Tales of Kako
Of course its Alamare
It was almost too easy was all I could think as we walked out the doors and snuck through the alleyways. This town is old, brick buildings with mom and pop stores everywhere. I followed this man as he led me through this maze. We got to the top of a hill overlooking the city in the distance. It that has a statue of a man holding a lance in one arm, his helm in the other. He is wearing battle armor with a cape flying in the wind. He has the look of victory in his eyes and a gentle smile upon his lips. Its surrounded by flowers and landscaping of course.
"Alamare? We are in Alamare!? Of course its Alamare..." I said almost screaming.
"You have been here before?"
"They say the statue speaks to those who will listen."
"Is it true?"
"Of course not."
I looked up at the bronzed old man standing 15 feet tall. Memories of him in a past life always flooded my mind every time I looked upon his image.
"Lacath" I mumbled under my breath
"So... when did you..."
"In its prime Peace and Pride once filled the streets... As it should, and has not in a long time. I wish I could have seen it. I visited here before all the destruction, I was here when it all went down." I said as I pointed up at the statue. "He was born here, and respectively buried here. Her Majesty had the city built when he became ill. He stayed in that manor the rest of his days making it his own. After his death they buried him within a tomb whose location only a few know somewhere within these grounds."
"Such a shame that it turned into this ghost town now."
I walked around the statue until the city was in sight. Or should I say what's left of the city. The manor which is just as impressive as every other one of my castles sits atop a hill and around it ruins, charred remains, and deviation. It looked like what would remain inside an apocalyptic wasteland. Zombies included... The church claims it is their gods power that keeps the zombies within the main city limits. The truth, well that is saved for another day.
"We have two options, to the East, we could travel more through the city and deal with them." He pointed at the zombies.
"Or?"
"Or, to the South through the forest where I am sure more lovely church members await us."
"Well choice is clear then."
We hiked a ways and got to a field whose grass came up to my thighs. The three moons light was covered by clouds and my new friend's appearance changed. He now had Brown spiky hair and no longer pointy ears.
"Alex!" I did the appropriate thing and tackle hugged him.
"You know all truths are revealed within the light of the three moons."
His fangs had dissapeared too.
"I never saw your Dragonic form before. I should have known that you would be the one to come get me."
"Kako... have you noticed?"
"Noticed what?"
"It seems not even the churches spell on you is not as strong as they think when you get around reminders of painful memories."
"That's a good thing, isn't it?"
"What was his name?"
"Whose?"
"The man whose statue that was."
"Lacath, Head commander of Her Majesty personal guard until he fell ill and was given the title of Lord of Alamare"
The light of the three moons hit me stopping me in my tracks and I closed my eyes and took a deep breath of fresh air. I opened my eyes to see my captor had turned back into his previous form.
"So you remember everything?"
"It seems that way"
"And their spell?"
"My powers, it does not seem as though I can use them"
"But I saw you use them."
"I mean, I could in theory use them. If I tap into the evil roots of this world. But you know how dangerous that would be if I turned. So I would never use them."
"Cucumbers."
"HM..?"
"Kako, I smell Cucumbers!"
and with that it was too late as the foul brown copperhead struck my ankle and was greeted with an arrowhead through the brain.
"24 that bastard" I now hobbled further into the field.
"23, and you know you could just pick up that arrow and use it again." Alex said as he ran ahead to catch up. He put my arm around him and helped me walk.
"Not worth it"
We crept through to the trees and the shade hid his silver hair once more. Just like that, I heard a loud crack up ahead, and just like that, metal reflected all around as we were surrounded.
