Entry Five- Tired eyes
Entry Five- Tired eyes
I slept lightly, constantly being bothered by strange dreams. But for you to understand why, I must pause the story to explain what I am. I am one of the Ochhi della morte, an order of servants whose eyes become the link between our masters and the waking world. It is a way to share experiences between the night seeing and the day seeing. The bond does not discriminate between those who share it, which is unfortunate for me.
As I slept I had the image of myself sitting on the sofa next to one of the women. The other was gone form my sight but it didn’t matter because I felt as if I only wanted this one. She shook as I touched her hand, and it was then that I became lucid to the fact that it was not me, but Adrian who touched her. He held her hands and I was unable to stop as his words fell from my lips.
\" Why are you being so resistant my dear?\" He, I, asked her in a slow tired voice.
\" Why! I do not want to die.\" Her look was desperate, beyond fear or even hope.
She looked straight through the bond that linked Adrian to my head.
She lay in my bed shaking, clinging to my mattress- touching me.
\"You can help me.\" But there were no miracles to be found with me. I cast her out of my thoughts, out of my dreams and back into her own nightmare.
\"My Dear,\" Adrian continued \", don’t you understand you have been dead since your van broke down in the snow. Surely you would have frozen to death by now.\"
\" No.\" She pleaded \"You saved us, I don’t understand.\"
\"You should be thankful that you will have a pleasant death.\" He stroked her golden hair. \" You will be warm and full and in my arms.\"
I held out my, his, arms to her. \"Come lay here next to me.\" My voice was enough to sooth her, my touch was gentle enough to coax her near, my invitation could not be refused.
When she touched me I suddenly felt like a larger man. She would never have fit so comfortably against my slight body. I was feeling what Adrian felt, her hair was soft under my chin. After a moment of waiting I felt her very will loosen and slip away. I tilted her pretty head to the side with out any resistance.
I woke then. As Adrian is the Master he can choose whether to share the kill and he usually chooses not to. It is a small blessing.
I stared in to the dark room. Her blood filled his body. I could not see it, but all the same, I knew. I shared in his satisfaction and so I soon fell back to sleep, content and full.
For a time I dreamt of the sun, warm and bright on my skin. The sky was blue and the mountains were green with new growth. I started up the mountainside, climbing over grass and rocks. I knew good things waited for me at the top and I hurried to get to them. Then the ground went hard and flat. I felt the slightly sticky pull of varnished wood under my bare feet and I knew that I was climbing stairs. I knew Gregory waited for me at the top.
