Part 5
Author's note: Finally updated YAY!! I had to delete the chapter with the characters so for those who haven't seen it yet here you go:
The Demons Within Me: Characters
Amanda Marie Clarence:- Very caring person who tends to put her friends first. Moved into the neighborhood sometime around the beginning of high school. Tends to playfully tease Samantha (called Saige) bending the boundaries of 'friends with benefits'... Doesn't talk much about her family, but her father is a strict conservative bigot who condemns most all 'different' people to hell. Birthday; September 9th.
Samantha Elizabeth Saige Roberts:- Hates her first name with a passion and asks all her friends and the like to call her Saige, though refuses to say why. Her parents constantly get into fights that sometimes involve her having trips to the hospital to 'patch up' the usually minor, sometimes major cuts and bruises she'll get. She drowns herself in her art writing and music as best as she can to drown the noise, but that usually doesn't work as well as Amanda's distractions.... Birthday; July 18th.
Angeli (Angi) Michelle Black:- Sister to Christopher* and friend to Amanda and Saige. Amanda has little trouble accepting basically anything that is thrown at her. Her views are simply, 'If it makes you happy, fine... But don't expect me to try any ridiculous experiment to appease your whims.' and she is pro love in every form and/or fashion. Her passion is helping people and animals volunteers at various shelters in her spare time. Birthday; June 20th
Christopher Ayden Black:- Brother to Angi and childhood friend to Saige. Hates school with a passion untold and would be caught by the deans and other teachers frequently cutting class to smoke, or in clubs. Hasn't been expelled yet simply because his parents donate large sums to the school and his sister is in the top five students on the honor roll. He tends to lean towards being a bad influence on Saige. Birthday; June 20th.
Robert James:- Most homophobic boy in the year. It is a standing joke among the lgbt community in the year group that he has unresolved issues with himself. Also has a reputation as being high in the gang of playboys in the school. (again i say, overcompensating)
read, enjoy, review XD

Monday morning was uneventful to a point. The morning was normal (Amanda left for home Sunday evening), got up at around five, bathed, dressed, left the house and went to a local bakery for breakfast. (A muffin and some hot chocolate) Went to school after and sat down in one of the more hidden alcoves, used by people who want to have a quiet place, until the bell rang for the start of first period. I went through my classes routinely, pausing to insult only one teacher on his lack of teaching ability, yet again, only to be sent out of the class, yet again… Can I help it that I don’t like English? Which leads me to lunch…
~~~~~
“Hey Saige.” Three voices called simultaneously while chairs dragged on the floor and trays were placed around me. “How are you?” Angeli asked as I looked up at them.
“Fine… Bored, and almost not looking forward to the art exhibition challenge…” I replied slowly. Amanda nudged my side, which nearly made me fall off my chair.
“Spazzing out again love?” Christopher chuckled as I gave them a death glare.
“You,” I said pointing at Amanda at my right “Don’t do that.” she smiled in a way that told me that I just gave her the reaction she wanted so I turned to Christopher who was across from me “And you. I am not your love.” he cringed and his sister laughed. At that point a crash was heard throughout the cafeteria. Everyone turned around to see the jocks overshadowing one of the other boys in the school.
“Hey… isn’t that Micheal?” Angeli asked. I craned my neck to see the lanky build of said Micheal James.
“Damn, I thought he got here before those asses.” I muttered, closing my eyes and lowered my head.
“You’re not wanted here faggot.” one of the jocks sneered, I heard a thud that sounded like Micheal had been pushed into something… hard.
“Damien is such an ass.” I heard Amanda mutter next to me “Where are those cafeteria ladies when you actually need them?” Christopher gave a dry laugh and I looked up as Micheal colleted a fist in his gut by one, and another fist in his face by another so that he crumpled to the floor. My grip on the side of the table vanished as they began to attack his almost unconscious form with no one going to his aid as usual, while I reached for my phone discreetly and began texting the only person in this entire school who would do something about this ongoing insanity…
Not soon enough, Ms Thornrush walked in with the coach who, under her watchful eye, reprimanded the boys for their behavior. As they left, (coach carried Micheal to the nurse) Angi nudged my foot “How do you always manage to get her to come here so fast?”
“I text ‘911’ she knows what it means.” I replied shrugging. Christopher looked at me curiously, and I knew why. He was the only person in this group I had not actually told my relation to our dear principal, and I wasn’t planning to anytime soon seeing as he had a bad habit of gossiping more than any female I knew.
“That little jock incident aside, I know for a fact that Robert is going to come after you sometime this week again.” Amanda paled before saying defiantly
“I am going to be busy studying for the rest of the time I am in this school. Amanda is going to be celibate.” I choked on the orange juice I was just sipping as my mind flashed to what we did just Saturday and failed to fully suppress a laugh. Angeli and Christopher raised eyebrows and I lost it completely…
~~~~
Walking around the park was always nice. Especially when there aren’t a lot of people in it. No prying eyes, no disapproving looks. But there were always the nice ones who didn’t actually judge who you were by who your friends were or how you acted around each other. Today I saw one couple I spoke with from a distance, Elizabeth and Meyer, mainly because I wasn’t in the mood to talk. My mind was instead replaying the incident after lunch as I waited for the sun to get lower in the sky.
~~~~~~
“Why does that bitch always get in our way when we’re teaching those fuckers their place in the world?” It was gym, and everyone was already on the courts dividing into teams while I laced my sneakers properly at the side of the bleachers. I recognized the next voice as he spoke
“I don’t know, but it’s always when the getting’s good.” I rolled my eyes inwardly as Damien continued “Besides, it’s not like anyone’s really gonna stop us next time.” I grit my teeth and forced myself to stay silent. For the moment at least…
As soon as everyone was ready and in teams we got to opposite sides of the gymnasium, preparing to knock each other’s brains out with the dodge-balls. “Eyes on the prize guys!!!” Damien shouted
“Dude, it’s just a game.” someone else cried out as the balls began to fly from his end. A ball came out of bounds and at my feet when a wicked thought crossed my mind. I glanced over to coach, making sure he was distracted enough not to see my plan and kicked the ball with as much force as I could muster into the softest part of Damien’s body and resumed my innocent posing while all the rest of the male groaned in sympathy as he doubled over clutching his groin. “My god…” Lenora was sitting near enough to me that I could hear her voice as she chuckled “Did anyone see who did that? I must thank him.” The game had to be put on hold as Damien was lead to the nurses office to be treated. By now more of the girls were chuckling at his misfortune while some of the males on the opposing team started to look smug…
~~~~~
I felt a soft hand on my shoulder drawing my mind away from within itself and I looked up to see Elizabeth’s kind smiling face looking down on me. “Do you mind if I sit with you a while?” she asked before motioning to the bench she and her husband were sitting on, “Meyer decided to go indoors, but I wanted to stay awhile longer.” I nodded and shifted around, moving my bag and books, to give her some space to sit. “So what were you think about so deeply?” she inquired looking into the lake.
“Just school…” I replied a little too quickly. She arched her eyebrow at me tilting her head in such a way the remaining sunlight hit her eyes to highlight the gold in it.
“Anything you want to talk about?” I clenched my teeth together and looked at her trying to size her up (failing miserably too I might add).
“What would you want to know?” I asked finally. “School is pretty boring you know.”
“Nothing could be so boring that you wouldn’t notice people getting up and walking towards you.” she countered.
“Some jocks were picking on someone today.” I said slowly
“Let me guess, he was different.” I nodded “And they don’t like different.” I nodded again. She gave me a look “What did you do?”
“Well… we had dodge ball today…” she closed her eyes
“Violence with violence Sam?” I smiled. When she opened her eyes again I nodded and grinned my trademark ‘It’s already been done, so there’ grin. “You weren’t caught at least?”
“Nope. To this second I think they think one of the guys did it to spite him.” she laughed just as my phone alarm went off and I looked at my watch and sighed. “It’s time for you to leave so soon.”
“As they say, parting is such sweet sorrow.” I said in my best theatre voice as I got up, my mood lighter than usual at the prospect of going home.
“Tell you’re parents I said hi.” I nodded silently wondering how sober they were today. She stood and my a hand on my arm before walking off…
~~~~
My parents were not sober enough, and my timing could not have been much worse than it was today. Dad had just yelled at mom at what a failure of a cook she was as I walked into the hallway. I froze unsure as to which would be worse; to stay in the hall until the fight died down somewhat and risk being labeled as coming home too late, or risk a crossfire attack by dashing past the open door where the voices rose to get to my room… Mom was yelling at him now, and I figured I might as well risk it… Just as dad decided to lob one of the pots through the door… Great…
I was glad for one thing. The clothes I was wearing that day were not my favorite, because I was never going to be able to wear them any more. I sighed as I lowered my body further in the near freezing water to try to keep my skin from blistering. A knock came at my door and I figured it was my mom coming to check up on me again. “It’s open!” I called out, pulling my body out of the tub just a little. She walked in with a small tub of burn cream and gauze.
“I’m so sorry this happened to you hunnie.” she murmured as she saw the redness across my left arm and stomach. I gave her a small smile as she put everything near the sink “Come to me if you need help with the bandaging okay?” I nodded and she left. I bit my lower lip and hoped that I wouldn’t blister too badly…
