Roommate

Title: The Time is up

Author: madlodger

A/N: The chapters seem to be growing in length. The story demands that, of course. On another hand, I hope that someone'll let me know if I get too wordy. My review board is the most laid-back ever, you can't go wrong there - unless you are insulting my character in all caps, of course. Other than that anything goes.

Many thanks to Lisa for pointing out typos. Typos are a curse, I swear :) The roommate is in this chappie.

kylee - Completely agree; I was fortunate to taste butter made old-fashioned way from unprosessed milk. There is no comparison to any other kind, especially butter substitutes. Evan likes to cook, so he knows his butter.

Chapter 5

Evan tip-toed along the dark, empty hallway, wearing nothing but a towel around his hips and a uPen on a string around his neck. The hallway was dark and creepy; the only visible light came from glowing amber door numbers and white dots of penholes on the side of each door. The boy opened 217A, walked in and hurriedly shut the door.

Fresh morning air from the open window, and a faint smell from cleaning solutions was a vast improvement on the formerly stale dorm air. In the past two hours the tiny room was cleaned top to bottom, walls and floors, both mattresses disinfected with Bugsy cleaning foam and the fridge and cabinets scrubbed squeaky clean. Evan's new coffee maker, miniature oven, and a double burner electric hot plate took up half of the counter space. His supply of cereals and canned goods was locked in the large plastic storage box on tiny wheels, placed under the bed.

Only one thing remained to be done.

Yawning, Evan put the thick quilted mattress pad onto the mattress and tucked a fitted sheet around it. The comforter and pillows followed. They were a dark navy color with pretty silver stars.

The tired boy stepped back, looking at the results of his hard work in the dim, early morning light. He felt immense satisfaction. All reminders of past occupants were erased and his own things clearly marked the space as his own. The new bedding was the fist one he had ever chosen and purchased himself; there were no tiny pink flowers on it like on his old one at home. No, this bed was clearly a man's bed.

It was beckoning Evan to rest his tired body in the cushy softness...

Evan stretched out on top of starry comforter and closed his eyes. His body sunk into the welcoming embrace of soft material that felt like a cloud. Evan's naked skin tingled everywhere his comforter was in contact and the boy nearly purred. His sleepy mind drifted to more enjoyable thoughts. There were just over twenty thousand students in Mills. Surely one of them could be interested in him. A really great guy with muscles and a nice smile. They would meet each other accidentally and fall in love. There would be a magical spiritual connection and a lot of wild sex. They'd be so into each other that they would end up swapping the dorm spots to live in the same room.

Or maybe, his roommate would be that perfect guy! That would be so great.

Evan imagined that his new roommate has already arrived. Here he was, tip-toeing towards Evan's prone body. He would kiss him on the lips ever so gently...

Evan's skin was cooling off and body becoming heavier and heavier. He had fallen asleep with a small smile and a right hand resting on the damp towel between his legs.

There was a horde of wild horses galloping in the fog. They were laughing and shouting to each other... Talking horses, how strange...

He woke up and opened his eyes only to gasp from shock. A strange guy was staring into his eyes almost nose to nose, his hot breath fanning Evan's face. Evan has lain still for a few seconds, paralyzed and uncomprehending, before remembering where he was. A moment later, the stranger straightened his back, removing his face from Evan's and Evan scrambled to sit up against his headboard. His towel had fallen off in the process and the boy quickly grabbed it and covered his exposed middle.

He raised his eyes and caught the new guy staring at his body.

'Oh, god, how much had he seen?'

Evan trembled a little. The guy's gray eyes met his again and Evan's face flashed from embarrassment.

The birds were loudly chirping outside.

The students were stomping in the hallway, shouting and laughing.

"I am Jakobee Jackson, your roommate," the new guy said in the polite, cultured voice and extended his hand for a handshake.

Evan unclenched his right hand from the towel, which started sliding off his hips and had to be immediately held by his left one.

Jakobee's eyes flicked to Evan's middle and back in a flash and Evan blushed even hotter, finally shaking his roommates hand. The hand was narrow and bony and a bit cold.

"Evan Elright," said Evan in a small voice, "Um, welcome to the dorms."

"I definitely feel welcome." Jakobee leered at Evan a little, before letting him off the hook, stepping away from the bed and turning around to look at the kitchenette.

Evan jumped from his bed fast as lightening. His clean clothes were in the backpack under his bed and he dropped to his knees to get it. The towel had fallen off completely and his naked ass was on display.

'Don't turn around; don't turn around;'

"Wow, is that an oven? Oh, man we have a coffee maker too! I'd kill for a cup of coffee right now!"

Evan jumped into his undies and jeans, pulling a zipper up so fast that it almost ripped.

"And a hot plate! We can cook breakfast before classes."

Jakobee turned to look at Evan just a second after the boy pulled on his slightly wrinkled, oversized tee shirt. The two boys sized each other up for a few seconds.

Jakobee was a bit taller than Evan. He had a thin bony body and overgrown dark blond hair. He hunched over a little, like someone who spent a lot of time studying and not enough exercising. His face wasn't particularly attractive, but not ugly either and a couple of pimples graced his long chin.

Evan's heart started slowing down and a feeling of disappointment washed over him. So much for his fantasies... The roommate definitely was not a boyfriend material. And what was that 'we' he kept referring to - twice? All appliances had 'Evan, 217A' burned into the front with a soldering stick. Not 'Evan and Jakobee'.

"Jakobee... "

"Jake."

"Sure, Jake" Evan came over and started loading the coffee maker with two tablespoons of ground coffee from a huge brown can and filtered water from a two gallon jug, "The water is really bad here, so..." he pressed the green 'ON' button and turned to face Jake, "...it would be cool if you got us a water filter. Two micron at least. I don't mind sharing my things, but my funds are running pretty low already."

"I'll get that, no prob," Jake straightened his stooped back to appear bigger and more mature. His hair fall away from his face revealing how young he really was. No older than Evan himself, and in no need to shave off the peach fuzz on his chin just yet, "You are welcome to share my things too."

"Things?"

"Things."

Jake waggled his eyebrows suggestively and pointed towards his bed. He brought a lot of luggage; much more than Evan's modest single backpack. There were new pillows, a backpack and what looked like a large board wrapped in paper on the bed, and a two large black suitcases on the floor.

Evan helped Jake to unwrap the mysterious board. The board was an actual real wooden board with plastic looking surface glued on top. It was about three feet wide and five feet long and both long sides looked as if they were hacked off with a saw. Evan's mind jumped to the Fat Dingo's Bar & Grill.

"No way, this can't be..."

"Oh yes it is!"

"Where did you get it?"

"Salvaged from a building. They were going to take down this old hotel with a restaurant in it, so anyone was allowed to take what they wanted. This one guy loaded a small truck with these counters. He wanted all of them, but I insisted he'll share. I am sure he is cutting them up and selling them on eShore or something." Jake gave out his best pirate smile and Evan secretly thought that the guy in question probably felt sorry for Jake and let him have a board. Jake just wasn't scary enough to intimidate anyone.

Jake had a toolbox with various tools and Evan's jaw dropped when his roommate started drilling into a wall above his bed. He made a large hole, checked the distance with a tape measure and started drilling another.

"Um, Jake, we are not supposed to cause damage in the dorm..."

Jake stopped for a minute and considered that question. "Naw, we are just settling in, not causing damage. The damage would be like making a dent or a big old scratch, right?"

Evan shrugged and went along with events. The holes were already drilled anyway. In no time at all the board was hanging above Jake's bed on four metal brackets. Jake connected purple and pink wires sticking out on the side of the board to the purple and pink wires connected to an electrical plug, wrapped black electrical tape around it and plugged in. A touch of Jake's uPen and the board came alive. He found the dance channel and turned the sound up. Half nude guys and girls covered in glo-paint were dancing like there was no tomorrow, and a hot trio of Asian teen boys were belting out an incredible catchy tune.

In a few minutes people were knocking at the door. The first guy to enter whooped and run out, returning with a friend and a six pack of beer a few minutes later. More people filled the room, bringing more alcohol and snack foods with them. Jake's things were shoved under the desk by the window and the students were dancing, drinking and sitting on the beds in no time. The music was turned up a few times.

Evan got tipsy from one bottle of beer and attached himself to a coffee maker, putting out cups of coffee for the guests one after another. He couldn't figure out why he bought a coffee maker with only a two cup capacity. People kept dancing in front of him. Two adorable drunken twin girls with blond pig tails flirted with him mercilessly, making the boy blush hot crimson.

"Hey, we are from 217B! This is destiny, it has to be! Wanna hook up?" The girls giggled madly when Evan fumbled, spilling some coffee grounds on the floor.

Evan looked around in desperation. Jake caught his expression, raised his eyebrows and came over, still gyrating his hips to the beat and holding an open beer bottle.

"Did I hear that right? You are from 217B?"

"Oh yay-yay!"

"I am from a 217A! Do you know what an 'A' stands for?"

"'A' lots of fun!"

"Close enough, it stands for 'an alpha male'"

The girls bent over double giggling at Jake and the three of them started dancing together and flirting, forgetting about Evan.

Evan looked around. Out of all people at the party there was one good looking tall guy, but he was ogling the twins and trying to get in on a chat with them. Evan sighed. Here it was, his first student party.

And no one at the party was a boyfriend material.
