Yuki Learns the Truth
“Did you call the police?” It seemed the logical thing to ask as the first question that blurted from Yuki’s lips as Lilis cried over a cup of coffee with her.
Lilis shook her fluffy blonde head and looked up, her eyes clear. “When I woke up I had been bathed and laid on new sheets,” she admitted. “It was over a month ago, we can’t tell now.”
“We?” Yuki crooked up an eyebrow and looked at the girl she had raised as her own child. She was going mad inside and did not know how else to react. She wanted to start shooting at any moment; she barely cared whom she shot. She just wanted someone to pay for what they did.
“Frost was raped as well,” Lilis muttered.
“Why are you telling me this now?” Yuki could not help her indignant anger. “Why did you wait over a month to tell me what had happened?”
“What could you have done then?” Lilis asked.
“I could have dragged your ass to the hospital so we could have done DNA tests on anything. We still could try, to see if the house has been completely cleaned. There are ways of catching these creeps. Both you and Frost? That’s…” Yuki fell silent. What was that? Appalling? It did not seem strong enough a word for what was going through her mind right now.
“Yuki,” Lilis began, reaching across and grabbing the woman’s hand. “There’s a reason I am telling you now.” Yuki just stared at her, no longer able to form the words that would form a question. Lilis cleared her throat and sighed. “I’m pregnant.”
“There’s our evidence!” Yuki practically screamed as she slid her chair out from under her and stood. She raised a fist of justice into the air and punched several times. “They can do a DNA test on the child and find out who it was from that.”
“I’m not having this baby,” Lilis said flatly. “I’m telling you because I hoped you would take me to get rid of it.”
“What do you mean you aren’t having it?” Yuki asked snottily. It was the only time Lilis had ever seen the woman passionate about something in her life. Yuki was a blasé sort of woman, but in this she had a fire in her eyes that burned a hole right through Lilis’ being.
“I’m not having some rapist’s child,” Lilis sneered.
“But you will let him get away with rape,” Yuki pointed out.
“Mom!” Tiera walked into the kitchen at that time followed shortly after by Rhapsody, who was looking less small lately in stature. It was about time she had a short growth spurt. Rhapsody looked nervous, but Tiera looked determined. “Lilis has the right to do what she wants.”
“What?” Yuki asked, angry. “You were listening on the other side of the door?”
Tiera shrugged her shoulders, “Yeah,” and looked unconcerned about her reproach. “If Lilis needs to do it, she should. She can’t keep a baby right now.”
“Why not?” Yuki asked, looking from her daughter to sister-in-law. “You have Frost to help you take care of it. Don’t you? The two of you can raise this child.”
“We don’t want children,” Lilis pointed out. “He’s gay and has no interest in raising some woman’s child, and I am in love with a child.”
“Ewww…” Tiera could not help herself from blurting.
“Oh, he’s not really a child,” Lilis hissed. “He’s just not over eighteen either.”
“What?” Yuki asked helplessly. She was growing more and more lost as the conversation progressed.
“I have a crush on a student, I’m pregnant with my rapist’s child, and I want to get rid of it,” Lilis pointed out. “I think that pretty much brings everyone up to speed.”
“Get rid of it.”
“Keep it.”
Yuki and Tiera turned to each other and glared. Yuki threw up her hands. “I did not raise you lot to act like this,” she said. “Shai had hard times, but she raised Shu and Bliss anyway.”
“And looked what happened to them,” Tiera retorted.
Rhapsody’s mouth fell into an o and Yuki turned to her daughter with that fire burning hot and molten. Tiera realized she had stepped too far and slowly began backing towards the door. “I’m just saying that…” Tiera did not know what she was saying.
“If you ever even hint that Shai was a bad mother again you will be grounded so long the next time you see Rhapsody will be at her funeral when she is one hundred and two,” Yuki snapped.
“So, if I had a child at this age, you would be in full support?” Tiera asked.
“I would never be in full support,” Yuki snapped. “You are too young to be having sex and you would be grounded again, but I would never tell you to get rid of it.”
“Too late,” Tiera told her mother.
“What?”
Rhapsody was sliding through the door now and out of the kitchen. She definitely looked ready to escape.
“I had an abortion,” Tiera admitted to her mother. “I am too young to have Daniel’s child, and Lilis will only resent the child she is about to have because of the manner he or she will be brought into the world.”
“I apparently sent the wrong daughter to boarding school,” Yuki snapped. “What the Hell do you mean you had an abortion? You can’t do something like that without a parent’s permission.”
Tiera looked helplessly for Rhapsody, who was trying her hardest to flee the room. Instead she stopped at the door and looked back to Tiera with a long sigh. Yuki looked from girl to girl then began shaking her head.
“Tell me she didn’t,” Yuki begged. “Tell me she didn’t do it.”
Rhapsody bowed her head and Tiera could not look her mother in the eyes. Yuki felt helpless as she looked from one dark head to a medium-brownish head to the fluffy blonde head of Lilis, who now was looking in the opposite direction.
“Did everyone know but me?” she asked of the women in the room. The silence was all of the ‘yes’ that Yuki needed. “Excuse me, I have to call a so-called best friend. Lilis, we are not through discussing this.”
“Yuki, I don’t need your permission,” Lilis growled. “I just need someone to drive me. If you are unwilling then I will ask someone else.”
Yuki turned to Lilis and slammed her hand on the table. “We will talk about this later!” she screamed at the girl she helped raise. “As of right now, though, I want everyone to sit down and shut up while I make a phone call.”
