Ch.5 A decaying sense of eloquence.
The things that he felt and the things that he did with time felt like falling into a new skin. He went without fear and hardly made a whimper. Navarro knew something was going on at home something secretive and somehow special. Ace was so shy now yet bottled up trying to act tough and overly steeled. Gwen blushed manically; at him any time he sat close enough to touch her hands. The nights when Sydney had to fly away on business he would stay with his family at The Playground not much had changed but the people themselves. Everyone seemed happy, save for his father who bore a skittish outlook on his personality traits, which differed greatly compared to the years before hand. Late at night when he kissed her soft cheeks and played with her platinum hair letting it spill through his lean fingers like dry dripping silk particles, Navarro would feel butterflies inside his stomach and force himself to shut his eye’s tight. Block them out. If he couldn’t see them they weren’t there. No matter how hard I shut my eye’s he thought they’d always be there. He knew he wanted them there, how could he not? But oh the agony of watching his best friend his private savior fall in love with his figuratively speaking sister. There was no doubt in his mind that’s what was happening, the way they stared at one another and danced like jeweled beings in the twilight, they both loved him to of course but it was not the same…just not the same. Was he jealous? Sure who wouldn’t be. Miserable? Nah. It was bound to happen sooner or later he saw it all crashing in around him when he met Sydney at the bar how willingly they allowed him to go on his own. They felt embarrassed perhaps to flirt with one another with him around their fearless leader who couldn’t hold his liquor would be embarrassing of course why hadn’t he thought of it before? No, no don’t’ blame them he thought it wasn’t fair to blame them this was their decision and they’d even come to him smiling and full of warm kisses telling him of the great joyous news. How wonderful! He’d said. My babies together you make a lovely couple, you’re like a prince and princess who would’ve thought. In hearing this however they’d each given him a concerned bubbling look. Though neither spoke they both sensed it. He hates us together. They thought it so softly he could barely feel it pricking against his pale flesh. Don’t worry I’ll come around. He told them with a grin I always do, so no worries cheer up your in love go out and feed each other chocolate bon bon’s or something. A wave of a hand, be gone with you he thought quietly inside his mind, leave so I can stop biting my tongue. He always felt better when his uncle would take him out or his father, treat him like they used to talk about different subjects and tease him about Sydney. They liked Sydney very, much which surprised him greatly. Sydney was one of kind he was like a rare bottle of wine only found in some remote country that everyone knew of yet had never been to. The remote country probably had tons of poisonous snakes as well and whoever was stupid enough to travel alone probably got bitten and died in a ditch somewhere. But that part wasn’t important. Navarro tried his best to go out with Gwen and Ace to the clubs when Sydney was not home but it become ever more difficult for him to concentrate on them his mind would wonder and the music barely registered within his eardrums. Sydney finally took a two-week vacation and asked if he could please meet Navarro’s family he worried they disliked him and more so whether they had any idea where their boy was going for nights on end staying in a big empty house sometimes by himself watching movies and eating ice cream. Navarro was hesitant at first but he soon gave in. Dressed in his best Sydney dolled him up as well and they headed to The Playground, Butterflies mincing his windpipe to kibbles, he held Sydney’s hand in a death grip. A kiss on the mouth calmed him slightly but the butterflies remained ever present and raw. His hair was straightened by now and fell in soft gentle wisps along his high cheekbones and angular jaw line. Ian watched him closely something was odd, about all this his son was clearly feeling left out yet not alone. Sydney met his gaze with confidence that couldn’t and would not be dashed. Standing tall in his designer duds he cleared his throat “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you Ian I’ve heard so much about you from your son, by the way I hope I haven’t been causing problems at home by stealing him away…I can be so selfish at times I forget that others need him.” Ian narrowed his eyes out of curiosity “no none at all don’t worry about it, I’ve heard a lot about you from my son as well, He tells me your interested in his…work.” Sydney smiled largely “Yes I am you see over my child hood I developed a not to easy to explain hatred towards drug users, my uncle is perfect explain he runs it through his law firms allows convicted dealers and addicts to go free without so much as a slap on the wrist in exchange for protection and better business. He’s starting to tear the precious lining of my company’s throat and my patience’s with his folly betrayal to his own kin is wearing dreadfully thin.” He took a seat next to Navarro pulling him into his lap and playing with the hair on the back of his head twisting straight strands into frumpy curls. “I assure you Ian I’m not using your son to save my business I care for him very dearly he’s turned into my best friend and a very loyal companion I trust him wholly. Although we do not agree on everything and that of course is to be expected. I figure I will tell you my plans right now so as not to worry you further in the future, Navarro told me of a woman named Jolene Sanders, I’ve come to understand that Miss Sanders is connected with my uncle so this is quite simple why not kill two birds with one stone.” Ian wrinkled his brows which were freshly plucked and neatly kept as always he hated looking messy “You have a very good plan here Sydney, but if your thinking of sending my son in blind sighted into your companies inner core to take down a drug lord and my ex-girlfriend your out crediting yourself by far. Your not playing God here it took us years alone to take down individual dealers times may have changed but the way they work has not.” Navarro watched the discussion as its colors played before him in florescent blacks and purples. “Ian I would never send him in alone, I’d be going in with him of course but not without help from you all, if you will help me that is. But either way your son has agreed to go in with me it would just help us all a lot more if you allowed us use of the…Kiddies as he said they were called.” Several heads popped up in the back of the great room metal clanked against it and caved in upon itself taking a deep soothing breathe of untainted restlessness. Navarro watched the Kiddies they always knew when someone was talking about them and now they were all coming to attention. “Sydney my boy do you have any idea what your asking you my want my help and I may as well give it to you and Twitches as well he’d never refuse his nephew, but as far as the Kiddies go they’ll answer themselves they may serve us to a degree but we do not own them.” Twitch sat back against a pillar column and exhaled a cavernous breath. “If we do this Ian it’ll mean were fully operational again, this will be bigger then anything we ever faced bigger then what happened to Charlie even, because it will be on their grounds, you have to remember our own empire was destroyed along with his it’s likely it will happen again but We have to try, the Gate Way must be cleared again the undergrounds decaying sooner or later there we’ll be nothing left for us to even come back to.” Sydney had kept silent for a moment noticing the distress between the two older men raising his fingers he paused in thought “I understand where your both coming from we all have different reasons for re-opening the Gate Way and through this plan I have as well with whatever idea’s anyone here has it will give each and every one of us something in return I swear it.” The discussion went on for at least two more hours debating what was the proper choice and finally Ian himself stood up standing above Sydney “Alright Sydney you have our word we’ll help you, but you must promise me you will stay by my son’s side through this, we all have our demons to battle, and all I have to say is leave Miss Sanders to me no one is to bother her until I give word and I will be the one to deliver it do you understand me?” Sydney stood with Navarro at his hip looking up at him with sparkling eye’s shaking Ian’s hand he nodded “Yes Sir we have ourselves an agreement, you’re a killer talker Ian you should go into Business sometime.” Ian grinned now “Perhaps I should.” Twitch raised a brow looking at Ian puzzled “You’re a crazy loon Ian you never change.” “Oh shut up Twitch you love me this way.” Twitch waved a hand leaning back “Alright, alright you win.” Several people giggled upon hearing this and things become quite gleeful. Navarro felt himself more fulfilled and fill of simplicity leaning against Sydney chest they watched a movie with the others feeling his fathers hand grip his own he gave it a light touch to show he was there in both body and mind. Gwen laid her head down against Acelins shoulder as everyone but they were watching the movie, her heart felt as if it were breaking and she didn’t now why. Ace leaned his head down kissing the crown of her skull “What’s wrong?” he whispered noticing her lost stare. “Oh…nothing…I was just wondering about something Ace…you’ll protect Nav won’t you” “yeah Of course when he asks me to…but he sort of has a new boy toy now so…I suppose Sydney will protect him a lot of the time now if not himself.” She frowned “He needs you still Ace he needs us both just as much as he needs Sydney and his father he needs us all. We can’t shut him out and make our own world he’s part of our world whether we see it that way or not.” Ace’s eye’s watered slightly and he coughed on a lump forming inside his throat this was all true he knew it. He had no idea what he’d been thinking, quietly ignoring Navarro trying to see if there was life without him because there wasn’t. That much was clear, they both only hoped he could forgive them because they weren’t sure how largely the issue had blown up to be. Only time would tell and with the on coming plans there choice of words and actions would mean the utter most importance. If they didn’t get it right everything would fall apart. And there would be hope for no one. Gwen kissed his jaw line quietly and looked towards Navarro who was staring at them both with wide eye’s the movie was clearly boring him but Sydney was quite engrossed. She nudged Ace and they both stood up scooting there way over and laid down against the two of then introducing themselves to Sydney who was happy to meet them and allowed Gwen to rest her head on his thigh and Ace to use Navarro stomach as a pillow. Navarro was shocked by all this and didn’t quite know what to say. Gwen figured this was a good enough time as ever to start rebuilding their friendship “Navarro…” “Yes…Gweny” his voice was filled with unsure tones bouncing off the walls and ceiling, “I’m sorry we ignored you we want to be a team again, you know one big happy family.” Sydney had to smile at the three of them and found Navarro looking to him for judgment, this caused him to shake his head “Navarro I won’t choose for you this is your decision but I do suggest you say yes to her it’s a very good offer we could use nice, fun people like them at the house when I’m away on trips so your not so lonely.” Navarro perked at this comment staring at his former team mates and paused momentarily “um…Yes I’d like that very much by the way…I really am happy for you both.” Gwen smiled kissing his arm, which was the only thing she could reach “Thank you Navarro we won’t let you down.” Ace nodded “not a chance buddy your stuck with us.” They all snickered a moment and soon returned to the movie. Perhaps things would be okay. Time would only tell.
The music pounded away beating against the walls and slaughterhouse style flooring. Though no one was dancing not a soul was even there. It was one of those nights when one on of the Kiddies could stand to stay indoors they worked as one mind if one’s skin began to crawl all their bodies writhed in a chewing knurling twist. Twitch lay in bed eye’s half closed in wreck-less lumber metal claws clinked now and then in rhythmic sync. He and Ian were the only one’s home at the moment everyone else seemed to have vanished in a haste to celebrate the weekend. Undisturbed sleep just wouldn’t come he sighed in frustration his chin length hair tickling his dry lips. His daughter was at some dinner party with Ace. Sydney and Navarro apparently had disappeared to his home. Ian was in the bath tub counting ceiling tiles silently to himself the water was so hot against his milky white skin that with each subtle twist he winced audibly gritting his teeth and once again for the ninth time tonight lost count on the tiles. Twitch sat up cracking his back loudly “I’m bored as all hell, Ian make something exciting happen” Ian craned the back of his head against the tubs rim lazily allowed his fingers to trail down his stomach and stop just short of his lower navel “No, You make something exciting happen” his voice was running slightly cranky and Twitch made face “First time in years that we’ve had time to ourselves Ian and you can’t think a single thing to do?” “No…I can’t Twitch,” sounding as jagged as broken glass shards inside of a Kool Aid slurpy. He turned his face away. Twitch rolled his eye’s “Stop being a baby and we’ll go out and have some fun eh? Just like old times.” Ian answered him by getting out of the tub and angrily storming nude to the closet pulling on whatever he found and turning to glare at his friend “Why should I! Can’t you see I’m trying to be upset?” Twitch shrugged helplessly “Upset about what? Ian I don’t understand what your talking about” “Neither do I…I just feel so cramped up inside Twitch I feel cooped up here” Coming up he hugged him from behind. “I get how you feel Ian I think we both just need to go out and do something you know? Really go out on the town and enjoy ourselves we deserve it.” Ian paused; shyly feeling less surrounded suddenly “Can we go crash Parties twitch? Or maybe go see Naomi’s friends on the corner near the theaters I miss some of them and I know most remember us they used to call Naomi all the time in Vegas she’d lie though…and say it as a wrong number.” Twitched smiled “Well duh some of them remember us I think we clothed and sent a few of them to college, but sure baby anything you want.” It was odd how they felt they hadn’t conquered the past, it seemed every new day as another chance to keep up the endless battle to push back whatever forces they were fighting just a fraction of an inch more then before. Twitch felt more at ease inside his gross dirty little Volvo. It hummed loudly beneath him and scuffled nicely along the road. Ian never did have good luck with cars so he wasn’t allowed to unbuckle himself and get out of the car until Twitch actually stopped the car and got out first. He grumbled when Twitch purposely took to long to get his ass out of the car. The girls at the corner were absolutely ecstatic to see the boys it had been a long time and as Twitch had instructed Mayo and the other to take care of the girls the best they could during winter and when one couldn’t pa the rent. They done as told so the girls were thanking them being such gentlemen still after all this time, even bothering to care about them. Some of the girls had quit the work and moved away but most stayed of the most part. They were well fed had decent clothing on and it all made it worth awhile to Twitch to see them smile and be healthy. He’d worked hour s to get them nice and proper things. People didn’t understand why most of them work as prostitutes it was never as simple as going into a fast food shop and asking to apply. Regardless of their upbringings some just couldn’t get a break in life, so Twitch broke his spine in several pieces as a young adult to give them that break, Ian had gone out of his way to protect them on the street so in other words the girls were quite thankful. All of them said not a single word about Naomi’s death to Ian they had been so happy when she wrote to there apartment building telling them about the weeding in Vegas. They’d all jokingly been jealous that she was marrying Ian she’d sounded strangely unsure however when she talked to a few of them on the phone and soon enough she stopped calling all together. Sitting all over the apartment one of the girls noticed Ian had simply turned invisible, standing up here high heels snapping like atomic bubble gum against the roof of her mouth against the wood flooring. Peeking inside one of the girls room’s she clamped a hand over her mouth, Ian had found Claire baby daughter who was around two years old sitting beside her in front of the TV he giggled at the cartoon show and Claire daughter Sophie started up at him surprised they rare had any men in the house so Ian was like an Alien to little Sophie but she was very pleased have found a playmate since every one was normally so busy. The girls watched quietly as Twitch loomed beside them Claries was gone working and Sophie was supposed to be napping, Twitch murmured to one of the eldest girls “Where’s the baby’s daddy?” She shrugged in honest dislike of hearing about the man “long gone before Claire even had Sophie she was heart broken but we stuck by her we take care of Sophie we all put money aside for her to get pretty cloths for when school starts for her.” He nodded “You girls know I’ll do all that you don have to “ She touched his arm “No Twitch we need to do this for Claire and Sophie on our own you’ve taught us a lot now let us put it to use.” It was hard to sit in the back seat but he quitted slightly and changed the subject “I think Ian’s found himself a new friend do you think Claire will mind?” Shaking her head Laura responded “She needs male figures around it’s best if it’s the two of you plus I think some of it will help Ian you know how he loves kids.” Most of the girls sat back with Twitch on the couch and Ian picked Sophie up after a time and began to dance around with her in his arms. After awhile he allowed her to play with his hair, “When does Claire normally get off work?” Ian asked suddenly and no one seemed to understand his concern until they got a look at the clock on the green painted wall near the tiny kitchen nook. Twitch was out the door before anyone could take another breathe Ian stayed put holding Sophie softly and patting her tiny little back. Sophie was very small in size and had big blue eye’s, her hair was a humbled of strawberry blonde locks, She reminded him of Sydney. Who had almost punished blonde hair like pink champagne, he was well built but very model slender slightly wide hips and very high cheek bones, Ian pondered for a moment whether or not Claire was just a few hours late or not Sophie was seemingly very fidgety and he adjusted her against s his shoulder “Laura have the girls been alright going out lately?” he watched the woman gulp down her fear in a mouth full of bitter struggle, “Not exactly a few quit because some guy kept harassing them and threaten to knife them. Yea know just trying to scare a lot of us.” his stomach turned “I knew we were cutting it close leaving you all” “No Ian you all had lives to start don’t go blaming yourself this stuff happens okay? Twitch will find her she’s probably eating dinner with a ‘John’ or something.” Ian jumped slightly when the phone rang and Sophie began to cry. Something told him Laura was wrong. Very, very wrong.
It was Twitch on the line there’d been an incident; Claire would not be coming home. He’d been too late, the police had been swarming the area he was only able to see them wheel a covered body away, showing a cop a card of his from the morgue in Vegas he was allowed to follow the ambulance back to the hospital. Biting his lip angrily he half blamed himself he only hoped Claire hadn’t been scared that she’d fought till the very end. Standing above the body totally decked out in scrubs he began the procedure to what he’d learned as every day life. He’d had to pull some strings of course in order to do this. She was marked as a Jane Doe no family or anything they’d had little qualms in general in hearing this from him. He’d fought back tears while making the ‘y’ incision, along her chest cavity recording the cause of death just before, The man he guessed it had to of been a man since you needed slight force to carry out this disgusting deed that had been done onto Claire, he’d taken what seemed to be a switch blade knife and inserted it along the breast just underneath it and stabbed with all the strength they had running it cleanly under the breast, blood spilling down her front side. He barely got through the autopsy the night had turned into garbage and he now had to find the lunatic who did this. The girls weren’t going to be working for a while he’d make sure of it, find something else for them to do. He sighed dialing the apartment; he was the bringer of bad news. Ian stood still in the middle of the apartment still, as most of the girls were scared out of their minds crying hysterically, Sophie had finally fallen asleep once more in his arms and she silently wondered if they were destine to curse everyone they met now Sophie was an orphan a no name child in his arms, he felt tears stinging his eye’s with brute force he’d take her with his to The Playground and let one of the eldest girls help him figure something out. It seemed the underworld wanted to star the wart again and well he’d do better then make them pay, he’d bring the fight to their doorstep. Improvident of Sydney’s plans to wait. If Sydney’s uncle wanted to start the fight right this minute then so be it. He and Twitch had been around the Underground long enough to know that 98% of the time a loony who just came out cutting up girls in the middle of night on empty streets was most often or not sent out to yank their chains a little. Because normally no one even insane was stupid enough to come to their side of town so there was no mistaking this as a threat. He wondered if they all realized everyone was in over their heads.
Decaying scents filled his nose as he sat along he rooftop. Nordolf his employer had given him an easy enough job. Take down a few whores to rile some cages, no problem consider it done he told the man. Nordolf had been worried in hearing that the Basher was back in the Underground along with the Albino King. Business had been booming as they say. But this sudden threat from out of the blue had his business standing on it’s tip toe’s, nails strangulating their veins. The plot was thickening very strangely indeed as the man’s trashy girlfriend had been murdered out on the convention center patio, nose ripped clean off her face. It was Basher style with a sick new twist. The worst part was that Nordolf’s wicked little nephew had been there the last to really speak to her poor trash little girl alive. Someone swore they saw the Basher lead her outside along the garden, but it was like looking into the past. They all heard the rumor of the Albino Kings’ child but the news of Navarro made their blood run thin and cold. Sydney had warned his uncle to stay away from him and his company but the boy had come off foolish and Nordolf had ignored his threats. In hearing about Linda the man had called him up giving him his instructions and paid him in full before leaving him to his job.
The gravel strewn out across the flat rooftop crunched rather noisily beneath his shoes. Biting down on the lit cigarette in his mouth he inhaled deeply filling his gray tar streaked lungs with nicotine that calmed his rattling nerves. Easy job or not these people freaked him out. One way to put it was they had very interesting reputations. He figured after this last job there would be no going back to it, they were catching on far to quickly and by now after seeing the Albino King at the crime scene he made sure to cover his tracks as best he could, he hadn’t left anything behind that he knew of and there was no possible way they could pin the murders or assaults on him. Besides Nordolf had his back, even if he did get arrested, convicted, and so forth he wouldn’t be in prison for long, the guy took good care of his people or so he thought. Despite his new found nicotine induced confidence, Jacob found his fingers tingling and his eye’s burning. Putting out his cigarette with the heel of his shoe he glanced around him once or twice to be certain, before carrying about his way and heading towards the fire escape. Sliding half way down the fire escape he stopped dead. Down below him were several small children all dressed in club cloths, they smiled wide and sweetly up at him, from below they’re teeth were glinting like five sets of 32 miniature knives. He could faintly see all of them were holding objects of small insignificant destruction. He had no idea how long it took him to decide when to go back up the fire escape ladder, but he knew he’d better make up his mind, quickly because the children below began to giggle loudly hearing him screech like a little girl, feeling the ladder viciously shake from above. He gripped the metal in his sweaty palms and felt his heart exceed its normal pulse rate. One of the children below had seemingly become more daring then the others, or perhaps was too impatient to wait till he fell off the ladder and broke his neck to come after him. The little bugger had stabbed his ankle right through the pant leg and sock he wore digging into his living flesh a hefty dental tool or something to that effect. Screaming until his lungs hurt profusely he struggled to kick them away, luckily for him the child had a lousy grip on his leg and fell to the ground with a soft thud. The child quickly recovered however and soon joined the others once more below him giggling in a sensibly cracked sort of way. Several of them began to circle the under side of the ladder as if debating on sending another little monster up to terrorize him. Hired killer or not Jacob was actually near tears he felt totally preposterous sniveling up in mid air hanging on for dear life and screaming like a 7yr old school girl whenever the ladder gave another fierce rattle. Soon enough whoever it was above him seemed to be enjoying his suffering far too much and finally craned their head over the side of the building holding onto the railing they smiled gently down at him. Jacob looked above him, caution leaking out his nose and ears dribbling down his neck and through his shirt. The Albino King stared down at him his classic kitty cat grin spelling Jacobs certain doom, “Jacob my dear boy how are you? I do believe this is your first time meeting my children and I, so I’ll make our introductions very swift so we may get down to business, I am Twitch the Albino King as you probably have heard, and those lovely little darlings below are my children or better known as Kiddies. You know Jacob technology is such an amazing thing these days.” Twitch said as he leaned against the top railing making it shudder erotically and forcing him to ignore its ever-present discomfort as it dug into his shoulder. “I found out so much about you in less then the 15 minutes it took me to drive down here and find you, your very noisy and I must admit I’m impressed at how long you’ve managed to live working for someone like Nordolf, you may have hidden your tracks from the police but your forgetting the most important clue’s to your crimes, the dead may be dead Jacob and they can still speak to you if you listen hard enough. Plus this elderly lady on fifth and Barstow saw you scaling a rooftop and thought it very strange and called the police to report a robbery but they dismissed it as idiocy.” Twitch paused watching Jacob squirm on the ladder trying to keep his footing and glancing down between his legs every now and again to see if any of the Kiddies were making another attempt. His ankle hurt so badly his shoe felt like it was filling full of blood heavy and globed up like shoving your hand in molding dough. Toes sticking together in mock frustration he whimpered sadly. Twitch raised a salon style eyebrow and continued his little talk with Jacob “But enough about that, it doesn’t matter now, Jacob I want you to understand I have no sympathy for you whatsoever and I’m going to give you a choice, but your most likely not going to like it at all. You can either come up and deal with me, or you can go down there and play with my children. I’ve been teaching them about the human anatomy Jacob their very eager learners, they’ve been looking forward to trying out their new found knowledge on a human test subject.” Jacob just about swallowed his tongue. “Now then my dear little lab rat, You also have a third choice, it sounds a hell of a lot better then the other two choices I assure you of that so listen closely, you see that dumpster exactly ten feet from you?” Jacob turned his head it felt like a rotating joint in need of precious oil but all he got was gritty sand. Nodding that he saw it Twitch nodded in return “if you can jump from the ladder to the top of the dumpster I promise to let you go, the kiddies won’t touch you I promise, I want you to give Nordolf a message, simply that it’s best if he not declare war on us just yet we highly doubt he’s even remotely ready for anything past a water balloon fight. Now what will your choice be make it quick I’m going to a movie later tonight and I don’t want the tickets to be sold out.” Jacob reasoned out his chances and actually thought for a split second he could get away with making the jump onto the nasty little dumpster. He stared up at Twitch a moment before letting him know his petrified decision. The Albino King nodded in approval waving a hand freely as if to say ‘go ahead’ glancing down at the Kiddies he held his breathe and Twitch made an awful sneer. He’d never make it. Twitch would guarantee it. Nordolf was playing a dangerous game with them. Sending a man out to murder his friends was a wrong choice of judgment. Jacob would pay that was for sure. The Kiddies stopped in place watching as Jacob made the pathetic leap of non-faith. The man of 29yrs, two possible murder convictions, the reputation of being a whore-killer and the owner of an 89 thunderbird, plummeted through the air like a bloated fat filled slab of sociably rotting meat. His feet however did touch the side of the dumpster, Twitch had innocently failed to tell Jacob that he had to totally make it onto the dumpsters closed top in order be allowed to leave. Boot tips grazing the lids outer mouth, before scraping down the side and allowing the concrete below to crush what was left of his wounded ankle. Muscle imploding upon bone and cartilage, while blood and other bodily fluids secreted through broken creases in the flesh along the bones that connected up into the kneecap. Jacob was denied the pleasure of screaming; one of the Kiddies wasted no time in pouncing top of him holding his face down and began extracting his teeth straight out of his mouth. But soon became tired of his screeches and held his gurgling mouth shut with both tiny hands. As he thrashed and bucked against him he felt all sorts tiny hands touching his body gripping sore spots and yanking his ruined foot till it was nearly hanging on by a thread. Jacob would only survive for a matter of three hours after the whole ordeal the Kiddies always tried to make fast work of there jobs, but Twitch had strictly instructed them to take their sweet time on this one. They’d do unto him as he had done to Claire only the outcome of the situations needs would be escalated ten fold. Twitch left them to their civic duties and headed down towards the other side of the building scaling down where Ian sat waiting, sucking on a peach lollipop. “How’d it go?” Ian asked quietly having heard bits and pieces of the conversation but nothing more past that and muffled screams, “Not to bad I think I did a good job of restating my status as the Albino King. I’m surprised you didn’t want to join me, the guy was a inconsequential loser not much to him.” Ian slurped slightly taking the candy treat out of his mouth “Nah I didn’t want to wake Sophie up she just went back to sleep.” He said pointing to the car, and sure enough Sophie was sound asleep in the front passenger seat propped up inside a wrecked car seat probably discontinued from the 1980’s and cushioned with lots of fluffy pillows. Twitch wrinkled his nose “Why on earth do you still have Claire’s baby Ian the girls are capable of caring for her you didn’t have to drag the poor bundle of vital organs out into the hot muggy night.” Ian lessened his attention on the sucker, “Twitch the girls are losing their minds their best friend is dead and I just feel like it’s our fault Claire’s dead in the first place, so instead of wondering if she’s up ‘there’” he said emphasizing his words by pointing up towards the sky. “Id like to think she’s happy we’re taking care of Sophie then her sitting up there flipping us both off and condemning us to the fiery pits of hell that were only reserved for members of boy bands and the man who played Barney the purple dinosaur.” Twitch paused in thought and had to admit the moron in front of him was correct. Ian proceeded to slap his arm getting the sucker stuck in a mass of Twitches beautiful hair “I’m a damn sexy moron I’ll have you know!” Twitch glared at him “you’ll be a sticky dead moron if you don’t get that freaking candy galosh out of my hair.” Ian stopped “…Not only did that sound wrong considering you’re a mortician, but what in God’s name of holy butter on toast monkeys is a galosh?” “Ian do me a couple huge favors.” “Uh yeah sure?” Twitch ripped the sucker out of his hair throwing it against the wall and watched it shatter into a sticky hairy mess onto the pavement “Get in the car, don’t worry what a galosh is and get us out of here!” He yelled the last part and Ian huffed hearing Sophie begin to cry, “Look what you’ve done you galosh abuser.” Twitch rubbed his itching nose in aggravation “Ian! A galosh is a stupid freaking water proof shoe alright now get in the damn car.” Ian smiled now rather adorably “See I win. Your still a fat head you made Sophie cry.” Twitch growled “One more word out of you and there’ll be no more popcorn for you at the movies and you can forget about chocolate covered raisins.” Ian got into the car watching him closely arms crossed in mock pouting formation, Twitch started the car and looked at him through the rear view mirror “Don’t you dare say it Ian…Don’t you dare.” Ian grinned despite himself and knew it was probably totally worth it in the end, as they drove in total silence Ian burst into giggles “Your…” Twitch glared. “Don’t say it Ian.” More giggling was all he replied at first “A” “No Ian shut your trap.” “Fat…head…There I said you’re a freaking fat head Twitch you eat cat litter!” Twitch slapped himself in the face as they rounded the corner towards the turn off to The Playground. “What does cat litter, have to do with it Ian that’s so stupid it doesn’t even make any sense at all.” Ian wiped his mouth slightly tasting the peach lollipop still totally tickled pink with himself “ It has absolutely nothing to do with it Twitch it’s just so much fun pushing your buttons you get all flustered and this vein in your forehead pops out I think it’s a medical disorder.” Twitch gripped the steering wheel tighter glancing at Sophie who seemed ultimately pleased with the show they were putting on “Ian do me one more favor.” “Sure thing baby.” “Shut up before I kill you.” Ian smiled unperturbedly “You know you love it.” Ian yelped in mock shell shock as Twitch slapped him upside the head in triumphant victory of the conversation ending. Sophie merely giggled a half toothless squeal. At least one person in this car was having a good time.
Subjects in your life change so quickly don’t they?
After the little incident with the mega tramp, and the nasty little whore-killer who was found practically gutted in an alley somewhere a freshly lit cigarette propped between his lips with dead ease, things slowly but ever so drastically changed. It became very hard indeed to get into Sydney’s office for starters. It hadn’t taken long at all for them to know that Sydney’s dazzlingly beautiful guest was possibly there worst enemy. Twitch and Ian were keeping a sharp watch on Nordolfs people not trusting them for a moment and stationing Kiddies outside his buildings posing as rich kids walking home, buying food, seeing the sights whatever gave them the upper hand. People were quite busy, these days and as Sydney sat in his swiveling chair he bent back resting his feet against the window seal and stared down at the traffic below. Navarro lay curled up on his side wearing his pajamas still with his combat boots on, and his trench coat over everything else. Navarro had picked out his pajama’s himself they were sky blue with tons of yellow rubber ducks plastered all over them. His delicate lean little fingers dipped into a small rectangular box ever now or so, pulling back up and delivering to his mouth a toasty goldenly sweet animal cracker. He’d also picked them out on their trip to the grocery store. And if your wondering if he managed to weasel a few quarters out of Sydney for the bouncy ball machine on the way out you are most certainly correct. He’d been a good boy all day watching cartoons on mute, eating cookies, sipping Pepsi’s, and taking naps. While Sydney had been through three public meetings with other corporate brats and worked through a nasty pile of paper work to finish and close some deal with a nutty little man from Japan who was going to open a chain of new and exciting Australian restaurants along Orange County and back down towards Sacramento. Things were finally winding down and Sydney took a long loud breathe of air and turned his chair back around towards his desk, noticing Navarro’s position on the couch and how he was glued to the television. Biting the head off of a lion animal cracker, mumbling to himself that the cookie had committed a hideous crime and was demanded to be put to death. So he bit it’s head off and then smiled before consuming the rest of the poor creatures crumbling body. Sydney smiled feeling a slight yawn coming on but he restrained himself and held it in. Ira had said his package from the Roberto Cavalli clothing store had arrived while he was in his third business meeting of the day. Lazily bouncing from his chair towards the little lobby room the was Ira’s desk space he found the package nestled against the desk and the computer on it’s table top. Rooting through it he found she’d ordered just what he wanted and he turned on a sharp heel and returned inside his office. The door behind him shut with a quiet swish and it was actually loud enough to catch his little Basher’s attention away from the television and to the bag he held neatly in the air above him. Rolling over onto his back he looked up at Sydney a smile dancing a long his lips “A gift you shouldn’t have.” Snatching the bag in mid air Sydney took a seat on the couch and waited to see his reaction to what he’d bought him. Navarro pulled out first a pair of Roberto Cavalli denim jeans with a five-pocket style, oriental pattern all over it in a soft gray color with splashes of dusted yellow along the little song birds that flew along the upper thigh and hip. The shirt was a Versace, it had a crewneck, with short sleeves the logo scattered throughout it in a transparent black gothic lettering, other wise the shirt was done in a light grayish black. Some lettering on the logo has thin wisps of yellowish gold trim on it. Sydney had even managed to snag him a pair of silk boxers, which read along the elastic band “The owner of these boxers belongs to Sydney Roderick if lost please return immediately.” Rolling his eye’s humorously, Navarro sat up leaning his head against Sydney’s collar bone and kissing his lower jaw “thanks honey you shouldn’t have gotten me all this stuff I could have run home and changed.” Running his fingers through his hair Sydney said “I like buying you things Navarro, plus we don’t have enough time to run home and change cloths so I had Ira go out and grab you this outfit.” Raising a brow he sat up fully “Where are we going I thought this was our play day…you know no work go home cuddle and watch movies?” Sydney couldn’t hide his frown “I’m sorry Nav but it’s out of my hands I was invited to a late dinner and I want you to come with me, you’ll have a blast I promise, plus you deserve it after all this you’ve been doing working just hard as I have if not harder.” Navarro shrugged him off slightly and headed into his private bathroom washing his face and changing into the new cloths. Of course they fit perfectly. Why wouldn’t they? Piling into Sydney’s car they started down the road. It was just now seeming late to him and he wondered if Ace and Gwen were out at the clubs patrolling with the Kiddies. Leaning his head against the window of the car he made an annoyed huffing sound and fiddling with the seams of his new denim jeans. He was beginning to hate these parties being shown off like Sydney’s personal doll. But they made him happy Navarro realized long ago this is what made up Sydney’s life. He turned the radio on and felt the soft hum of electrical currents wash over his body making him drowsy to a slight effect that he no longer cared what they were doing. He felt Sydney’s hand brush along the curve of his throat and sink down along his side, dipping down so his finger tips rested on the inside of the jeans just beneath the top of them teasing the lining of his boxers. It was so sudden when the ticklish bliss was shattered. The sound of metal against metal caught his ears in a fierce grip that yanked them fairly enough right off his head, in figurative terms of course. Thrown forward he gasped when his head narrowing missed linking with the dash board as his seat belt locked up and flung him backwards again knocking the air from his lungs. He desperately wanted to turn to look at Sydney to see what was going on but all of a sudden the world turned over and fell into a curtain of black. He felt as if someone was holding a plastic bag over his head nothing but hot, blistering carbon monoxide against his face. He found he wasn’t scared at all, until everything went silent. That’s when he began to panic. Kicking and trouncing about riotously, finding he was trapped in such a confined space it was like smashing your face into to a brick wall. He finally sat sit breathing harshly though his nose until it burned, as if someone had taken sand paper against his bare flesh to wipe away remnants long since forgotten. He couldn’t tell if his eyes were shut or not. So he pretended they were anyway and tried to will him self out of this sudden nightmare. That’s when the pain came back to him. The realization that they’d been hit from behind by a Dodge truck on a legal red light, at 56mph. The car had completely flipped over the front end smashing in like a crushed coke can. He wondered what Sydney was thinking if he was in pain or if he was all right. Little did he know Sydney was worrying about the same things with him, Sydney knew in his own mind he’d stay by Navarro. He’d always be at his side. He didn't care whether or not Navarro liked the idea or not.
When he opened his swollen eyes, he thought he was home. But something was off the room he was in did not smell like the back room in The Playground. This one smelled of the ocean, of crushed white sand. His head swam and everything felt oh so heavy. He could faintly hear someone walking through the hallway near the bedroom he was in. When he managed to sit up he saw that he was in a little kids room or so it seemed. There were baby toys and a half assembled crib in the corner. The walls were painted in splashes of blue and yellow with big fluffy clouds floating along the artificial skyline. He way laying in a roll out bed those kinds that pop out of the walls like in the NYC apartments in all the movies. Voices reached his ears and he tried desperately to grasp what had happened and where he was. When he only remembered the first part he began to panic the thought of a stranger just picking up his probably half dead about on the highway and taking it home was actually fairly enough horrendously bad to think about. Attempting to get out of the bed he found himself standing in the center of the room, trying to get his bearings his head hurt tremendously and his hand his left hand hurt him surprisingly inadequately. It did that from time to time because the bones had never quite healed right. Navarro could still use his hands so he cared little about the healing process. At this moment however he wished he’d bothered to have them reset in the correct mannerism in which they would not pain him to an extent that forced him to whimper and cry out for Sydney. Who at that exact moment in time was sitting in a freshly redone kitchen complete with marble counter tops and cherry wood finished cabinets. Drinking a cup of coffee in shaky hands the contents of the cup swished and sloshed against the confines of its ceramic prison. Sydney looked up at there host and then towards the hall setting down his cup and just about running to the bedroom or he would have if his knee didn’t hurt him so much, when he heard Navarro start to panic finding himself in this strange place. Navarro was leaned up against the bedroom’s adjacent bathroom sink, when Sydney rounded the hallway corner and slid into the room. Rushing up he could hear Navarro crying wiping at his face and trying to make sense of everything. He was truly startled when Sydney touched his back letting him know he’d found him and he was safe. “Navarro…sweetie your alright we were in a wreck, but everything’s okay I swear look I’m alright…your just a little banged up honey, your face is kind bruised because you got wedged underneath the lower dash board and the seat it kind of smashed your skin up. But you’ll heal up you’ll look fine.” Navarro hugged him wordlessly for the longest time until he thought the boy was asleep standing up, brushing his hands along his arms he found he wasn’t asleep at all and there was hardly a chance he’d ever go back to sleep for a couple days without some help from the medicine drawer. It took some coaxing but Sydney managed to get Navarro to walk with him nice and easy outside and into the kitchen to meet the man who had helped them so much by saving them from the embarrassment of the news papers finding out about the crash as well as keeping their identities to himself. Navarro tensed when he saw the man, who’s chestnut colored roots were not coming through the once corn flower blonde hair. He stood ridged watching the man sip his own cup of coffee and he turned his head away when he watched the man set before him on the counter a tall glass of chocolate milk. Sydney looked at him “…Kurt do you really have to be ass like that.” Kurt shrugged “sorry It’s in my nature.” Turning away he began cooking something and Navarro stared at Sydney unsurely “you know that man…” “Yeah…he used to work for my uncle’s company when he was still combined with my father before he passed away. He had a restaurant down near the beachside fronts until he was assaulted in the parking lot of my uncles co-managing company, it’s were a lot of my uncles drug trade was reproduced before the business shattered and he was forced to form his own firm.” Navarro swallowed thickly and looked at Kurt. He’d seen the man before but he was not named Kurt and he was blonde…well they all thought he was naturally blonde, like the kid he was totting around with him all the time. When this occurred to Navarro he glanced around the quite still dusty beach home, not trace of the guy, “Where’s …um.uh…Ethan yeah. That’s his name he didn’t want to stay with you.” It was Kurt’s turn to stiffen and become frozen, Navarro had hit a switch somewhere inside him and he answered rather deadpan “We parted way’s the man he loved as a father is gone being Alan was fun but then again Alan was even more of a jerk then I was. Or well ended up being.” So they’d had a tiff and now he was all alone again, save for their company. Navarro sat at the kitchen counter on a bar stool with some help from Sydney who didn’t trust him to sit up on his own so he kept an arm securely around his waist. He wouldn’t touch the chocolate milk. After they were done with breakfast and not one of them had spoken a word save for Sydney asking Navarro if he wanted to go back and lye down or maybe have some more to eat. Navarro merely shook his head in response. He wasn’t sure what all of this was about but it seemed Kurt felt obligated to make sure they were alright, he seemed to be bottled up inside hiding emotions towards people he’d learned to hate over the long years of being Alan. Sydney soon picked up the plates and helped dispense them into the dish washer before going into the bathroom down the hall and taking a shower, leaving the two alone in the same room. Sydney had his own things to worry about and Navarro was a big boy if he felt threatened he wouldn’t hesitate to bite. Easing himself onto the couch near an entertainment center that held nothing inside it, he noticed Kurt watching him, he laid himself out “ So Kurt…What’s with the baby room.” Kurt ignored him for a moment and turned to sit in the chair beside the couch “Before everything went to hell, I was supposed to be a father for the first time in my life. Things went wrong though I won’t lie in fact everything went to hell. You and I and your father have a unique issue in common.” Navarro tilted his head not understanding, “We all hate Jolene Sanders.” He sat up now “What…you mean…you know her to.” He nodded “well yes she only made me believe until I was nearly gutted through the mouth by your father in that company parking lot to think that she was carrying my child. Only that day they learned an interesting fact, I cannot bare children I’m barren as a nun who cleans God’s bathroom, Id been shooting blanks for a couple years back then and hadn’t even had the slightest dead beat idea about any of it.” Navarro sat back against the couch and massaged his left hand tenderly. “My dad he told me a little about you he said you and he were very good friends…you used to let him stay here and took him out places.” Kurt’s eyes had developed a shiny film of slow forming tears that he refused to acknowledge. There was this odd tension between the two men and he waited quietly as Kurt seemed to be debating an answer. “Yes. Your father and I were very close but differences have otherwise set us apart onto a strictly business related friendship. It’s best that it stay that way, and because were on this subject Navarro you’d best do your part and take good care of Sydney he’s a wise boy but we all have our downfalls often more then once.” Navarro nodded barely feeling his own body “I’ve been hearing a lot of that lately…so have you met Gwen yet.” Kurt perked slightly out of the sound of her name. “Gwen. No I have only seen her once, she’s very beautiful like her mother. She takes after her father quite a bit though.” They sat in silence once more and he tried to look interested in a magazine on the floor but failed miserably “Kurt… do you ever wish it had been your baby?” He was surprised to see Kurt shake his head, he could have been furious with the boy for asking such a personal question. But he played it cool and stared him straight in the eye “Maybe in another life time I would have, but after seeing the kind of deceit and manipulation Jolene put out I’d rather gag on a dinner fork.” Navarro had to nod he agreed with him wholly. “Why a dinner fork?” Kurt pouched his lips in thought “Oh I don’t know it just seemed like something really painful to choke on.” The two looked at each other a moment without speaking it seemed they didn’t need to it would ruin whatever moment had formed between them. Sydney leaned against the hall entry way, He supposed it was beginning to be that time when they set up the main plans and got this horror show on the road. The planned car wreck had been one of the final straws. The era of purely manufactured eloquence was coming to an end. Sydney planned to give Nordolf nothing but unrefined mellifluousness textured hatred delicately wrapped in a thin layer of degenerated wrath sprinkled with just a dash of rosemary to give it a lovely flavor. It was a dish best served cold.
