Party time.
Tearing through the traffic I make my way to the restaurant that Tom made the reservations for. I’m not even sure I remember what it looks like. It has been a long time since I’ve been to this place. The good thing is I at least remember how to get there, so I don’t have to ask for directions. I think the last time I was there was when I first moved up here from America.
Yes I can admit I’m not originally from England. It was a big move for me, but I just couldn’t stand to live in an area where I was shunned because of my sexual preferences. Hell I couldn’t even look at my father without seeing hatred burning in his eyes. It broke my heart every time I went out to see the looks of disapproval. Finally, after having enough, I pulled out all the money I had saved up, put in my two weeks notice, and bought a one way ticket to London. I didn’t know where I would live but I knew it would be better than where I was living at the time. After about a week of living in a small apartment there the rest of my things from America arrived.
Finally after about a half an hour of driving I pulled up to the entrance. It has gotten bigger since I had last seen it. There is a huge entrance with a red canopy over the door, to the right of it stands the Valet. Slowing down, I make my way carefully over to the entrance. I put down the kickstand and hop of my bike. With a toss I hand my keys over to the valet.
“Be careful with her. I’ll make it worth your while.” Taking his hand in mine I press a twenty-pound note into it.
“Sure thing Miss.” Tipping his hat to me he pockets the money, takes my helmet and hops on my bike.
Following the red carpet I make my way to the front desk. A large wooden podium is standing at the center of the hallway, with a man in a red tuxedo standing behind it. He has a guest list resting on the podium and a red feather pen in his left hand. At first he doesn’t notice that I’m standing in front of him. I tap my foot for a minute and when he still doesn’t look down I cough to get his attention. Pushing up on his arms he bends down over the podium so he can look at me.
“Reservation?”
“Umm yes. I’m with the Patterson party.”
“Name please.”
“Kelly.”
He searches the list for a bit. After a few minutes he gets a smile on his face. “Ah here we are. It appears you are the first one of your group to arrive.”
I quirk my eyebrow at this statement. It is very unusual for me to be the first one to the party. I shrug it off and look back towards the waiter. “Alright so where do I go?”
“Right this way Miss. You can leave your coat with Gale here.” I hand my coat to the person that he points out and follow him down the hallway. There are several rooms filled with tables. We keep walking down the hall till we reach a set of double doors that say party room above them. I roll my eyes. Of course Tom would book a whole room for his party. He never had been one for subtle or small for that matter.
“Ok I’ll just wait in here for the rest of them.”
“May I get you something to drink while you wait?”
“Umm Pepsi if you have it, otherwise I’ll take a Coke.”
“Right away.”
Looking around the room I see there is a long table set up. There is a DJ area on the far wall and what looks like enough space for a dance floor. For some reason in the middle of the floor there is one chair facing the table. The table is set up so people will be sitting on one side of it. This way people can be facing the dance floor. Looking closer at the table I see little nametags where guests will be sitting. My eyebrow raises when I see where my nametag is setting. At the center of the table, as I expected, were Tom and Brad’s places. The thing that surprised me was that my nametag was next to Tom’s on the right. With a shrug of my shoulders I take my seat at the table.
Tom and Brad were, of course, the first ones to arrive. After each of them giving me a big bear hug and thanking me for coming they took their seats. Kris and her wife Samantha were the next ones to arrive. They also each gave me a hug and sat down on Brad’s left side. Mich and her husband sat down beside me on the right. There were a few others that I had seen before but I didn’t really know them. Once everyone was situated the orders were made and we started eating. Laughter was heard around the table as stories were shared. All in all it just seemed like an average night.
After a while Tom stands up and starts tapping on his glass. He motions to Brad so that he stands up beside him. \"I’d like to thank you all for coming and joining us tonight as we celebrate our anniversary. As of tomorrow Brad and I will have been happily married for four years now. I have to say that the closet shagging has gotten even better over the years. *Thwack* Ouch.” I try to stifle my laughter as Brad pops Tom on the back of his head for his comment.
Tom rubs the back of his head a little bit before he continues talking. “Seriously though, tonight isn’t all about Brad and I here.” My eyebrow quirks as he says this. I look over at him as he makes a hand motion to Kris and Mich. Eyes widen as I think, OH SHIT! Tom’s smile goes wider as he sees the look on my face. “For years we have had a friend who thinks she can avoid celebrating her birthday.” My tail twitches nervously behind me as Kris and Mich start making their way towards me. “We have a little surprise for you tonight Kelly. If you would please follow the girls here we’ll get on with your festivities.” I gulp as Kris and Mich each put a hand on my shoulder. I sigh and slowly stand up knowing that there was no way I was getting out of this.
