Four
It happened again today for the first time in almost four months. It was different this time though, in that he showed up at my door, rather than I showed up at his. I let him in the moment he got here, and brought him upstairs.
He sat down on the bed with that blank, empty look that we were growing accustomed to seeing on him. It left me totally unprepared. The second I shut the door he was already in front of me again, looking down into my eyes. I could see that they were still broken, but he was trying to suppress that side of himself now, rather than live in it.
Caleb was at work, so it was just Vince and I, though I was sure that Vince had planned it that way . The muted look in his eyes made me sure of it. I knew that look, even if he was still too broken to be able to project it as fully as before.
"I just…" he started, but he couldn't get anymore out.
I held a finger to his lips, locking the door. He knew I understood.
This time it was different.
He put his hands gently on my hips, leaning his forehead against mine and closing his eyes. Knowing where this was going, I wrapped my arms up around his neck, hesitating only for a moment. We stood like that for who knows how long; unmoving. Then he did the one thing that he had never done first; he kissed me.
I moaned lightly into the kiss. He pressed himself up against me, his hands running up and down my sides.
Then suddenly he picked me up and threw me onto the bed.
It scared me.
What if this was his demon coming out, finally, after months of pain?
He pounced on top of me, just like always, always the same.
Then I stared into his eyes, the fear in mine reflecting ever-so-slightly off his.
I stared into his dark, dark eyes. Eyes full of pain, lust, and love (though not for me, I knew).
But through all the pain I saw in them, they were still human. No flickers of red or gold or silver. Just him. Just Vince.
I let him take me.
