Sphynx attack
'We've lived with the stripedseths for along time. We learned where the good grass grew, and
how to watch for predators, taking turns keeping our heads up while the rest grazed.
Syrus and Labbu are teens now. I'm not sure if Labbu knows what he is or if he thinks he's one
of us. He does beleive that Syrus is his brother.
"Labbu." I approached him. "Do you know what you are."
"I don't look like brother." He looked at his hands for a moment. "I'm a monkey?"
"What the Taut is a monkey?" I felt as impatient as Tep.
"I heard that word from Gahie." Labbu answered.
"What language is he teaching you?" I asked.
"Naz I saw something big in the grass over the hillside." He warned me. "They have four legs
like you and big like Gahie, and they had no hooves or cloves."
"Paws?" I asked. "What about their teeth?"
"Sharp like the end of a branch."
"Oh no, Spynx's, they'll attack at sundown, run and tell the others, I'll warn Gahie."
It happened in a flash it seemed when the entire herd stampeded together, creating our own
earthquake. The Sphynx's came out of hiding and chased after stragglers including Labbu and
Syrus. The sphynx almost got him but Labbu wrapped his arms around the sphynx's neck and
twisted it until the sphynx stopped struggling.
"Labbu" I trotted over to him." Your lucky it's mane wasn't in full, if it were you may have
not had the strength to kill him."
"I had to do somthing, it almost got my brother." Labbu just realizing what he had done began
to shake. "Our people don't take lives Naz."
"Labbu, you are apart of our herd but not one of us, you are a horus, they are violent by
nature I'm afraid."
"I don't want to be a horus, I'm a seth a heart!" Labbu argued.
"Beleive what you want, but I hold more knowlege than anyone here, since poor Molasses seems
to be worn of her wit."
"Even if I am a horus, I belong with seths." Labbu bound off to his brother and played away the
troubles of earlier day. The stampede kept that night safe from predators.
"Tep." I went to council with the others. "Labbu is mature now, he may want to seek a mate soon
but I haven't seen any others around."
"That could be a problem." Tep said.
"Male without a mate may become violent." Said Geb.
"And you did say the horus were violent in nature." Wennet made a good point.
"Tommarow we should find him a mate and possibly a clan of horus he can stay with."
"Oh." Molasses was down.
"He can't stay with us forever." Red said."Every creature needs to be with its own."
"We don't need him getting confused." Tep said.
"That'll be the day when a horus mounts a seth, it's just unethical." Red snorted in disqust.
"I know where they nest." Gahie spoke up. "He like them fine, they just darker skin and fur."
"How far away are they." I asked.
"No far, but kill us for food, Labbu at home with barbarians." Gahie shook his great mane.
"We stay hidden."
"Do we all have to go?" Red asked.
"The whole herd will say good by." Tep demanded.
"You just like when he scratches your ears." Red accused.
"So do you." Tep spit at him.
