An Alien Ate My...
Chapter 5: The Conclusion
"So it's called protein here...?" Lena
nodded. She, Jun, and Cross were waiting at a table at May's. May and Bart were
preparing the protein drink for the Suraimus.
"Is it called differently in...wherever you said you came
from?" Cross asked.
"Kenkyuusho." Lena said. "Yeah, it's called seichoo
tane and it's in the form of small pellets. It's dissolved and becomes speiro-oil."
Cross blinked. "That's some language...What's your Geantoid
form look like?"
Lena turned to Jun, then back at Cross. "Actually, I've
never seen a Suraimu in the Geantoid form. Every time one's old enough and have
enough energy, they
mysteriously vanished."
Cross' eyes widened. "Wh...Aren't you afraid it may happen to
you?" he asked.
Lena shook her head...no, her whole body. "We've seen it
one too many to be afraid of it. It has become our way of living."
"I...I don't want to lose you, Lena." Cross said. "I don't
want you to vanish..."
Lena smiled. Her lips had reformed by her previous night's
session with Cross. "It's alright, Cross. It's our destiny."
"But I...!" Cross was about to argue more, but Bart and May
walked into the room.
"Here it is." May said, carrying two bowls filled with white,
cereal-like liquid.
"Hmm, this sure stinks." Bart said, walking beside her. "Your
mother drinks this kind of stuff? Are you sure she's not a Geantoid Suraimu?"
May scowled at him as she put the bowls on the table. Lena
and Jun bounced nearer.
"It doesn't smell like it, but it looks like the normal
speiro-oil. Right, Jun?"
Jun examined her bowl. "It does..."
    "Try it." May suggested.
Both Lena and Jun bounced and landed inside the bowl. They
quickly sucked the liquid into them. One second later, their eyes turned blank.
"Lena!" Cross exclaimed. He went to the blob and took her.
"Are you alright?"
"Jun?" Bart took the other blob. "What happened?"
May creased her forehead. "Maybe it's too much..." she
mumbled. "I think they need some rest. It's like us when we eat too much."
Cross nodded. Involuntarily sighing in relief. At least she
didn't disappear. "Okay. I'll...take her home, now..." he said.
"Tell me what happens to her when she wakes up, okay?" May said as
Cross went for the door. "I'd like to know more about them."
"Yeah, sure..." Cross said before walking out the door.
Cross put the spaced-out pink alien blob on
his desk. He positioned her to get the earliest of the early morning rays. "I
hope you're alright..." he whispered as he landed a soft kiss on her top. He
then went to his bed and laid himself there. He felt tired. But this time he
knew why. He had been walking around the park with the unconscious Lena on his
shoulder. Not exactly knowing what he's doing, actually. 'No, wait.' he thought.
'I was trying to find out if there're other Suraimus around...'
But Cross returned home with little more than deadening
fatigue. He let out a long sigh as he drifted to sleep.
Midnight. The room was pretty dim. A table
and two empty bowls were bathed by the silver light of the moon coming in from a
small roof window. It was a peaceful night in May's dining room. And while she's
fast asleep in her room, something flickered in mid-air in the dining room. The
flicker disappeared in a second, but then an outline of a figure appeared,
before the shadowy figure materialized completely.
The totally black human figure raised a strange device. It
flickered through the dimness, but unable to lighten the scenery even a bit. The
figure turned the device towards the bowls and it shook. The figure pressed
something on the device, and as it was pointed back to the bowls, it shook
again.
The figure swept a finger into the bowl and brought it to his
nose, then into his mouth, tasting it. He seemed to be surprised. The figure
then started pressing buttons on the device, and, upon reading the device's
results, disappeared as silently as he appeared.
The same shadowy figure silently emerge into
view in Cross' room. The room was dark, and Cross' soft snore was audible. The
figure tip-toed towards his desk and easily located Lena; she was bathed under
the moonlight. Her pink hue was barely visible, replaced by the silver shine.
The figure took a device. It wasn't the one he used before. The figure pointed
it at Lena and began pressing some buttons. A display on the device began
showing strange characters which seemed to belong to another language.
The figure read the seemingly unending lines of unreadable
characters scrolling in the small screen. After the scrolling ends, the figure
nodded before touching the side of his face. Then, came an unfamiliar telepathic
'voice', in an unfamiliar language at that. "Lena, okite kudasai..."
Lena closed her eyes (it was still open and blank), and when
she opened them, her vision had returned. She was awake. She turned around,
trying to get a bearing. "Where am I? Cross? What happened?"
"Watashi wa Cross wa ja nai..."
Lena jumped at the 'voice'. "K-Koe-sama?" Her 'voice'
was loud and full of surprise.
"Uh..." Cross' eyes fluttered as he came to.
The figure turned abruptly at the waking Cross, then he began
to disappear. He had disappeared completely one second before Cross opened his
eyes.
"Lena? You're awake?" Cross asked sleepily. "What are you
doing screaming into my brain like that?"
"K-Koe-sama! Cross! I just heard Koe-sama! Just now!"
Lena bounced uncontrollably on the desk.
    "Koe-sama?" Cross frowned.
Cross closed a thick book on his hands. It
seemed like a dictionary. A small white rectangle with a red circle in it was
the only clue of its nation. Cross' face was a bit pale. He returned the book
into a shelf next to his bed. 'This can't be!' he thought. 'Lena...Jun...are
they really aliens...?'
    "Cross?" Lena bounced towards him.
Cross returned his attention to the pink blob on his desk. He
sat on his chair, facing her. "Lena, who is this Koe-sama?"
Lena's eyes sparkled. "He's our God. It was said that only
Geantoid Suraimus can hear Him, or those who's going to be one very soon."
    "So.uot;uot; Cross hung his sentence.
"I'm going to be one soon!" Lena bounced around in
joy.
Cross sighed. He still didn't like the idea of Lena being a
Geantoid if that means he's going to lose her. He had grown to be fond of her.
He then cursed himself. 'Get a life, Cross. Are you falling in love to a blob?'
he said to himself. He looked up to Lena. His eyes met hers.
Lena stared back at him, leaning her head (um, whole body) a
bit to analyze Cross' stare. "What's the matter, Cross?" she asked.
Cross unwillingly blushed at the beautiful, clear blue eyes.
He cursed himself again. "N-Nothing, really..."
Lena's eyes switched to show compassion. "Are you still
worried that I'm going to vanish?" she asked.
"Partly." Cross confessed. He couldn't seem to get his eyes
off hers. Although he finally able to when Lena suddenly jumped onto his
shoulder. Cross closed his eyes as he felt Lena's cool jell body pressed against
his neck.
"I'm grateful that you supplied me with speiro-oil, Cross.
Even if it made me feel a bit strange."
"It does?" Cross opened his eyes, frowning.
"But it's not a thing of concern." Lena quickly said.
"I also thank Bart for reviving Jun and May for giving us enough seichoo tane
to grow into our Geantoid stage..."
Cross reached for his neck and took Lena into his hands,
stopping her sentence. "Lena, I..." he found himself unable to continue his
speech. He held her in his hands, almost crushing her in his grasp.
But Lena wasn't a jell for nothing. She easily escaped his
gripping grasp and found herself perched on his clenched fist. "Cross? What's
the matter?" her 'voice' was filled with a worried tone.
"I..." Cross looked down, avoiding her eyes, fearing that he
might not be able to let go of them again. "I...can't afford to lose you,
Lena..."
    "Cross..."
Cross cursed himself repeatedly. He couldn't hide it anymore.
His heart was filled with emotions he never felt toward any other beings. No
human had made him feel what he was feeling then. 'How can this be...? Am I...Am
I really...in love...?'
    "Lena..."
Both Lena and Cross jerked at the 'voice'. "Koe-sama!"
Lena exclaimed.
    "Lena...buji ka...yokatta..."
"L-Lena, is that...your God?" Cross asked, looking around.
But he didn't see anyone.
Lena turned to him in shock. "C-Cross? You can hear him?
But...I thought..." She was genuinely surprised. "Can you understand him?"
Cross shook his head. "No, but I figured out the language you
Suraimus are using. Hold on for a moment." he said as he put Lena on his desk
and went to the shelf. He took out the thick book and began turning the pages.
He then looked around and began to try something he thought to be pretty crazy.
"Koe-sama, kiku ka?"
Lena's eyes widened. "C-Cross? Why are you talking to
Koe-sama?"
Then, not expected by both Lena and Cross, the 'voice'
replied, "Hai, kiku desu. Cross, Ei-go ka?"
Cross turned the pages of the book he was holding and after
finding the words, he smiled. "Hai, Ei-go desu." he said, sighing a relief.
"Very good." The voice began to talk in English! "You
have figured out our language."
"Yes." Cross said. "And I'll feel better if you can show
yourself and explain why an alien blob is using earth's language."
"Cross!" Lena exclaimed. "How dare you order
Koe-sama, our God, to show Himself in front of you?" Lena's voice wasn't
angry, just a mix of confusion and a bit of fear. But her 'voice' was muffled
completely as a figure slowly appear in front of her. Then, she suddenly closed
her eyes and went to the state when Cross found Jun: an inch high, 6 inches in
diameter, circular jell.
"Lena!" Cross exclaimed. But he was blocked by the figure.
"She's fine." the figure said. His voice was no longer
telepathic. Wait a minute...His? No, it was a female voice. The figure took off
something from her head as the first of the sunrays flood over into Cross' room,
bathing the figure's straight, long, jet-black hair.
Cross frowned at her. "Who are you? Why do Lena call you her
God?"
The girl raised a hand. "I will explain." she said. "But you
may want to sit first."
Cross took that as a sign of something mind-blowing. He took
her advice and sat on his bed. The girl sat next to him, between him and Lena.
Cross eyed the girl suspiciously. She was little older than
him. Her facial features were unclear, since the sun was behind her, but her
silky jet-black hair gave out her Asian origin. "Who are you?" he asked again.
The girl took a deep breath. "So, you are Cross." she said,
ignoring his question. "On behalf of the IHRP, I thank you for getting Lena to
this stage."
Cross silenced. He had too many questions to ask her, he
didn't know where to start.
"First of all, I'll introduce myself. My name's Kina." she
said.
"Not exactly a Japanese name." Cross pointed out.
Kina smiled. "Yes, well, I used to be a Suraimu."
Cross' eyes bulged out of its sockets. He eyed Kina's human
figure. "Y-You're kidding, right?"
Kina shook her head gently; her hair flowed along. "No, I...I
better explain from the beginning..."
Kina then talked about her world. It turned
out that she came from the near future, but on a faraway other dimension of
Earth. On her earth, the international language was Japanese, as the countries
had come together under the control of the electronic giant. Then came a
stunning reality. The industrial waste on her Earth had grown so bad that no
woman was fertile anymore. Everyone feared of their extinction, they created the
International Human Restoration Project, the IHRP.
The Project involve in creating whole, new, humans from
organic materials. After years of failures, the first Suraimu was born. After a
whole bunch of tests, it was then found out that a Suraimu will, in time,
evolve into a human being, given enough sunlight and protein.
    "Protein...!" Cross nodded. "Figures..."
Kina smiled. "Yes, well..." She said, continuing her story.
IHRP then began to create more and more Suraimus and located
them in the space of different dimensions. The reason was that protest groups
had emerge, condemning the project as 'ominous' and 'God defying'. The Suraimus
lived happily in their 'planet', not knowing what they were actually, until they
got enough protein to become a 'Geantoid', a term given to them as a form of
purpose of life, but actually a stage where a Suraimu is almost human. When a
Suraimu reaches the Geantoid stage, s/he will be taken from the community and
given a stimulant. A human cell. It will then develop and in time, the Suraimu
will emerge as a human.
To govern them, a human will act as a 'God' to them, telling
them what to do and what not to do. S/He will appear to them only by voice, and
to several chosen Suraimus. Kina was the first female human created from Suraimu
to act God. One of the reasons was that she had retained her telepathic ability
and was able to communicate with the Suraimus without having to use any tool.
Her appointed community was on a small asteroid near Mars, of Cross' dimension.
So far, she had taken several hundred Geantoid and had them sent to IHRP to be
'humanized' and sent to work.
Unfortunately, the protest groups found her asteroid and had
attacked her. She informed the Suraimus and told them to escape. But despite her
efforts, most of them were killed. She escaped on a pod and detected at least
two Suraimu escape pods. She landed outside Cross' town and had gone searching
for the lost Suraimus ever since.
"So, that's the story..." Cross said. His mind was swirling.
He could hardly believed it. His vision went all over his room, and finally
landed on Lena. "What happened to her?"
Kina turned to her. "Oh, she's fine." she replied. "We 'Gods'
have the ability to make any Suraimu sleep or wake, conscious or unconscious, we
can even trample on their memories, but it's kinda prohibited..."
"And...what are you going to do now?" Cross asked.
Kina sighed. "Well, my orders are to get the Suraimus home to
our home dimension and continue the Project." She noted Cross' sad stare at
Lena. "But...I guess I can bend the rules a bit."
Cross turned to her. "W-What do you mean?"
"Lena has received enough protein. She's technically in her
Geantoid stage right now. If she goes back, she'll be turned to human and be
given a job, most probably assisting me in my next assigned lab, growing
Suraimus." Kina replied. She then tilted her head aside. "But, I can change her
into a human right here, right now, and let her stay with you." she raised an
eyebrow.
    Cross' face lightened.
"So, what's your choice?" Kina asked.
EPILOGUE
    "Cross!"
Cross smiled, then turned to the merry voice. There, he saw a
beautiful girl running towards him. Her clear blue eyes, clear as the sky above
the park, shone as she saw him. She hastened her run and made her bright pink
hair wave from the brushing wind.
As the girl got nearer, Cross opened his arms.
The girlpilypily jumped into his hug, kissing him with all
her passion.
Cross kissed her back, brushing her soft hair. As their kiss
subsided, they walked along the park, hand in hand.
"I'm so happy, Cross." the girl whispered.
Cross just smiled. His vision caught Bart and May a distance
from them. He waved at them.
The girl found them as well, and waved with him. She smiled
as the couple waved back. She sighed. "Too bad Jun decided to go back. I'd like
to be with her here."
    "You've got me." Cross reasoned.
The girl smiled. "Yes, but...well, you're right. I should be
thankful I have you." She then stopped.
Cross stopped as well, turning to her; his expression
wondering. "What's the matter?" he asked.
"Cross, once again, thank you for letting me stay here with
you." she said.
Cross smiled. He pulled the girl into his hug. "You should
stop thanking me, Lena." he said. "I love you." was the last words he said
before kissing her.
Lena, fully human, closed her eyes and kissed him back. 'I
love you too...' She was thankful Kina let her retain her ability, or she
might have to break the kiss to tell him that, and that was not she intended to
do, at least for the next five minutes.
END!
Author's Note: How do you like this end? I actually have more
endings, but I finally chose this one. Other endings require me to backtrack at
least two episodes and I don't like to pursue them, now that I've developed this
particular ending. Mostly because the other paths haven't even an end yet. One
unexplored path shows the appearance of male Suraimus and explanations on how
they evolve (will not end as them being a test subject in IHRP) have unlimited
endings...Try making them yourself and post them here. Mail me first, if you do. Any
ideas, comments,
praises, flames, critiques, anything at all (no viruses, please...), mail them to storymasterq@softhome.net.

PS: Nope, there's no sex here. This is the earlier version of
the fifth chapter where the Epilogue is only PG-13...Thankfully I still have a
copy of it...There, I made it PG-13. Happy, Xing?
