Remembering a Promise
((ATTENTION! This story and it's characters are the product of my own imagination. If they bear any resemblance to yours I am sorry.))
Sorry that this chapter is going to be short everyone. It was supposed to be this way so that it could lead on to the next one which will be much longer. Unfortunately I have to re-write the next one since it was lost. Again, I'm sorry. Well, on to the story!
Happy reading!

Grey walked around for a while after 'The Incident' as he was calling it now. He couldn't understand how Prince Ki could just claim him like that, then lean down for a kiss. Lord Demos had walked in on them and Grey had reacted almost violently, shoving the prince down on his back. Demos' face confused Grey though. Instead of anger, he showed a slight reaction of fear. His face was pale and his eyes were wide with surprise, almost like something he didn't want to admit. Grey walked over to Prince Ki's room and took a deep breath. It was time for dinner but he didn't want to face the prince again after such a embarrassing moment. He let out the breath he had been holding and gently rapped at the door.
"Who is it?" came a voice from inside the room.
Grey paused for a moment. The voice he heard wasn't the prince's so who could it be? He slowly opened the door and peeked his head inside. He saw the Prince, but he didn't see who called through the door. As he entered his arm was grabbed and twisted behind him. Grey cried out in pain and Ki rushed over to him.
"Drop him you idiot!" shouted Ki.
Grey's attacker released him and Grey was dropped into Ki's arms. He nuzzled closely, seeking comfort from the scare he had just experienced. Ki tightened his arm around Grey and kissed the top of his head. He glared up at the shadow behind the door.
"What did I do?" came Darin's voice from the shadow.
"You attacked the slave I chose!" Ki shouted. It suddenly dawned on Grey where he was. He jumped up and backed away. It drew Ki's attention away from his friend and toward Grey.
"What's wrong?" Ki asked gently.
"Don't start that again!" Grey accused. "You're treating me like furniture! I may be a slave but I am still a person! Besides you can't just 'choose' me, Lord Demos has refused to sell me hundreds of times."
Ki looked confused. He stood again and walked over to Grey, holding his hands in the air as a sign of peace. "What are you talking about?" Ki asked. "Do you not know of the agreement between my father and Lord Demos?"
Grey's glare softened and he shook his head gently. "What agreement?" he asked softly. "I thought the King was here only to give Master Demos his new position in the kingdom."
"That's true," Darin stated, a strong sense of disdain in his voice. "But as payment for such a high position he is to hand over half his land and one slave of the Prince's choosing to be the Prince's escort till he marries."
Grey stared at the Prince wide-eyed. "And you chose me?! To be your escort?!"
Ki walked closer and wrapped his arms around Grey gently. "How could I not?" he asked sweetly, his eyes glittering with happiness. "I have dreamt of you every night since I first heard of the arrangement. I can't think straight I want you so much."
Grey wriggled free and ran out to the hall, pausing outside the door. "Well as…romantic as that sounds, I think not." Grey told Ki, his voice laced with anger. "I wouldn't want to go with anyone who can't even remember the fact that he has known me since I was a child."
Ki and Darin both looked at Grey like he was crazy. "How could the Prince have ever known you?" Darin accused. "He grew up at the palace. You're just a slave."
Tears began to form in Grey's eyes. He knew the Prince would never remember him or the promise he made, but it still hurt just the same. He had fallen in love when he was a child and that love was still there, just now he knew it would never be returned. He was nothing but a slave to the Prince, soon to be his escort, his concubine. He would abandon Grey as soon as he found a wife and Grey would be alone again. As the tears rolled down his cheeks Grey pulled out a small gold chain. On the chain was a small silver ring that Ki had given him the day before he was taken away. It was the 'symbol of his promise' as Ki had said that day. Looking at it Grey got angry, angry at himself for believing in Ki and angry at Ki for forgetting him. Grey balled his fist and flung the ring at Ki, hitting him in the head.
"Dinner is ready," Grey hollered from down the hall as he stormed off. "Come downstairs when you're ready, Your HIGHNESS."
Ki rubbed the sore spot on his head, and Darin leaned down to pick up the small object.
"Looks like he threw this at you," Darin mentioned softly, holding up the chain, ring dangling at the end.
Ki looked down at the ring and his eyes widened in horror. "It can't be!" Ki exclaimed. He grabbed the chain from Darin and held it up to his eyes. Inside were the words, 'Ki and Grey, best friends for life'. Ki dropped the ring, and everything came rushing back to him at once. The promise, their friendship, how much he cared for Grey back then, everything. And suddenly it dawned on Ki. Grey had been dreaming of his promise this entire time, and all he did was treat Grey like a love slave. Ki fell to his knees and he couldn't stop himself from breaking down. Darin had never seen his friend like that and he didn't know what to do. He wrapped a comforting arm around Ki and waited for Ki to open up. But he didn't get the chance, for a few seconds later a scream ripped through the hallways. Ki heard it and jumped up, running toward the scream. He came up to find Demos standing over Grey on the floor with a sword. All Ki could see was Grey and blood, then everything went black.

Like I said, short. I will have the next one up in about a week though so don’t worry. I'll see you all then. Later.
Oh! Don't forget, R&R and feel free to add a little criticism to help me improve. Later!
