Chapter 3 pt. 3
Hello people! Okay so i finally figured out how to open reviews to everyone so...yea please review after you read. I love to hear feedback and constructive criticism! Thanks guys! Enjoy!
Running down the back stairs she hurled her body through the glass doors that led outside and down the another flight of stairs. The night air was muggy and thick , a little too warm for a september night in Nashville but since it had rained earlier in the day the extra humidity had cooled the temp, but it still felt twice as hot. Still running Legend did her best to keep off the road, the last thing she needed was to get hit by a car. Making a right and running past the freshmen dorms, she felt a little safer, there were students smoking outside of the building. Hopefully someone she knew would be out and shed be able to ask for a ride to her apartment.
She cursed softly when she only saw unfamiliar faces among the smokers and she continued to run. No one spared her a second glance, running wasn\'t seen as anything unusual, especially since there was no one chasing her and she wasn\'t screaming. Even if she had been, they probably wouldn\'t have helped anyway. A girl had been raped and beaten half to death in the freshmen dorm and no one had tried to help her. The residents on both sides of her room had been home, but neither had called anyone for help. They’d ignored her screams.
By the time she’d reached the parking lot at the edge of campus Legend’s lungs were on fire, she felt as if she couldn\'t get enough air into her lungs even though she was literally gasping so hard her chest was caving in. She had to sit down, but she knew this wasn\'t the right place. A few more steps and she knew that if she didn\'t do something she’d blackout. Luckily she saw a bus stop and slowly walking over to it she threw her purse down and began to search for her inhaler. She kept her legs moving, marching in place, because she knew that if she slowed her heart slowly her lungs would eventually follow.
“Where is it?”
Dumping all the contents of her purse out onto the bench she searched for the inhaler. It had to be there, she didn\'t know what she would do if it wasn’t. She sighed in relief when she found it. Gripping it in already trembling hands she shook it and quickly brought it to her mouth. Pressing the canister in the unit she inhaled the cold steroid and held it in, letting the Albuterol do it’s job. She could almost feel the medicine loosening the inflammation and relaxing the constricted airways. Another puff and she was finally breathing deeply again, although her heart was racing again and her limbs were trembling again. The steroids always made her heart race and her body shake. Reclining her head back on the bench she was finally able to let her muscles relax.
Sitting with the contents of her purse scattered around her, Legend sighed and got up to pick up her belongings. She smiled and thought of the look that would have been on her foster mother’s face at the mess she’d made. Regina had worked in wealthy families houses, cleaning and taking care of the children, and when she got home she did the exact same thing. She took care of her daughter and foster children. There wasnt a day that went by that she didnt clean something. Scooping up her wallet and lipgloss, dumping pencils and her phone into her purse, Legend bent down to retirieve her ipod. She was crouched under the bench with the mp3 player in her hand when she heard it.
If she hadnt heard the raspy gasps from behind her before she would have thought someone else was having trouble breathing. But that wasn’t the case. There was only one thing that made that sound when it breathed, a seeker. They were lecherous beasts that lived on the blood and essence of their victims. Formally thought to be vampiric, seekers only used the blood as a conduit to siphen the victim’s will to live. That’s why most of the people who have been fed from were never considered to have survived. They usually died soon after, bacuse they simply didnt care enough to continue living.
Scrambling from the ground Legend turned and stared up at the face of the largest seeker she’d ever come in contact with, let alone heard of. He was tall, broad shouldered and hungry. Legend could see the thirst in his eyes, the longing made her take a step back, which he of course only followed. Once they set their eyes on their victim, only death would stop them from following through. She couldnt just let him have her, she had to run.
“Lord help me.” Legend whimpered, before she turned tail and ran as fast as she could in the other direction. She could feel his presence right behind her, but she couldnt look back, she wouldnt slow down, not unless she collapsed. Still running LEgend cound herself right behind the closed freshman dorm, the one that was empty due to renovations. Great.
Suddenly she was roughly grabbed and pushed up against the side of the building. Her back getting bruised and acratched from the brick.
“Oh god” was the only thing she could say when he leaned toward her throat and sank his teeth inside. She felt a strange tug from behind her belly before her vision blurred and went black.
Angel scanned the dining rooms carefully, since he’d put his sunglasses on he could change his eyes so that he could see much more efficently, without worrying about someone noticing the blue glow in his eyes. Sweeping through all the conversations thanks to his better than normal hearing ( he didnt need to change his ears because they’re hearing transcended through both forms). Looking past the groups eating he concentrated on the wait staff. One of them was bound to know who she was and where he could find her.
He saw the tall blonde that had been waiting on them with her, but he immediately dismissed her. She had made it impossible to miss the fact that she didnt like the girl and she did a horrible job of hiding that from the rest of the customers. Not to mention she’d had a lustful hunger in her eyes that reminded him of Nnena. He’d stay as far away from her as possible.
Glancing back at the table where they’d eaten he watched a boy with the strangest coloring he’d ever seen. His golden skin contrasted pecularly with his curly white hair. He watched as the boy began to pick up the dishes and carefully balance them on his way toward what he assumed was the kitchen. He followed slowly, but stopped when he saw that the door had a window. He slowly creeped closer and tried to get a direct view of the occupants of the kitchen, but there were so many people standing in his line of vision. His eyes were beginning to ache, because he’d kept them in their wolf form for so long but he wouldnt change them back until he saw her.
When someone bumped into him he had to bite his tongue to keep from growling. He quickly moved away from the group of people getting up from their table, but in doing so he lost his view inside of the kitchen. He swore under his breath and shifted his eyes back. The pain in his head from holding the change was getting to be distracting. He slowly began to make his way toward the back of the room and he began to be able to hear the conversation that was going on inside. He couldnt quite make it out because of so many other conversations going on around him but as he got closer he was more able to concentrate and center in on the kitchen’s occupants.
“Whoa” he heard when he made eye contact with the boy.
He could feel his chest constirict painfully when he heard her voice, the panic it contained. She was afraid. Afraid of him? Why? He heard her say that she was leaving and he quickened his pace, which wasnt the easiest thing to do when your in a small crowded room filled with tables and chairs. Reaching for the dooor, he hurled himself through and almost hit the fair haired man with the door.
“Where is she?”
“Who?”
“The girl.” He looked meaningfully at the young man.
“Why? What exactly do you want with her?”
“That’s not your concern, human”
“None of our-” He turned when he heard the loud instantly obnoxiously high pitched voice of the woman to his right. “Look her Mr. Too Sexy To Be Straight guy, you better leave our best friend alone. I dont take kindly to people scaring Legend. Now you tell me what you want from her.”
Angel had to bite the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing at the intense frown on her face. The amount of manace that the little human was able to insert in her speech instantly made him think of Kane, Issac;s second and the head of security. Her tone ov voice was must be very useful in deterring people, but he lucilly he was of a diffrent breed.
“I do not wish to hurt your friend, if that’s what you are concerned about-”
“Better fucking not” She interrupted him, scowling.
“But i need to find her. I have to find her. She’s been-” He paused, “with me for a while, and i just...” He frowned thoughtfully.
“She just ran out the door, but she’s probably headed for her apartment right now. It’s out that door and take a right, she lives in Gracy 212.”
“Ceddrick!”
“What?” he answered in false bewildermant, but that was all Angel heard as he was already outside and running down the steps to the outside.
---
Running through the grounds of the campus had been exhilarating. Following her scent had been a joy he hadnt allowed himself in so long. Since he’d been trying to aclimate himself with humans he had been forced to supress some of his baser instincts, and the hunt was one of them. Letting his legs take him wherever his nose told him made him exceedingly happy. However when he’d reached her, and seen the seeker crouched over her body laying there passed out something inside him had broken. He wasnt aware of what he was doing, he’d only honestly come back to himself when he found both the girl and himself on the floor by the bed in his hotel room.
His breathing was labored, as he took in her scent. Gasping great lungfulls he couldnt seem to get enough. He held onto her tightly until he could get a grip on his racing heart. He’d never had his wolf take over his body before and it was scary, like i think i need a new pair of shorts scary. Looking down at the limp body that rested in his lap, Angel’s lungs expelled air so rapidly he almost choaked.
She was beautiful. Legend, he’d heard her friend refer to her, it fit. She had cool, olive skin, slightly sunkissed as if she’d spent the majority of her day outside basking in the sun. Her hair was long and thick, black and mostly straight but you could see the curls breaking through. He brushed a lock of her hair from her face and smiled, it was as soft as he’d imagined.
“Ang?”
Angel’s head snapped up so quickly that if he’d been human he surely would have given himself whiplash. He watched with wide eyes as the door to his suite crept open and Donovan’s head poked through. He let out the breath he wasnt aware he was holding and raised a shaking hand to brush his own jet black hair from his face.
“What the fuck happened to you? And- and who, is that the GIRL!” Donovan asked, still standing half way in the hallway.
“Shhh! Get in here and close the fucking door!” Angel hissed, glaring at his cousin. Don smiled sheepishly, came in and closed the door quietly behind him. Walking into the room, Donovan’s eyes widened at the sight of his cousin sprawled out on the floor with an unconcious girl laying on him. His nostrils flared, she smelled good, too good for a human.
“Stop staring and help me up.”
Donovan walked over and scooped Legend up and gently lay her on the bed. He spread her hair put over the pillow and looked at her. Angel pulled himself up with Don’s help and looked down at her too. For some reason he was very drawn to her. His wolf obviously cared whether she lived or died since it had taken over and saved her from the seeker without having him present. That in itself was very significant because the wolf didnt care if anyone lived or died anymore.
Running down the back stairs she hurled her body through the glass doors that led outside and down the another flight of stairs.
