Cleaning Up
The rest of that day, was spent at Devi’s house cleaning up everything, and trying to salvage anything that had an important meaning to her. While Jon turned the furniture upright, she went around frantically looking for threengs.ngs. Her diary, a photo album, and a book of notes and e-mails from Jon...
When she finally found them, she was relived to find that they were one of the few things that hadn’t been completely destroyed. It looked as though they had been protected by the table that had fallen on top of them.
She picked up the photo album, and flipped through the pages until she found a picture of her and Jon together. His arm was around her, and it was summer. She was wearing an orange tub top and shorts, while he was in a white tee shirt and shorts. They were both laughing, and they were both happy.
Devi set the photo album in a bag, along with some other stuff that she wanted to bring with her. She found a few other pictures that never made it into the album, and carefully placed them onto an empty page.
As she walked around, she realized how much glass was shattered on the ground, and decided that she would clean it up before anyone cut. While vacuuming it up, she remembered each item, and what it used to look like before each piece was broken into the tiny pieces. While cleaning up an assortment of colored glass, she remembered the foot tall dragon fly designed candle holder that had been given to her when she was 14. She remembered all of the candles that had been burned in it, and the fire that almost started because of it...So many memories had been shattered in one night. As she thought about that, she realized that for every memory shattered, a new one would be made.
After a while, the house was cleaned up and she walked over to Jon. He saw how much she had in this house, and he put his arms around her and hugged her fairly tightly. Devi rnedrned the hug, and off of a whim of courage, kissed him.
