Chapter 5

\"To distract you.\" she paused looking up at him.... \"And because I wanted to... And you wanted to.\"

He cupped is hand against he cheek...smiling with a hint of pleasure in his eyes \'True...I did.... but...why did you?\'

\"Because you\'re attractive. Because you\'re an intellectual equal. Because you interest me. And so few things manage to do that any more... I\'m afraid I\'m rather jaded.\"

He smiles \'So is that why you call yourself \'Jade\' here?\'

\"One of the reasons... I certainly can\'t call myself by my true name, now can I?\" she chuckled, standing and drawing him out into a sitting arrangement in the otroomroom where she pulls him down to sit on a divan with her... \"The truth is, Jade is a Master Thief and a Courtesan. But the name, came because the first thing I ever stole on my own after becoming an apprentice was a small jade sculpture from the bedroom of Lady Cassandra\'s lover... a sculpture which she had given him... Then I turned it over to the Guild for a percentage of the profits, and it was promptly sold back to the gentleman it was acquired from... The other apprentices found that hysterical, and decided that was my new name.\"

He smiled and laughed at the story...and the adventure she must lead. He himself lead a boring and secluded life of study...or court politics \"You lead a much more interesting life than I...nothing but books...and court politics\' he said with a sigh...leaning closer to kiss her naked shoulder

She sighed in pleasure... \"Perhaps, Demar, but I would have given anything to lead the life you do, once... But we must strive to make the best out of the life that the gods give us... regardless of the capricious turnings of Fate.\" she raised a hand, gently caressing his face as close as he was to her.\"

Demar smiled...Turning to kiss her palm before leaning into her lips. His kiss was long and passionate.... pulling her into his body with his arms to hold her. When he broke the kiss he was lost in her eyes \'You deserve the life I have.... more than I\'

Sas bas breathless when he broke the kiss, and somewhat astonished that he\'d done that... but pleased as well. Her silver eyes met his own and looked at him searchingly... \"It wasn\'t the path that I was meant to lead. I will never be the Adept that you are... And, just lighting the candle as I did, is a death sentence for me, Demar. You know that.\" she sighed and leaned into his body, resting her head on his shoulder, her hands at his waist.

He thought it a shame...nay a sin that she was cast out to such a life. However...a plan slowly formulated in his mind \'If I found a way.... to return to return you to some semblance of that life...would you take it?\'

\"I think it would depend on many things... perhaps. But I would never give up being what I am now, Demar. I am and always will be a thief, and if I wished to steal something, make no mistake, I would...\"

He smiled and laughed a bit.... brushing his lips over hers briefly \' Even men\'s hearts?\'

\"No. I make no claim to stealing those... they give them away willingly.. I do not even have to ask.\" she said softly, making light of his question, though she returned his kiss with pleasure...

He purred \'Then give mine back\' he then kissed her again

she made a soft sound, pressing against his body, kissing him back... her hands slid beneath his shirt to caress his strong chest and shoulders... \"N.\" .\" she whispered, her words soft and breathless... \"If you\'ve lost your heart, ‘tis mine to keep until you can manage to retrieve it... Besides, did you not think that even as you watched me in the Apprentice Halls, that I watched you? Did you not figure out that I didn\'t kill you for a reason?\"

He pressed her back onto the chaise....leaning atop he as they kissed. The sensation of her fingers on his skin enflamed his passion \'I saw something in your eyes...was it pity...or lust?\' he moaned as they kept kissing and speaking

\"Interest, aust.ust... Because I knew father was considering opening negotiations for a marriage between us.\"
