Our Song

Hey readers! Thanks so much for all of the reviews and ratings, you\'ve encouraged me to update a little sooner than I orginally planned. It\'s a little shorter than the last chapter, but I hope you\'ll still enjoy it! Thanks again for reading!

Our song is the slamming screen door,

Sneakin\' out late, tapping on your window

When we\'re on the phone and you talk real slow

Cause it\'s late and your mama don\'t know

Our song is the way you laugh

The first date "man, I didn\'t kiss her, and I should have"

And when I got home ... before I said amen

Asking God if he could play it again

"Nooo waaaay," Jesse groaned. He shifted in his bed so he could see the glowing red numbers on the alarm clock. 6:34. No way was it only six-thirty in the morning and no way was he waking up to Taylor Swift blaring in the room next door. He slid his bare legs off to the side of the bed and slowly lifted up the rest of his body. He looked down at himself, only a pair of tight briefs covered his body. He thought he should put on some more clothes, but he was too lazy to dig for a pair of shorts in his bags and he figured Nicole had seen guys in just underwear before. Plus, if she had enough nerve to blast Taylor Swift this early in the morning, then he had enough nerve to walk around with minimum clothing on he thought to himself.

He made his way to the bathroom door half asleep and shuttered his eyes when the bright lights hit his face. When he finally adjusted to the lighting, he could see Nicole in her room looking indecisevly at two different tank tops.

"Emm," he coughed as he made his way closer to her end of the bathroom, she looked up and blushed when she saw his lack of clothing. "Think you could turn your music down?" He asked in a scratchy voice.

"What?" She shouted over the music, trying to keep her eyes from trailing down his body.

"The music, could you turn it down?" He said a little louder, "I like Taylor Swift but not this early in the morning."

"Ooh yeah, sorry I\'m not used to having anyone in that room," She said, a little embarassed.

"Thank you," he said as he began to turn around. He stopped for a second and looked back at her, "the green one," he pointed at the shirt in her left hand, and then he was gone.

"He seems very nice but I\'m worried about his influence on Travis," Ray Blanchard said to his wife. They were standing in their kitchen, cups of coffee clasped between both of their hands. Ray was dressed in his usual jeans and t-shirt with an old, ripped baseball cap covering his graying black hair and shading his hazel eyes. He was one of those guys that you could tell was goodlooking in his day, but years of hardwork and little sleep had aged him quite a bit. His wife, Lynn Blanchard, was the same way. She still had the same blonde hair she\'d had since she was a little girl, the hair that both Travis and Nicole inherited, but a few wrinkles had appeared on her tan face and her body was not the skinny stick it had once been.

"What do you mean?" She asked, gently blowing on the warm beverage.

"The boys grown up with no parental supervision, he\'s used to partying whenever he wants and doing whatever he wants. I feel like Travis is going to be a lot lazier with him hanging around." He explained in a low voice.

"Now Ray, that\'s not fair to and you know it. Give both Jesse and Travis more credit than that. If Jesse wanted to party all summer and not do anything than he would have went to one of his houses in California or wherever. And you know your son well enough to know that he is not easily influenced by others. If he likes to party and is lazy, it\'s because he\'s used to college life, not because of another persons presence. Plus, Jesse told Travis how excited he was to work for you." She said in her same sweet voice.

"If you say so," he replied stubbornly, "I\'ll let them have their beauty sleep this morning, but their starting first thing tomorrow."

"Alright Ray, have a good day at work."

He nodded and headed towards the back door calling "Love you," before he opened it and headed towards the dock. He made his way to the boat he spent his day working in.

"He looked soo cute. His eyes were all scrunched up and his hair was ruffled from just getting out of bed. And he only had on a pair of briefs and his body looked like the body of one of those ripped musclemen on commercials for ab machines. And wait, it gets better, he told me to wear this shirt," Nicole bragged, tugging at her green tank top. She sat at her lunch table with a bunch of her girlfiriends plus some she didn\'t like all leaning in closely to listen to her story. They were all equally excited about the fact that Jesse Buchanan was staying in the home of one of their friends and they didn\'t mind that they were acting like a bunch of ten year olds girls.

"You\'re so lucky," one of the girls Amanda said in awe, "You got to live in the same house as Travis all your life and now Jesse Buchanan."

"Eww, my brother?" She frowned.

"Does Clark know that THE Jesse Buchanan is sleeping less than 50 feet away from you?" Cara asked with a grin.

"No he does not and I don\'t think it\'s that big of a deal," she responded, throwing Cara a dirty look.

"What\'s not a big deal?" A voice said behind her and then she felt thick arms wrapping around her torso.

"Nothing Clark," she said rudely, she was still mad at him for his lack of friendliness throughout the whole weekend.

"Can we talk," he whispered in her ear, his light brown hair rubbing against her cheek.

"I guess," she said, sliding back her chair and pushing off his arms. She stood up and half smiled at the girls before following him into the courtyard. He sat down and then grabbed her hands and pulled her down next to him on a bench.

"Look, this is really hard for me to say, but I want you to hear it from me before anyone else." He started before she even had a chance to say anything. Immediately, her mind started racing. This was not what she was anticipating. She was expecting an I\'m sorry I ditched you Friday and Saturday night and then rushed you off the phone on Sunday night, but she had no idea where he was going with this.

She was able to murmur an, "okay," while her mind raced trying to put things together.

"I was really drunk on Friday night..." he began to say and then paused, he looked like he was about to cry, "and we were fighting and I was at Billy\'s and everybody was paired off except for me." He began to trail off. "And..and Heather Miller was there and she was the only other person not paired off. And we started talking and then she started doing other things."

"What other things, Clark?" She asked in a shaky voice, trying her hardest to hold back tears, "did you have sex with her?"

"We...we kissed." He avoided her question.

"Clark, did.you.have.sex.with.her?" She said in a robotic tone.

"Yes," he finally muttered out after a long period of silence.

"And how about Saturday night? Did you ditch me to hang out with her again? Were you drunk and alone and the \'only one not paired off"" she mocked.

"Yes," he admitted, avoiding her glare. She got up in silence and yanked her hand away from his. She kept her composure as she walked back into the cafeteria and ignored his voice calling after her. She rushed into the bathroom and practically ran to the furthest stall. Still trying to hold back tears, she pulled her cell phone out of her back pocket and dialed home.

"Hi mom," she said in the calmest tone she could manage, "can you call me out of school early?"
