Warehouse Escape
Chapter Five: Warehouse Escape
Kevin stood on the second story of the warehouse, with his warriors waiting readily behind him. Rose stood at the two main doors next to Bobby. Peering over the outside of the window, Kevin made sure it was clear enough to make a pretty clean break out into the woods. He was sure some of the Creatures would follow, but was confident they could lose them, or kill them
The coast was clear enough, with just a small group of seven below, wandering around aimlessly looking for a way in. They hadn't been back there long, that was obvious, but sooner or later they'd notice the gaping hole above them, so it was time to move fast. Although Kevin did not trust Bobby, he looked down at Rose, giving her the nod to go ahead and move out.
Rose placed her hands on the large wooden plank holding the two doors closed, ready to lift it. Bobby took a deep breath, he didn't have a sword, no one would trust him with a weapon, so he knew that there was a good chance he'd die as soon as the doors opened. Rose thought she might not live as well, but tried not to let thoughts such as that seep through her mind.
Quickly she glanced up at Kevin, giving him the go ahead, and with that she lifted the lock on the doors, swinging them open. Bobby charged out as Rose closed the doors, and Kevin began to order people out the window one by one.
First it was Marie, as soon as they started coming out, the Creatures saw them, and hungrily awaited their landing. When Marie hit the ground, she pulled the sword from her sheath, strapped around her dark black pants. They came to her slowly crowding her as Kevin helped James down next. He soon dropped to the ground and drew his sword as well.
As both James and Marie held off the seven monsters, Amy, Lindsey, Angel, Britney, Eliza and Misty came out shortly after, charging into the woods. The more noise made, the more Creatures began to head around to the back, time was running out. Kevin looked up at Melina and said, "Alright, go quickly, I'll come right after you and make sure you're safe."
She nodded and climbed out the large window, dropping down, her feet hit the ground and the Creatures looked up, two had been killed but there were more of them now, and they knew she was the one they needed!
Right then, Kevin made his way down, standing in front of her, James shouted, "Run, Marie and I will hold up here until Rose comes around!"
They did just that and took off, Kevin behind her, drawing his sword, keeping the mosters off her as best as he could. She drew her sword as well, and just then, three came out of no where, jumping out in front of them, with a loud screech! It was as though they were calling the others to come, Kevin knew they had to move straight ahead, so they had to take care of this and fast.
"Melina, take the one on the right and I'll get the one on the left!" He shouted at her.
With a nod of her head, she switched positions and ran forward to the monster. The third one came up behind her, but she spun to kick it, quickly turning back to plant her sword inside the stomach of the first one.
Kicking his right leg up in the air, he knocked the monsters face in pretty good, but he was soon knocked of his feet by a blow right to the ribs. The monster wasted no time, and stepped on the hand clutching the weapon until he let go. Then it raised it's claws for the kill, and hurriedly slammed them into the ground, Kevin barely missed them, getting by with a mere slice to the shoulder. He rose quickly, to grab the sword but it was too late, and the monster slashed his leg. But he hardened his fists and punched the Creature left and right in the face until it fell to the ground with a slight spin, grabbing his sword, he plunged it into the Creatures heart, and with a loud cry it was dead
With all her force, she pushed her leg forward into it's chest until it fell to the ground, struggling to get up. While it was down, she faced the other one but was too late and it sliced the bottom of her dark green leather shirt. Blood trickled down as she groaned in pain, finding the strength to reach out, ready to attack again, when the other monster rose, grabbing her from behind. She kicked and fought but it was no use, until she felt it's arms let go of her, and then it fell to the ground. She turned and noticed Kevin behind her, he had killed it.
The footsteps of many other Creatures could be heard and they both knew it would soon be too much for them. They didn't need Kevin, but Melina would have to be kept alive, and she was not about to see him die. The both of them rushed forward plunging their weapons into the Creature as it let out it's last scream before death.
"Come on, we have to keep moving." Melina said.
With that they both took off as fast as they could, hoping to catch up with the others soon
Meanwhile, back behind the warehouse, Marie and James were having a rough time keeping them off, it was almost too much.
James shouted, "Is our bait dead, or just not doin' his job!"
She replied, slicing a Creature in half, "Just don't stop!"
A Creature surrounded them from every angle, till they were sure there was no escape, there must have been ten that they could see, but many more they knew were waiting for them to make a move. With just two of them, they were beginning to wonder if they could make it out of this alive together.
In the front of the building, Bobby did his best to dodge and out smart these Creatures. But he was not as strong as the warriors and his strength was running out, he was growing weary and tired from running, sliding and fighting.
It was time now for Rose to make sure everyone made a clean get away. She hurried up the ladder to the second floor, and stared out the window. Shocked to see Marie and James still fighting! She yelled down, "What are you still doing down there?!" It had not been part of the plan, and she thought something was wrong. But as soon as she shouted down, the Creatures from the front, heard her, and more and more ran to the back, little did some of them know Melina was headed off to the castle.
There was no time to lose now, after realizing the damage she'd done, she slid down the ladder so fast it caused her to fall to the ground. Picking herself up, she dusted off as she ran to the doors, swinging them open, but Bobby was no where in sight! The sea of Creatures was quickly moving to the back, and Bobby was no where to be seen as a strange mist began to rise from the ground.
She called out for him, "Bobby! Bobby!" It was then she drew the attention of those things, but in the midst of them was Bobby, lying on the ground, soaked in blood, and unconscious. She had to rescue him she thought, so without another thought, she charged out with her sword, and began slashing anything in her way. Bobby's eyes opened briefly as he saw her coming to him, lifting his head for just a second, he was too weak, as it rested once again on the ground. His vision blurred as he saw her fight, breaking through the crowd of monsters, but just then he felt the claws of one on his back!
"Get up!" She yelled, and against all else, he slowly rose, facing the beast that had just tried to take hold of him. Blood trailing down his lip, he wiped it away, and though weak, he fought. Using all skill he had to face the monster before him. Kicking it in the ankles he managed to get it on the ground long enough to turn and run, but when he turned he saw Rose in danger! She was surrounded by five of them, with no weapon, his eyes wandered the grass, until he spotted the sword. He ran forward as one of them picked her up, tossing her forward onto her back, she groaned painfully then rose quickly, trying to fight them off.
By the time he reached the weapon, nearly all the Creatures had taken notice to what was going on, and many of them were fleeing into the woods in search of the slayer. Finally getting her down long enough, one of the things held her in place as they rest hungrily surrounded her, ready to tear her apart. Bobby hurried with all his might to where she was, his legs shaking as he carried the sword. He was almost too weak, but he got close enough just before falling to toss the sword her way, and with it she grabbed the blade, slicing her own hand, and through it up, launching it into the monsters eye.
Getting up fast, he ran up on the monsters, knocking them into each other until they fell, and then he reached down for Rose. But before he got her, one of the Creatures lodged it's claws into her leg, rendering her helpless momentarily. More gathered around, ready to feast on the both of them, Rose cried out, "Get the hell out of here!" But he ignored her shouting and reached down, taking her hand, pulling her up. She screamed in pain, clutching her leg, "I can't walk." She continued, "Get out of here, go, now!" Bobby just yelled back, "Come on, make yourself run, do it!" Angrily she pushed herself, as he took the sword, dashing through the beasts, they made it to the back, she couldn't believe it. But when they reached the back, Marie and James were gone. However there was no time to wonder why, they darted into the woods as fast as they could, with the monsters nipping at their heels.
Without warning Bobby pushed Rose into the nearest bush and leapt behind it with her, covering her mouth he urged her to keep quiet and be still. Then one by one the Creatures ran passed them, as they lay there until Bobby was sure enough that it was safe.
Ahead of all of them were, Angel, who led, Amy, Britney, Lindsey, Eliza and Misty. The six of them were not followed as far as they knew, but had to stop and wait for the others. Just up a little ways, Lindsey caught sight of a roof top, not a very high one, but one that was hidden it seemed, beneath several tall tree's.
The wind blew slowly through the leaves on the tree's, rustling them softly as they all approached the cottage. It was strangely calming and appeared like a good place to stop and wait till the others turned up. It was a small place, obviously a place someone had built a long time ago, perhaps the owner of the warehouse they thought.
Angel, walked around the front, the rest behind him as he opened the door slowly. Turning the nob, he pushed forward, noticing that the door was stuck a bit and hadn't been opened in a while, it was pitch black inside and smelled musty. When he stepped inside the floor creaked with each step as though the cabin had flooded at some point or another and made the floor boards soggy.
Everyone waited in the doorway as Angel stepped inside. His elbow caught what felt like a wooden dresser, it shook and made a loud clank as though something were on top of it, he yelled back at Lindsey, "Quick, the lighter." She looked down at the white bag wrapped around her shoulder. Reaching into it, she pulled it out, "Got it!" She said hurrying into the dark cabin with Angel.
He took it from her hands, and opened it up, lighting it. Sure enough he'd bumped an end table, on it was an oil lamp. He lifted the round glass surrounding the wick, and lit it, placing the glass back over it. He tossed the lighter back to Lindsey and picked up the lamp, looking around the place.
It was a small place, and it looked as though someone had built it themselves a while back. A long while back, because holes had formed on the ceilings, and from that they figured must have dripped water, because the wood floors were very soggy and smelled of must. In the middle of the room, was a large double bed, and on it were some old sheets scattered about. They had turned yellow and been worn by water and time.
While Angel moved to his left towards the next bedroom, Lindsey found that there were several oil lamps around, and she began lighting them. One was on the counter in which the bed was facing up against. Behind that was a small kitchen area, or what was to be a kitchen, the place obviously had more work to be done, and whomever was building it never finished.
There was an old rusted wood stove, still being built, and then a table that was missing two legs, and now lied flat on it's back. There were no windows on that wall. But there were two small square ones, side by side to the left of the door. Covering over them were some old brown curtains, that draped down to the ground.
A bathroom had not been built yet, and the only other room that had been Angel was checking out. It was a very small room, in it were just two things. A single bed, no sheets, and an empty dresser beside it. The bed was facing a long square strip window, with no curtains and from it you could see into the woods. Angel turned around and headed back to the main area as Amy closed the front door.
Once he'd gathered everybody together, he made sure they were alright and unharmed. Now, they needed to wait for the others to show, but the cabin, was a little ways off from the path in which everyone was headed down.
Misty stepped forward, staring up at Angel, she said, "I think someone should stand out on the path to wait, and then maybe someone could stand guard at the front door."
He placed his hand underneath his chin and thought for a moment, then Angel said, "Alright. I'll go out to the path and watch for anyone else who comes. You, Eliza, guard the front door."
She replied, "Right."
Angel continued, "Eliza, I'll signal you to come to me if I need any help what so ever. Some of them might be injured. We can bring them inside to Lindsey. How many supplies do you have left?"
Looking through her bag for a moment, she stared back up and replied, "Not many, but I'll use and mix what I have. I'm not promising anything."
Once that was settled, Angel and Eliza started to head out. But Amy stopped them, "Wait!"
They paused in the doorway, as she came closer to them saying, "We can't wait around forever in here."
Lindsey looked up and replied, "What are you saying."
Britney answered her, sliding the sword back in it's sheath, "She means we can't stall here forever waiting for the rest."
"But, but we have to I mean, Kevin...and the warriors we need them it can't just be us! How would we find the castle, Bobby knows..."
Lindsey was interrupted by Angel, "For all we know Bobby could be a liar! I don't trust him. Now Amy is right, we can't wait here forever, if we do the ritual could very well complete itself."
A silence fell over the room, until Britney spoke up, "But we need Melina. She is the slayer the Vampires need. She must be protected."
Misty said, "It's not so much that we need her. We just need to know that they don't have her."
"Listen to yourselves!" Lindsey shouted.
Eliza stormed towards her angrily, "Don't yell, you'll have us all found out. Now is not the time to worry about those single fighters. We were chosen to fight and win, or die in battle, they now the cost. Too many innocent lives are at steak."
Amy then added, "But we have the advantage this time. No one is to know who the special slayer is, the Vampires can always find out. They've been around long enough to trace it back. But this time, we know who our slayer is."
Lindsey asked, "And what of the great power she's supposed to posses?"
"Not even she herself knows what it is. And no slayer of her kind before her has lived to find out." Britney replied.
Angel then said, "Alright, enough talk, Eliza, guard this door and remember what I said. We will wait two hours for the others to show. If they don't we will head out without them. And as for the slayer, if she does not show, we will send two fighters back to look for her, while the others press on. daylight approaches us in just four hours. We must hurry."
Eliza stepped out with Angel closing the door behind her she stood firmly and ready as she watched Angel walk out to the path. He stopped, hiding himself behind a large, tall tree, peeking over the side, and blending in with the darkness, he waited. But he wasn't sure in his mind, they would show. For the path was far to hard to spot and he himself was surprised he saw it. It would take them if not hours and day or two to find there way again, if they went even inches off it.
After laying low for what seemed like sometime, Bobby sat up, looking out, left and right. He was positive that for now, things were safe. He leaned back and looked over at Rose. She was tending to her wounded leg.
Bobby folded his arms and rested them on top his knees, "Are you alright?"
Without looking up she responded cooly, "I'm fine. Those things just caught me off guard. I'd have been fine, I would have escaped."
"What's done is done." He said.
She looked over at him, her angry dark eyes fiercely attacking him, "What you did, could have gotten us both killed!"
He stood up, "You're welcome." He spoke angrily.
Pushing herself up on both hands, she rose beside him, "We have to move. They wont wait for us forever."
"If they did decided to wait at all." He said.
Rose stepped out from the bushes, "Are you coming or not?"
He walked out and stood beside her, "What about the others...the two who were fighting..."
She interrupted him, "Marie and James? Look, they probably started off ahead of us, and if we hurry, we can catch them. I'll explain to you, who everyone is and their names on the way, alright?"
He nodded, and off they went.
Back at the warehouse, no one knew that Marie and James had climbed back inside, to hide out. The Creatures were all gone, as they stepped out from behind a bail of hay on the second story. James went out first, looking over the edge of the great and wide window. There was nothing, only darkness and the dead sounds of night. He signaled for Marie to step out, she followed quickly after him as he slid down and dropped to the ground, his sword drawn and ready for battle. Marie came just after he did, her sword also drawn.
They walked that way, readily for a while, following the path as best they could in the dismal darkness. There were no sounds of life anywhere. It was as though the forest had been drained of all living things. No crickets, birds, or insects. Had the Vampires killed and eaten everything, Marie asked herself? That itself was too horrid a thought. The only sounds to be heard was that of their own footsteps, crunching the grass, fallen leaves and twigs beneath their feet.
After a while, they placed their swords back in the sheaths and walked cautiously about, still keeping to the path. Hoping to find someone soon. They didn't have to wait long.
Just then, out from the bushes to their right, leapt Rose and Bobby! Before they could explain anything, three Creatures came shooting out of the weeds after them! Though weak, Bobby rose up, unarmed and ready to do battle. It was then that Rose noticed James and Marie with their swords ready drawn to fight. She backed away from the beasts, as the three fighters took their positions.
The wind picked up heavily blowing through the tree's as Marie shot forward at the first and closest Creature to her. Not soon after she made her move, did James make his on the nearest monster to him. Rose did the same. All the while Bobby stood back and watched, unsure of just what to do. But he knew he didn't feel able to fight.
Placing his right hand to his forehead, he found himself sweating as his vision blurred. They'd been running for a while, yet he felt lucky that Marie and James had caught up with them. Things started to spin as Bobby gasped for breath, taking what air into his lungs he could. He'd never run so far so fast before, it was almost too much. Still, he wished he had the strength that the warriors did to fight.
Rose finished the Creature off with one hard blow to it's skull, blood shot out, spattering across the ground and hitting some near by bushes and tree's. The clanking of their swords echoed through Bobby's aching head, as Rose turned to him. Up against a tree, resting she shouted out to him, "Run! Up ahead, you know the path, we agreed to follow it! If they're not waiting you can find them!"
Bobby replied, "But the castle, I don't believe it's on the path!"
Her sword clashed against Marie's as they took on the same beast, "Tell the others that! Now go! We'll catch up!' Rose commanded.
He didn't want to leave them like that, but he knew that if they were waiting, they wouldn't do so forever, and if anyone could catch up, it would be those three. They could probably even move faster without him, he thought. And so off he ran, taking on final look back before pressing ahead.
"He wont make it on his own you know." James said to Rose, as he took the Creature in front of him down.
She just stared back at him saying, "He might. And then he might not."
Suddenly, Marie was knocked to the ground by a Creature that came from behind her. Three more followed it as well! Surrounded now, they could either stay and fight, or run. There were five Creatures, and three of them, but they stood firm to fight.
Rose spun around, "I'll hold them off, you take care of the ones in front of you!" She said.
Marie stood up quickly, then swung her weapon into the air, plunging it deep into the monsters stomach. Blood sprayed out at her, hitting her shirt and pants, soaking them. But it was not dead, and now her sword was lodges inside it. Rendered from her weapon, she quickly leapt into the air, and spun, lifting her leg, to kick it. But with it's long wiry fingers, it reached out, slashing her ankle before grabbing her leg, flipping her onto the ground.
While it's back was turned, James stabbed it in the back of the neck with his sword, then pulled it out. Blood spraying in every direction. It turned to face him, and with it's ghastly claws, it slashed across his chest. He groaned angrily in pain, and then ran at it with his weapon. But it knocked the sword from his hand, and then ran at him. Marie got up hurriedly and dashed for the sword, but out of no where came another monster, and it got there before she did, knocking her back into the trunk of a tree.
It wasn't going well for Rose either. Surrounded by five now, and more just kept coming. She spun around fast three times, knocking them back as much as she could and then she yelled, "There are too many of them! We have to make a run for it!"
James shot up and ran towards Rose, kicking the beasts in his way until he reached her, "Where's Marie?" He asked.
Just then they heard a painful groan coming from the left side of them, they looked over and noticed Marie getting up. But when Rose looked back, a Creature was staring her right in the face. She screamed as it knocked her on the ground, causing her as well, to lose her sword.
Now, all of them without weapons, and surrounded, they had no choice but to run. Marie quickly rushed to them. Circled by those beasts, like prey ready to be attacked, James looked down in the darkness for the path. It was just straight ahead, but so were several of the Creatures, still it was their only chance. He knew if they got lost, they'd never make it out of the woods.
With all the Creatures attention focused on them, they closed in on their meal. Trapped, they were ready to fight to the death. Just then, out from the bushes to their right, came Bobby, quickly picking up the sword closest to him. He shouted, "Come on, this way!"
James could not believe it, he said, "Bobby?!"
Now every monster looked at Bobby, Rose took a hold of Marie's arm, "Come on! We have to run now! It's our only chance!"
Bobby ran forward following Marie and Rose as they moved forward. James running side by side with him. The Creatures were so close that they could feel the tips of their claws reaching out for them. But they kept moving forward.
"I thought....Rose told you...to..to go!" James said, panting out of breath as he ran.
Bobby looked at him and replied, "Then what would have...happened to me if I'd come up against some of those things?"
James answered, "What do you..care, you're gonna be executed anyway."
They kept running and running until they didn't hear the Creatures anymore, still they ran. Just to make sure they weren't being followed. And when they felt they were safe, for now, they stopped, only briefly to catch their breaths, before they went on walking. Bobby however, was not as strong, and he felt faint. Marie noticed.
She came and walked beside him as he lagged on in the back, "That was brave what you did. Thank you." She said. Bobby looked up at her, out of breath and so weak. She offered her shoulder to him, so that he could lean on her and she would help him along. He thanked her kindly, and they went, following Rose and James along the path.
Far ahead of them, were Melina and Kevin. Still cautiously and quietly moving through the dark forest. They'd stepped off the path where they could still see it, and keep an eye on where they were headed, but kept far enough off to make sure that those monsters wouldn't catch up with them. Because while the Creatures would possibly kill any others who got in there way, they were not after the others, only Melina. And Kevin took it upon himself to watch her. Make sure she was safe.
"Do you think they've stopped off to wait for us?" She asked.
Kevin responded quietly, "They must have. Even if not, we need to keep watch over you. So they could have sent someone back, someone we will meet shortly."
The winds picked up, whipping through the tree's at a high speed, blowing and tossing Melina's long golden blond hair. It made it harder to hear if anything was following them, or headed their way, although, Melina did feel that every second they were being watched. She fought off that eerie feeling that crept up on her, and kept moving behind Kevin.
She said, "If I am to be kept safe, why take me to the castle?"
He replied, "We can't leave you behind."
"But the Creatures they're all but gone. Why not hold back and fight off what little of them come? If I am taken close to the castle, it'll just mean less struggle if they find me, because I will be closer." She said.
Kevin responded still keeping his eyes forward, "I've explained this to you before, when we left the village."
"They know I'm this far, that's that much less they'll have to drag me!" She protested.
He stopped and faced her, "Look! The village was over run by Creatures and Vampires turning the streets upside down and burning the houses from the inside out looking for you! We had no choice, we fought there all we could before things got out of control. They chased us into the warehouse, and it wasn't safe either, we had to keep moving. And we will have to, until we get you hidden, somewhere safe." He said at first angrily, then softened his tone.
They began walking again, at a quick enough speed so they wouldn't lose much time. But it didn't sit well with Melina that she had to leave the village, and it filled her with guilt. The very people she was to protect, she'd left. Though she knew that there were just as many at the castle being killed as they spoke.
"We should have protected the pure sacrifices." She said.
Kevin replied in an upset tone, "We weren't aware who they were. It's too late for that now."
Finally she decided to keep quiet, then maybe things would move quicker.
It had already been one hour, with no sign of anyone. Angel was beginning to wonder if maybe they'd all been killed. But just as he had that thought, up ahead, he saw what appeared to be three to four shadowy silhouettes in the distance. Without thinking, he called out aloud, "Over here!" But he would soon wish he hadn't. For it was then he saw them, step from the darkness, four Creatures and behind them, followed more. It must have been some of them that'd stayed behind, and were headed back to the castle, he thought. He quickly turned and motioned for Eliza to come to him. She could tell by the expression on his face, that it was not good.
At first she thought, maybe the slayer had been taken, or was wounded, but when she reached him, she saw for herself, just what it was. The closer the Creatures got, the more of them seemed to spill out of the blackness that surrounded them. They were being cornered, trapped and hunted now.
Angel looked at her and said, "I need you to go inside, get Amy and Misty. We'll need to hold here. Keep Britney and Lindsey inside, so maybe they wont be found. And if need be, they can escape further down to wait."
Eliza was in complete disagreement saying, "That's absurd! We can't hold here, we'll be killed!"
"Then so be it! I said two hours and it has been but one, we will fight and hold for one more hour! Understand, now go!" He yelled.
Furiously she hurried to bring Amy and Misty into the battle that would soon be upon them.
She flung the door wide open and called out for Misty and Amy. They came running forward.
"What is it?" Asked Misty with a look of concern on her face.
Eliza replied quickly and calmly, "The Creatures have found us, we need you to help us fight."
Amy couldn't believe what she was hearing, "You mean we're holding position?"
"Yes. We've got to, I don't have time to argue. Angel's orders." She replied.
Misty said, "Who put him in charge?"
Eliza spoke firmly, "Come, now! There's no time for this!"
They pushed out the door, both of them. Eliza looked in at Lindsey and Britney.
Britney asked, "What shall we do?"
"Hide here. If things do not look good for us...run. Find a new place to hold, and if no one shows. Find the castle, and carry out there. You may be our last hope if we lose this battle." Replied Eliza.
Lindsey quickly added, "That's crazy! We're not prize fighters."
"There's no time for this!" Eliza said, giving them one final glare before closing the door.
Britney turned to face Lindsey, both of them scared. They knew if the matter were left up to just them, it would be over. The Vampires would win out, they had little to no confidence in themselves. Still, they both knew they'd try, they had to. But secretly they hoped that someone from the other group would show up, anyone.
By the time Eliza reached Angel, Misty and Amy the Creatures were even closer, and the ones in back fast approaching.
"You realize you could get us killed." Amy said, looking at Angel.
He replied, "I was put in charge, we'll hold, and fight."
The monsters surrounded them, even the cabin, as Britney and Lindsey hid inside, rushing around, blowing out every lamp they could find quickly to shade their whereabouts.
The noises of the wind and shrieks of the Creatures sent chills up and down their spines as they scrambled for a place to hide. Britney hid near the front door, behind one of the old curtains, in hopes that if a break in occurred she could easily escape before she was found. Before Lindsey could get to her medical bag at Brintney's feet, she was forced to hide at the horrid sounds she heard outside. Rushing into the small bedroom area, she crawled underneath the bed and listened carefully, trying to hear as much as she could over the gale force winds now beating up against the small cabin.
The war outside had already begun, three of the Creatures were dead, but it seemed as though there was an endless supply of them, hungry for blood. They did all they could to hold them off, but just knew it wouldn't be enough, and they began to pray someone would show up. Amy fought out directly on the path, several of the monsters around her, she began to take them out one by one, holding them off pretty well, but she was sure she couldn't keep that kind of pace for more then an hour.
It seemed like all hell was breaking loose for Angel, there were so many around him he couldn't see past them. But he still fought. Slinging his sword left and right, he wounded many of them, but not fatally. One of them from behind grabbed hold of him, barring it's claws into his shoulders and lifting him off the ground, as if he were holding him long enough for more to swarm so he would be eaten alive! Misty saw, but there was nothing she could do. It was too far from her for her to help him. She was having enough trouble on her own. Taking two on at once, they kept trying to out smart her, it wasn't working, but she couldn't keep them off much longer. More were coming up behind and in front of her, she could see them in the corners of her eyes as she fought.
Inside the cabin, the clanking of swords could be heard and loud cries from monsters being taken down at out. However it was obvious there were far more then before, because of the noises they made all around, coming from every direction. Britney began to wonder if they could even escape at all if need be.
Fighting close to the cabin, Eliza had been pushed back. Though unwillingly she was, she could not move forward any more, and it was nice to know they couldn't get her from behind. But it was a risk, a big one. She fought with the large square window behind her all the while, and Lindsey could hear her outside. The struggle that was going on and the noises without her being able to see drove her into madness. And Britney heard it all too. It was then when she heard a Creature at the door, and upon peering out from behind the curtain she saw it peeking in, looking at a still lit lamp, near the open doorway to the room where Lindsey hid. It needed to be blown out, Britney knew she couldn't keep her cool if one of them got inside.
But before she could carry out another thought, she heard the loud crash of window glass breaking in the other room! The window had been shattered, and Eliza knocked through it onto the bed! The shock nearly gave Lindsey a heart attack as she slid quickly out from under the bed, running frantically from the room, feeling all the while the monster was after her.
On her way out of the room, she tripped on the end table in the doorway, sending the oil lamp tumbling down, landing near the double bed. Instantly catching on fire, her one fatal mistake. The bed went up in flames quickly as Eliza did battle in that tiny room, fighting as best as she could, but the Creature was forcing her further into the cabin. And the one peering in, began to tap at the glass, ready to break it.
It wasn't long before everything started to catch fire, Lindsey ran around behind the counter, too late before she realize there was no way out back there! The flames surrounded her as Eliza came into her view, swinging the sword at the monster hard. Finally it came down, and she knocked it onto the bed of flames, pulling her sword out of it, she noticed the weapon itself had caught fire! Just then, the Creature broke through the glass, ripping and clawing it's way in, all the while Britney watched, as did Lindsey. While the place went down, it began to fill up with smoke, and it grew tougher and tougher to see anything. But still Eliza fought with all her might. For she knew any moment more and more things would be pouring in after her. She swung the flaming sword into the air, lodging it into the monsters head as she saw Britney grab the medical bag and flea from the burning cabin.
Outside the battle raged on, and the Creatures were winning. Misty, Amy and Angel were surrounded and on the path when Britney came running out to them with the bag around her shoulder and her sword drawn, ready to fight. It wasn't until then that Angel noticed the cabin on fire. Amy and Misty looked up to see it too.
"Oh my God." Said Amy aghast at what she was seeing.
Britney came hurrying out to them yelling, "They're still inside! Eliza and Lindsey are still inside!"
Angel paused for only a brief moment then ordered, "Keep fighting!"
Misty shouted back, "This is crazy, we can't win, you know that! You're gonna get us killed!"
Inside the burning cabin, Eliza tried to get passed the flames to Lindsey. But boards were beginning to fall, and she could hear more Creatures coming in from behind her. She yelled, "Lindsey, quick, run to me!"
"I can't! I can't!" She coughed and hacked smoke.
But Eliza insisted screaming, "You can make it! Hurry! Those things, they're getting inside!"
She cried out, "I can't! Oh my God! I...can't breathe!"
Both of them were coughing and gasping for air, and at that moment, the center of the roof caved and fell. It was then Eliza turned to see the frame of the doorway to the other room had fallen in, slowing up some of the monsters. But the smoke was filling her lungs as the flames grew higher and larger, licking the walls. The crackle and pops mixed with the wind, and shrieks of burning Creatures was overwhelming as Lindsey screamed while the flames surrounded her.
She couldn't breathe in much more and could feel herself getting weaker by the moment. And right then, three of the Creatures came spilling out at her, and with no way to get to Lindsey she had to make a choice. She cried out through the flames one last time, "Run!" But it was too late, they were much too high, and so she whispered, tears pouring down her face, "I'm sorry." With that she turned and ran for the door.
"Wait! Please! You can't leave me here! Eliza!" Cried Lindsey, but it was no use, she pushed the door open as the roof caved in on top of the monsters and Lindsey.
Her sword was lost in the house, as she ran weaponless out to the path were Angel, Amy, Misty and Britney stood in battle. They were losing horribly when all the sudden Eliza noticed Melina and Kevin coming down the road, pushing through the Creatures. They held up until both of them reached the rest, once reunited, Angel asked, "Where's the rest?"
Kevin replied, "We aren't sure, we didn't stop to wait."
Angel said, "Maybe it's just as well."
"Where's Lindsey?" Asked Melina.
Eliza answered sadly, "She didn't make it."
Then Kevin ordered them to move out, without the rest of the group. They weren't even sure if the others were alive. Though many of them didn't like that plan, it was the right thing to do, or so they thought. They couldn't risk it, there was no time, and they had to run. The Creatures followed after them. Ready to kill everyone else, to get to the slayer, but they knew she couldn't be harmed, she was needed. With no idea where they were headed, they moved off sticking to the path. Unaware that following closely after them were Bobby, James, Marie and Rose.
