I hadn't told this story in a long time. I hadn't even thought about my past in a long time. There wasn't anything that I wanted to remember. Nothing at all. Even the parts when I was with Alexis, they were so shrouded in darkness because if everything else that it was hard to think about it.
"I...I was born in the West." I finally started, staring at the fire, not wanting to look at any of them. "My mother was a teenager and couldn't keep me...so she gave me to an orphanage not three days after my birth." he lowered his head. "I never had anyone to tell me that I was different, tell me what was going on, and I was never normal. I didn't have the same transition that all of you did. I was just...immediately different."
***Eleven Years***Earlier***
"Gabriel darling." someone's voice came and the boy groaned as sun suddenly poured through his room. "What do you think you are doing in bed at this hour? It's nearly noon!" he glared at the woman as she pulled the blankets off him. "Now, now dearest. None of that. You need to get up and come downstairs. It's not every day a boy turns seven. It is the number of the Lord."
He sat up and stretched. "What's so special about seven? It's just a number. It's stupid to say that a number is the number of the Lord."
The woman back-handed him, sending him back onto the bed. "You will not say such sinful things! You were named after one of the seven Archangels! Do not disgrace such a name with your foul mouth!" she sat down and pulled they boy to her. "You will be a special boy my darling. Much more special than all the other children. I'll make sure no one ever hurts you."
"Yes..." Gabriel agreed, barely whispering it. "Of course Miss Heather."
"Good then." she stood and walked into the closet. "Now, lets get you something to wear. We'll get you dressed nicely for your birthday!"
The door burst open and Gabriel's eyes widened seeing the boy standing there. He tried to motion for the other to leave but the boy just ran over and jumped on the bed next to him. "Happy birthday Gabi! I got you something real special! I can't give it to you right now but I did get you something real special okay?"
Gabriel nodded softly. "Okay...but...you have to go before she comes back out okay?"
The boy frowned. "She can't kick me out of your room!"
"What are you doing in here?" Heather yelled at the boy. "Get out! Get out now! The likes of you does not deserve to be in here!"
"You can't kick me out of his room!" the boy yelled back at her. "How about you get out you crazy bitch!"
Gabriel grabbed the boy's hand. "Please, I'll see your downstairs okay? Please."
The kid just frowned and jumped up. "Fine, whatever. I'll see you downstairs."
When the door closed Heather walked over and grabbed Gabriel by his upper arm hard, shaking him a little. "Do not go near that heathen! That boy is a monster! He'll kill you! He was a bad child so his family was killed! You stay away from him do you hear me?" she shook him harder. "Do you hear me?" Gabriel nodded his head. "Good." she calmed and pet the side of his head. "You are such a goob boy. Such a wonderful, amazing boy. I'll keep you safe forever. I love you so much."
"I have to get dressed." Gabriel whispered softly. "Please leave."
"Of course." Heather nodded and turned to leave the room. "Don't take to long! I'll be waiting down in the main hall for you!"
He sat there on his bed, staring out the window. The door opened again and the black haired, ten-year-old snuck back in. He walked over and sat next to Gabriel again. "She's going to be mad. You shouldn't be in here." Gabriel told him. "She doesn't want me to be near you anymore."
The older boy just rolled his eyes. "She's so crazy. They should have never hired someone who's that into religion. God only knows what she's gonna do in the future." he smiled at Gabriel. "I don't want you to listen to her okay? I don't want you to feel bad because of that woman."
"I don't." Gabriel muttered. "I feel bad for her is all." he looked up at the boy. "Will you stay with me? You're the only person I know that I feel safe around. Will you stay with me always Ali?"
"Promise." Ali nodded and locked their pinkies together. "I promise that no matter what I'll never leave you alone."
Gabriel smiled softly then. "That's good."
***Three Weeks***Later***
Gabriel cried out as a needle was slid into his arm. He pulled against the straps around his wrists and ankles holding him to the bed. He kept his eyes closed, the bright lights in the white room nearly blidning. Cold metal touched the sides of his head and tape held them there.
"Ah!" Gabriel screamed as electrical surges pulsed through his body.
"Stop." Came someone's voice and Gabriel gasped for air as he listened to the keys on a computer being pushed. "Alright, try again."
"No...no..." Gabriel pleaded and then screamed again as the surges went through his body again.
They turned the machine off and Gabriel felt the metal and needles being pulled out. "Give him a sedative and take him back to his room. We'll try again next week." Gabriel whimpered and tried to turn his head away as someone ran a hand through his hair. "You'll be amazing Gabriel. We'll make you great. No one will be able to touch you ever. I want you to always remember that there is nothing in this world you can't do."
***Seven Years***Later***
Gabriel let out a cry as the whip came down across his back once again. He pulled at the binds around his wrists, trying to pull free from the bedpost that he was tied to. Blood dripped down his wrists from the leather digging into him. He screamed again as the whip came down across his back and tears spilt from his eyes.
"You think this is pain?" Heather knelt down beside him. "This is nothing. The man who created you, who died for you, went through a hundred times more pain than this. You should not scream in pain when this is nothing! You are pathetic! You do not deserve to live for our Lord! You do not deserve such a name!" he looked up at the woman, tears in his eyes, and she held him close. "I just want you to be great Gabriel. I just want you to be everything I know you can be because I love you so much. You know I love you don't you?" he just weakly nodded his head. "Yes, good boy."
The next morning Gabriel was awoken by the sound of his door closing. Slowly he turned his head and smiled softly seeing Ali there. "How are you feeling?" Ali asked as he sat by Gabriel on the bed. "Nothing to bad right?"
Gabriel shook his head. "Nothing to bad." he sat up and brushed his hair from his face. "You should leave before she comes in here. I don't want you to get in trouble because of me Ali."
The older guy just smiled. "It's okay. I don't mind getting in trouble as long as I get to see you." Gabriel blushed a little. "You're cute when you blush."
"You're turning eighteen next month aren't you?" Gabriel asked him. "You get to leave."
"Yeah," Ali answered, smile vanishing. "I always thought I'd be happen when I was finally able to get out of here but I just...I don't want to leave you."
Gabriel slid closer to Ali. "Just promise you'll come visit me okay? If you come visit me, then I wont be so lonely. Just like you visit me now."
Ali locked their pinkies together and gave Gabriel a smile. "That's a promise Gabi." They stared at each other a moment. "Can I kiss you?"
Gabriel blushed a little. "Why do you even ask anymore?" he asked. "I believe that kissing is the least of our sins is it not?"
"Very true." He set a hand on the side of Gabriel's head and leaned closer to him. "I just like to be courteous sometimes."
"Very noble of you." Gabriel breathed out.
Their mouths met and Gabriel moaned. Ali slid his tongue into Gabriel's mouth, leaning down so Gabriel was laying and he was partially over the younger guy. Slowly Ali slid a hand up Gabriel's shirt and Gabriel wrapped his arms around Ali's neck.
"Gabriel!" the two turned their heads to look at the door. Heather was standing there. They quickly stood and Ali stood in front of Gabriel. "Get out! Get out you demon! Get out of his room! Help! Help! Someone Help!" one of the guards came running into the room and Gabriel grabbed Ali's hand. "That boy was attacking Gabriel! Take him away! Get him out of here!"
"Ali!" Gabriel screamed as the guard grabbed him and began to drag him out of the room. "No! Don't take him!"
"I'll never leave you Gabi!" Ali yelled back at him. "I promise! Don't let these assholes get to you! Don't let them!"
They drug Ali out and Heather held Gabriel to her. "Alexis!" Gabriel screamed.
***Two Years***Later***
"You're amazing, you know that?" Gabriel opened his eyes and looked up at the man who was standing there, fixing his jacket. "It's no surprise to me that they keep you on lock down." Gabriel pushed himself up and reached over, grabbing his pants. "I think I'll have to come visit you again." the man grabbed Gabriel's chin and lifted his head. "I just might have to tell a few people about you."
Gabriel lowered his gaze. "One of these days someone is going to come along and take away everything from you...it's just a matter of when, Nicholas."
Nick just laughed and pushed Gabriel back. "Whatever. Just get your clothes on and get back in the house. Helen's going to be wondering where her lovely little maid is."
The seventeen-year-old walked out of the barn and fixed his hair a little bit. "Hey." he turned around to see a guy with brown hair and tan skin walking up behind him. "You're Gabriel right?" he nodded. "It's nice to meet you. Helen told me a lot about you. I hear you're quite the cook."
"I've learned a few things." Gabriel muttered.
The guy just laughed. "Well, perhaps someday you can make something for me."
Gabriel nodded softly as the guy began to walk away. "What...what's your name?"
The guy smile back at him. "I'll tell you if you guess it."
***~~~***~~~***
"There is so much in between there that I don't want to talk about." I told the rest of them. "So many worse things that happened." Alexis wrapped an arm around me. "So many things that you don't want to believe, but can't help the affect they have on you because you hear them all the time." I shuddered a little. "I never want to go back to that place. Never. I don't want to ever have to go back to that."
The others were silent, as I had expected. My eyes widened a little and I looked over at Edan. The boy was nearly asleep. I couldn't blame him. After what I had done, not that I knew how I had done it. "Edan." I crawled up to him and ran a hand through his hair. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you so tired."
The boy just smiled at me. "It's okay. We did something good...so I should be tired..."
I grabbed the boy's hand and my hand started to glow. "Don't worry. I'll never do that again."
"I want to be as strong as you are one day Gabi." Edan told him and closed his eyes, leaning against Ace. "That way I'll be able to help you better."
My heart dropped into my stomach and went back to my place by Alexis. No one ever wanted to be me. I didn't care who you were. No one should ever have to go what I went through. No one should ever have to have the scars that I have. I looked over at Ace and Edan. Ace had his arms around Edan, holding the boy close. In a way it reminded me of how Alexis and I used to sit in my room late at night. Alexis holding me and telling me everything was going to be okay.
That's the way I wished it was. Okay. I just want everything to finally be okay.
