Part 5
June 18, 2006
My apologies to everyone for not updating the story before now. Life happens and it happened to me big time the end of July 2005. The muse has been silent where this story is concerned since then. Here is Part 5. Part 6 will probably follow in a few weeks. Please feel free to go back and read the previous parts. I did make some minor updates to them.
Right now, the muse (she's so fickle sometimes) has called my attention to an X-Men story which you can find on this site under Movies, X3. It's called "Lilith Who?".

Brenna found herself hurrying to get ready for dinner with Logan. She pulled her favorite purple dress out of the closest and stared at it. Her mind drifted back to breakfast and the kiss that almost happened. She had mixed feelings about it. Part of her wanted something to happen and the other part kept reminding her that vacation romances never lasted.
Brenna continued to get ready and tried to stop thinking about it. She was going to have fun and that was all that mattered. She turned back to the mirror and began styling her hair.
Logan was still smarting from missed kissed that morning. He promised himself he was going to kiss her before the night was out as he did the cuff links in his tuxedo shirt. He pulled on his tuxedo jacket, gave himself one last look in the mirror and headed off to Brenna’s cabin. His thoughts turned to showing Brenna a romantic night that she would never forget.
Brenna was putting the finishing touches on her makeup when she heard the knock at the door. “Just a moment!” She finished with the lipstick, took one last look and answered the door.
Logan’s jaw about hit the floor when she opened the door. She looked stunning in her floor length, purple, tank style, silk dress and strappy sandals. The dress flattered her figure in all the right ways. Her deep auburn hair was done in an elaborate up do. A simple necklace and diamond earrings finished the outfit.
“Let me grab my purse,” Brenna turned away from the door momentarily. When she turned back she noticed Logan still staring at her. It was her turn to notice how wonderful he looked all decked out.
Logan finally came to his senses and held out his arm for Brenna. She took his arm and the two of them walked to dinner in a comfortable silence. Logan made a note to himself to walk with her along the beach later. He was amazed at how easily the romantic thoughts were coming to him. He had always had so much trouble in the romance department before. Now, the ideas were coming to him like second nature.
“Logan?” Brenna sensed he thoughts had drifted away and tried to bring him back.
Logan cleared his head and realized they were at the restaurant. He quickly opened the door for Brenna and followed her through. He gave his name to the hostess and they were quickly seated at a semi-secluded table toward the back.
The waiter quickly brought over a bottle of champagne along with an ice bucket. Once each of them had a glass he handed them both menus then made himself scarce.
As Brenna looked over the menu she noticed there were no prices on it. She realized it must be an extremely nice and expensive place. She tried not to think about how much this might cost Logan but it did make her wonder what he did for a living.
Logan noticed the look on concern on her face. “Don’t worry. I’ve got it covered.”
Brenna was caught off guard by his remark. “I’m sorry. What?” She was confused.
“The meal. I’ve got it covered. We won’t be washing dishes or sneaking out the back later.” He gave her that smile again. The one that was starting to make her stomach turn to jelly every time he flashed it.
Brenna blushed. How did he know what she was thinking? Was it that clear to him it was worrying her? Logan reached his hand across the table and held her hand to reassure her.
Brenna stared at him and debated to ask the question burning in her mind but was afraid of the answer. What if he was a drug dealer or worse? She wasn’t sure she wanted to know but better to find out now.
“What do you do for a living?” The question barely came out louder than a whisper.
“I thought we were avoiding questions about work,” Logan saw the look of concern cross her face and felt a need to reassure her. “Look, it’s nothing illegal.”
“Promise?” She needed to know without a doubt.
He smiled again. “You have my word on it.” He wondered how she still hadn’t figured out who he was. He wasn’t going to spoil the evening the bringing it up but it was amazing she hadn’t figured it out yet.
During dinner the conversation came around to music. Logan decided to ask her point blank if she liked Phantom. He had to know why she didn’t seem to know him.
“They’re alright. I don’t keep up with them or anything but I have all their albums.” Brenna wondered why the conversation turned this way. “Are they your favorite band? You want to make sure I like your favorite band?” She was laughing at the thought.
“You got me. I had to make sure you like them or else this relationship might not work.” Logan was relieved. Now he knew why she didn’t recognize him. She liked the music but didn’t keep up with band.
“Excuse me. I have to powder my nose.” As Brenna stood to leave the table so did Logan. She smiled at the chivalry as she walked away.
When she returned they ordered dessert and Logan ordered more champagne after he assured her he wasn’t trying to get her drunk.
On the way out of the restaurant Logan asked Brenna if she would like to go for a walk along the beach and watch the sunset into the ocean. As they neared the beach Brenna removed her shoes and carried them. Soon Logan realized he was getting sand is his shoes and did the same.
“It looks like we’ve made the last few minutes of the sunset. I promise tomorrow night we’ll watch the whole thing.” Logan seemed disappointed.
“Let’s just enjoy what’s left.” Brenna smiled at him then turned back to the ocean to watch the sun.
Logan wrapped his arm around her shoulder as they watched the last moments of the sun melting into the ocean. He felt her start to shiver and move closer to him for warmth. He silently took his jacket off, wrapped it around her and pulled her closer.
When the sun was finally below the horizon, Logan turned Brenna in his arms so she was facing him. “Let’s go for a walk. It’ll warm you up.”
“Um…sure,” She was lost in his eyes like she had been at breakfast.
Logan wasn’t going to miss his opportunity this time. The two continued to stare into each other’s eyes and move closer. Brenna found her hands moving into his hair as their faces drew nearer. Logan wrapped his arms around her hips and pulled her closer as he leaned in to kiss her gently on the lips. As the kiss ended, Brenna leaned her head on his shoulder. Logan rubbed her arms trying to warm her up.
“Lets take that walk.” Logan kept his arm around her as they started walking along the beach.
Brenna wrapped her arm around his waist and stayed close to him. She had finally given in to her heart and her mind was going along with it. She felt completely safe with him. A feeling she wasn’t going to admit to him. At least not yet.
They walked along the beach in the moonlight for what seemed like forever. Before either of them realized it they were back at Brenna’s cabin. They lingered outside the door for a moment before Brenna found her voice.
“Would you like a night cap?” She fumbled in her purse for the key.
“That would be nice.” Logan wasn’t sure what would happen next. He only knew that he wanted to treat Brenna like the lady she was. If that meant not spending the night he was fine with that. She definitely wasn’t the type of lady to make a one night stand out of. If he was going to be with her he knew it would have to be special.
Once inside Logan phoned room service for more champagne while Brenna sat on the sofa facing the ocean. She watched as the moonlight played on the waves. Before Logan could even think about joining Brenna, room service knocked on the door with the champagne. Logan tipped the man and poured.
“Cheers.” He clinked his glass to hers and took a sip.
Brenna took a sip of her champagne then snuggled up to Logan. They both stared out the window watching the moonlight play along the ocean. Logan leaned down and started kissing her again. At first it was sweet and tender but soon his hands were roaming her body looking for more.
“Logan. Please stop.” Brenna moved away from him.
Logan swore to himself. He had crossed the line he knew he shouldn’t cross. “I’m sorry, Bren. I promise it won’t happen again.” He held his arm out for her to snuggle back up to him.
“I think it’s time for you to go now. All this champagne is giving me a headache.” Brenna rubbed her temples for effect.
Logan stood slowly from the sofa. “Do you have some aspirin?”
“Yeah. In the cabinet in the bathroom.” Brenna realized she was going to have to play the fake headache out. He cared too much about her to just leave.
Logan quickly returned with a glass of water and the bottle of aspirin. “Here. Drink all of this and take these.”
He made sure she drank the whole glass of water. “I want you to go straight to bed. I’ll see you for breakfast in the morning if you feel up to it.”
Brenna mumbled her agreement as Logan made his way to the door. She was thankful when he was gone. He cared about her, that much was clear. But he also wanted more than she was willing to give him. She hoped her friendship would be enough for now.
