Chapter Nine
/Damn it!/ Rowan thought.
/Where are you?/ Garret asked.
/I don’t know, and I don’t need your help./
/I’ll track you./
/You don’t listen very well, do you?/
/You need me; therefore, I’m coming. When someone that I care about is in trouble-/
/‘Someone that you care about?’ Remember Jesse? You tried to kill my boyfriend, Garret!/
She got the impression of an annoyed growl. /I’ve told you again and again. I never touched him./
/Oh bite me./
/Now’s not a good time, angel./
“He shall be here soon,” a man dressed all in black who looked like he was maybe a freshman in high school said. He was dressed in all black, obviously a wannabe Goth. Both girls had had Goth friends in high school; they were nothing like this guy. Rowan shook her head lightly; he was definitely a loser.
She blinked suddenly confused. “Hey, when did you come in?”
“Rae, he’s been here for a few minutes. Do you have a narcolepsy problem that we’re unaware of?” Nova inquired.
“We will call upon him to feed upon your flesh.”
She allowed myself a deep growl. “Let me loose, my little Goth friend, and we’ll see who feed from whose flesh.”
“Rae?”
“Yeah?”
“That’s a sick visual.”
“Sorry. So, if I’m a sacrifice, what’s she?”
“Dessert,” the man promptly responded.
/We’ve got a problem, angel./
“What else is new?” she muttered.
“She’s often dessert?” the Goth asked clearly confused.
“Of course,” she replied.
/I’m here... but there’s this guy. He just appeared. He took out a bunch of guys in black. Friend or foe?/
“I think your friends outside are having some difficulty,” Rowan said calmly. As that moment a man walked through the door and Garret leapt through the window, breaking it, and landing in front of us. “Who said chivalry is dead?”
“You two okay?” Garret asked turning to us.
“Just peachy.”
“Welcome back from the dead,” Nova said raising her eyebrows before glaring at Rowan.
“I don’t like being told what to do,” the man said looking at his hands where bloodstained claws rested. “It really pisses me off.”
“Stay away,” the Goth said raising a cross.
The demon merely laughed shaking his head. “Silly child. You have no faith. In anything, or else you wouldn’t be in this mess to begin with.”
“Back off,” Garret growled.
The demon turned his eyes glowing briefly. “Are you going to stop me? None of you can stop me!” Garret snapped the handcuffs holding Nova, then the rope holding Rowan who stood stretching her cramped arms.
“C’mon, angel,” Garret smiled at Rowan. “Now, this rescue definitely deserves something.”
“Not until you explain exactly how you found us. Were you following me?” she demanded.
The demon crossed his arms glaring at the three. “This is sweet, but I have a man to kill.”
“You’re not going to touch him!” Nova said stepping in front of the Goth, who had now wet his pants.
“That’s just gross,” Rowan said easily catching that scent.
“Do you have no control?” Garret asked wrinkling up his nose.
“Tell me something. How exactly do you plan to stop me?” the demon inquired raising one light brown eyebrow and ignoring the two vampires.
“Run,” Nova told the man. The Goth took off running. The demon started after him but Nova sprang into his path. He took her to the ground and pinned her. Rowan started forward.
“One more step and I’ll rip her throat out,” he warned. “So, tell me, what exactly have you accomplished?”
“I saved him.”
“In return I can now kill you, my little Wiccan. Your innocent life force in return for a man who was going to kill you. Is that fair? So are you my virgin sacrifice?” Both Nova and Rowan laughed. Nova was well known for her “conquests.”
“Please,” Nova said. “That’d be her.”
“A vampire virgin?” he mused raising his eyebrows. “Please allow me to introduce myself. I’m-”
“’A man of wealth and taste’,” Rowan smirked quoting the Rolling Stones’ song.
“’I’ve been around many a long, long year’,” Garret chimed in.
“’Stolen a many man’s soul and faith’,” Nova sang.
“’Pleased to meet you, won’t you guess my name’,” we chorused.
“Okay... that was just weird,” the demon said. “The name’s Damien.”
“Right,” she said, “of course.”
“Are you going to kill us, Mr. Demon?” Nova said in her most seductive voice. Damien stood pulling Nova to her feet.
“I’m not killing anyone,” he said. “I’m more of a mischief demon. Low ranks. They tend to torture us because we have feelings.” Garret frowned. This man truly bothered him. Everything in him wanted to destroy what his instincts were screaming was a threat to his match and her friend. He’d dwell on the match part later.
“Okay, if you weren’t going to kill me-” Rowan stopped at the looks from the others. “Nevermind.”
“Forget what I asked,” Damien said. “I can see it now.” Rowan blushed at his knowing look.
“Back off, demon,” Garret said.
“Make me, vampire,” Damien challenged.
“You’re not worth my time,” Garret sneered.
Damien matched him sneer for sneer. “So says the love-sick lapdog.”
“Are you telepathic?” Rowan asked.
“Don’t have to be,” Damien smirked. “He’s transparent.”
Garret growled again. “I take back what I said. I will greatly enjoy kicking your ass.”
“Boys,” Nova said stepping between them and glaring at the testosterone display. “If you want to whip them out and measure go ahead. Otherwise shut up.” Both guys actually reached for their flies.
“Don’t!” Rowan exclaimed. “I have no desire to see that.”
Damien raised his eyebrows. “I’m sure you’ve seen it before.” Nova started laughing. Rowan didn’t respond, which caused laughter from the guys.
“Angel, we can fix that anytime you want,” Garret purred.
She blushed even more. “If you want it to stay attached to your body keep it in your pants.”
“Ouch,” Damien laughed. “I think I like you people.”
“So, what do we do with a demon?” Rowan asked.
“Normally I’d say kill it,” Nova said thoughtfully. “But I think I have a different solution.”
