Bloodless Owls

“Duncan can you please explain to the council why you didn’t realize why your assignment had been infected by demons?” The Order of Owls Guardian Council has requested my presence for questioning.

“It must have been planned by the demons to infect her. They did so in an organized manner unlike any I have ever seen before. It was nearly impossible to tell she had been infected until it was too late to reverse the process.” I try to answer the questions they present to me honestly.

“Did you suspect that your assignment had something to do with the murder of the teenage boy?”

“Yes, but I did not know she was directly involved. I assumed that she had been the victim of mind erasure. I was planning on questioning her that evening.”

“Why did you not go to her directly for questioning?”

“I received a call from my housemates to discuss the murder and possible suspects in the cause of the murder.”

“Duncan Saw-whet you have failed your fellow Guardians and are hereby suspended from duty. You have failed to prevent the turning of your assignment into a demon, caused needless distress within the human community, and have rid the world of a great human revolutionary. You will not be able to return to your natural owl form and will be forced to live amongst the humans so you may witness the havoc your failure will cause. Council dismissed. This case is closed.”

“Please sir, with your blessing I would like to be able to hunt down the infected demon and restore the human habitat to what it once was.”

“Request denied. We are going to dispatch someone more capable to hunt down this abomination.”

Well, they are going to have to find her before I do. I know her better than anyone, and if I have to hunt her as a human, so be it.
