Part 5

Inside the Haunted

Part 5

------------------------------

The man that Emily referred to, “Him”, could that possibly be…Charlie? He sure did seem interested in the locket I had…you know, for protection like Emily promised. Was that was he was after? Or was it me? Shivers ran down my spine and made my whole body shake and my teeth chatter. Charlie couldn’t be the person controlling Emily and haunting the Seahawk. He couldn’t. He was always so quiet and different, but it never seemed like he was…murderous. But you never know…maybe he really was.

--------------------------------

“WhooHoo! Another day of ship fixing!” Gloria shouted the next morning. I hardly got any sleep last night because I was thinking of the possibility of Charlie being the “Him” guy.

“Aren’t you psyched?” she asked me eagerly. I smiled at her as I sat down at the table. Everyone else seemed chipper but me. Had they all forgotten about Sanchez so quickly? It had only happened about two days ago.

“C’mon Maddie, it’ll be fun!” she said to me. I nodded at her.

“Yeah, it will be.” I said. She frowned at me along with Bernie.

“What’s the matter with you? When we first came, we couldn’t get you to sit still and now…well…you are sitting still for a change.” Gloria said.

“I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night is all.” I said. Thinking about why I couldn’t scared the crap out of me. Charlie now really scared the crap out of me. Well, think of the devil. Charlie walked in and greeted everyone with a smile. He came to the table and scooted in next to me on the bench. I shrank against the wall to get away from him. He was NOT going to take the locket away from me. No way. Bernie saw me and gave me a funny Look, but didn’t say anything. Charlie turned to me.

“Hey Maddie. Ready to fix the Seahawk today?” he asked me gently. I nodded quickly and turned away. I really didn’t want to talk to him or even be near him.

----------------------------------

“Hey Bernie, can you toss me the crescent wrench please?” I asked. It was my first official day on the job and I was working really hard. Of course, progress was going slow because we had lost Sanchez, our main mechanic. But we were getting there. Bernie reached inside the toolbox and tossed it my way. I caught it and began working again. Bernie stood up and rubbed the sweat away from his forehead.

“Madigan, what was going on between you and Charlie this morning?” he asked me. Oh lord. I was trying to avoid this question, but there was no stopping him.

“Uh…nothing. He just creeps me out is all. AND he came into my room last night and scared me. He was standing there for like ten minutes just watching me and I didn’t even know about it.” I said quickly, getting it all out. Bernie just looked at me when I finished.

“Well, no wonder you didn’t get any sleep.” Bernie said, smiling. I frowned.

“Do you seriously think it’s funny?” I asked coldly. Now Bernie really did laugh.

“Relax Madigan. I was just joking. Just ignore him, Charlie’s a little weird is all.” Bernie said. I nodded and got back to work.

---------------------------------------

“Well, what do you think?” I said to Bernie a few hours later. I had finished the inside interior of the main hall on the Seahawk. He nodded and smiled.

“You’re a natural at this Madigan. Your parents would be proud of you. I already am.” He said. He reached over and gave me a big bear hug. I gave one back, but I was surprised. When we pulled away, I smiled.

“Since when do you give people hugs?” I joked with him. He smiled.

“Since now when you’re old enough.”

“You have to be 18 to get a hug from Bernie? Gosh, I’ve been missing out all these years.” I said. By this time, we were both laughing like crazy and couldn’t stop. When we finally did, we heard it. A big bang followed by a scream.

“What was that?” I asked timidly.

“I don’t have any idea. Let’s go.” Bernie said, taking off down the hall. I quickly followed him, my heart pounding a tattoo against my chest.

“Emily, I hope this locket works.” I thought to myself, grasping it in my hand while I was running. Suddenly, I tripped over who knows what and went sprawling onto the ground face first. I whacked my face off of the ground and bit my lip, causing blood to splatter all over the place.

“Oh disgusting!” I said out loud, wiping my lip with my hand. It was streaked with blood. I wiped the blood on the ground and started to walk again, supporting my lip. I heard a suckling sound behind me and…my blood was gone. It appeared on the walls and disappeared. I started to shake uncontrollably. “He” was here, watching me in the hall.

---------------------------------------------

“Mmm…blood. It tastes so good, especially from a young one.” An eerie voice said echoing off of the walls.

“What do you want from me?” I shouted, my voice shaking.

“But you know, that was only a sample of the treat.” The voice said, ignoring my question. I spun around and around, trying to find the source of the voice, but it seemed to be coming from everywhere: the walls, the ceiling, and the floor, everywhere!

“You see Madigan, I want the whole package of treats. I WANT YOU! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!” the voice shouted.

“Holy f**k, I gotta get out of here!” I screamed.

“You aren’t going anywhere!” the voice said. The walls started to close in against me and the floor was moving up while the ceiling moved down. I was going to be crushed to death! I sprinted up the hall, my blood splattering everywhere and the walls and floor and ceiling suckling it in.

“SOMEONE HELP ME!” I screamed. But I was alone. All alone with a psychotic, haunting ghost.
