Here is the next chapter, please enjoy! Excuse all mistakes; I will fix them later.

The drive back to the city was tense; the air clashed with sexual frustration and anxiety. Sexual frustration on his part, that is. Jillien, on the other hand, had almost completely forgotten what had transpired earlier; the sound of her sister’s voice still fresh in her mind.

Trying to distract himself from the intense feelings that consumed him earlier, Caleb went back to trying to make small talk. “So I’m taking you back to Rizzo’s?”

“Yeah,” she replied; her thoughts obviously somewhere else. “I need to get home as soon as I can.”

“You mean you’re walking home? Do you have any idea how late it is?”

Jillien glanced at the clock and slightly winced as the bright red 12:00am stared back at her. “It won’t be too bad. I may be small, but I’m not completely helpless. I’m capable of taking care of myself.”

Caleb’s eyes darkened at the thought of the beautiful woman next to him walking home vulnerable to all the dangers of the city. “There’s no way I’m letting you walk home. Give me your address, I’ll drop you off.”

She rolled her eyes and grunted in annoyance. “Sorry cowboy, but I don’t give personal information, including house addresses, on the first date.”

“Come on, Jills, it’s not like I’m going to show up at your house all the time. I’m just not comfortable with you walking home alone this late.”

“God damnit, Caleb, just do as I ask! I’ve done this plenty of times. And trust me, the distances are a lot longer, and the neighborhoods are a lot more dangerous. Another thing, don’t call me Jills or any other abbreviation of my name, I didn’t give you permission to do so, and I will not acknowledge it. ”

“Why are you getting so fucking defensive? I’m trying to do you a favor; you don’t have to act like such a bitch!”

“I never asked you to do me a favor.”

The car came to a halt at the stop light. Jillien began to gather her belongings and removed Caleb’s jacket from her shoulders.

“Thanks for the date…and the rose. It was great until it wasn’t. Bye.”

Caleb turned his head quickly towards her and saw her digging around in her purse. “You’re getting out here?”

Jillien rolled her eyes. “What does it look like? You’re a smart boy, you’ll figure it out.”

He was pissed to say the least. “Just try and open the fucking door, it’s useless. You’ll find that it doesn’t open from the inside.”

“Oh, really?” she said as she raised an eyebrow in a ‘you wanna bet?’ sort of way. On that note, to his surprise, she opened the door and stepped out. “I took off the child’s lock before we headed back. Have a nice life.” She closed the door and walked away.

As soon as the light turned green, Caleb trailed next to her with his window down, trying to convince her to get back into the car. There was mixed motives to his actions. Not only did he want her to get back into the car for safety reasons, but he needed her to get in to reassure himself that he still had a chance at having some kind of relationship with her. Any hope of that now was shattered when she told him to have a nice life.

Releasing a huge sigh, he again called out to her. “Can I at least call you?”

Jillien stopped suddenly and laughed in a cruel manner. “Of course you can call me. Though I do believe it would be difficult to do so without my number.”

Caleb cursed under his breath. He had forgotten that little detail. Using his quick-thinking skills, Caleb sped ahead of her, parked, and rushed back towards the angry woman. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out one of his many business cards. Patiently he waited for her to reach him. Unfortunately, Jillien had decided that she would remain indifferent to this man’s presence and began to pass him without a second thought. Acting quickly, he turned and grabbed her wrist. “Wait a minute.”

Jillien stopped, only shifting her eyes to look at him. “It seems you are incapable of taking a hint. By ‘have a nice life,’ I meant I don’t want to see you anymore.”

“Just give me a minuet to set things right… please,” his voice was laced with desperation and determination.

“You have thirty seconds to say what you have to say; ten if I don’t like what’s spewing out of your mouth.”

Caleb cleared his throat, and quickly ran through his mental list of effective lines. “Listen, I know that tonight ended on a bad note; however, I felt something between us, something strong. Please, I can’t live my life knowing that I’ll never get to see you again. I want, no I need to see you. To tell you the truth, I know you want to see me too.”

Jillien turned, the annoyed, pissed off look on her face was now replaced by a sweet smile. “Oh Caleb, when will you ever learn that corny, cliché, overused movie magic lines and situational romantic mush crap, may woo those airhead bimbos that you must regularly date, do not work on me. In fact, it’s quite a turn off. As for the number, if you do manage to get a hold of it and work up the guts to call me, please indulge me with something classy and original.” Sighing, she took the card out of his hand and replaced it with the rose he had given her earlier that evening. “You’re a great guy. Go find a girl that will appreciate you and your unoriginal romanticism. I’m not interested.” With that, she continued on her way home, leaving the astound man behind.
