chapter 5
reviews are wonderful!! :)
A deep bass sound woke her. She was very confused. Her eyes shut, she focused on trying to feel herself. That sound again. It felt like it was coming from the room, maybe the bed, something right next to her, on her. There it was again. A throb that she could feel rumble through her stomach, up to her ears. It completely enveloped her. What was going on? Again. She tried to remember something, anything. Everything was black when she opened her eyes and nothing was in her mind. That sound, it was like standing beside the speaker at a metal concert; she could feel the vibrations travel through her. She was on her way home from work. She thought harder. Joe was in the alley. That guy! She cleaned him up. That sound again! She had been watching him sleep…then what? The sound was familiar. It was her…her pulse. Oh god, she could hear and feel her blood trudging through her veins and arteries. What was going on?
“Good morning” She jumped, not expecting that voice. Was it morning? It was dark everywhere.
She mumbled something, trying to figure out how to move her tongue.
“Yea, you’ll feel odd for a while.” She tried sitting up and succeeded in making up to her forearms. A thousand cliché questions ran through her mind before she decided on the most pressing.
“Why do I feel like this?” He smirked.
“You’re changing. It’s like a caterpillar transforming to a butterfly.” Rage was perched on the footboard of the bed she was laying in. Balancing easily, he swung his legs in a rhythmical manner.
“Changing into what?” He ignored the question and hopped off. She tried to protest as he ran his hand over her cheek, but couldn’t find the will.
“You’re beautiful, but you will be radiant, sensuous, and irresistible. You’ll have no trouble attracting victims.” She shuddered.
“What are you talking about?” Her stomach rumbled, and she felt so empty. “Am I dead?” He snorted.
“In a manner of speaking. You’re hungry.” It was not a question, but a statement. She found she had to agree. He left, and she presumed he had gone for food. She wished she could remember what had happened that night that had left her feeling so awful. It was like her body was gone and replaced with, something else, she couldn’t quite say what. But she was starving and looked grateful when he returned. She looked expectantly in his hands but was startled when all she saw was a long knife.
“Time for dinner.”
She glanced nervously around the room. There was no way she could out run him. She could barely lift her head and he looked, well, he looked wonderfully fit. Maybe she could talk him out of this. She had read books where rape victims talked their assailants out of committing the crimes, maybe it worked for psychopathic cannibals as well.
“Look, you don’t want to do this.” His eyes glinted and he ran his thumb over the blade, licking his lips. Okay, so maybe he did.
“Really, whoever you are. I have a disease, you’ll get sick.”
He grinned and shook his head. “No you don’t. A slight iron deficiency, but no disease.”
What in the world was going on? He leaned in close and ran his tongue over her bottom lip. She started shivering. I can’t believe I’m going to die as a main course.
“No, don’t! I taste horrible.”
He chuckled. “No darling, you taste heavenly.” This was it. She waited for the feel of the blade and her death. He placed the knife along his arm and drug it down swiftly. Crimson stained the bedspread, and she looked at him shocked.
“What are you doing?”
“I told you, it’s time for your dinner. I know you’re starving.” He wanted her to eat his blood?
“You’re crazy. Seriously, you should check yourself into a clinic or something”
He grinned again. “I know you’re hungry. You want this, you want me, you want blood.” She shook her head no, but couldn’t deny the powerful scent sweeping over her. She couldn’t believe it, but she really wanted to grab his arm and suck every drop from him. Drugs. That’s it, he had drugged her, made her psycho. But these were strong drugs.
He coaxed her, sliding his other hand under her neck and lifting her up. Drops fell on her lips. She wanted to feel ill. Every brain cell screamed at her to be sick, jerk her head away, yell for help, gouge his eyes out, anything. But her brain was doing battle with the rest of her body.
“Come on baby, it will all be better once you’ve fully changed.”
She had the strength and self control for one more question. “Into what?” Her voice was a whisper and she licked her lips, catching the taste of his blood.
He grinned at her, showing his fangs. A vampire, of course, what else could it be. She lost control and ran her tongue over the deep cut, gathering as much in her mouth as she could. It was wonderful. He smiled as he watched her eyes close and felt the sharp pain of sucking on his forearm. She was a natural. She moaned and moved with his arm, rubbing her fingers over the veins, pushing blood out of his body. Her tongue dipped in the slit in his skin, and he moaned with her. He felt his blood leave him and pushed her down by her chest when he couldn’t stand to lose anymore.
“Whoa…that’s enough lovely. You don’t want to drain me ‘fore I teach you the trade.” She looked up at him, eyes showing half hunger and half terror.
“I won’t.” She stood shakily, arms crossed and eyes narrowed in his general direction.
“You must Nya. It’s what is supposed to happen”
“Ha! I don’t care about what is supposed to happen. My only concern is what I will do and what I won’t do.” He moved closer and guided her arms down to her sides. He leaned in, tongue whispering over her jaw line.
“Aren’t you the least bit concerned about what I will do?” She whimpered. I can’t believe I just did that. From here on out, no unintended sexual noises.
“Let me go.” Her voice lacked the conviction she meant it to have.
He smirked at her, and she felt like punching him.
“You can go any time you want to.” Good. She pushed him off her and made her way to the door but froze when he spoke again. “But you’ll be back, eventually.” Curiosity turned her head back towards him.
“And why is that?”
He shrugged and licked his canine’s. “Cause you’ll be hungry.”
