Epilogue

Chief's Journal

Sunday June 19, 2045

Life is promising. Despite the constant stream of shit, good things continue to happen--which leads me to believe that they will in the future. They say inductive reasoning is flawed, but I say fuck that. Certainly we need something concrete, something comforting and constant to keep us from going batshit insane and to maintain a sense of normalcy. But I digress.

Alex continues to be one of my favorite people--as well as the main contributor to my often fleeting optimism. Despite her past hardships, she continues--to my utter disbelief--to genuinely see the best in others and hope for tomorrow, as well as maintain not just a positive attitude but an honest-to-god love for her job (something not many people can boast). Also, she's one of the few optimists I've met who I didn't want to punch in the face after the first five minutes. Her personality is infectious, and yet...unobtrusive. She's very laid back--like myself--and doesn't force her views on other people. And in this case optimist actually does NOT mean 'blind idealist.' If there's one thing Alex Lynch is, it's extremely rational.

She's also one of my best agents, which she proved yet again this weekend. After averting a potential disaster--wherein dozens of lives might've been lost--she went face to face with one of the government's most wanted supervillains and brought him into custody.

And of course, I still am very much in love with Rachel. It's funny, because I never used to believe in love--and even now I'm still very skeptical of the concept--but regardless of that, I know that we have something between us. I'm not sure if it's love, but it's something, and it's ours. I'm just glad she's okay. She stumbled into a trap the other day and probably would've died had she not employed a last-resort tactic...I wish she would accept the treatment. I've made it perfectly clear that the offer still stands even though she turned it down. It's also unfortunate that she had to use that, since now her captive is useless to us. He'll most likely be transported to a local mental facility.

As for Lynne Greene...well, she doesn't seem to have much of a sense of humor. Although to be fair, I don't know her very well. She does her job and goes home; she doesn't talk much. I don't know of anyone who's spoken to her for more than a few minutes. I think, what it is, is that she keeps her professional and social lives separate, and if that's the case I can respect and understand that. Regardless, she's exceptional and motivated each and every day and she never complains. She's more than earned my trust.

Anyway, I've got a busy day coming up, so I should probably stop now.

I'm really grateful for everything. Until tomorrow.
