The sleep-over
The Sleep-Over.
“Mommy! Mommy! Mama!” Kessie got off the bus with three of her friends. She came running into the house.
“Yes Kessie?” Raquella was in the kitchen, making some healthy snacks, poor Summer had been sick and she had to stay home, so she made the best of it, by setting up for Kessie’s party.
“Mama! This is Sandra,” Kessie pointed to a blonde haired girl, in jeans and a cute pink shirt, “This is Mary...” she pointed to a girl in a white dress with long dark brown hair, “And this... is Betty.” She pointed to tan girl with black hair that was braided, she was wearing a blue dress. Raquella remembered Betty, Kessie’s friend, from the last PTA meeting... and a week’s worth of bibles...
“Hello Sandra, Mary and Betty...” Raquella said, “Are you girls hungry Kessie?”
Mary nodded, “Yes Ma’am...”
Sandra smiled, “Yes ma’am.”
Betty looked at Raquella, “Yes, where do you keep the potato chips?”
Kessie started laughing.
Betty shot a look at her friend, “What? Okay, where do you guys have the chocolate bars? Sugary cereal?”
Mary laughed, “Betty... you don’t know her very well.”
Kessie smiled, “Mama is making carrot chips, apple slices and fresh yogurt dip for a snack you guys...”
Betty frowned, “Health food?”
Kessie nodded at her friend, then looked at her mother, “Mama... can I show them my stuff?”
“Sure Kessie... just... not all of it,” Raquella was slicing apples now, “Go right ahead.”
Kessie looked at her three friends, “Come on! I’ll show you my room! And our family room”
Kessie didn’t hear the cry of “Kessie! Do not go into the altar room.” coming from her Mama.
The four girls ran off, and Raquella called after them, a little louder, “Please don’t wake up Summer!”

“And this... is my own cauldron...” Kessie was showing her four friends her magick supplies, in the family altar room.
“What’s that for?” Betty asked.
“For burning stuff... for mixing things. But for me, it’s just for looks, because Mommy won’t let me burn anything yet, they do all that stuff for me. They say I’m too young.” Kessie said, then pulled out her wand, “This is the wand I’ve had since I was born.”
Mary smiled, “That’s cute...”
Sandra smiled, “You had that since you were born?”
Kessie nodded, “Yeah...”
“Why would you need a wand?” Betty said.
“Betty... she’s a Wiccan.” Mary said.
“Yeah, get use to it.” Sandra smiled, as Kessie put the wand away. Sandra picked up Magick and petted the old cat. “Hello Magick...” Sandra had been to Kessie’s house before, her parents lived down the road, and was very opened minded.
“Oh...my parents told me about her... hey, I hear a car, is that your dad?” Betty said, trying not to scowl.
“Did you pick her up on the side of the road Kessie?” Mary asked, looking oddly at the young girl. Sandra put the cat down and the girls went to see who was home.
“No, she’s just my... other friend.” Kessie said, hearing Connor.
“Mama! I’m home!” Connor called.
“There’s my boy! Are you ready to go to Uncle Charlie’s tonight?” Raquella said.
“Let me go get my pack...” Connor ran by Kessie and her friends.
Kessie caught her brother, “Where’s my hug?”
Connor hugged his sister and ran to get his backpack to go visit Uncle Charlie.
“Hey Mommy!” Kessie ran up to hug Lucilla after she let go of her brother.
“Mommy???” Betty said. “I don’t get it... isn’t that lady,” She pointed at Raq, “her mom?”
“Betty...” Mary said, “She’s got two mom’s.”
Sandra smiled and nodded.
“GROSS! My parents told me about her mom and mom! They are going to hell!” Betty said.
Lucilla looked at Betty, “Ah, the Smolt’s child?”
“Sorry dear, she invited her...” Raq said, bringing out a plate of snacks. “Who wants some fruit and dip?”
The other girls were eating their snacks when the doorbell rang.
“I’ll get that Mommy! It’s Susan and Sarah!” Kessie ran to the door.
Sure enough, it was Susan and Sarah, Kessie’s twin friends.

“Who wants to watch a movie?” Lucilla said, smiling.
“Me, ma’am...” Betty said.
“Me! ME!” the other girls sang in unison.
“Okay, we have ‘I’m a little unicorn,’ or ‘Pete’s Dragon’” Lucilla said, then set up the movie and went to find her wife.
***
“Raquella?” Lucilla looked in the family altar room, “You in here?”
Raquella looked up, “Hmm? Yeah...”
“What are you doing in here? I didn’t interrupt a spell in progress did I?”
“No, no... I’m just... organizing our things.” Raquella held up an Egyptian statue, “You know... you’re things, my things, Kessie’s things, Connors things, OUR things.”
Lucilla nodded, “Trying to stay away from the girls?”
“Yeah.”
“Have you found your dagger yet?” Lucilla said, as Raquella dug into another box.
“No.”
“Where did you have it last?” Lucilla walked into the room.
“Summer’s ceremony... with the coven.” Raquella smiled, the family had since joined a small coven that met deep in the forest. The children loved to visit their ‘extended family.’
“Maybe you’ll find it.” Lucilla said, “I am going to lay down...”
“I’ll go to bed in a few...” Raquella nodded, moving her dragon items.
“Okay.”

“You have two Mommies?” Betty snarled.
“Yeah, so what’s it mean? I have two parents that love me and care for me.” Kessie said, dipping an apple slice into some yogurt dip.
Sarah grabbed a piece of healthy soy milk pizza and ate it, saying it was surprisingly good.
“You are going to hell...” Betty said.
“I don’t believe in hell...” Kessie said.
“You are a Satan worshiper.” Betty sneered.
“Dude, how can you worship something that you don’t even believe in?” Sarah looked at the young girl, “You don’t see her trying to convince us to start practicing Wicca, like you are apparently doing with YOUR religion. Stop trying to change what she believes in!”
Betty shut her yapper.
“Thank you Sarah.” Kessie said.
“I have to stand up for my friend.” Sarah said, taking a drink of her cranberry juice.

“Good Morning!” Raquella sang, the young girls were in the living room, sleeping on blankets, piled in a heap.
Kessie woke up, “Morning Mama! What are you doing?”
The other girls sat up and yawned.
“I’m making chocolate pancakes...” Raquella said.
“But I though you couldn’t have sugar...” Mary said, looking at Kessie.
“Mama let’s me have chocolate on occasions...” Kessie smiled, “It’s organic of course...”
“My mom wants to get me to try a diet like that... but does it taste good?” Sandra asked.
“Wait until you try my mama’s pancakes...” Kessie said.
“And what about that pizza last night? It was soy and all natural,” Sarah said.
“Really?” Sandra said, “It was good...”
Betty was still quiet from the ‘fight’ the night before.
Raquella soon placed a big steaming pile of chocolate chip pancakes on the kitchen table, along with plenty of butter.
“Kessie, don’t forget to take your medicine... so you can drink some milk with your pancakes this morning...and have plenty of butter.” Raq said.
Lucilla came into the kitchen, holding Summer “I smell a special treat...”
“Morning Mommy! Mama made chocolate chip pancakes!” Kessie said, putting two pancakes on her plate, as the other girls did the same.
“Hmm... smells good.” Lucilla said, reaching for the coffee pot, while the baby Summer cooed.
***
“Mommy...Mama.” Kessie said as the last of her friends left from the sleep over.
“Hmm?” Raquella smiled at her daughter, as she picked up some blankets from the living room.
“Thank you for the party...” Kessie said.
“You’re very welcome... but why are you so sad?” Lucilla said, as she loaded the dishwasher.
“I... I don’t think I’ll be friends with Betty any more...” Kessie said, frowning as she helped Mommy clear the table.
“What happened?” Lucilla said, “Thanks...” she took a plate.
“She... told me I was going to hell...” Kessie sighed.
“But you don’t believe in hell.” Lucilla said.
“That’s what I said...” Kessie said. “Then she said I was a ‘Satan’ worshiper.”
“But you don’t believe in Satan either...” Lucilla said.
“I know, but she was mean...” Kessie sighed.
“Maybe it’s a good thing that you don’t want to be her friend anymore...” Raquella smiled, “If she makes you feel uncomfortable.”
“You’re right Mommy... and Mama.”
