Epilogue: Goal
Epilogue: Goal
It was another Saturday, two weeks later, and Lisa, Wendy, and Julian were all riding their bikes on the long path along the river. They had pledged to go ten miles before they returned home, showered, and spent the rest of the afternoon making love on the king-sized bed that Lisa had just had delivered to their condo.
Coming the other way were a couple of Lisa’s luncheon friends, Sara and Lucy. They waved as Lisa and the kids approached.
“Hi, Lisa!” said Sara.
“How are you?” Lucy asked. “You’re all looking cheerful. And fit.”
“Hey, girls,” Lisa said, cheerfully. “Yes, we’ve made this family bike ride our new Saturday-afternoon tradition.” Part of it, anyway, she thought, eyes sparkling.
“You really do look wonderful,” Sara added. She lowered her voice. “Have you been on a diet?”
“Well,” said Lisa, trying to suppress a smile, “like they say, it’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change.”
“Good for you,” Lucy said.
“You all have this…healthy glow,” Sara added.
“Thank you,” Lisa said. “Well, we’d better finish up; we’ve got things to do before dinnertime. Kids, ready to head home?”
“Uh-huh,” said Julian cheerfully.
“Oh, yes,” said Lisa, a bit dreamily.
They rode home, a smile on each of their faces, looking forward to the one thing that they knew for certain awaited them.
Satisfaction.
