Chapter Five

*Chapter Five*

I stared at Lisette as Mrs. Nite droned on about poetic devices. She was sitting in her customary seat by the window. She was taking notes diligently, her head bent studiously over her notebook. The sun was shining on her dimly, subtly lighting up her beautiful auburn hair and highlighting her bone pale skin. A calm expression was on her face and her makeup was perfectly placed. There wasn’t a hint of what had happened a mere half hour earlier. She was her normal porcelain self.

The bell rang and I jumped up and walked over to her. She looked at me and I noticed that she tensed and then fully relaxed. Lisette trusted me.

“Are you still coming home with me tomorrow?” I asked.

“Yes, if that’s okay,” she said in a sort of shy voice.

"It’s perfectly fine,” I told her. “You know it’s supposed to snow tomorrow night though, right? Like, a whole lot. You may want to bring some spare clothes just in case you get snowed in.”

“Oh,” Lisette said with a blink. “I never even thought of that. Yes, of course I’ll bring some clothes.”

“Will that be okay?” I asked. “I mean, um, you won’t get in trouble if that happens, will you?”

“I...” she looked off with a pondering look on her face. “I’m not sure.”

She looked back at me, her face open and innocent. I felt my heart skip a beat. I wanted to kiss her right then.

“Um...” I blinked rapidly and ran a hand through my hair, looking away from those beautiful green eyes that were making it hard to think. “What if you just stayed the night with me? Just in case?”

Lisette frowned slightly and tilted her head. “Hmm. Well, okay. That could work. I’ll ask my parents tonight and then text you when I find out.”

“Okay.” I smiled at her. “I guess I’ll talk to you later.”

Lisette nodded and left the room. I walked out into the hallway. Luke spotted me and waved me over.

“You okay? You look kind of out of it,” Luke said with a frown.

I blinked and shook my head. “No. It was just a really long day.”

He nodded and threw an arm over me. “Sorry, Jo.”

“It’s fine,” I said with a sigh. “Just take me home, please.”
