Anna ran until she got to the front of the school. The sun glowed and smiled down on her. The fountain splashed playfully and the flower garden ed ted their fumes toward her. Despite the anger and fiery boiling blood that ran through her veins, she couldn’t help but feel a bit better. She sat on the edge of the fountain and stared down at her reflection.
“See why he wants Imani?” her subconscious said “See why he isn’t here? Do you understand now or can we move on with life?”
The footsteps that followed shortly were strong and determined. Anna smiled ironically at her reflection. “How did I know it was you?” she asked him as he stopped a few feet behind her. She didn’t bother to look at him.
“What makes you think that Imani is the one for me?” he asked dropping all jokes “I said what I felt and I refuse to take any of it back.” he sat down next to her and she moved away, folding her arms around herself. “Look at me damn it.” he cupped her chin and forced her to look at him. “Don’t you ever ever accuse me of lying to you. I don’t lie and I don’t cheat. I say what I feel and I don’t apologize for anything that is not my fault.”
Anna blushed and nodded, but Alex did not smile at her. “I feel a strong connection with you and I know that Wilson feels it too. Or at least he thinks he does.”
“Why did you kiss her then?” Anna couldn’t keep the nerves out of her voice.
Alex smiled his smile and said “Why are you jealous?”
“I umm. . . . .” the bell rang. “I have to get to class.” she said darting away before he could say anything.
He watched as she dashed away into the front hall and sighed. “At least she’s an athlete.” with a laugh he headed inside so he could get to the library and study. He heard the speaker system come on and paused momentarily to hear the announcement.
“Would Anna Vaughn level 3 report to the headmaster’s office. Anna Vaughn level 3.” Alex’s heart stopped. Blood roared into his brain and he dropped his calculus book. It landed with a heavy loud thud that Alex didn’t hear. His feet pounded the tile as his legs carried him in swift strides to the headmaster’s office. He skidded around corners and almost fell more than once. He skidded to a halt outside the secretary’s office and burst through the door.
“Where is she?” Alex panted out to the astonished young secretary.
The secretary stared at him until he stood up straight and glared at her. In a trembling voice she said “In there. The headmaster wished to speak with her privately.” her hand shook as she pointed toward the oak door.
Alex tried the door knob and realized his stupidity, it was locked. He whirled and glared at the young woman. “Open this door.”
“The young lady shook her head. Alex read fear in her eyes. “I said open this door damn it or would you rather me stay out here?”
The woman practically jumped from the desk and opened the door. Alex stormed past her and yelled into the open space “Anna?” no answer. “Anna! Answer me!” a muffled scream comes from the cherry wood door. Alex whirled around and charged at the door, he delivered one solid kick that broke the lock and caused the door to hit the wall.”
“Alex?” the headmaster questioned. Alex huffed a moment and regained his posture. The headmaster sat in the sitting area drinking tea. “Is there a pem?”em?”
Alex realized that Anna was sitting fully clothed and staring rather oddly at him. “No sir.” Alex said not looking at the headmaster. “I just thought. . .” he looked pleadingly at Anna who was inspecting him.
“I should go sir.” Anna stood and walked past Alex.
“Come talk to me anytime.” the headmaster called after her.
“Sorry for the intrusion headmaster.” Alex bowed slightly before darting from the room and finding that Anna was already heading for class.
“Anna.” he called after her running to catch up. “Hey wait a second. Would you stop already?” he had caught up to her easily because (1) he had been running and she hadn’t and (2) he was a good six inches taller than she was. He grabbed her arm and spun her around.
Anna glared up at him. Standing her ground she backed up a step. “What?” anger edged its way into her voice.
Alex stared at her. She was acting oddly. “What did he say to you?” he knew it was a stupid question. He could tell something was wrong but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
“He was just talking. He needed to tell me something really important and then you just barged in and here we are. You tell me.”
“Tell you what?” Alex was getting really agitated by Anna’s attitude.
“God,” Anna swept her hair out of her face and stared at the wall behind Alex. “Like you don’t know. He told me a hint about your past. You left your closet door open and its full of junk and trash.” she took a steadying breath. “You and Aaron make a cute couple.”
“Don’t play that shit with me.” Alex was having a hard time trying not to yell. “I heard you scream.” his hand caressed her cheek. “What did he do?”
In voluntarily Anna leaned into his cheek. “He said something about marriage.”
“Did he. . .He’s married isn’t he?” Alex couldn’t find words.
Anna chuckled a moment and shook free of his hand. “You are paranoid.” the look in his eyes was hurt and she looked down. “He said that you were a bit….” she hesitated “domineering.” she breathed.
“Are you calling me arrogant?” Alex was stunned. He looked down at her with the notion that the headmaster had brain washed her. “You’re calling me arrogant? Why?” he knew he sounded like a childish buffoon, but he could hardly believe she would do such a thing. In the weeks she had been in his Pre-Cal class he had watched other students insult her over and over again, yet she never struck back. She would ’turn the other cheek’ so that they could slap it too. He had come to believe she was incapable of insulting people. Yet there she stood calling him arrogant, he couldn’t help but be insulted though he had been called worse.
“Yes I am calling you arrogant.” she snapped. “You are an audacious prick and I am already late for class so if you will excuse me. Sir!” Anna was having a hard time controlling the urge to slap him. She stalked away in a huff, leaving a very dismayed level 5 behind her. The head master had been on the verge of giving her some very important information and he had to barge in and just stand there not say anything and accuse him , her. She couldn’t even think straight. “God he makes me so damn mad.” she cursed out loud to the ceiling.
“Don’t mind Serrano he as a s a lot of people.” a voice said.
Anna jumped about a foot and a half in the air and ran into a wall. She bit back a yelp of pain and looked at her assailant. Anna wished to high heaven that there had been a pot hole in the hall at that moment. She would have given anything to hide from the head of the Aqua dorm.
“You are supposed to be in class, aru nou not?” he asked grinning at her.
Anna was almost sick. She would have wiped the floor with him had he not had power over her. “I got lost.” it was the lamest excuse ever, but it was the only thing she could think of.
“Then allow me to escort you to your dorm, or perhaps the library?” he asked still grinning like the mad hatter. He began to advance toward her, but she stood her ground.
“Fuck off Wilson.” an angry voice warned.
Anna tensed and relaxed at the same time. She knew Alex was going to wonder and pick at her about this.
“What is this?” she shouted at the pair of the them. “Am I some prize that one of you will win? I don’t intend to be treated like a goddamned trophy.” she stalked over to Wilson and kissed his cheek then slapped him were her lips had been. “There.” she spat at him “There is love and hate in that. Just in case either of you” she looked from one guy to the other “can’t get this through either of your thick skulls. I will wait until either of you decide to be honest with me or you kill each other. I will be in my room. Good fucking day.” Anna walked past either of them on shaky legs.
“How much you wanna bet that’s PMS talking?” Wilson joked.
“Shut up.” Alex glared at him a moment before passing Aaron and heading for the library.
A/N: Hey sorry for the whole no update for forever. I still have to worry bout classes and stuff. But the next chapter should be a bit longer and smuttier (is that even a word.) You're smart enough to get the idea. Keep the reviews coming!
