chapter 5

I stepped outside the throne room, and motioned the blond woman back inside. I knew my face showed how shaken I was, but I didn\'t care. Mourn gently touched the side of my face. I leaned into that touch, savoring it.

\"I don\'t want this. I don\'t want any of this.\"

Liam caressed the other side of my face. \"I know.\"

I took both their hands and began to walk away from the door. I had nowhere to go, but back to the room we had been assigned. It was better than nothing.

\"He scares me.\"

\"He scares everyone. That is one reason why he has been such a good king.\"

I looked at Liam, finally stopping. \"That reminds me. How do you know so much about dragons? I thought you are sidhe.\"

Liam sighed. \"I am. I spent time with the dragons after the last war to try and cement things with them.\"

\"Oh.\" I looked down, then began to walk again. \"How in the hell do I deal with this? He\'s talking about teaching me dragon ways, as if I am the one to take the throne.\"

\"You might have to.\" Mourn tugged my hand, jerking us to a stop. \"He probably won\'t live long enough to do more than show you the ropes. He is dying, Angela, from what I do not know, but he is.\"

I looked at the two of them. \"I don\'t want to.\"

They both folded me up into their arms. I rested my head on Mourn\'s chest and sighed, Liam a warm, comforting weight at my back. I didn\'t want this; I really didn\'t want this.
\"How lovely.\" I looked up to see Mallory walking towards us, wearing a low-cut red silk dress this time, her long red hair framing her body like a cape. \"How nice to see you in their arms. I hope the baby is theirs. Then it can\'t be the heir.\"

I snarled, and Mourn and Liam tightened their grip on me. I guess they were afraid I might eat her or something. \"Why the hell do you care, cunt?\"

Mallory echoed my snarl, and stepped as close as she could. \"Because the throne would have been mine had you died.\"

My mouth turned up at the corners, and I laughed, a loud mocking sound. \"You do not hold the power needed to secure the throne.\" I didn\'t know where that came, from, and I didn\'t care. I knew it was true. From the look of shock on her face, she knew it too. Without another word, she turned and fled.

\"She isn\'t strong enough. I felt the...my uncle\'s power. Her\'s is but a pale echo to his.\" I shivered. \"I don\'t think I can hold it, either.\"

Mourn pulled away enough so that we could start walking towards the room. \"I don\'t think you give yourself enough credit. You have power, it is raw, but it is power. You have scared people before with your potential. Why is today different?\"

I shivered again, staying silent until we reached the room. \"I...I don\'t know. I felt her power, and she could crush me in her hand with a thought. And that\'s not enough power. I felt my uncle\'s power roar through me. Weak as he is, and he wasn\'t even trying, he scared me. And I managed to push him away.\" I pulled away from them both. \"I never thought I was human, but this...\" I waved my hands about. \"I don\'t know why it bothers me, but it does. I don\'t know why it scares me, but it does. And I feel so helpless, to boot...\" I flopped down on the bed, stomach first. I would not cry. I would not cry. I would not...dammit. I was crying. Liam and Mourn crawled onto the bed next to me, once more wrapping me in their arms. I huddled between them, and realized why I was crying. I wasn\'t human. I really wasn\'t. And all this time, I had been hoping that I was, had held out. And it hurt. I had more power than my uncle, the king, and I didn\'t want it.

My tears slowly dried up, but I still didn\'t want to move. I was comfortable here, between them. It wasn\'t sexual, though it had the great potential to be. It was simply two adults comforting a third.

Mourn shifted suddenly, pressing himself against me. I laughed, quietly. \"You always think with that?\"

It was Mourn\'s turn to laugh. \"Yes.\" He tightened his grip on me, burying his face in my hair. I nuzzled the side of his face, and sighed. He was still Mourn, would always be there for me. He wouldn\'t mind my bearing another\'s child; he knew the sex would mean nothing to me.

Mourn growled and rolled us over, partially pinned Liam under my body. He attacked my mouth, kissing me as if he had never tasted one such as me before. I was aware of a second set of lips on my throat, working the sensitive flesh there. I groaned softly and broke the kiss. Mourn didn\'t seem to mind, as he moved to nibble on the other side of my neck, one hand drifting under my shirt. I gasped as his fingers danced along the edge of my bra. Suddenly he stopped, placing a gentle kiss on the side of my neck, and withdrew his hand. Liam had also pulled back. I lay in their arms, gasping. \"What...the...hell?\"
Mourn pulled me up into a sitting position. \"Your first time with the dragons shouldn\'t be with us.\"

I shook my head. \"Why not?\"

Liam sighed, rolling his body up behind me. \"I am afraid he is right, Angela. You are expected to bear the new heir. You can\'t sleep with us, not just yet.\" He gave me a quick hug, and slid from the bed, stretching. Mourn sighed and went to pull me into his arms, but was interrupted by a knock at the door.

\"Princess?\"

I sat up straighter. \"Yes?\"

The door opened, revealing a small dark haired woman, and a tall blond man. He smiled at me, a smile that promised everything under the sun.

\"This is Lord Gabriel.\" She cleared her throat. \"King Stephen wanted you to...sample him first.\" Her eyes flicked to Mourn, then to Liam. \"I am here to outfit your guards.\"
Liam and Mourn stood. \"You will be okay, Angela. Gabriel is...trustworthy enough.\"
I shook my head, smiling. \"That is fine.\"

She nodded, bowing. \"I will return them in good condition, do not worry, Princess.\" without another word, she turned around and left, Mourn and Liam on her heels.
I turned my attention to Gabriel, who still stood in the middle of the room. I held out one hand to him. \"Come here.\"

Gabriel grinned and stalked over to me, dropping to his knees by the side of the bed. He took my hand in his and rolled his cheek against it. His tongue shot out, licking the back of my hand, once, twice. I wrapped my hand around his fingers and drew him closer, so that he was half on the bed. Gabriel was quite attractive. His shoulder length blond hair and sea green eyes made me think of him as a surfer, if it wasn\'t for the black on black suit he was wearing.

Gabriel smiled again, just inches away, and began to crawl, slowly pushing me backwards. I wound up flat on my back, cradling his head between my hands. He brushed my hands away from his face and dipped down, I thought for a kiss. His lips grazed my cheek and moved lower, nipping at the flesh of my throat. He bit into the pulse of my neck, applying gentle pressure, then moved lower. One of his hands drifted up and began to unbutton my shirt.

By the time he was even with my collar bone, I was panting, wanting more. Gabriel slid the shirt down my shoulders, unfastening the front of my bra after he did so. Ever so gently he lapped at my nipples, causing me to writhe on the bed. I dug my nails into his shoulders, not knowing what else to do with my hands.

\"Lose the jacket,\" I finally managed to get out. Gabriel sat up quickly and removed the jacket. I pulled his shirt out of his pants and ran my hands over his washboard abs. Gabriel slid out of his shoulder holster and began to unbutton his shirt, revealing his chest and stomach one bit at a time. When his shirt was off he lay back on me, resting his weight on his arms as he drank in the sight of me. Starting at my jaw, he once again began to kiss his way down my body, nipping and sucking as he did. I twisted on the bed, moaning, as he did so. When he drew even with the waistband of my pants, he kissed the skin just under my navel and began to undo them to draw them slowly down my body, my panties following. He drew one of my legs over his shoulder and slipped his tongue inside me. I bucked into his mouth, gasping, as he began to tease me with his tongue.

I was teetering on the brink of orgasm when he drew away, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. I lay there, legs spread, gasping, as I stared up at him. He undid his belt slowly, or so it seemed. He undid his pants just as slow, climbing out of them. He lay back down on top of me, smiling, and pushed himself inside of me.

I gasped again, wrapping my legs around his back, urging him on as he began to thrust. I moaned and tightened my legs, urging him to speed up. He complied, burying his face in my hair as he did.
My body began to tighten up, and I moaned again. He sped up some more, and I came, body spasming. Dimly I could hear myself yell. Gabriel came as I clamped down on him. He collapsed on top of me, panting.

I just lay there when he got up, pulling out of me. He picked up his clothing and walked into the bathroom. I had rolled onto my stomach when he came out, fully dressed. He smiled at me, a long, lazy smile, before sitting down in the chair by the desk.

\"So,\" I began, sitting up. I started dressing as he watched me. \"You seem to be a man of few words.\"

He laughed. \"I don\'t need to say anything about what just went on, I think that speaks for itself.\"

I looked at the visible bite marks on my body and had to smile. \"That is does.\" I was almost finished buttoning up my shirt when another question hit me.

\"You are a lord, why do you carry a gun?\"

He smiled at me, tucking a piece of hair behind his ears. \"I am a killer for hire. I don\'t go anywhere unarmed.\"

\"Kinda smiley for that, aren\'t you?\" I watched his face as I spoke. His eyes emptied, his face falling into blank lines.

\"You would be surprised, Princess.\"

I shook my head. \"Point taken.\"

Light flowed back into his face, and he smiled at me. I smiled back, but knew that his smile was fake, fake as mine. He was a good actor. It made me wonder what everyone else did for a living. else did for a living.
