awake when he heard a thud and a crash. Sitting up he looked over to find Akira out cold sprawled on the ground. “Akira.” The jar had shattered on the ground and the chair was tipped over. “Akira!” He knelt down and picked Akira up. The slim male whimpered in pain, “Hey Akira you awake.” He quickly made his way out of their home and down to the infirmary.
