Chapter 5
For some reason this chapter seems not so smooth and a little disjointed to me. It continues to be fluffy so I hope you like!
If Like Repels Like, Do Opposites Attract?: Chapter 5
xxxxxx
In the couple hours before dinner, Sam’s mind was preoccupied with thoughts concerning his new friends. He felt like he was missing something, like he had all the pieces of a puzzle but couldn’t figure out how the pieces fit together to see the big picture.
He had mixed feelings about this dinner. So far he liked Alyssa, Chad, and Todd, but he really didn’t know them that personally himself, and now they were all coming to dinner to meet his family.
And his parents thought he was dating Chad.
He could imagine that getting awkward fast, especially if Todd dropped his usual jokes about Chad liking him.
He tried to distract himself and focus on homework, but didn’t get much accomplished before the doorbell began ringing with guests.
He descended the stairs to see Chad standing in the doorway being enthusiastically greeted by his mother. He looked kind of dressed up again and as Sam stepped closer he could smell spicy-sweet cologne.
Chad smiled when he saw him saying a simple, “Hey Sam,” in greeting.
“Hey.” Sam felt uncomfortable already.
“How about you boys wait in the living room and chat until dinner’s ready?” His mom suggested.
They both retreated to the living room and sat on the couch together.
“So, um…thanks for coming,” Sam felt extremely awkward. It didn’t help that Chad seemed nervous too and was fidgeting.
“Yeah. It’s cool your parents invited us over for dinner.”
“Really? I feel so lame, like my parents think I’m 5 or something.”
Chad shook his head. “Nah. They just care about you and want to know your friends.”
Sam smiled at him, Chad grinning back until Todd and Alyssa’s entrance broke the moment.
“Hey so it’s the meet the parents dinner. That’s such a big step for you two,” Todd slung his arm over Chad’s shoulder as he plopped himself next to him on the couch.
“Well, since you guys are here too it doesn’t quite have the same meaning,” Sam countered the logic of the joke.
“Please, you two just need to admit your homosexual love for one another and get it all over with.” Todd threw back at him.
From the doorway, Sam’s father cleared his throat. “Dinner will be ready in five minutes,” was all he said before walking away.
Oh damn it. Did he hear that?
Did he realize that it was a joke?
“Thanks Todd. Now dinner won’t be awkward at all,” Sam sarcastically commented. He knew now it would be awkward for him times one hundred.
Alyssa put a comforting hand on his shoulder, rubbing gently. “It’ll be okay,” she whispered.
Todd muttered an apology and Chad just looked uncomfortable, not meeting his gaze.
“Okay,” Sam sighed. “Let’s get this over with.”
Luckily, Sam’s premonitions for the night didn’t entirely come true. The strange smile his mom had on her face every time she looked in Chad’s direction was luckily the only true weirdness.
Sam’s parents luckily weren’t too embarrassing. They mainly spoke about school, sports, and regular parent conversation topics. Sam was actually surprised by how undamaging the whole experience was.
At the end of the meal, Alyssa and Todd left first. Chad was talking with Sam’s dad about basketball so he lingered.
When Chad finally went to make his exit, Sam’s mom captured him in a hug, gushing about how he could come over anytime. He was blushing as he said goodbye.
Sam turned and his mom stopped him.
“Sam honey…”
“I’m going to my room. I have homework to finish.” He quickly made his exit.

The next day, Sam woke feeling refreshed and ready for whatever would happen at school. He was over his awkward feelings from the previous night and felt brand new.
His eye was a lot less sensitive, so he was able to put on eyeliner for the first time in a week. Without eyeliner he had felt a little naked so he was glad to achieve his normal look again.
Sam got to his art class early. Chad was already there and approached when he saw Sam.
“Hey, your eyes look nice today,” Chad complimented, his hand reaching out, fingertips brushing the edge of Sam’s hair, as if to emphasize his words.
Sam was surprised by the comment and actions. “Thanks,” he muttered flushing a little. He wasn’t used to receiving compliments from guys, especially about his appearance. It gave him a warm feeling inside. It was kind of nice.
Chad was smiling. “So…am I ever gonna see that picture of me you’re drawing?”
“Nope. Not until it’s done.”
“Not even a peek?”
“It’s my best caricature,” Sam attempted a straight face, but ended up giggling a little.
Chad laughed. He leaned in and was playfully trying to see into Sam’s portfolio.
“Mr. Murphy, if you could disrobe, we need to get you ready,” Ms. Rosenburg cut into their teasing banter.
Chad winked at Sam as he pulled his shirt over his head and moved to the center of the room to position himself.
Sam tried not to follow Chad with his eyes. He was pleasantly surprised by how affectionate Chad was being. They had been becoming better friends, but Sam hadn’t really expected Chad to be so…well, flirty. He had always thought of the other boy as a quiet, serious, sporty, masculine type. He was glad that Chad seemed comfortable enough with him to joke and reveal more of his personality.
As the rest of the class settled in, Sam focused on his artwork.

After classes were done for the day, Sam went to the art room to work on his portrait. He was actually pretty inspired by Chad modeling. Chad had a nice body and was very aware of it and how to pose surprisingly well for the class.
Ms. Rosenburg came and observed him working for a bit. “That’s coming along well.”
“Thank you.”
“I’ve been so pleased with his modeling. The first class, he seemed shy and I wondered if he could handle it without appearing uncomfortable. But he’s relaxed considerably. I’ve been very happy with him so far,” Ms. Rosenburg gushingly spoke about Chad.
Sam grinned. “Yeah I think so too. I really like drawing him.”
“And you have access to him outside of class so that must help. I know how much attention you spend on details.”
“Oh, I hadn’t thought to ask for him to pose outside of class. I‘m not sure if he would.”
Ms. Rosenburg looked puzzled. “Aren’t you friends? He appears to have affection for you.”
“Well, we are newer friends. I don’t know if he would.” Sam could feel himself blushing at the ‘affection’ comment.
Ms. Rosenburg smiled knowingly. “I think he would if you asked him.”

After working on his art, Sam went to the gym to meet Chad. The basketball practice was over with and the players were filing out of the locker room.
Todd was talking to a team mate when he saw Sam. He beamed, clapping a hand on Sam’s shoulder in greeting, “Hey Sammy! Chad’s in the locker room finishing up. You should go in and meet him.”
“Okay.”
Sam went in and was faced with the sight of a damp Chad dropping his towel.
Sam’s jaw dropped open. It seemed that Todd didn’t elaborate about Chad’s penis. Sam couldn’t take his eyes off of it. Maybe he was a secret size queen. He hadn’t had enough experience to know one way or the other, but the sight of Chad’s body…it was hot.
He must have made some sort of noise because it drew Chad’s attention to where he was standing and staring.
“Sammy!” He sort of yelped, scrambling to grab his towel and cover up.
“I’m sorry,” Sam apologized, but it sounded insincere even to his own ears. He was still kind of in a daze. Wow, one glimpse of cock and he turned into a speechless idiot.
Chad was blushing all over.
Sam was still staring.
“Ummm I want to get some clothes on,” Chad stated.
“Okay.”
“Could you um…turn around please?”
“Huh? Oh yeah, um…yeah,” Sam turned around, listening to the sound of rustling fabric.
“Okay, ready to go?”
Sam faced Chad again. “Let’s go.”

The ride home was a little tense, that could be because Sam was picturing Chad naked. He couldn’t seem to get the image out of his head. He felt as if whenever he looked at Chad, his eyes were automatically drawn to Chad’s crotch.
Who knew that behind those silky basketball shorts lay a porn star dick?
Chad seemed to notice that Sam was staring and pulled over the truck.
“Sam, um…I feel really embarrassed right now,” Chad admitted.
“Oh no! You shouldn’t be embarrassed! I’m sorry I keep staring. It’s just…you’re…” Sam trailed off. What could he say? I think you have a hot body?
Chad was turning redder.
“I don’t mean to make you feel weird,” Sam tried to make Chad feel better.
“It’s okay Sam,” Chad shifted in his seat. In that moment he seemed so shy and reminded Sam of a little boy. A thought hit Sam…
“Do you think you’re not hot? Is that why you’re so embarrassed?” Sam blurted out.
Chad avoided Sam’s gaze. “I like my body.”
“Then what?”
“Did you like my body?” Chad asked.
Oh…Sam felt his stomach sink. Was Chad uncomfortable about him being gay? He hadn’t thought that Chad had a problem with it after helping him and being his friend.
Sam decided to answer honestly. “Well…you’re hot. You have a nice body,” he awkwardly complimented.
Chad’s eyes met Sam’s. “You think so?”
Sam nodded.
Chad smiled a little and turned the truck back on the road.
The air seemed less tense as Chad drove him home.

Well, not sure. I want to progress their relationship a little but I’m not sure if the pacing is okay. Let me know what you think! Thanks!
