Chapter 5

New Chapter?
“Rosette!”
She rose so quickly that Grant didn’t have time to move and they bumped into each other.
“Ow!”
Grant rubbed his head as Rosette came to and looked up at Grant. When she say his face, his one eye closed from still being hurt from the impact he looked at Rosette and began to speak but words never came out.
“Grant!”
Rosette jumped at her brother. He didn’t have time to fully comprehend the situation before Rosette had pushed him down to the floor and he groaned.
“Ugh…”
Rosette hugged him but stopped after she heard the groan. She had heard it before. It was similar to the one that he had made in her dream.
“Grant?”
“Gees little sis, I didn’t realize how happy you were to see me, especially this early in the morning. Something up?”
“Grant? Does something hurt?”
He shrugged, or would have if a confused look wasn’t plastered on his face. Then realizing his ‘groan’ he had made.
“Oh yeah, I got a little stomach ache. That’s all, nothing big don’t worry.”
Rosette’s eyes widened and she yanked his shirt up to his chin.
“Whoa there! Rosette! What are you doing?!”
She noticed a little mark. She poked it lightly. He responded by giving another little groan. She didn’t have to ask him if it hurt there, she knew, and she knew why, but did Grant?
“Grant? Where did you get this?”
“I think it’s a bruise. I must’ve bumped into something.”
“You don’t remember?”
She looked at the ‘bruise’ again. She looked closer at it.’ You would remember getting a bruise like this that hurt that much.’
“Rosette?”
She looked up from her musings. He leaned on his elbows so he would see her.
“Something the matter? I see the pained look in your eyes.”
He got off of one of his elbows and reached to Rosette and cupped her cheek. She lowered her head. Not letting him see her tears that were forming in her eyes. Without warning, she smacked his hand away and pushed him back, an evil smirk possessing her lips. She came inches from his face.
“So big brother, what brings you to my room?”
“I was on my way to leave for school and I wanted to see how you were doing. Is that a crime?”
He smirked.
“No.”
“Butttttttt……I can’t leave when I got some brat sitting on my chest now can I?”
As soon as Rosette realized her position she blushed up to her ears.
“Wait? Did you say school?! Oh my gosh school!”
Rosette was about to race up and get her things ready when Grant pulled her down.
“Relax; you’re not going to school today. You should know that. Mom wouldn’t let you. After what happened it would probably be best anyways. Right Squirt?”
He patted her head and she nodded. He was beginning to rise when she quickly stood and let him up. He dusted himself off and bent down to his sisters’ level, coming face to face with her.
“Listen you, don’t stress yourself too much today, rest a bit, watch T.V., play some games, eat a lot! Just have an off day. Okay?”
She smiled and nodded.
“Okay Grant. But you know I’d feel so much better at school.”
She implied. He was almost out the door when he turned when he looked over his shoulder.
“Don’t even try it. If I catch you leaving this house Missy…”
She stuck her tongue out and he whipped around to grab it. And he did.
“Mmmphew.”
“Be good.”
He winked at her and let go of her tongue. He was out the door and let it click shut while she stood there, tongue still sticking out, only from being dry now. She didn't move until she heard Grant speak again from front door.
"I mean it!"
He yelled and she heard the door shut and lock.
"Okay Rosette. Grant's right. Relax! Today is a carefree day! But...carefree from what? I'm not injured. What do I recover from? I have no memory from it. Oh well. It's better than to just stand here and talk to myself!"
Rosette wandered upstairs and was left to an empty house. Both her parents worked and would not be home until later afternoon, which made Rosette want to skip school sometimes. They both left before she went off to school and people did say that she sounded a lot like her mother. But Rosette never had the courage to. She wasn't a gutsy girl like she pretended to be.
She went to the fridge and opened it up. It was still fairly early and although she never really ate breakfast before school, she decided to eat. She found some of leftovers pizza, since she had been in the hospital, Grant and her father must have ordered out. She bent over and pulled out the glass plate and quickly stood. It was mistake because she began to feel light headed. She grabbed the counter, throwing the plate of pizza on the counter. She steadied herself as her sight slowly came back to her.
'Stupid. Why would you do that? You never learn.'
She took a deep breath and became fine again. She took off the covering on the plate and replaced it with a paper towel and placed it in the microwave.
'Now let's see. Hmm...This should be fine.'
She pressed some buttons which resulted in a few beeps and the microwave started up.
'Okay.'
She said to herself. She turned around, her back to the counter when all of a sudden she felt this larger pain in her head. It caused her to grab her head and she fall to her knees. The pain was too much for her to take. She cried out, screaming in pain. She pulled herself back up, looking at the time. It was 9:50 which would mean that her brother would be switching his classes. She wobbled over to the phone and dialed his cel phone.
At school, Grant's phone began to ring, but he didn't hear it, one of his friends did.
"Hey dude, you going to answer that?"
Grant's friend was pointing to his hoodie pocket that rang.
"Oh!"
He pulled the phone out, debating whether he should answer it.
"Dammit Grant pick up..."
When he saw that the call was from home he immediately answered it.
"Hello?!"
The tone made his friends jump.
"G-Grant...”
"Rosette! What...what's wrong?!"
"Grant...please...come...home....please...”
"Rosette?!"
He called out to her again but didn't hear anything. Then there was a loud thud from the other side of the phone and Grant raced out of the school, got into his car and raced home.
