Chapter 4

Edward paced back and forth inside the kitchen of his home. He was furious at his sister and Seth but knew they were only trying to keep him safe. He didn't care. He wanted Randi. Needed to feel the warmth of her skin. To know what it was like to have a warm body again. He slammed his fist into the counter top. Little chips of tile broke off and flew to the floor.

"Edward, calm down." Jaicyn told him.

"No, I will not calm down until I find her." Jaicyn put her hands over her face and gave a muffled scream.

"She is human! You can't drink her and you cannot have a relationship with her. It goes against one of our most sacred rules. You of all people know this."

"Of course I know that. I need to find out what she means to me. I'm not seeing her for no reason at all." he ran his hands through his hair and took a deep breath.

"And you lied to me." Jaicyn said angrily.

"What do you mean?"

"You told me that you were fine. That is was nothing. But is is something. You are obsessed with this human! You have to let it go." Edward glared at Jaicyn. The look made flinch.

"Do not tell me what to let go." he said coldly. He snapped his head towards the door leading out of the kitchen. He could hear someone walking, no, someone was barely moving t heir feet. The smell of blood filled his nostrils and he almost started to gag. It was dead blood.

"What is it?" Jaicyn asked.

"I don't k now." he said, his voice low. He moved to the door and thew it open. The sight made him gasp.

Savannah was drenched in blood. It coated her hair and the robe she had on. Her left arm hung limply at her side. Her shoulder was dislocated and her elbow had been snapped. The robe she had on was ripped and barely hung on her body. As she walked, her right leg didn't come up off the ground. She wasn't even limping, just dragging her foot. Her lower lip was split open and bleeding. She took a tiny step forward and her legs gave. Edward lunged at her and caught Savannah's wounded body. He picked her up and took her inside.

"Jaicyn, get the medical stuff!" he called as he entered the house.

"Savannah!" she said shocked. Edward brought her father into his home and took her into one of the many spare bedrooms. He lay her on the bed and flipped on the lights. Savannah winced at the sudden brightness. Jaicyn rushed in with a large box, a bowl of water and some rags.

"She'll need a some new clothes." Edward told her.

"I'll get them." she turned and headed toward her own room. Edward dipped one of the rags into the water and then pressed it to Savannah's head, trying to clean off some of the blood.

"What happened to you?" he asked her softly. "The last time I saw you I told you to keep yourself safe." she turned her head to look at him. Even that small movement caused her pain.

"Vampire...attacked the house." she told him, her voice just a whisper.

"Is anyone else hurt? Was your father..." he let his sentence trail off.

"No...he's fine. Ashton's wife is gone... he's hurt." she licked her dry lips. "And I'm like this." Edward gave her a faint nod.

"I'm going to have to set your arm. You know that right?"

"Yes." she told him. Edward grabbed her forearm and shoved her forearm into her elbow. The bone snapped back into place. Savannah turned her head and screamed.

"Almost finished." he told her reassuringly. He placed one hand on her shoulder and the other on her chest. He jerked her shoulder back into place with a pop. She screamed again and tears fell from her eyes.

"It shouldn't hurt that bad." Jaicyn said coming into the room.

"I know." Edward said. He was getting worried. Pain was something that didn't occur to vampires that much. But Savannah was in too much pain. Her body writhed on the bed. He undid the belt on her robe and peeled the material off her body. There were cuts all over her skin. Some shallow, just slicing the surface, others dug deep into the flesh. She was missing chunks of skin. Like someone had taken hand fulls and ripped them out.

Jaicyn couldn't take her eyes off of all the wounds. She hadn't seen this kind of damage since she had left the confinement of her old master, the one before Maurice. Edward finished taking off the robe and turned to his sister.

"She'll be able to heal the damage in a few days. The wounds are not enough to cause permanent damage. But she does need blood. Melanie!" he called. In a few seconds a dark haired girl appeared in the doorway.

"Yes, Edward?" she said.

"Bring up a bag of blood for me."

"Sure thing." she vanished from the room and was back in seconds. "Here you go." she handed the bag to Edward and left the room again. She didn't dare ask about the woman on the bed, if she was to know, she would be told.

Edward sat next to Savannah and propped her up against his body. He held the bag to her face but she turned away from it.

"Savannah, you have to drink it." he said. He moved the bag to her face again and she did the same thing again.

"I don't want it. she said quietly.

"But you need it in your body. So drink it yourself or I'll make you drink it and you won't enjoy it." his voice was flat as he said it. He would literally force her to drink the blood. Savannah turned her head and big down into the bag. She started to drink the blood but her body didn't react well to it. The blood came back up her throat and she spit it all out on Edward.

"I'm sorry. I can't keep it down." she said wearily.

"It's alright. We'll think of something." he told her, giving her a small hug. He didn't want to do anything to hurt her. "Lay back on the bed." she sighed, and using Edward, laid on the bed again. He took the bag and let the blood drip into her wounds. The skin started to re-knit itself almost at once. At this rate the wounds would be healed in a few hours. Her skin absored the blood until there was none left. Grabbed the clothes from Jaicyn, he began to put them on Savannah. When he was finished he threw the bloody clothes in the box Jaicyn had brought in.

"Do you know who attacked you?" Jaicyn asked. Savannah shook her head.

"No, I never saw his face." she told them. "I was going to come here, to help you bond but the vampire got to me first."

"What do you mean 'bond'"? Edward asked.

"To your human. Didn't you know what was happening tonight with the young girl? She is to become your other half?"

"You mean Randi?" He asked carefully. Savannah nodded. "And I thought she didn't mean anything to me." he shot a look to Jaicyn.

"You must get to her, Edward, or she is going to die." Savannah explained. Hearing this almost made Edward flee from the room to go find her. But he had to know where to look first.

"Where is she, Savannah?" he asked.

"I don't need to tell you. You're far enough along now to find her on your own. Just feel for her. And when you do, bring her here. I'll need to tell you about the bonding."
"Jaicyn, I want you and the others to keep Savannah safe. I'm going after Randi." He knew that Jaicyn didn't like it, that she was furious. But she didn't say anything. She didn't have to. She knew that Edward could feel what she was feeling.

"Be careful," Savannah whispered. "She is surrounded by a pard. They would rather die than give her to you. You must convince them. Mostly convince Daniel, he is their leader."

"I will, don't worry." he gave her a tiny smile before leaving the room. He stepped out into the middle of the street and opened his mind and body to search for Randi.
