Rumors

Chapter 54 – Rumors

“I hear that Link is her cousin.”

“That whole family seems a bit off.”

“If Link is her cousin, then Harmony, Darrke, and Shu are all cousins with Yuna, Link, Sora, and Tiera. Didn’t Sora and Harmony have a thing? How are they related?”

“It’s still weird. Who dumps a guy like Daniel for a nerdy bastard like Link?”

“Well, look what happened to Yuna, since Bliss is his cousin Link probably thinks she’s a whore too.”

“Both of those families are a bit off.”

“She’s probably pregnant.”

“But is it Link or Daniel’s?”

“Hasn’t Daniel been hanging around Tiera a lot lately?”

“I’m going to kill Davea.” This was from our poor heroine. Bliss sat in the lunch room, all of the rumors and voices going through her head. They were not all being said at once, just throughout the weeks little tidbits would find their way back to her. When Bliss tried to talk to Davea, to try to make her friend cool her anger, Davea only yelled in a voice loud enough for the halls to hear, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for it to slip you fucked him in the car at lunch!” which was an untrue hurtful thing to say.

“So it is time for us to play dirty back,” Link smiled ruthlessly.

“She used to be my best friend,” Bliss reminded him.

Link shook his head and let the thought fall from Bliss’s mind. “A friend would not hurt you like this,” Link pointed out. “A friend would not be trying to make your life miserable. No, she’s acting more like a jealous lover.”

“You think all of those rumors about her are true?” Bliss asked curiously.

Link smiled that same ruthless smile, never letting it falter from his lips. “Yes,” he admitted, “and it will only take a few casual words to have that rumor hot and heavy by the end of the day. But, it will take some devious action by you, almost the same way she did it to you. You just have to be loud. Like when the two of you have gym together, in the locker room…”

Bliss was not good at these types of things. Her locker was almost right next to Davea’s and Davea kept sending her long hurtful looks. Bliss could not believe that what Link was suggesting was true. After all of this time would Bliss not have noticed that Davea had an interest in her that was more than friendship? Surely she was not so blind? But, she did miss all of the signs that Link wanted her as more than a mutual enemy too.

Bliss took her time undressing, and then redressing. She wanted to test Link’s theory. The rumor did not have to be started today if she did not want it to. She had suffered through weeks of tormented rumors about herself that she could stand to give Davea that one last day of reprieve. She wanted Davea to do what Link and she did not: deny it all. Link and Bliss would answer no questions, and they would give no fuel to the fire. They found that people lost interest if they could not take their words out of context. Davea had never tried denying she was a lesbian, which is part of the reason the rumor hardly ever gained momentum, but if the world thought she spread the rumors of Link and Bliss because she was a spurned lover, that might be different. Bliss did not care if the rumor might hurt her in the long run as well; she just wanted to see Davea as hurt as she was.

Davea lingered for as long as it took Bliss to dress. She busied herself with lotion and changing and anything else she could, but she kept passing Bliss glances as she took her time. This made her feel awkward to the point of no return and Bliss finally hurried the rest of the way dressed and rushed out to the gym. In gym they were playing basketball, it was still just a little too cold to go outside. Bliss planned on making sure she was on the opposite team of Davea, and while she still had respect as an athlete she was chosen on the team she manipulated herself onto perfectly and Davea on the opposite side. Bliss made it seem like Davea chose to block her when in fact Bliss made sure she was blocking Davea. Bliss tried to look innocent as she ‘bumped’ into Davea and Davea looked nothing but shocked. Then Davea started taking initiative and bumping into Bliss, their bodies pressed close, Davea’s hand sliding around her. Was Davea taking this as initiative?

They bumped into each other one last time and Davea landed on top of Bliss. Davea lingered for just the right amount of time and Bliss’s eyes suddenly widened and she said, perfectly calm, no louder than she would have ever said it, but her audience was already captured and listening to them both breathe heavily, “Davea, I told you it’s over,” and Bliss shoved her off harshly. “I don’t know why you seem so insistent on trying to hurt me still, spreading those rumors about me. I’m not a lesbian, I’m sorry it could not work between the two of us, but I need a man, someone who is dominant. You have never been that.”

It was the right amount of speech to make people’s jaws drop and all suddenly forgot about the basketball game as they stared at the two girls. Davea did not know what to say as she sputtered. She looked around at the people staring at her, and now even the teachers were interested for a game had stopped while the other courts continued moving. They started to walk forward, already yelling for people to keep playing and asking what was the problem. Davea backed away from Bliss, who seemed to have a small smile hidden as she bit her lip innocently.

Davea fought back. “Well, you were never good in bed,” she snapped back.

Touché. But still not good enough. “Excuse me?” Bliss asked, raising an eyebrow. “You are the only one who ever got any pleasure, remember, and I think you writhing on the bed and screaming is a good amount of pleasure.” There, Bliss looked decided horrible, but at the same time she would have a good reputation as a good fuck, and Davea just looked like a submissive hurtful jerk.

“You two, take this up elsewhere,” one of the gym teacher’s hissed, his voice carrying slightly as everyone else was now turning to stare. “I want you off the court, now.”

Perfect. The two girls huffed and moved into the locker room to continue their cat fight, but they were followed by the only female gym teacher who sneered at the two of them and began yelling, “What do you two think you were doing out there? This is not the place to be airing your dirty laundry.”

“I’m sorry,” Bliss apologized first, “I just could not take her stalking me and spreading hurtful things about me anymore just because she’s been spurned.”

“That is a hurtful lie,” Davea yelled, turning to Bliss and clenching her fists.

“Like what you said about me?”

“All of that was the truth!”

“Said because you were mad at me for keeping a few secrets?”

“Enough! Both of you to the principal’s office, NOW!” The gym teacher could hardly contain her temper. “Actually, I’ll walk you both there myself, I want to make sure you actually go.”

Bliss felt mildly triumphant, until she was told their parents were being called and she realized she would have to be facing Shai soon. Bliss sighed, and waited for her punishment. So close to graduation and she could not have held out, but it felt good to see Davea crying in the chair across from her, and Bliss could not help feeling a little self-satisfied.
