Part 5
Author's Note: Wow... I really like these characters, they aren't giving me a rest... well, this is definitely ahead of schedule, but who am I to complain?
ikkichi: I'm sorry I shocked you speechless, i hope it was the good kind though... Maybe I should have posted a warning about the reveal... anyway, there's more to come ;)
My dear readers, I do hope you enjoy reading this story as much I enjoy writing it, unfortunately, I have no way of knowing unless you review. XD

I don’t know how long I cried, or when my cats got into the room, they were just there. I looked at them out of blurry eyes and tried to wipe my tears smiling at their innocent concern. “Hey guys.” I whispered, not really trusting the sound of my own voice. My emotions were still too raw. My hands moved to pet them and they rubbed themselves on my still shaking body. “I’m okay… really…” Mikka looked up to me with a skeptical look that made me chuckle despite the circumstances. “At least I will be…” Tiri nuzzled my other side before making her way onto my lap again. I petted her until I felt the vibrations of her purring in my legs, while Mikka stretched on my sheets and curled up in a ball next to me. Slowly I lowered myself back to my pillows and tried to close my eyes…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It took me hours to finally fall asleep, and even then my rest was fitful. Not truly wanting to revisit the horrors of my past, not wanting to stay awake, I was stuck somewhere in between. My mind was over thinking things and I just wanted to rest, I wanted peace. ‘You’re not going to get it by trying to sleep.’ my mind almost shouted. I opened my eyes groggily feeling something was different. It only took a moment to realize what was wrong. Someone was in my room. I jolted upright, tense, my cats automatically hissing at the presence and I relaxed when I noticed it was only Terra. ‘Stalker much?’ she must have read my thoughts on my face because she responded
“Your door was unlocked and you were practically screaming.” Although it didn’t count that with hearing like ours, if we were focusing on the silence, whispers can sound like shouts.
“I had a nightmare.” I said “Nothing to big.”
“You seem to have them a lot around this time…” she observed. “Anything you want to talk about?” ‘Alphas protect.’ I don’t know why the mantra suddenly came in my head at that point, but it was then I chose to look at her… Truly look at her, unflinching and piercing, seeing the obvious power and genuine concern that emanated from her. I shook my head slowly
“Nah,” I said, “I don’t want you to worry over me.” ‘It wouldn’t be right.’ she looked at me intently for a few moments more, trying to see past what I showed them all and I averted my gaze. Finally she sighed
“I don’t know how many times I’ll have to say this but, if you ever need someone to talk to…”
“I know where to find you.” I finished, glancing up to see her nod. Moments later she was gone and my cats calmed down. I looked over at my clock, wondering briefly if Marina was home today…
~~~~~~~~~~~
“What do you like to do in your spare time really?” Marina really couldn’t seem to grasp the fact that I didn’t go to clubs or parties when I was free on weekends or days like today.
“I told you, I’d rather read a book or run. On the rare occasion I’d just watch television but that’s it.” she shook her head.
“I’m getting you into a club one of these days.” her playful smile practically lit her face up and I was having some trouble concentrating on the spaghetti and meatballs before me.
“I’d honestly like to see you try.” I smirked.
“You would, would you?” her eyebrows arched to the sky. “Well you’re looking after one of my babies and her soon to be babies, so I think you need some compensation don’t you?”
“No I don’t.” I replied “It’s my job to take care of animals.”
“More like your life.” my eyebrows came together. “Don’t look at me like that. You weren’t the first vet I took Misa to… you were just the first to tell me what was wrong, especially with such a simple test.” she said leaning towards me. Her scent was intoxicating “And I have reason to believe you knew what was wrong before you took the test, so tell me… What’s your secret.” I gave her a grin
“You wouldn’t believe me even if I told you, so why don’t we just settle with, ‘I’m good’.” she narrowed her eyes at me, our food forgotten.
“How about the first time you came here?”
“What about it?”
“My dogs, do not like other people.” she said slowly. “The first time anyone, vets, dog lovers, friends, anyone who comes over, they practically try to rip out flesh, though with you…” I turned to see one of them, I think his name was Jac, sitting at my feet glancing at my plate occasionally. “It’s like you have Alpha blood or something…” my body froze, her words were whispered, but I heard them clear as day, and my body exposed me… but only if, I turned to her to see recognition on her face.
“You’re a wolf too…?” ‘Strangely I am not surprised…’ How we managed to move from playful banter to disclosing of our natures was beyond me, but I felt comfortable with her knowing. It explained so much. The wolfy smell that seemed to linger around her that I thought initially came from the huskies. Her restlessness, and why Terra asked if I knew her. Yet, it was moving a bit too fast. “Terra doesn’t even know I’m an alpha.” I muttered.
“You know that bubbly chick?” Marina asked in shock. I nodded. “She’s a bit psycho I think…” I laughed
“She means well.”
“Doesn’t change the fact that she’s mad.” I had to agree with her there. “How long has she been trying to recruit you?”
“Almost since I came her four years ago.” she nodded.
“You don’t have dogs?”
“Cats.”
“You should have gotten dogs.” I laughed but thought back to my cats and how they kept me sane the times I need them the most.
“I wouldn’t trade my cats for the world… they hate other wolves though… makes me wonder how they like me so much.” Marina’s eyes trained on me as I spoke, and for a while after a was silent
“I’d like to meet them sometime.” she said after a while, breaking the trance and re-focusing on our food before it got too cold.
“Maybe you can come over sometime… after the full moon wanes…” she nodded, and I smiled…
