Feelings of Betrayal
“How could she?” Yuki ranted in her shared bedroom with her husband later that evening. She still would not let the subject drop and Shinwa was complacently listening, saying not a word the entire time as she ranted for hours. “Is it why she paid for Shai and I to send the girls to boarding school in Europe? It is the only explanation I could think of. What would make her decide for my daughter what she should do?”
Shinwa could not handle it any longer. “She did not decide for Tiera,” he snapped. “She gave Tiera a means to carry out what she had decided.”
Yuki stepped away from the closet, half dressed, half undressed, and forgetting what she was doing as she looked at her husband. “So I suppose you think Lilis is right in wanting to get rid of the baby?”
“She was raped,” Shinwa snapped. “If you had ended up carrying Kago’s baby after he had tried to asphyxiate you would you have wanted to keep it?”
“I would have,” Yuki sneered.
“Because that was the only option you were given,” Shinwa argued back. “You knew of women who kept their children. Even Kaori had her baby, knowing that it was most likely possible it was her brother’s and would turn out defected, but Tiera did not want that. Tiera made a choice.”
“The wrong choice.”
“In your opinion,” Shinwa defended. “I think she did the right thing. It would have affected her the rest of her life.”
Yuki shook her head frantically, willing all of the negativity to go away. “They kept this from me for over a year,” she finally said.
Shinwa sat on the bed and reached out a hand to his wife, finally understanding. Yes, she did not believe it was right, and she wanted Lilis to keep the child, to raise a child with Frost, though there was no love between them; it was the perfect world that Yuki lived in. This was not what was truly upsetting to Yuki any longer; it was the lies woven around her.
Yuki took her husband’s hand and allowed him to pull her into his lap and hold her like they were teenagers again. “They were protecting each other,” he explained to Yuki. “They were protecting Tiera from your anger and protecting Fuji from her betrayal of you, but they did it out of love, for you, for Tiera, for Fuji. No one meant to hurt you; it was why they kept it from you.”
“It does not make it any less painful,” Yuki admitted when her racking sobs had subsided.
“No, but you are Yuki Kiseki, at least you are here,” Shinwa added, “and you have always been able to get over every hump with a smile. I expect you to do the same here. There is no punishment you can give to Tiera for her past deeds, they are already done. And ignoring Fuji for all time would only break both of your hearts. You can be mad and bitter, but you have to learn for how long and for what reason.”
“Can I be mad?” Yuki asked quietly, looking up at her husband for permission.
“Oh, by all means, yes,” Shinwa smiled. “You can be mad at both of them, but don’t make it for too long. We don’t want our daughter to feel too miserable.”
“No, not too miserable.”
“I can’t believe my mother honestly sent me here!” Yuna raved to her roommate. She threw a pillow across the room and continued to make random huffing noises.
“Are you still huffing about that?” Harmony asked, irritated by the sudden interruption of her studies. “You only have a few more months this year, and then next year. I have two more years after this, and with that awful lecherous headmaster around…”
“Shu’s father was a teacher first, right?” Yuna suddenly asked, turning to the younger girl.
“So?” Harmony asked, wondering if she could paint her toenails without being caught by some wench teacher in an evil mood. It took her a few moments to see the dawning thoughts reaching across Yuna’s face. “You are not going to even think about it?” Harmony asked sharply. “The headmaster is married to one of the teachers. Besides, he would never actually with a student.”
“How do you know?” Yuna asked just as sharply back. “Have you tried?”
“Of course not,” Harmony huffed. “I still plan on getting Ashe back.”
“That’s a hopeless cause,” Yuna barked. “He’s in love with his sister, you incessant ninny. Why don’t you keep at Sora for a while, he may finally break down?”
“Sora is in military school, then after he graduates he is going straight to the military, kind of a lost cause on him, isn’t it?” Harmony snuffed.
Yuna raised an eyebrow. “Then why not have fun with a few of the teachers here?”
“When did you become such a whore?” Harmony asked honestly.
“When Waza made me that way,” Yuna spat. “He had the indecency to plaster my picture all over the school, well, if I’m going to be a whore I’m going to live up to my name.”
“No one knows that about you here,” Harmony argued. She didn’t know why she was trying to protect the girl; the girl would have done far less for her. “Why do it?”
“If my mother saw fit to send me away, I’m going to show her what a bad idea it was,” Yuna smiled. “Betray me, and I will betray you back. Help me, Harmony. What better plans do you have for your body?” Harmony glared at Yuna hard before Yuna continued, knowing which buttons to push in the young girl. “Besides, Ashe betrayed you, did he not? He turned you into what Waza turned me into: a whore. You weren’t loved, you were used because his sister was still too young to be raped.”
Harmony’s slap was cold and hard against Yuna’s cheek, but Yuna did not even let it faze her. She stood up and looked down at the younger girl, just waiting for an answer. It felt like hours before Harmony looked up at Yuna and said, “I actually have a great plan.”
