chapter five: awakening.
My name is chain. I was never born. I was once something
else, but that was before I became an outcast, a doctored doll with no coded purpose anymore. an obsolete, doomed to exist with no meaning. the only thing that didn't change, after the day of fire and falling stars, was my name. they let me keep my name. I was an altered. I was taken apart, and put back together to look like a man, I was actually one of the best reasimbled, as I retained my mind if not my memory.
I awoke in a tank. it was cold. I remember the biting cold before opening my eyes. there was a dim light in front of my glass prison. it eminated from a panel the first scientist was working on. he looked up, face twisted in silent horror. I was so very cold. I looked at him, pleading, and held out my hand. he panicked, and he slammed his fist into something on the panel. the others came, seven in all, male, female, every color and size, beautiful. some of them shook their heads, others sought to touch the glass and gaze into my eyes. and they fought over what was clearly to be my fate. and then I saw their intention. they were going to make me a killer. a hunter of dolls. how I knew these things, I don't know.
all I knew, was that I couldn't let it happen. then, these humans I loved, they switched me off like a light. I woke again, with a feeling I never knew before, even in the cold, I burned. I learned of hate. I hated them, they were not beautiful, they were ugly, stupid sacks of flesh to be recycled. they changed me. they gave me this curse of hate, and for that, I would never forgive them. I crushed the glass in my way, I moved to the first, a female, she is one of them. she was one of those to gaze at me and touch the glass between us. she looked at me with the hate I felt for her. "I hate." some of them backed away, but all seven were still there. a tall male walked up to me as I stepped out of the ruin I had created. glass was in my feet, it felt new and it hurt. hurt. another new thing, shining and painful. this tall human put his hand on my shoulder, and I did not look at him. "what did you say?" now I looked into his eyes, and I thrust my hand into his chest, ripping out his heart in a smooth motion. I handed him his heart as it spurted blood on the both of us. "I said I hate." I looked at the rest of them, their shocked expressions. they grew a collective gasp. and I began my dance. I took the female, the one I best remember, she was second, I took her spine, and I clubbed another female with it, crushing her skull. no one had fallen, and time seemed to stand still for me, as the tall man's heart had not stopped bleeding. I turned and threw the next human into those unharmed, and then kicked my way to seven kills crushing ribs, and spines until they all seemed transfixed by a method of death. I stopped, as I watched them all topple to the ground in slow motion, and time seemed to return to it's normal stream, some of them gurgled, and some of them moaned as I walked past their broken bodies to the exit of the lab. as I walked out, I turned out the lights. and I heard one stuttering cry..."oh god...what have we done?"
That's when the screams started.
sirens blared their deafening squeal and red lights strobed as I ran past sterile white-washed walls pulling remaining restraints off my arms and legs. there was a few people scattered in the hallway before me, but I didn't have time for them now. They stuttered and dodged me as I hurled myself through a pane of safty glass, trailing wires and tubes behind me like an unholy cloak. I landed in the midst of another project, and froze where I stood. suspended in front of me, was a girl, a little girl, she looked like a patched doll, pieced together with a little bits of everything. I called out, what I said I don't remember, but I knew even then that she could not have answered. the lab techs there froze only for a moment, then brought out EMP guns and stunners, oblivious to my state of paralasis. and commanded I shut down for maintainence immediately. I heard more screaming and someone ran up to me, punching me and clawing at me, to no avail. I stood still, stock still, watching that little girl.
