Chapter 5
Kailee was surprised to see police mulling around her apartment. She was even stopped by one as she tried to enter her and Mara’s apartment,
“Did something happen to Mara?” she asks dreading the worst,
“Your friend is just fine, she’s not in any trouble she just witnessed a murder, we’d like her to answer some more of our questions before we leave,
“Can I see her?” Kailee asks the police officer, his face goes serious for a moment and steps aside,
“Yeah, she’s really shook up,” he says ushering her into the apartment; he brings her into Mara\'s bedroom. She is curled up hugging a pillow and telling her story for the fifth time tonight. Mara’s dark brown eyes light up as she sees Kailee enter the room,
“Kailee,” Mara says tossing the pillow aside, she leaps from the bed and hugs her roommate, tears flowing from her eyes.
“Mara, are you all right?” Kailee asks squeezing her friend tight,
“Yeah, it was just-” Mara pauses, “Freaky,”
“What happened?” Kailee asks,
“Can I tell you a little later I’ve already gone over it five times now,” Mara says pushing away from Kailee,
“Yeah, sure thing,” Kailee says leaving Mara and the officer alone, she goes to her room, waiting for the cops to leave the two of them alone. Kailee strips off her thick sweater and her pants, she slips back to the thought of that girl she saw earlier walking down the street in a short skirt and strappy sandals, “Now that’s dedication to fashion,” she thinks to herself.
Kailee picks up the phone and dials Aaron, the other end rings three times and Aaron’s answering machine picks up, “Hi, you’ve reached Aaron, I’m not home right now so just leave your name, number and a short message and I’ll get right back to you,”
“Hey Aaron, it’s Kailee, just letting you know I got home, I can’t talk now anyway, the cops are here, my roommate witnessed some kind of murder, so I wouldn’t call back tonight just give me a ring sometime tomorrow afternoon, bye” Kailee hangs up and walks over to her vanity mirror, she looks at her reflection, starting with her crystal blue eyes, trailing down her cheeks to her neck, she follows her eyes with her fingers, pausing at her chest, her fingers trace the rose tattoo just above her left breast, that she got on her sixteenth birthday,
Kailee, unhooks her bra and tosses it into the hamper, she opens the middle drawer of her dresser and picks out a comfortable and yet still sexy bra, it was just plain white but the cups were satiny smooth. Kailee pushes her plain bikinis down her legs and tosses them over her shoulder into the hamper, she goes back to the drawer and removes a pair of white boyshorts with pink trim and puts them on. Kailee grabs her light blue housecoat off the closet door puts it on and ties the belt tight around her waist.
She walks over to the dresser and lights a stick of vanilla scented incense and flops down on her bed, thinking about all that happened tonight and her feelings for Mara, “Will I be able to tell her tonight? I planned to tell her but can she handle it after what happened? Or will I just plain old chicken out?” Kailee ponders just before she falls asleep.
