~*~Chapter One~*~
~*~900 Years Later~*~
Sky's curiosity got the best of her this time. She's been avoiding the lake for two years, and she is now eight years old. She knew she wasn't allowed in the forest so she waited until her father and Mya were busy helping the farmers in the field to wander into the forest where the lake rested, untouched. Although she hasn't been to the lake since she wandered off a couple years ago, but to her, it seemed ages ago she had wandered off into the forest and discovered the lake, she remembered only parts of the path she took. But now's her chance; her chance to actually see the lake up close.
She ran smoothly and swiftly between the forest trees and bushes, hoping to avoid any demon that may confront her. It took her a minute to remember the exact path, but eventually, she found it.
The lake was humungous, the largest lake she had ever seen in her life, as a matter of fact, it was the largest thing she's ever seen in her life. Well, it's not a thing, but she didn't quite know what to call it, so she just called it a thing.
Something moved in the bushes, causing them to rustle.
She jumped. "Who's there?" she demanded.
The only answer she got was silence.
"Who's there?" she demanded once more.
This time, it wasn't silence that answered her. A demon, a rather large demon, popped out of the bushes, and charged at her.
She screamed and, even though it probably wasn't a good choice, she climbed right up the tree, clinging to it with her claws.
Bad choice. Very bad choice.
The demon sliced the branch off the tree with his claws, and she fell into the water at a rapid speed. The next thing she knew, she hit the water, and everything went black.
Bright lights. Very bright lights were against her face. She shielded her eyes with her arm before she opened them. Three people were surrounding her with some sort of cloth over their heads, and one of them had glasses.
"She's come to," she heard one say, and another person with the same weird cloth on his head came into view.
"Hello there, my name is Dr. Yosano. May I ask you yours?"
"My mommy told me I'm not supposed to talk to strangers. And you're pretty strange looking, so you're a stranger, so I will not tell you my name."
He chuckled. "No, I'm not a stranger, I'm a doctor. I'm a good guy."
She observed him with curious eyes. "You look strange."
"I do huh?"
"Yes, you do." She looked around at the other three. "And so do they!"
They laughed, not taking anything she said offensive.
"May I please have your name?" Dr. Yosano asked. "It is very important that we have your name."
"Oh, okay," she said. "My name is Sky."
"What is your last name?"
"Don't have one."
"Middle name?"
"Don't have one of those either."
"Can I know when you were born?"
"Hmm.... September eighteenth, ten ninety-seven," she replied honestly.
"Huh? That's not possible," he said, highly confused. "It's the year nineteen ninety-one right now."
"It is?"
"Yes, and you're only a little girl, so you couldn't be nine hundred years old. It's impossible." He looked over at the nurse standing in a far corner. "Get a counselor. This girl really needs help. She thinks she was born in the early hundreds."
"Yes doctor," the nurse said, and she left the room, her long black hair swaying behind her.
"A counselor? What's that?"
"It's someone that we talk to, to help talk things through and help resolve our problems." He looked at her hair. "You have really pretty hair. When did you get it colored?"
"Colored? I was born with this hair color."
The doctor was confused. 'This just ain't possible,' he thought. 'It just ain't.'
The nurse came in with the counselor behind her; a short, stubby woman with short, curly black hair.
Sky looked at her. "Are you the person I have to talk to and resolve my problems?"
The lady nodded. "Yes I am." She held out her hand, and Sky jumped from it, and I mean literally, jumped.
"Whoa! What the hell?" Dr. Yosano exclaimed.
The fan suddenly turned on, and her hair, which was once covering her ears, was blown backwards, revealing her elf-like ears.
"Holy mother of God! She's a demon!" Dr. Yosano exclaimed. "You really are from the past aren't you?"
"Past? No, I'm not from the past. You guys are just from the future."
"Well, to us, you're from the past. To you, we're from the future," the counselor explained. "Does that make sense?"
"Kind of."
"Are you sure?"
"I wouldn't say I was if I wasn't."
They were surprised at her honesty. From what they've read about demons, they weren't the nicest form of life you want to meet unless you wanted to die a quick and painless death. Well, then again, the more cruel demons would make it slow and painful.
The counselor leaned in towards the doctor and whispered, "Are you sure she's not just playing innocent? She's probably trying to trick us in to thinking she's a sweet little girl and when she's got us all convinced, she'll turn on us and kill us."
"Hey, I heard that," Sky said, feeling rather offended. "And why would I turn on humans when I was raised by humans?"
They looked at her, and then at Dr. Yasano.
"Don't look at me," he said, backing away. "I have no clue about this girl. I didn't even know she was here until I was told that a silver headed girl was in this room and needed to be seen as soon as possible."
"Should I look on the computer about this girl? Maybe she really is from the early hundreds," one of the nurses suggested.
"Yes, please. Usually data found from back then is kept," Dr. Yasano replied.
"Okay, I will be right back sir." The nurse turned on her heel and left.
"Well," Dr. Yasano replied. "We shall give you a room to stay in, and don't worry, we won't keep you locked up. We will let you out every so often to roam, just don't go into any rooms."
"Okay," Sky said innocently.
They lead her to a room, not too far from the room she was in before. The room was big, and highly furnished. Just the lamps and furniture alone seemed to be worth a fortune.
She looked about the room, allowing her eyes to catch every glimpse. "But how am I to pay for this?" she asked. "I have no money. My mommy and daddy always had the money."
Just as Dr. Yasano was about to answer her, the nurse came in, a few printed sheets in her hand.
"It is true doctor," she said. "The girl really is from the past. She's the White Wolf. Sweet and innocent as a child, but when she got older, she was a living breathing devil. Not mean, but very devilish. Also very daring." She looked over at Sky. "Do not under estimate her power. As little as she is, her powers can still kill you. According to this, her claws produce poison, as well as her fangs, so don't let her claw you and don't let her bite you. Poison from a demons is extremely deadly, but back then, the poison from a demons claws and fangs was an antidote to cure most illnesses."
"Did you find all that out just today?" Dr. Yasano asked, surprised.
“Yes sir, I did. Why do you ask?”
“‘Cause I never knew that!"
"Well, that's where research comes in handy," the nurse replied.
"You forget Nurse Sumi. I am not one who enjoys or does research at all," Dr. Yasano said. "You seem to like it, so that's why I asked you."
"Even if I didn't like it you'd still ask me to research things for you!" she exclaimed.
"That's true."
"Ha! I knew it!"
"Would you two shut up and tell me how the hell I'm supposed to pay for this?!" Sky shouted.
Everyone looked at her, surprised at what came out of her mouth, receiving an innocent look from Sky.
"What?" she asked innocently. "Did I say something wrong?"
"No, not really," Dr. Yasano said, shaking his head slowly from side to side. 'For a girl her age she has a foul mouth,' he thought. 'I'm afraid to know what will happen when she gets older.'
"What's that supposed to mean?!" Sky demanded, stomping her foot, and placing her tiny hands on her hips.
"Oh great. A mind reader."
"You know, I can look into your mind and get personal information if you make me mad," Sky threatened.
He sighed. "Look, I'm not trying to get on your nerves, so can we please be friends?" He held out his hand.
She looked at it, confused. "Why you holding out your hand?" she asked. "I don't have anything to give you."
"If you agree to be friends, put your hand in mine," he said.
"Okay," she said, and she put her hand on his.
He closed his hand over hers, and gently, slowly shook it. "See? We just made an agreement to be friends."
"So..... I can't read your mind?"
"Friends don't read each other's minds."
"Oh..... Alright."
"Tomorrow, Mitsuyo, your counselor, will take you shopping for clothes so you don't--- so you'll fit in."
Sky tilted her head to the side. "But where I come from, the clothes I'm wearing right now are just fine."
"Yes, I understand that, but in this time, the clothes you're wearing right now are not fine. You don't want people to think you're weird do you?"
Sky shook her head. "No."
"Okay, then just bear with me on this okay?"
"Okay."
"Can you turn into a form that makes you look human?"
"Yes."
"Can you please show me?"
She snapped her fingers, and black hair replaced silver hair, and chocolate brown eyes replaced sky-blue eyes.
"Perfect. You will stay like that for a while okay?"
Sky nodded. "Okay."
*900 Years Earlier*
"Mya! Mya! Please say you've seen Sky!" Hyotaru begged, close to tears.
Mya shook her head sadly. "I'm afraid I haven't. I haven't seen her since the morning meal. I don't know where she's gone to, but I'm becoming very worried." She hugged herself, trying to block out the chill in the wind.
Hyotaru wrapped his arms around her. "I know, I'm worried too."
*Present*
"What do you think about this shirt?" Mitsuyo asked. "Do you like it?"
Sky observed it. "Yes, it looks good."
Mitsuyo put in the cart and strolled on. She stopped in front of a rack full of hanging pants. "Oh, these are cute," she said. "Would you like these?"
Sky looked at them. "What are they?"
"They're called jeans," Mitsuyo explained.
"They don't look comfy," Sky said.
"Well, if they're tight they're not comfy, but if they fit you fine, they're perfectly comfortable."
"Okay."
"Do not worry, I'll have you try them on once we're done."
By the time they were done, Sky had twenty-three shirts and pants, seven sweaters, two pairs of shoes, dress shoes, hair ties, a brush, and also some undergarments. The price was pretty high, but it was worth it considering they really needed Sky to fit in, and then there was the problem of sending her to school.
'I'll get to that later,' Mitsuyo thought.
*Later on That Night*
As Sky lay in bed, she thought of her home in the past as they called her time. She missed it so much, and she wanted nothing more than to be back on her own mat..... 'Well, then again, these beds as they're called are quite comfy,' she thought, so that part wasn't all that true, but she still missed her mat in her time. She sighed. "But still, I miss my mat, and my mommy, and my daddy." She looked out the window and could've sworn she seen her father. But she shook her head. "No. He wouldn't be here. They don't even know where I am." Moving closer to the pillow, she tucked herself in and scowled at her bed clothes. She was not used to having her legs covered, so she pulled the pants off and kept the shirt on. 'I wonder if I'll ever find my way back.' And with that last thought, she fell asleep.
*900 Years Earlier*
"Have ye seen any sign of her?" Mya asked a farmer. "Please say you have! She's been missing for over a day!"
The farmer shook his head. "I greatly apologize to you Lady Priestess, but I have not seen her. I shall keep an eye out for her if that would make you feel better. I will also have my two sons look for her. They are highly skilled in self defense."
Mya smiled hopefully, and it was as though her soul was a burning fire that was just fed some fresh wood. "Oh thank you, thank you, I would feel so much better if you did!"
He smiled. "I shall send them out after a days and a nights rest. They will need all their strength with those demons in the forest. Never know when one will pop out. I can send a message to some demon slayers to help too."
Mya was pleased. She hugged the farmer tightly, exclaiming, "Thank you! Oh, thank you so much!"
The farmer didn't know what to do except hug her back and say, "Uh..... You're.... welcome?" He wasn't sure what to say. "Uh... wouldn't your demon mate get mad if he seen you hugging me?"
She shook her head and pulled away. "Sorry, but no."
"Do not apologize, Lady Priestess. It is alright. I am honored to have a hug from you. I shall remember it for all eternity."
Mya smiled. "Thanks for your help." She turned on her heel and walked away down the dirt pathway between stalks of corn, and some lettuce.
When she got back to her hut, Hyotaru asked, "Any sign of her? Did you see her? Does anyone know where she's at?"
She put her fingers gently to his lips. "No to all of your questions." A tear rolled down her cheek. "No one has seen her, and neither have I. No one knows where she's at.
"But... There's gotta be some kind of hint to where she could've gone!"
She shook her head. "I'm afraid there isn't."
"But---"
"Just stop!" she exclaimed, and she ran out of the hut.
"Wait, Mya!" Hyotaru ran after her. "Mya, stop!"
She didn't stop, she just kept right on running.
"Screw this!" He jumped up, and landed in front of her, and she ended up running in to him, and his arms went around her before she could even hesitate.
She cried in his arms, immobile, just wishing Sky would return. Will she return?
