~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They had moved over to their booth. Akira was now next to Zev and the other two were sitting across from them. “I still think he should know.” Cyan was in the city visiting Daisuke. He wanted to ask him some questions and deliver some things to him personally.
“He doesn’t.”
“He has a right.”
Soon plates of food were placed in front of them. Pushing the plate to the side Akira looked at Cyan. “I want to know.”
They looked at him, “Fine.” Daisuke picked up a fry and pointed at him. “Besides everyone wanting to know where their killing ways come from do I really have to be here?”
“Eat the damn fry and stop bitching.” They looked at Cyan and Daisuke muttered something under his breath. Turning back to Akira, he just tossed it out. “Look you’re half tainted.”
The man sitting next to him started choking on his fry. He smacked him in the back of the head. “Dumb ass! We don’t even know if that’s it!”
“What the hell is a tainted?” Zev asked Akira. The brunette shrugged and shook his head. He picked a fry up and started to chew on it.
“Look I think he is because of the fact…” The dark look from Daisuke had him scooting till he was on the edge of the booth seat. “Anyways, a tainted is a black wing that’s tasted killing at an early age. Back home a black wing isn’t even allowed to own a weapon till he or she is fifteen and they can’t even use it till sixteen.” He snagged a piece of napkin and pulled a pen out, “See growing up the kids are kind of unstable mentally. One push the wrong way can cause a lot of things, fear, anger, and so on.” He pointed at Akira, “Your fear was made because of that. Me, I was attacked by a wild cat when I was younger so cats scare the hell out of me.”
“Okay.”
“We’ll look at it this way when was the first time you killed?”
“When I was taken by Abner.”
“That was what ten eleven years old, right?”
“Yeah about.”
“Then you did it for so long your mind has come to a point that you have to do this just to stay alive.” Cyan flipped the paper around and it had some scribbles on it. “This right here is a normal black wing.” It was a small drawing of a person’s head and then he pointed at another, “This is a tainted or true black wing.” The ears were pointed and there was a mark under one eye. “Over the years the ways of living changed and slowly everyone physically started changing.”
“That still doesn’t…”
“You’ve been killing since a young age. So your mind is use to it, after a while it will start to nag and nag to the point where you can’t even take it anymore and then…”
“Snap.” They looked at Daisuke. “Friends and loved one become enemies and you end up being hunted for slipping and killing one.”
“I’ve never…” He closed his eyes and thought. “No I haven’t.”
“Yet.”
Zev shifted in his seat and Akira glanced at him, “What is it?”
“Akira you’re looking a pit pale.” He started to rusher him out of the booth. “Let’s head to the bathroom just for a sec. You almost ran over a waiter last time.”
“But…”
He then said with a straight face, “Bathroom now.”
“Fine, fine I’ll go to the bathroom, just stop pushing me.” The door swung shut behind them and Daisuke sat forward.
Cyan looked at him, “What was that about?”
“Zev knows something.”
“What!?”
“Yeah, Ransom said it was because the meds you were taking was fully out of your system. But Akira that didn’t look like it to me.”
“Are you saying I… damn it! Fucking Abner!” He was yanking on his hair. “I can’t… I don’t want to…”
“Akira…” Zev grabbed his hands and pulled them away from his head, “I said it looked like it, not that you did. So relax.” He smiled. “You won’t.”
“But…” He saw Akira smile and shake his head, “Is this what you go through?”
“Sometimes.” The wolf hugged him and he let his head rest there. “If it hasn’t happened again it most likely won’t.”
“I guess.”
“Don’t worry about it, okay. Just worry about not getting sick.”
“Do you have to…?” Akira pushed Zev away as he dove for the toilet.
He walked out and the shout from Akira followed him, “It was one fry, damn it!”
The two looked at him and he shrugged. “Wow you guessed he was going to get sick.”
Zev sat down and pointed at the food, “He went pale when this was placed in front of him.”
Daisuke picked a fry up and balanced it on his finger, “If Akira is one I think he can learn to deal with it. Only one has been known to subdue the need.”
“Who was that?”
“I don’t know.” His finger thumped the fry and it landed on the pile of fries.
Akira was knelt on the floor, slumped over on the booth, “Home…” His arms were pillowed around his head and he was muttering under his breath.
“Okay.” The wolf smiled and ran his hand through his hair. He started to pull his wallet out when Daisuke waved his hand.
“Go. Before he gets sick again, I’ll pay for it.”
“You don’t have to…”
“Shoo.”
He sighed and stood, “Come on Akira, we’re going home.”
“M’kay…” The brunette stood up and they left the diner.
“I thought it was hard for one of us to get sick.”
“Don’t mean it doesn’t happen.” Daisuke reached over and snagged Akira’s untouched food.
“What the hell does your stomach have a bottom?”
He pushed him off the booth, “Shut up and hop to the other side, brat.”
~~~~
Zev let Akira drop onto the bed and he ran a hand over his forehead. “You don’t have a fever.”
His arm wrapped around his stomach and he rolled onto his side. “Hurts.”
“Akira if this keeps up I’m taking you to see the doctor.”
“No!” That stabbing pain was getting worse. “I don’t want to!”
“Akira……” It was a long pause before Zev spoke again, “I’m going to get you some water.”
“Okay.”
He walked out of the room and quickly made his way down the stairs. Dawn walked by and he quickly said, “I need to talk to you.”
She turned and blinked. A smile found its way on her face and she asked, “Why is my puppy so upset?”
“Kitchen.”
After telling her about it, she nodded her head. “I see. Sharp pains and he’s been sick that last two days. You sure it not just him reacting to a strong emotion?”
“He got sick when we walked into the diner and after some food was placed in front of him.”
“I’ll see if she can come by tomorrow.”
“Thanks.”
“It’s going to be hard but we’ll have to get him to sit still long enough to get checked out.”
“I know.” He sighed and picked up the glass of water and picked up some medicine. “I’m going back up. I’m going to see if this help to settle his stomach.”
“Zev he’ll be fine.”
The wolf nodded and walked out of the kitchen. Zev walked into his room and found a lump of blankets on his bed. He walked over to the lump and shook his head, “Akira.” It shift and stopped. “Akira.” He sat the cup and pills down. “Hey come on. Wake up.” The lump moved and he chuckled as Akira sat up. The blanket was draped over his head and he was rubbing at his eyes. He tapped the table, “I know you said you body was tampered so that foreign stuff can’t hurt you, but can you take this and see if it helps.”
“Yeah.” He crawled over and picked up the little packet. Opening it he tossed his head back and swallowed them dry. The glass of water followed and he looked at Zev. “I’m fine.”
His hand reached out and touched his face. “You say that but are you sure?”
“Hmmm, I don’t know.” He leaned into the touch and the two kissed.
“Ewww, you taste weird.”
He shoved his face away and disappeared back under the blanket.
“Come on Akira.” He had a smile on his face. “I was just kidding.”
“I’m going back to bed!” Zev slipped his head under and came face to face with the male. “What?!”
He wrapped his arms around Akira’s waist and he smiled, “Nothing.”
“Stupid wolf.”
“Zev?” He looked over his shoulder and saw Keir. “What are you doing?”
“Talking to Akira!”
He lifted the blanket and he saw Akira’s back. The male had rolled over to hide his face. “I need your help with something.”
“Coming.” He stood up and turned to follow only he jumped when Akira snagged the back of his shirt. Looking behind him, they looked at each other. “What is it?”
“Zev!”
He called after Keir “Hold on!”
His grip tightened and then he let go, “Nothing.”
“I’ll be right back.”
Akira watched as Zev rushed out the room. He let his arm hang over the edge and he sighed. “Still not ready.”
There was a sound and he sat up. Looking around he muttered as he heard it again. Hopefully he wasn’t going crazy. There was another sound and then a shout, “I know you can hear me!”
“S-star?”
“It’s dark I can’t see anything.” He stumbled off the bed and opened his bag. “Oh I see something!”
The clear sphere fell out and rolled across the ground. Picking it up, he gapped, “Why can I see you?”
“Hello Akira.” He saw Levana. “Did you finish off the vial?”
“Yes.”
“Good. How are you feeling?”
“Like crap.”
“I see.” She nodded and before he could ask she added, “You’ll find out soon why I gave it to you. Well I was just checking, see you in spring.”
“See you in a month Akira!”
“Wait, how are you talking to me through this small…” Their images disappeared, “thing? Damn it!” He fell back and looked at the ceiling. The sphere in his hand still, “What is going on?” Everything was weird lately. “How did this happen?” When did that normal pace slip away? He laid there not moving and he touched his collarbone where the barcode was at. His teeth gritted in anger. Placing his hands on the floor next to his head, he lifted his legs till they were over his head and pushing off the floor he landed on his feet. It pissed him off. One little mark could change a person’s opinion about another person, it just pissed him off.
He was crouched and then his mind wandered. What if all that didn’t happen? Would he have met Zev? Would he be like this or would he be different? His hand rubbed his shoulder and he walked into the bathroom. Speaking of marks, what would Zev’s look like? He turned the light on and looked at his reflection.
His face was pale looking and he looked like shit. Tugging on a lock of hair he tipped his head to the side. “Need to cut my hair.” Storm gray eyes looked at his left shoulder. The mark was gone and the new one should be showing. He placed his hands on the counter and leaned forward. If he squinted he could see a faded outline of a mark. “Hmmm, damn.” He stuck his tongue out and straightened his back. What was he doing?
“Heh, I’m acting weird.” The counter was cold under his hands. He stared at his reflection and sighed as he turned. His body stopped as he caught the movement, looking over his shoulder he quickly found himself stumbling back. The dark gray eyes and smirk were not his. He hit the floor; his back was against the tub and then stared at the mirror. Not to mention he was on the floor so why was he standing in the mirror.
“Akira?” His head whipped to the side. Zev was standing in the doorway. “Are you okay, you look like you saw a ghost?” Akira turned back to the mirror and found it gone. He slumped forward and placed his face in his hands.
‘Not again.’ A hand touched his shoulder and he pulled away. That hand grabbed his shoulder and turned him. They looked at each other.
“What’s wrong?”
He couldn’t say, he just couldn’t tell him. “Nothing I was just spooked by how pale I was.”
“Well you do look kind of scary.”
The brunette looked at the mirror and stood up. He quickly turned and rushed out of the bathroom. Zev looked at the mirror and then back at Akira. “I’m heading to bed.” He walked after and grabbed Akira in his arms. The male shouted and pulled on Zev’s hair, “Put me down!”
“Okay!” He dropped Akira and he bounced on the bed. “Night.” The wolf was on the bed next to him. He pulled the brunette closer and kissed his neck. “Love you.”
Blushing, Akira tossed the blanket over the both of them. “Night.” Looking at his back Zev sighed. They had talked about it already but he couldn’t wait till he finally heard it from Akira.
^^
Akira yawned as he opened his eyes. He was sitting up. Looking down he narrowed his eyes. “Why the hell am I tied up?”
“Sorry Akira.”
Glancing over he saw a woman standing by the door. She had long brown hair that was pulled up in a high tail and hazel eyes. Her skin was paler then Akira’s “I’m Doctor Baker but if it makes you feel better you can call me Karen.” Karen was five foot eight and had on a pair of jeans and a black turtleneck shirt. Her shoes were white.
“Zev I said no doctors damn it!!”
“He didn’t call me. Dawn did.”
“I don’t need help.”
She wheeled over an office chair and sat on the chair. A clip board was resting on her lap and pen was in hand. “Akira, all I need you to do is answer questions and let me get a blood sample.”
“Fuck no.”
“Fine. Have it your way. I’ve read your file and let’s just hope that whatever Abner did to you isn’t making you body act funny. If it is you might survive or you could die. I’ve already told Zev my ideas and he said if he has to hold you down he will do it.”
“How do I know you’re not bluffing?”
“Zev, can you come here?”
Zev looked in, “Do you need my help?”
“I don’t know.” She looked at Akira and smiled. “Akira, do I need Zev’s help?”
The chair slid back some and he glared at her. “I don’t need help. I know what you doctors do. It is test after test just to prove something. I’ve been through enough of the tests! I’m tired of the needles and the questions and everything else! Just leave me alone!”
“I’m going to need your help, Zev.”
“Fine! I get it!” He looked away and growled. She smiled and waved her hand. Akira caught the way Zev exhaled and then he quickly slipped out.
“It’s good that you’ll be doing this willingly.”
“Why is it good?”
“Poor Zev was having a hard time out there. He wanted to come in here and save you, but then again he still would be putting you in danger. We still won’t know what’s making you sick.”
“Alright! Just ask the dame question and you won’t poke me with the needle more than once.”
“I understand. I did look through your file. You’ve been through a lot in your life. Besides I’m not like those doctors my family has been helping the Thomas family for a long time.”
“I still don’t trust you.”
A smile spread across her face. “Have it your way. When did the pains start?”
“A week ago.”
“When did you start getting sick?”
“Three days ago right after dinner. It was a damn good dinner too.”
“How’s you appetite?”
“Hungry. Like right now.”
The questions went on, he would mutter out his answer and she’ll write it down. “Okay, time for the blood work.” He gave her a dirty look and she smiled. “Now now it’s not so bad.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay Akira is not afraid of needles he just doesn’t like them because of how many he had to be poked with. Me on the other hand will hide if I know that I’m getting a shot. Needles are evil! Reviews are welcomed!
